Notes of Interest

● Noah Gragson’s height is listed at 5 feet, 8 inches, but if he appears 6-feet tall when he walks into Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway this weekend, it’s because the 25-year-old Stewart-Haas Racing driver is coming off his career-best finish in the NASCAR Cup Series. Gragson finished third last Sunday at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, bettering his previous best result of fifth, earned on Aug. 28, 2022 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway while driving for Beard Motorsports. Making Gragson’s third-place run even more impressive is that he did it after starting 36th. Gragson led on five separate occasions at Talladega, highlighting how often he was at the front of the 38-car field.

● Sunday’s Würth 400 at Dover carries added worth for Gragson as the race marks his milestone 50th career NASCAR Cup Series start. Gragson made his Cup Series debut in the 2022 Daytona 500, also for Beard Motorsports.

● Of Gragson’s 49 career NASCAR Cup Series starts, only one has come at Dover. The Las Vegas native competed in last year’s Würth 400, starting 33rd and completing only 43 laps before an accident forced him out of the race.

● When it comes to the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Dover, Gragson is a veteran. In the stepping-stone division to the elite NASCAR Cup Series, Gragson has seven career starts at Dover with five top-10 results and no finishes outside of the top-20. His best effort was a pair of fourth-place drives – Aug. 22, 2020 when Gragson led 27 laps, and April 30, 2022 in his last Xfinity Series start at Dover.

● Gragson has made two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts at Dover. He finished ninth in his first Truck race there on June 2, 2017, and 20th in his second Truck race at the track on May 4, 2018. In that second Truck race, Gragson won the pole with a lap of 22.834 seconds at 157.660 mph and led three times for 60 laps before a crash 12 laps from the finish sent him to the garage.

● Gragson made his Dover debut on Sept. 30, 2016 in the NASCAR K&N Series East. He started an impressive third, but 62 laps into the 126-lap race, Gragson suffered a flat right-front tire and it put him hard into the turn-two wall, leaving him with a 24th-place finish.

● Joining Gragson at Dover is MillerTech, a premium lithium battery company that combines superior quality products with faith-based business values to deliver a unique and beneficial experience for end users. MillerTech’s commitment to integrity, customer focus, quality and community engagement sets it apart as a reliable and trustworthy partner in the lithium battery industry. Noah Gragson, Driver of the No. 10 MillerTech Ford Mustang Dark Horse

Your first start at Dover came back in 2016 in the NASCAR K&N Series East. What was your welcome-to-Dover moment?

“Probably when I blew a right-front (tire) running third and it was a hard hit. That place is fast, it’s fun. The loads on your body are pretty unreal, but at the same time it’s a fun, challenging racetrack.”

You have one NASCAR Cup Series start at Dover and it lasted 43 laps. How difficult is that track in a Cup car, and how difficult is the learning curve?

“It’s a challenging racetrack to run fast laps, but it’s even more challenging when your stuff’s not driving well. Trying to figure it out in the simulator is really key for me. I probably do go deeper into the corner than I think I can just because we were looking at sim and I was driving it in about 165 feet deeper than my teammates, so I was probably overdriving it. Ran a little faster, but they were like tweaking out in the sim over it.”

Dover is another track where your time in the Xfinity Series was fruitful – two top-fives and five top-10s in seven starts. What allowed you to be consistently good at Dover?

“I used to run really well around that place when I first started in K&N, Trucks and Xfinity. I talked to Jimmie (Johnson) a bunch about that place about how to get around there. He obviously found a technique that worked really well for that place. I just drove it as hard as I could when I first went there, and I think I need to get back to that.”

Describe a lap at Dover – specifically, the gumption you need to have to throw the car into the corner and trust it.

“Dover is shaped like Bristol, but the straightaways are elevated and the corners, you drop down off of them like a four-story building. So with that being said, it’s a lot of load on your body. The way the place rubbers up, it’s different. It’s got concrete, so your balance changes a lot throughout a run, which makes it really challenging.”

How physical is a race at Dover?

“It’s pretty physical. You feel like you’ve got somebody standing on your shoulders when you’re in the corner. You’re pretty worn-out afterward.”

Do you feel the seams in the concrete at Dover?

