Kaulig Racing reveals 2024 Cup Series crew chief lineup

Kaulig Racing took to social media to reveal its crew chief lineup for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season which features a new addition alongside a returning notable.

The person who is new to the team for this upcoming season is Travis Mack, who will assume two roles, the first as crew chief for Kaulig’s No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 entry in the Cup Series and the other as technical director for Kaulig’s Cup program.

Mack, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, joins Kaulig Racing after spending the previous three seasons at Trackhouse Racing, where he worked as Daniel Suarez’s Cup crew chief. He achieved his first career victory at Sonoma Raceway in June 2022, the same day where Suarez notched his first Cup career victory that enabled them to make the 2022 Cup Playoffs. Mack was also a crew chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in two Cup events in 2017 and for Kasey Kahne in 15 events in 2018.

Through 124 appearances as a Cup Series crew chief, Mack achieved one victory, one pole, 10 top-five and 27 top-10 results while working with three competitors. He also worked as a crew chief for 79 Xfinity Series events, where he achieved his lone victory at Daytona International Speedway in February 2019 with Michael Annett while working for JR Motorsports.

Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 entry is set to be piloted by multiple competitors for the 2024 Cup Series season, starting with AJ Allmendinger competing in this year’s 66th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in February. The remainder of the entry’s driver lineup and schedule for the 2024 season remains to be determined.

Returning to Kaulig Racing is Trent Owens, who will continue to work atop the pit box of the No. 31 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as a crew chief and for Daniel Hemric, the 2021 Xfinity Series champion who returns to the Cup Series after spending the previous three seasons in the Xfinity Series, including the last two with Kaulig Racing as he made the Xfinity Playoffs and settled in the top 10 in the final driver’s standings during both seasons.

Owens, a native of Davidson, North Carolina, is coming off his second full-time season as a Cup Series crew chief for Kaulig’s No. 31 entry that was piloted by Justin Haley. During the two-year stint, the duo achieved four top-five results and nine top-10 results, with their best points result being a 22nd-place result during the 2022 season. Owens’ first and only Cup victory to date as a crew chief spans back to July 2014 at Daytona International Speedway, where he led Aric Almirola and the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford team to a rain-shortened victory that enabled them to make the 2014 Cup Series Playoffs.

Through 348 previous appearances as a Cup Series crew chief, Owens has achieved one victory, 12 top-five and 40 top-10 results while working with 10 competitors. He has also accumulated five Xfinity Series victories and one Craftsman Truck Series victory as a crew chief.

Kaulig Racing’s 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season commences with the Busch Light Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on February 4 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX. This event will then be followed by the 66th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway which will occur on February 18 and air at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

Matt Swiderski named crew chief for Daniel Suarez for the 2024 Cup Series season

Matt Swiderski will be replacing Travis Mack as the crew chief for Daniel Suarez and the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season.

The news comes as the Chicago native is coming off his third season as a Cup Series crew chief for Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 entry. During the three-year stint, Swiderski achieved victories with veteran AJ Allmendinger at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course in August 2021 and at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course last October. During the previous season, he also led Allmendinger and the No. 16 team to a total of four top-five results and seven top-10 results before settling in 21st place in the final driver’s standings.

“Everyone sees what Trackhouse Racing is building and I am thankful for the opportunity to come to a winning organization and lead the No. 99 team,” Swiderski said. “I am looking forward to working with Daniel. We are both striving to achieve the same thing, winning. Every day we are going to work on perfecting the next steps that it takes to get more wins and compete for a championship.”

Swiderski, who received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University before attaining a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, spent the bulk of his early racing career at Richard Childress Racing, where he first worked as a data acquisition engineer before ascending towards becoming a race engineer both on the Xfinity and Cup Series divisions. After briefly departing NASCAR to join Space Exploration Technologies as a loads engineer in 2012, he returned to both NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing eight months later by assuming the title of chief race engineer, where he would eventually be named head of vehicle performance in 2014.

