DETROIT (May 7, 2024) – Cadillac Racing heads to the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season at the challenging, albeit familiar, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Alex Lynn and Earl Bamber, qualified fourth and placed fifth in the six-hour race last year in Cadillac Racing’s inaugural WEC season in the Hypercar class, and both drivers have competed with success multiple times at the historic venue in the heart of the Ardennes.

“It’s one of my favorite tracks in Europe and I’ve spent a lot of time there. Won one of my first big races in Europe there in Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup, so I really looking forward to going back there especially with this Cadillac,” Bamber said.

The team recently tested at the 7.004-kilometer (4.35-mile), 20-turn road course, which features the fearsome Eau Rouge – a corner of speed, elevation and a blind crest. Concurrently, the sister Cadillac V-Series.R cars in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class will race at Laguna Seca with its signature Corkscrew complex.

Bamber and Lynn drove to 10th place in the most recent WEC race at Imola, advancing two positions from the qualifying position of the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R. Lynn drove the initial stint with a damaged rear wing sustained at the green flag and had a setback because of a right-rear tire puncture from debris in his second stint that forced an unplanned pit stop. Bamber was challenged by mixed track conditions from intermittent rain over the final 2 hours, 23 minutes of the six-hour event.

The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, an important race unto itself on the WEC calendar, is also considered a tune-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Cadillac Racing will again have three Hypercar entries in France, including Bamber, Lynn and two-time INDYCAR champion Alex Palou in the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R.

Cadillac Racing driver Sebastien Bourdais teamed with Jean-Christophe Boullion to win the FIA Sportscar Championship race at Spa-Francorchamps in 2002. Bourdais also co-drove to victory in the 2010 Le Mans Series race with Simon Pagenaud and Pedro Lamy.

Cadillac Racing and the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R opened the season with Bamber, Lynn and Bourdais driving to a fourth-place finish in the 19-car Hypercar field March 2 at the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar. On March 27, the FIA issued a report that disqualified the Cadillac Racing entry because of a post-race technical inspection irregularity.

The TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps is scheduled for 1 p.m. Central European Time / 7 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Saturday, May 11. The intensity of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series playoffs starts in Milwaukee and will be on full display, as eight eligible drivers will be racing for the LIUNA 175 winner’s trophy and a ticket to the next round of the Playoffs, and ultimately, the championship. In the grandstands will be upwards of 1,000 Wisconsin LIUNA members cheering on their LIUNA sponsored driver, Tyler Ankrum, and the thrilling on-track action the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series continues to produce.

Meyer Shank Racing Launches Month of May With Sonsio Grand Prix

New look for Blomqvist as he heads into the weekend with No. 66 AutoNation / SiriusXM livery

Pataskala, Ohio (6 May 2024) – The most-anticipated month of every NTT INDYCAR SERIES schedule gets underway this weekend, as Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) packs up and heads to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a month that starts with Saturday’s Sonsio Grand Prix (3:00pm ET, NBC, SiriusXM Ch. 218) and culminates with the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 26.

Felix Rosenqvist (No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda) leads the charge for the Ohio-based team as the veteran driver has made the most of his new surroundings after joining MSR for the 2024 campaign. The Swedish driver has led the squad to its first-ever INDYCAR pole and is the first driver in team history to start the year with three consecutive top-five qualifying results.

Rosenqvist has parlayed those starting spots into quality results as well and sits fifth in the championship standings after three races. He is one of five drivers to have finished in the top-10 in each of the year’s three races and is one of just four to have multiple top-five results this season.

INDYCAR rookie, Tom Blomqvist heads into the weekend with a new look on his No. 66 machine – sporting a dual partnership between AutoNation and SiriusXM (No. 66 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda). Blomqvist has improved his qualifying results through each of the year’s first three events, including a run at Barber Motorsports Park that saw him advance to the Fast 12 qualifying session for the first time in his young career.

Blomqvist heads into the IMS weekend with a sense of familiarity having tested at the Speedway as well as a venue he has raced at in IMSA competition in 2023.

Both MSR and Rosenqvist have had success on the Indy road course and will be looking to add to that record with strong results this weekend. MSR scored it’s first-ever INDYCAR SERIES podium at the IMS road course back in 2019 and followed that up with a second podium run in 2022 which saw Simon Pagenaud come from 20th on the starting grid to finish 2nd. MSR has also shown well in qualifying, earning four top-seven starting spots.

Rosenqvist has made 10 starts on the road course, and scored his first-ever INDYCAR pole position in 2019 along with a second pole in 2022. He has five top-10 results on the track and has finished on the lead lap on nine of the 10 starts.