“No, it feels pretty smooth.”

Dover is right there near the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Do you sample some seafood, or are you a Grotto Pizza guy?

“I like Grotto Pizza because Artie Kempner with FOX, his son works there and they do a lot of work with Drive for Autism. I like going up there for the Drive for Autism tournament with Artie Kempner to support that foundation, get to see old friends, make new friends and new memories and raise some money for Drive for Autism.”

Notes of Interest

● Where We Stand: The New Jersey native heads to Dover second in the driver standings with 344 points, 15 behind leader Kyle Larson. All four Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) entries are currently inside the top-13 in points heading to the 11th race of the season, with Denny Hamlin sixth, Ty Gibbs eighth, and Christopher Bell 13th.

● Up Front: All four JGR Toyota Camry XSE drivers are among the leaders in total laps led this season. Larson’s 531 laps tops the list for the Cup Series, followed by Hamlin (399), Truex (368) and Gibbs (201) in second, third and fourth, respectively. Bell is ninth on the list with 120 laps led.

● Brotherly Love: At a track that sits a little over an hour drive from the City of Brotherly Love – Philadelphia – Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway was just that one year ago for the Truex brothers. On Saturday of last year’s Dover Cup Series and Xfinity Series weekend, Ryan Truex was able to bring home his first-ever Xfinity Series victory. And in Monday’s Cup Series race, Martin Truex Jr., led 68 laps and brought home his fourth Cup Series victory at what the native of Mayetta, New Jersey, considers his home track.

● First of Many: Truex’s first career NASCAR Cup Series victory came at Dover in June 2007. His record there shows it definitely feels like home. Truex has four career Cup Series wins at Dover, making it one of five tracks where he has three or more career wins. The others are Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway, where he also has four wins, and Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Richmond (Va.) International Raceway, and Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, where he as three wins apiece.

● In addition to his four wins in his 33 career Cup Series outings at Dover, Truex has 10 top-five finishes, 19 top-10s, and he’s led a total of 1,069 laps. His average Dover finish is 11.4.

● With his aforementioned four Dover wins, Truex is now the winningest active driver at Dover, one ahead of former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch. Truex’s three career poles at Dover ties him with JGR teammate Denny Hamlin for most among active drivers.

● Truex has run particularly well at Dover since joining JGR in 2019. After scoring his first win for the team at Richmond in April of that year, he followed it up two weeks later with a victory at Dover, then made it three wins there with JGR last April. Truex has five top-five finishes at Dover in his seven starts there with JGR.

● Looking for 35: Truex’s win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon last July was his most recent Cup Series win, the 34th of his career, tying him with 2004 Cup Series champion Kurt Busch for 25th on the all-time Cup Series win list.

● Ahead at this Stage: Truex has accumulated 62 stage wins since the beginning of the stage era in 2017. He is the only driver with 10 or more stage sweeps, with his latest sweep coming at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn last August. Truex scored his first stage win of the season at Richmond earlier this season, leading the field across the line at the end of Stage 2.

Martin Truex Jr., Driver of the No. 19 Bass Pro Shops Toyota Camry XSE

After winning at Dover last year, what are your expectations heading back there this weekend?

“The whole weekend was pretty special last year. For Ryan (Truex) to finally get that first Xfinity win out of the way was really cool – at our home track and probably one of my favorite tracks was really neat. Look forward at having a shot at doing it again here this weekend with our Bass Pro Shops Camry.”

Dover seems to suit veteran drivers a lot more than some other tracks. Why do you think that is?

“Certainly experience is important there, it’s a difficult place. It’s concrete and is a lot different than what we do most other weeks. It seems to always be a place where you are guessing what the track is going to do on Sunday. I think the veterans probably understand the place more than many because we’ve seen it do different things over the years. We’ve had a good cars and a good team there and have been fortunate to have a lot of good runs at Dover.”

With Dover hosting the race that’s closest to your hometown in New Jersey, do you view Dover as your home track?