In 2017, Swiderski made his inaugural presence as a crew chief in the Xfinity Series, where he worked atop the pit box of RCR’s No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro entry that was piloted between Ty Dillon, Scott Lagasse Jr. and Brian Scott. Throughout the season, the No. 3 entry obtained four top-five results and 18 top-10 results before ending up in 11th place in the final owner’s standings. The following season, Swiderski joined Team Penske and worked as a crew chief for the team’s No. 12 Ford Mustang entry that was competing on a limited basis with rookie Austin Cindric and Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski, with the trio achieving a single top-five result and a combined five top-10 results in eight starts. Swiderski would lead the No. 12 team to a combined five top-five results and three poles in eight races, with the entry split between Ryan Blaney, Keselowski, Joey Logano and Paul Menard, before serving as Keselowski’s Xfinity crew chief for a single event in 2020 and two for Ty Dillon in 2021.

During the 2021 season, Swiderski joined Kaulig Racing as a crew chief for the team’s No. 16 entry in the Cup Series that was split between AJ Allmendinger, Kaz Grala and Justin Haley. He would remain as the crew chief for the No. 16 entry for the 2022 Cup season that was split between Allmendinger, Noah Gragson and Daniel Hemric before Allmendinger assumed the ride on a full-time basis in 2023.

Through 78 appearances as a Cup Series crew chief, Swiderski has achieved two victories, nine top-five results and 20 top-10 results while working with five different competitors.

The 2024 Cup Series season will mark Swiderski’s first at Trackhouse Racing and first being paired with Suarez. The 32-year-old Suarez from Monterrey, Mexico, is coming off his seventh full-time campaign in the Cup circuit and third with Trackhouse, where he recorded a pole position at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, three top-five results, 10 top-10 results, 48 laps led and an average-finishing result of 19.0 before settling in 19th place in the 2023 driver’s standings. His first and latest victory to date occurred at Sonoma Raceway in June 2022, a victory that enabled him to make the 2022 Playoffs before settling in 10th place in the final driver’s standings.

“Matt is a proven winner with a dynamic engineering background, and we are confident he will pair well with Daniel,” Justin Marks, Trackhouse founder and owner, added.

Jake Finch Returns to Venturini Motorsports for Expanded ARCA Menards Series Schedule in 2024

CONCORD, N.C.: Venturini Motorsports, the 2023 ARCA Menards Series championship team, confirmed today the return of rising phenom Jake Finch to the organization for an expanded 2024 ARCA Menards Series schedule beginning with this year’s season-opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway on Sat., Feb. 17, 2024.

The avid racer will expand his ARCA Menards Series platform schedule this season to include competing in both the premier ARCA Menards Series and select races in the ARCA Menards Series West for Venturini Motorsports.

“I am super excited to be back at Venturini Motorsports in 2024 and to be able to work with Shannon (Rursch), Kevin (Reed Jr.) and the rest of the Venturini Motorsports group again,” said Finch.

“We had some strong performances last year, and being able to win at Dover Motor Speedway was a huge step for me, but I have a lot to learn and things to get better at. With the support of my team though, I am eager to continue to learn and deliver more results this year.”

In addition to Daytona, Finch will pilot a Venturini Motorsports Toyota Camry in the premier ARCA Menards Series at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway (April 20), Kansas Speedway (May 4), Salem (Ind.) Speedway (July 27), Michigan International Speedway (August 16) and Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International (September 13).

The 18-year-old is also currently scheduled to compete in three ARCA Menards Series West races launching at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway (March 30), followed by Portland International Raceway (May 31) and the 2024 ARCA Menards Series West season finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway (November 8).

Venturini Motorsports co-owner and team principal Billy Venturini expressed his excitement about welcoming back Finch to the team’s lineup.

“Jake is a wonderful kid,” said Venturini. “I love him. He comes from a storied family and background. James Finch came to us and we knew it was a great fit. I have a lot of respect for James, and for him to trust us with the development of his son was an honor.

“I feel like Venturini Motorsports is where Jake is most at home, and he fits with the program. We expect good things for him this season.”