It was the first career Porsche Carrera Cup win for Vanier, who swooped to the lead from third on the grid in the opening corner and then held out for the duration of the 40-minute race in the No. 9 Technica Mining/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Vanier had Sedgwick’s No. 98 PT Autosport/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on his tail and survived two additional restarts after the race was slowed for extended full-course caution periods. Sedgwick moved to the lead near the mid-point of the race, going around Vanier to take the lead, but gave the position back after exceeding track limits rather than face a penalty later.

At the finish, Vanier was just 0.282-second in front of his teammate. The win was Vanier’s first in Carrera Cup competition, and the second time in as many years that JDX Racing has boosted a pair of drivers to the podium at the Miami Grand Prix.

Sedgwick was one of those drivers on the podium a year ago, and started both races on pole this weekend. After leading every lap on Saturday and crossing the finish line first, he was given a 10-second time penalty for an improper move on the start. The penalty was contested by the team in the moment but ultimately upheld, dropping him to 15th in the official results.

He bounced back just as strong for Sunday’s race in front of the world crowd. Vanier’s move on the start dropped him to second, but he beat all but his teammate to earn his second podium in as many years at the temporary track.

Vanier crossed the stripe fourth during Saturday’s, but after all penalties were assessed came away with a second-place finish in that race as well. That was a best career finish before winning on the track on Sunday.

Those penalties elevated Elias De La Torre into the top five during Saturday’s race after he crossed the line seventh in the No. 4 HCB Yachts/iKon Boats/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. De La Torre started that race ninth on the grid and took advantage of his sixth-place start on Sunday to finish in the same spot.

Madeline Stewart’s No. 82 Spool Imports/Porsche Columbus Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machine was collected in a significant opening lap incident on Sunday, an unfortunate ending after a solid Saturday showing. On Saturday, Stewart started 18th on the grid and worked her way to 13th in the Pro class, her best finish so far early in her first season of Carrera Cup competition.

In all, JDX Racing leaves the Miami Grand Prix with three trophies, including the first win of the season for the team, and four total top-five finishes spread out amongst three drivers. Unofficially, the strong weekend leaves Vanier third in the point standings, with Sedgwick fifth and De La Torre in seventh after four of the 14 races. JDX Racing leaves Miami third in the team championship.

The next round of the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup North America championship is once again with Formula One, this time north of the border at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, June 7-9. Like all races on the calendar, the Montreal rounds will be a doubleheader race weekend.

Sunday, I made an error at the start which allowed my teammate to get around me. We both had pace on the field, but I definitely felt I was able to get around him. We just had extremely limited racing time due to incidents. I had one shot and took it, and unfortunately ran wide and was forced to give back the position. It was a little frustrating but we know we have the potential and need to string it all together for the remaining six events this year. A huge shout out to JDX for the car and all of the ongoing work to have such a successful team weekend, and to PT Autosport for the support and our new partners STEAM Sports Foundation, Classic Car Club Manhattan and NJMP for coming on board.”

Zach Vanier, Driver, No. 9 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “I’m absolutely speechless about this one. Saturday felt like such a win in so many ways although it was only a second-place finish, so to come back Sunday and get my first win in Porsche Carrera Cup North America at the Miami Grand Prix F1 race is a feeling unlike anything else. I didn’t intend to go for the lead at the start, the intention was to slide into second and run away with Alex and sort things out at the end. The opportunity presented itself to ecome the race leader and I felt comfortable taking that opportunity which ultimately is what I believe won us the race today. I must say it was a well-executed day by everyone under the JDX Racing team but especially from Alex and myself to bring the team a one-two finish at such an awesome event. it was hard, but clean racing between teammates which I ultimately respect and appreciate. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but glad we were able to come away with the victory. it gives us a lot of confidence and momentum moving forward with the remainder of the season but especially going into my home race in a month’s time. I can’t thank the entire JDX Racing team enough for all their effort, my dad for all his support and my partners for making it happen. Now we just need to keep it rolling.”

Elias De La Torre, Driver, No. 4 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: “The Miami Grand Prix weekend was a great experience with massive crowds and action-packed sessions. We ended my home race event with P5 and P6 finishes, our best weekend points haul in Carrera Cup. It was quite a dramatic weekend with most of the time under safety car conditions, but we learned a lot from the data we gathered throughout the sessions we had and will utilize that information to improve our pace another step at the next race.”

It was my first time at a street circuit and I felt like I learned the track quite well in our two 30-minute practice sessions. The red flags in qualifying worked against me but the team did a great job to change tires quickly and get us out for a one-lap dash at the end of th esession. I had a really solid first race moving forward a couple of positions but unfortunately messed up at the start of the second race to end my race early. I’m looking forward to building on what I learned at Miami to have an even better weekend at Montreal. It was really great to see the team have so much success over the weekend, so I’m very proud of the whole JDX Racing team.”