“I view Dover as my home track, it’s closest to home. If you could drive across the bay, it would be really close. It’s close to home, for sure. I’ve been going there a long time and it’s a place that means a lot to me, starting early in my Busch Series career, and doing some racing there in my dad’s car, and my first Cup win there, as well. We’ve had a lot of success there, too. It’s a special place for me and I love going there, it feels like home. We have a lot of friends and family who go to that race, as well, and hoping we can get them a win with our Bass Pro Shops Camry.”

When you race at Dover, is it a larger contingent of friends and family than usual who get to attend and watch you race?

“No question, most of my friends and family come to that race. We’ve got quite the cheering section, which is pretty cool. We are racing so much all over the country that it’s nice to see some familiar faces and get to spend a little bit of time with friends and family. Maybe just a little bit of extra time before the race, but definitely well worth it.”

What do you and your team need to lean on to have a successful race at Dover this weekend?

“Just build on what we learned last year and so far this year, and I think it’s important we qualify well, so hopefully we do that. Generally, when you qualify well there, you get a good pit stall and it sets you up for a smoother day. Staying out front all day long is very important, and track position is very important since it’s hard to pass. It’s a very fast track and you want to keep your track position. Hopefully we can qualify well and it can set us up for a really good day. Corner speeds are so high at Dover that it does become hard to pass. But we’ve also had years where it’s been hard to pass and we’ve driven through the whole field there, like in 2019. You’ve got to get your car dialed in right and, if you can do that, you can do pretty much what you want with it.”

Why Regular Maintenance is Crucial for the Longevity of Your Vehicles

Owning a car, or any other vehicle for that matter is certainly a great thing because it simplifies life in many ways. But just like with most things that you have in your possession (particularly the pricey ones), it comes with specific responsibilities.

You cannot expect just to purchase an automobile at some point and to have that as the only expense as far as this is concerned. That’s not how things work. If you want your auto to run normally and to serve you for many years to come, then you need to maintain it on a regular basis.

This is a fact that every vehicle owner must be familiar with. If you’re still unsure whether it is truly essential or not, then maybe these facts below that we put together today will convince you that it is.

It Impacts Safety

Even though there’s no doubt that driving any type of vehicle can be very exciting, there’s no need to remind you that it can be risky too, especially if you haven’t done everything that’s in your power to ensure that your car is one hundred percent safe.

So ask yourself, do you really want to put yourself at risk, or anyone else who is in the automobile with you? If your answer is (hopefully) no, then it’s time to have your regular maintenance.

Even if you have a first-class vehicle, don’t forget that these things are not omnipotent and that over time, some things can go wrong. That’s why it’s crucial to have regular maintenance to see if there are some parts that need to be replaced or repaired.

One of those things is your tires. If you replace them on time, you will improve traction, drastically decrease the risk of road crashes, and most importantly, ensure maximum safety. These days, you can stumble upon a lot of places with a vast car tire range intended for all sorts of vehicles. So be sure to browse the web and buy some if necessary.

Aside from your tires, you could also experience issues with windshield wipers, braking systems, and many other components that you haven’t even noticed. These problems must never be overlooked, neglected, or postponed, otherwise, you may seriously jeopardize your safety, and the safety of your passengers.

Your Automobile Will Be With You Longer

There are so many things that you can do that are related to maintenance that can positively impact the longevity of your auto, such as fluid flushes, oil changes, parts replacements, etc. Some of these things can be done even by a regular car owner and not a professional.

Longevity is beneficial in so many ways. For starters, a vehicle that is regularly maintained won’t require as many repairs as the one that’s been neglected for quite some time. This means that you’ll save a bunch of cash in the long run.

On the flip side, the longer you have your car (this refers to any other vehicle as well), the longer you can go without needing to obtain a brand-new one. And there’s no need to remind you that new vehicles are far from cheap.

You will either need to set aside a substantial amount of money for it or opt for a down payment or maybe monthly payments. That’s why if you have a car that’s in a solid condition and being taken care of, you won’t need to stress over these things.

And Then There’s Increased Vehicle Performance

No car engine is ever going to be able to properly run if the automobile isn’t regularly maintained. If you drive it for a longer period of time, and you haven’t changed the oil, performed regular tune-ups and many other important things, then you will soon notice a decline in performance which is completely expected.

Don’t forget that you are not the only one who relies on your vehicle. It relies on your care as well. That’s exactly why it’s essential to maintain your vehicle on a regular basis because you can never predict if something will happen that’s going to negatively affect the performance of your engine.

And if you continuously postpone this, then you’ll be dealing with repairs and replacements that are far too expensive.

A Peace Of Mind

Having a peace of mind is invaluable. And you’ll have it knowing that you did everything that was necessary to make sure that everything is fine with your vehicle.

There are so many benefits to regular maintenance, and even though today we enumerated just a couple of them, we honestly hope that they showed you how important it is and that it must be always prioritized.

Top Slot Hacks for Online Casino Players

Image by Dinh Quan from Pixabay

Around the world, players of online casinos frequently choose to spend their time playing slots online. There are an infinite number of slot games that gamers may pick from on the internet. If you want to grow your chances of being successful, skill and knowledge are necessary since it is not easy to win online slots.

Manage and Boost Your Bankroll

Try and get the best winning odds at online slot sites such as rajaslot by upgrading your bankroll. To be this great when it is needed most, the key is to achieve those little wins that you less easily notice or notice only at the end.

  • Start with as little money as you can manage and keep on betting until you have almost the entire thing.
  • When you’re ready, raise your wager; nonetheless, monitor your money.
  • Play it well and accumulate money over time, and then later on, larger wagers won’t seem so hazardous.

Know the Rules of the Game

While it may seem that all slots are created the same, there are a variety of distinct game mechanisms at play that alter anything from the number of pay lines to the operation of bonus rounds. However, you may understand the game mechanics by playing a slot machine with an emphasis on gradually increasing your wagers.

If you continue to browse through the countless slot game types, you’re sure to locate a particular selection that best meets your requirements. All you need to do to become an expert online slot player is to begin by playing the most straightforward slot games

As you become familiar with a range of slot games, don’t forget to pay attention to the variations and any unique features that may exist. You’ll eventually be able to identify the greatest ones and, more crucially, the ones you should steer clear of.

Always Be Ready for The Unexpected

You can’t hope to spin the reels and come out on top. It is also of great importance for you that you are fully equipped to handle any obstacles you may encounter. If you lose, always remain composed and try not to allow your feelings to get in the way. Establish a boundary before you begin.

If you really must keep playing after your bankroll runs out, either stop while you’re ahead or adjust your bets properly. You’ll gain a lot of knowledge from your losses, but more significantly, you’ll discover strategies for building little victories over time and safeguarding against significant losses in the future.

Take Advantage of Bonuses and Promotions

Online casinos can attract new players, in addition to keeping the existing ones through having an array of promotions and bonuses. This is possible through the provision of these bonuses to the players as they can play non-stop action without having to put their money at risk. Welcome bonuses, no-deposit bonuses, free spins, and loyalty programs are a common list of frequent promotional tools in this sector.

Getting a profit from online slot sites such as rajaslot involves a bit of luck, know-how, and persistence. Attain the techniques and strategies of the best players in the online slot competition to maximize your wins and remain a winner in the game.

TOP FUEL REIGNING CHAMP DOUG KALITTA AFTER FOUR-WIDE SWEEP AT NHRA 4-WIDE NATIONALS

CONCORD, N.C. (April 22, 2024) – Doug Kalitta had always enjoyed four-wide racing, even if the results didn’t show ultimate success. But the reigning Top Fuel world champion checked off another milestone victory earlier this month, winning his first career four-wide race.

The standout veteran now has a chance to sweep the pair of unique races for the first time in his stellar career at this weekend’s NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte. It’s the “Bellagio of Dragstrips” and the originator of four-wide racing, which has long been considered one of the wildest spectacles in motorsports.

Kalitta has enjoyed the special spotlight the distinctive four-wide racing has created but had never won a four-wide event until doing so less than two weeks ago at Las Vegas in his 11,000-horsepower Mac Tools dragster. Riding high off that victory, where Kalitta ran low E.T. of each of the three eliminations rounds, the defending world champion is eager to quickly try and get a second victory in as many races in the four-wide format.