Bayley Currey’s No. 41 AutoVentive/Precision Vehicle Logistics Chevrolet to Honor Charles “Chuck” Efaw at Darlington Raceway

Salisbury, N.C. (May 6, 2024) – Bayley Currey’s No. 41 AutoVentive/Precision Vehicle Logistics Chevrolet Silverado will honor Charles “Chuck” Efaw, the late father of Niece Motorsports General Manager Cody Efaw, this week at Darlington Raceway.

The No. 41 will sport a white, black, red, orange and yellow scheme reminiscent of the ZERO Dirt Late Model that Chuck raced at Lakeville Speedway and Wayne County Speedway, in the May 10 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series event at Darlington.

This year’s throwback theme at Darlington Raceway is, ‘Celebrate our Roots through Grassroots Racing’, and will honor the racing origins of drivers, owners, team members, and NASCAR as a whole.

“When Jason [Wilson] with Precision suggested this scheme, I was honored,” said Cody Efaw. “My dad was my hero, and I definitely get my love of racing from him. Some of my best memories are in the shop and at the track with my dad. To be able to run this paint scheme at one of my favorite tracks on the circuit is extremely special to me. A huge thank you to everyone at AutoVentive and Precision Vehicle Logistics for the opportunity to honor my dad and his time behind the wheel of a race car.”

Chuck was born on June 19, 1950 in Fairmont, West Virginia and moved to Ohio as a child. He always had a passion for cars and enjoyed spending time at the race track.

After graduating high school, Chuck worked for Borg Warner, manufacturing hydraulic pumps and valves. He remained with the company after that location was acquired by Rexroth, putting in over 30 years.

It was not until after Chuck was married that he began his racing career. Chuck found victory lane at Wayne County Speedway and Lakeville Speedway on many occasions.

The scheme that the No. 41 honors won numerous times at both tracks in the mid ‘80s.

In addition to driving, Chuck spent many years working with John Mason’s race team, Mason Racing. Chuck worked on the crew at the track, installed engines, and even drove the team’s toterhome.

Chuck was forced to retire from racing due to the strain on his heart. He hung up his helmet in 1988, after his first open heart surgery for mechanical heart valves. He began racing again in 1994, but stopped again for good in 1996. Though not in the driver’s seat, Chuck remained a passionate race fan for the remainder of his life.

“Passion for this sport is created in many ways, and from the time I have known Cody and the entire Efaw family, the clear passion for racing has been evident,” said Jason Wilson, Vice President of Precision Vehicle Logistics. “That seed was planted, years ago by Charles, and had been passed on to Cody and his brother Chuck through the years. Both have applied that passion to the Niece Motorsports shop over the years, and along with Cody’s wife Amanda, and the team they have constructed alongside of them, Niece Motorsports is a better shop today because of them.

“Knowing how humble Cody and the Efaw family are, and the likelihood that Cody would never suggest this on his own for himself, Precision/AutoVentive wanted to take this opportunity to capitalize on the weekend theme of “grass roots” to recognize the Efaw family contribution to this sport. It’s our way of saying thank you to Niece Motorsports, the Efaw family, to include Cody’s mother Betty and sister Christy, and every Niece Motorsports team member, who have always treated our company, and our people like a part of the Niece Motorsports family.

Cody has overseen Niece Motorsports since 2016, now in its eighth full-time season. Since its first full-time season in 2017, Niece Motorsports has advanced to NASCAR’s version of the Playoffs four times, including the last three consecutive seasons.

The organization has advanced to the final round of the Playoffs on two separate occasions. In addition, Niece Motorsports drivers have earned eight victories and led over 1,300 laps.

“It’s cool to run a throwback that means so much to someone in our organization,” said Currey. “Chuck embodied grassroots racing and Cody has obviously followed in his dad’s footsteps. I love racing at Darlington and am looking forward to a strong run in this special scheme.”

Currey has two NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series start at the track nicknamed ‘Too Tough to Tame’, with his best finish of 12th coming in 2020. In addition, Currey has six NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the South Carolina track.

In his first full time season in the Truck Series, Currey has four top-15 finishes through the first eight races of the year.