“We’re going to try to sweep (the four-wide races),” Kalitta said. “We’ve got some hungry guys on this team and I’m just as hungry as they are, so we’ll see what happens. Charlotte is an incredible facility and we’re looking forward to getting there. Bruton and Marcus (Smith) have put together some great facilities and we’re just fortunate enough to get a chance to race there.”

Austin Prock (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car), Deric Kramer (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) claimed victories in 2023 and this event will again be broadcast on FS1, including eliminations at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday. It is the fifth of 20 races during the 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series season and Kalitta Motorsports couldn’t have asked for a much better start.

Coming off of Kalitta’s first world championship to close out 2023, the team has enjoyed a spectacular 2024 thus far. Top Fuel’s Shawn Langdon and Funny Car’s J.R. Todd both won in Gainesville, giving the team its first-ever double-up, while Kalitta’s victory in Las Vegas gave the team its fourth win already this year. All three drivers are in the top four in points in their respective classes, with Kalitta also earning the No. 1 qualifier spot in Vegas.

His success also ensures he’ll be part of Charlotte’s first Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge event. The specialty race brings competitive racing to Saturday qualifying, putting championship points and a bonus purse on the line.

It gets even more unique in the four-wide format, with eight drivers competing for the bonus race title at zMAX Dragway. One quad includes Tony Stewart, Justin Ashley, Clay Millican and Antron Brown, with Kalitta, Steve Torrence, Brittany Force and Josh Hart making up the other foursome. The two top finishers in each quad will advance to the finals and the final Challenge round will feature a quad of racers running for the bonus purse and championship points.

“We’ve been really hungry to try and pull one of these four-wide wins off and I’ve got to admit, my guys really had my car running well (in Las Vegas),” Kalitta said. “None of this is easy, but Connie has given us some great cars and we’ve put together a heck of a team. We’re real fortunate to have had this success so far this year with all our cars. We’ll try to keep running strong and just trying to make Connie real proud of all of us.”

Last season, Prock collected his first win from zMAX in Top Fuel, but this season he has hopped into the Funny Car field and is the current points leader against a group that includes reigning champion Matt Hagan, three-time champ Ron Capps, Bob Tasca III, Chad Green, Cruz Pedregon, Gainesville winner J.R. Todd and teammate John Force.

Kramer’s win last season gave him his second Charlotte victory. If he wants to make it three, he’ll need to get past the four-time and reigning Pro Stock champion Erica Enders as well as Dallas Glenn, Cristian Cuadra, and five-time champs Jeg Coughlin and Greg Anderson, who picked up a win at the Charlotte fall race.

Pro Stock Motorcycle phenom Herrera dominated the category last season. His 2023 campaign featured 11 wins, including both Charlotte races. He is already off to a hot start in 2024 with a win at Gainesville, taking on six-time champion Matt Smith, three-time Charlotte winner Steve Johnson, Angie Smith and Hector Arana Jr.

In the Funny Car Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge, one quad includes Capps, Hagan, Todd and Paul Lee, while the other has Prock, Tasca, Alexis DeJoria and Chad Green. The Pro Stock Challenge features Jerry Tucker, Brandon Foster, Glenn and Erica Latino in one group and Enders, J. Coughlin, Anderson and David Cuadra in the other. In PSM, one Challenge quad includes Herrera, John Hall, Johnson and A. Smith, with Marc Ingwersen, M. Smith, Richard Gadson and LE Tonglet making up the other quad.

The NHRA 4-Wide Nationals will also feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, which features some of the sport’s top drivers, as well as the Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage Mountain Motor Pro Stock and the new Holley EFI Factory X category. The Summit Racing Equipment Jr. Drag Racing League Shootout will also take place in Charlotte. Fans can also look forward to the Mission #2Fast2Tasty Autograph Session at the Mission Foods Display and the Toyota Autograph Display, both of which take place on Saturday morning.

All weekend long, fans are invited to the Nitro Alley Stage at zMAX Dragway. The Nitro Alley Stage will be the main entertainment hub in the pits, hosting Nitro School, meet and greets, music and much more. Race fans can enjoy the special pre-race ceremonies that introduce and celebrate each of the drivers racing for the prestigious Wally on Sunday and includes the SealMaster Track Walk. The final experience of any NHRA event is the winner’s circle celebration on Sunday after racing concludes, where fans are invited to congratulate the event winners of the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals.

As always, fans also get an exclusive pit pass to the most powerful and sensory-filled motorsports attraction on the planet. This unique opportunity gives fans a chance to see teams in action and service their hot rods between rounds, get autographs and more. Fans can also visit NHRA’s popular Nitro Alley and Manufacturers Midway, where sponsors and race vendors create an exciting atmosphere that includes interactive displays, merchandise, food and fun for the entire family.

NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday, April 26 and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, April 27 at 12 and 2:15 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 28. Television coverage includes qualifying on FS1 at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday and then eliminations action at 6 p.m. ET to follow.

2023 NHRA Funny Car Champion Matt HaganPreviews This Weekend’s NHRA 4-Wide Nationals

Matt Hagan, a three-time winner at zMAX Dragway and the defending NHRA Funny Car champion, will look to notch his first victory of the season at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals this weekend. (NHRA photo)

CONCORD, N.C. (April 21, 2024) – As the NHRA’s best drivers prepare for the return of four-wide drag racing to zMAX Dragway this weekend, defending Funny Car champion Matt Hagan knows he’s got his work cut out for him to earn his fourth Wally at the Bellagio of drag strips and his first of the season. Despite a wildly competitive class – which saw the final four drivers separated by just 0.012 of a second at the four-wides in Las Vegas earlier this month – Hagan feels confident as he returns to his home track.

What he’s saying:

On the competitiveness of this year’s Funny Car class:

“The final that I was in, in Vegas, there was 12,000ths (of a second) difference between all four cars. I mean, it was unbelievable to have four cars running down there that fast in a final. And, you know, three of us got beat on a holeshot. But it was just a photo-finish final. And, you know, to have four funny cars run that close together is unbelievable.”

On what it takes to win 4-Wide:

“A lot of times, the motor is not happy or something’s happening, you would click it off and shut it down (in the two-wide format). (In four-wide, where two cars advance), it don’t matter whether you’re on fire upside down, you got to go to the other end, you know, because you don’t know if those other two cars even left the starting line. So it makes it very, very interesting. It’s definitely a twist that we don’t see anywhere else other than these two two events that Bruton has at those tracks (Charlotte and Las Vegas).”

On his outlook on the start of the 2024 season:

“We’re a little behind this year. Last year we won six races, and three of those six we’d already won by now. So, we’ve done some stuff with a change in combinations and in the motor and housing and a couple of different things. You have to always evolve and you have to always innovate. But, you know, when you do that, you change one thing. It changes stakes. So I feel like we’re just a little bit behind the eight ball. It’s exciting because when crew chiefs get it, they’re like, ‘oh, I got it,’ you know what I mean? So they’re always changing things. But it was nice to see the car last weekend in Vegas really respond to the changes.”

On giving advice to team owner Tony Stewart in his rookie season racing Top Fuel:

“I’m not really giving him any pointers unless he comes over and asks for something. I’m not one to be like, ‘hey, do it this way or do it that way.’ I think that, you know, at 300 miles an hour, you’re out there on your own, but you got to kind of figure it out a little bit, you know? That was the advice that was given to me when I drove Tim Wilkerson’s car for the first time to get my license. And, I mean, it rings true because, you know, until you make those mistakes and have that seat time, no one can tell you how to do it or what you did wrong.”

Hagan’s quest for his first Wally of the season starts Friday with qualifying under the lights as the dragway hosts its Night of Fire. All four pro categories will set the field with two rounds of qualifying on Saturday before elimination Sunday.

ABEL Motorsports trio poised for success at Barber

Sundaramoorthy looks to repeat his junior formula success, when he became the first Indian American driver to win an INDYCAR-sanctioned race

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (22 April 2024) – Riding momentum from the INDY NXT by Firestone season opener six weeks ago on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., ABEL Motorsports heads to the scenic roller coaster that is Barber Motorsports Park for the 35-lap Grand Prix of Alabama – part of the Children’s of Alabama Indy Grand Prix.

Drivers Jacob Abel (Louisville, Ky.) and Yuven Sundaramoorthy (Oconomowoc, Wis.) have raced at Barber before during their junior formula careers (four races for Sundaramoorthy, nine races for Abel), while Josh Mason (Maresfield, UK) will get his first look at the 17-turn, 2.3-mile road course this week.