The Buckle Up South Carolina 200 from Darlington Raceway will take the green flag on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET, airing live on FS1, The Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

● In the past three NASCAR Cup Series races, Noah Gragson has scored his career-best starting spot and his career-best finish. Last weekend at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Gragson qualified third to better his prior career-best starting spot of fifth, earned the previous week at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. And three races ago at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Gragson finished third, besting his prior career-best result of fifth, earned in the August 2022 Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. This recent run of top-10s – third at Talladega, sixth at Dover and ninth at Kansas – is part of a six-race stretch dating back to March 31 at Richmond (Va.) Raceway, where Gragson has not finished outside the top-20, allowing him to climb from 34th in the championship standings to 19th heading into the Goodyear 400 Sunday at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

● The Goodyear 400 will be just the second career NASCAR Cup Series start at Darlington for Gragson. He finished 26th in last year’s Goodyear 400 after starting 29th.

● Gragson’s lack of NASCAR Cup Series experience at Darlington does not mean he’s lacking experience at the 1.366-mile oval. In fact, Gragson has seven NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the “Track Too Tough To Tame,” and he seemed to tame Darlington by scoring an average finish of fourth. His worst finish was eighth, and in his last three Xfinity Series starts at Darlington, he scored two wins and earned one second-place finish. Gragson has a 100 percent lap-completion rate at Darlington and he led a total of 253 laps, nearly 25 percent of the 1,035 laps available.

● Gragson’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Darlington came on Sept. 4, 2021, when he started eighth and led five times for 40 laps, including the final 10, to take the win by .219 of a second over runner-up Harrison Burton.

● Gragson’s second NASCAR Xfinity Series win at Darlington came in his final Xfinity Series start at the track on Sept. 3, 2022. He started second and took the lead on the fourth lap of the 147-lap race. He wound up leading four times for a race-high 82 laps, winning by a .794-of-a-second advantage over his nearest pursuer, Sheldon Creed.

You’re building a lot of momentum, especially of late. Can you explain how you’ve been able to consistently run up front?

“I feel like we keep on stacking chips every weekend. We’re enjoying learning with this group of guys and bonding and getting better each and every race. It’s a lot of fun. Drew Blickensderfer, my crew chief, really challenges me to get better each week, and we keep growing on those processes and steps. I’m trying to fine-tune that right now and just keep building each and every week. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity.”

Darlington is known as the track “Too Tough To Tame.” When you went there for your first and only NASCAR Cup Series start last year, did it live up to its billing?

“I feel like I really had a good handle on Darlington when I raced in Xfinity – I’ve won a couple of Xfinity races there. We didn’t really have great speed in the Cup car there last year, which was disappointing because I had higher hopes. It’s a track that gives you different options. You can run the bottom, you can run the top, and the (two ends of the track) are shaped differently. I think the biggest part is just not overdoing it and getting into the wall, but I like running right up against that wall, so it comes a little bit more naturally to me.”

In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, you got along with the “Lady in Black.” Seven career starts and seven top-10 finishes, with two wins, including your last Xfinity Series start there. You had command of Darlington in the Xfinity Series. How?

“I think just loved running the top at Darlington. There are only a handful of guys who can really run the top efficiently, building up that precision and accuracy, and it takes a lot of focus to run up there. Just getting comfortable doing it at all the tracks – Vegas, Chicagoland back in the day, Homestead, Auto Club, Kansas, Darlington – those are all places where you run the wall. So all those tracks are really good practice on how to get comfortable and how to run it, and I feel like I’m one of the better guys at running the wall. We had really good runs there, and if we didn’t finish first, we were always second, third, fourth – we always had a shot to win, and we led a lot of laps there. It’s one of my favorite tracks, for sure.”

How much can you rip the wall at Darlington before you rip your car into pieces?

“You don’t want to hit the wall. You want to be as close as you can get, but you don’t want to hit the wall. I actually don’t even go up to the top lane in (turns) one and two. You see a lot of guys drive the bottom of the racetrack on entry, slide up in the center and then turn back down. I kind of just run the middle of the corner through there. I’ve just never gotten a good handle on doing that diamond in (turns) one and two. But (turns) three and four, I’m pretty committed to the fence. Just being smart and not overdoing it. Obviously, the tires wear out and that’s where you see guys bite themselves. They start to get comfortable up there and they gain their confidence by running the wall, but their tires are also wearing out. You think, ‘Man, I could push it just a little more because I have a little more confidence, I’ve worked up to it,’ but you also have less grip, so that’s where you see that place bite you.”

Is there a sense of accomplishment when you finish a race at Darlington?

“It’s a racetrack where I go and if we don’t have a good run, I’m probably more frustrated. Obviously, sometimes you’re speed-limited with the balance of your racecar – you might not hit it every weekend – but having a plan when I go to that track and really knowing what I need to do, I feel like I know that track like the back of my hand. Darlington is one that I feel really comfortable at, so just finishing the race isn’t really a success for me there. It’s about putting together a good day and really maximizing and having opportunity, especially at the end of the race, putting yourself in position. I feel like it’s one of my better tracks, for sure.”