Barber has long been a driver favorite, with 80’ of elevation changes and extremely high-speed corners. In fact, the slowest corner at Barber clocks in at nearly the same speed as the fastest corner at St Pete.

Sundaramoorthy, 21, achieved a milestone at Barber in 2021, becoming the first Indian American driver to score a win in an INDYCAR-sanctioned series race when he captured a dominant USF2000 Championship victory from the pole position.

“2021 really was a breakout year for me,” said Sundaramoorthy. “That year gave me a great deal of confidence as I continued up the ladder. I learned how to keep the momentum going through the inevitable ups and downs. That’s been the benefit of coming up through the ladder series, knowing the tracks and in some cases, having had success on those tracks.”

Heading into just his fifth INDY NXT weekend, Sundaramoorthy knows what he is looking for out of his ABEL Motorsports-prepared Dallara this weekend.

“Barber is such a high-commitment track: you have to have a good feel for the car, to know that you can trust the car, and just commit,” said Sundaramoorthy. “Finding that place with the INDY NXT car is the priority – if you make one tiny mistake, it makes a huge difference in time. Given how competitive the series is, one small mistake could be 10 positions.”

Abel, 23, hopes to capitalize on his second-place finish in the season opener on a track he knows well, having earned three top 10 finishes in four junior formula races at Barber. He topped the speed charts in the series test late last year so it’s unsurprising that he counts the track as one of his favorites.

“Of all the tracks we go to, Barber is probably the most fun to drive and the most liked by the drivers,” said Abel. “There are so many elevation changes and high-speed corners, and the track surface is so smooth, so it requires a very different set up in the car than St. Pete. We were super strong in the test so hoping to carry that momentum into the race weekend.”

Showing solid pace in his Stateside debut in St. Pete, Mason, 22, flew home after the race and went straight to the simulator, ready to learn everything he could about the track before seeing it for the first time this week.

“St. Pete was a good first step, looking at where we ended up compared with where we started,” said Mason. “Obviously, as a driver, you’re here to win, but for the first time in the car and the first time at St. Pete, there were some challenges, and I think we overcame them. We showed that we can compete at the front, with the pace we had. I’m comfortable with the car and the crew – ABEL Motorsports is a brilliant team. I’ve been with many different teams and ABEL is definitely the most open team, right from the start. They made me feel comfortable from the outset and looking at their history, they’re good at what they do and they’re very professional – but they have a fun side as well, which is a nice balance!”

With seven weeks between races, the break between St. Pete and Barber is the longest of the INDY NXT season. For Abel, living in Indianapolis and being near the shop – and coaching some of the junior formula racers – has helped to fill the time.

“It’s all about staying focused,” said Abel. “I’ve been at the shop a lot, working with all the team members and really making sure we’re on it come Barber. I’ve also been doing a lot of coaching in the lower categories which keeps me at a racetrack. I think just working with race cars on track and telling people how to go fast is really good mental training for me. Because of that, I feel as though I’m still in it.”

ABEL Motorsports thanks partners ABEL Construction Company, Advance Ready Mix, Boyd Cat®, S Team Motorsports, and OMP for their continued support.

The INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Alabama takes the green flag Sunday, April 28 at 11:05 a.m. Eastern. The race will be streamed live in the U.S. on Peacock, while international viewers can watch via INDYCARLIVE.com with INDYCAR Radio available at indycar.com/radio and on Sirius XM.

About ABEL Motorsports: Team principal Bill Abel began racing motocross in 1972, earning numerous championship titles as he continued the family tradition. In 2015, ABEL Motorsports was launched, starting in the USF2000 series and building up the junior open wheel ladder. The team captured the inaugural Formula Regional Americas Championship with driver Kyle Kirkwood in 2018.

ABEL Motorsports currently competes in the INDY NXT by Firestone series, the official development series for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, led by third-generation driver Jacob Abel. The team made its INDYCAR debut in 2023 with driver RC Enerson in the Indianapolis 500. For more information visit the official team website at abelmotorsports.com.