You’re in a NextGen car. You wear a full-face, state-of-the-art helmet, combined with a state-of-the-art firesuit and shoes, and a six-way seatbelt system keeps you secure in a custom-molded seat. Do you ever wonder how a guy like Richard Petty ran 500 miles at Darlington in overalls and whatever helmet he could find, in a car not far removed from what was on the dealership floor?

“That’s all they knew back then. It sounds crazy for us now, but back in the day they still ran it how they ran it because that’s all they knew, right? You know, 20 years from now, we’re going to be looking at today and saying, ‘I can’t believe those guys in 2024 were doing stuff like this, it’s nuts.’ Stuff evolves and you grow and you learn more.”

NHRA’S BECOME A RACER PROGRAM THE IDEAL WAY TO JUMP INTO DRAG RACING

INDIANAPOLIS (May 6, 2024) – NHRA’s “Become a Racer” program provides a great opportunity for those interested to become a participant at NHRA Member Tracks across North America. Through the Street Legal program, everyone can take their car from the street to the track, get licensed and race in a legal and controlled environment where racers of all skill levels can enjoy the sport of NHRA drag racing.

Since its formation in 1951, NHRA has worked to combat and eliminate the dangerous and illegal practice of street racing. It remains one of the key missions for NHRA to this day and the Street Legal events, held regularly at the 100-plus NHRA Member Tracks, offer the perfect setting to not only fight illegal street racing, but also feature an ideal setting for competitors of all levels of experience to participate.

For just $65, a participant can sign up to earn their NHRA License and break into the Street Legal club, driving anything from a daily driver to a high-performance street-driven cars.

“For me, going out to the local track is the ultimate,” Top Fuel star Clay Millican said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re in a minivan or tricked out hotrod, it’s a chance to stomp on the loud pedal and not get in trouble. That’s the beauty of going to the track and getting this license is so inexpensive. It’s so easy to do it and if you really want to go racing, you can do it in a minivan or whatever you want.

“I love the racetrack, so when I’m home I find my way to the track. I’ve got a hot rod and I don’t want to get after it on the street, so I go to the track. It becomes a lifestyle. It may not become your profession, but it becomes your passion and something you can enjoy with your friends and family. You can go the track, bring your buddies along and make all the laps you want. The whole process is very easy and inexpensive, and then you end up with an NHRA license and that’s pretty cool.”

Entering into the Street Legal program to “Become a Racer” is also a way for a spectator or fan to jump into the sport and then eventually become a competitor in one of the many classes or series run by the NHRA. The Street Legal program has proven to be an ideal proving grounds for future racers, with several top performers in the NHRA coming from the sport’s introductory level, including Millican, Top Fuel’s Antron Brown and many, many more. Even the likes of legendary icon Don “The Snake” Prudhomme is among those in the process of receiving their NHRA Street Legal license.

In the “Become a Racer” program, NHRA will also recognize racers at an NHRA Member Track for their on-track performance with unique Street Legal decals. Street Legal decals will be available for racers at a quarter-mile facility who break the 13, 12, 11, and 10-second benchmarks and at an eighth-mile facility who break the 9, 8, 7, and 6-second benchmarks.

Racers who break into the 9’s in a quarter-mile or 5’s in an eighth-mile at an NHRA Member Track and submit to NHRA a license application will receive an exclusive decal, only available with the Street Legal NHRA competition license, to recognize their achievement.

Vehicles participating in the Street Legal events must be able to pass all state highway safety requirements for the state in which the vehicle is registered and retains all OEM safety features. Only legitimate street-legal machines are permitted to participate at designated Street Legal events. Although the competition structure can vary from track to track, a strong emphasis is placed on fun and providing a welcoming environment for first-time new racers. Many Street Legal events feature open time trials and grudge racing only, which typically allows each participant an opportunity to make as many passes down the dragstrip as possible.

The grudge racing element allows participants to choose their competition instead of participating in an organized eliminator. Win or lose, a grudge racing participant may return to the staging lanes for more time trials or more grudge runs. Street Legal events provide a legal and controlled environment where racers of all skill levels enjoy the sport of NHRA Drag Racing.

“The ‘Become a Racer’ program really encapsulates the ‘Speed for All’ motto when it comes to NHRA drag racing,” said Evan Jonat, NHRA Vice President of Live Events. “We’re proud to offer the opportunity for potential drivers of any skill level and at a small cost to race and compete in safe matter and have fun at our venues.