2023 ARCA championship crew chief Shannon Rursch will oversee Finch’s slate.

For Rursch, the opportunity to continue to work with Finch brings back memories. In 2009, Rursch was a part of the Finch family’s race team, Phoenix Racing, and celebrated the team’s inaugural NASCAR Cup Series victory at Talladega Superspeedway. Phoenix Racing was owned by Finch’s father, James, a predominant figure in the Motorsports industry for decades.

“I feel good, I am optimistic,” added Rursch. “I feel like I can continue to make a difference working with Jake. We won at Dover Motor Speedway last year and I certainly plan on improving our success. I get along great with him.

“We have a really good group of people and I think we can accomplish whatever we can set our minds to. We can achieve whatever goals we set.”

In his third ARCA Menards Series East start, Finch powered to a dominating victory at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway in the General Tire 125, leading a whopping 89 of the race’s 127 laps. Finch withstood an overtime ARCA East restart to edge Landen Lewis for his first career ARCA victory, edging his fellow competitor by 0.164 seconds.

In addition to his inaugural ARCA triumph, Finch raced in six ARCA Menards Series premier races last season with two top-five, five top-10s and six top-12 efforts.

“We got the win in Dover with Jake and that was a breakthrough race in his career,” added Venturini. “I feel like his ceiling is high we just need to get him where he is comfortable and compete as he did at Dover this season.

“I think Daytona will be a learning curve, but I think he can get results. I expect him to be better at Talladega. He is going back to some intermediate tracks for the second time, which will be beneficial, and I expect him to compete for wins on the short tracks. His schedule is a nice balance and he will keep our team in the spotlight.”

Finch will utilize the upcoming preseason test at Daytona International Speedway from January 12 – 13 to adequately prepare him for his ARCA Menards Series debut at the “World Center of Racing.”

“With the success of Venturini Motorsports at the superspeedways, I believe we can come out swinging at Daytona and hopefully put our Phoenix Construction Toyota and our family back in Victory Lane,” sounded Finch.

Vision Wheel Announces 2024 UNLTD Off-Road Racing Contingency Program

Vision Wheel, an official partner of UNLTD Off-Road Racing, will offer a contingency program for racers running with Vision wheels at this year’s Parker 400, BFGoodrich Tires Mint 400, and California 300. A total of more than $17,000 in cash will be available to racers who finish on the podium in the Unlimited Truck, Unlimited Truck SPEC, UTV Pro Open, UTV Pro, and UTV Pro NA classes across any of this year’s events.

The biggest contingency awards are available at the Mint 400 in March, where more than $7,500 in total will be on the line. Unlimited Truck podium finishers can take $1,000, $750, or $500, while the top three in Unlimited Truck Spec, UTV Pro Open, or UTV Pro will be competing for prizes of $750, $500, and $250.

At the Parker 400 and California 300, Unlimited Truck racers will compete for $750 for first, $500 for second, and $250 for third, while Unlimited Truck Spec, UTV Pro Open, and UTV Pro will have prizes of $500, $250, and $100 on the line for podium finishes. UTV Pro NA racers will compete for $500, $250, and $100 at all three events.

To be eligible for the awards, racers must run Vision wheels exclusively including spares and must run Vision Wheel stickers on each side of their vehicle. Stickers will be available at tech inspection for each event. Classes must have a minimum of five entries and racers must be classified as an Official Finisher for the award. Racers must also sign the Vision Wheel contingency agreement form before the race and tag @visionwheel and #wearevision in social media posts.

Seven Drivers Heading to the Beach on ARCA’s Road to Daytona

TEMPERANCE, Mich. (January 8, 2024) – As has been the case for more than a dozen years, select short track champions across the NASCAR Roots platform have been invited to participate in the annual ARCA Menards Series Pre-race Practice as a part of the series’ Road to Daytona program.

Seven drivers encompassing the two regional series that are a part of the ARCA Menards Series platform, the three ASA-branded touring super late model series, the ground-pounding open wheel cars of the Whelen Modified Tour, and the Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series have all received their invitations to spend a half day on the high banks at Daytona International Speedway on January 12 and 13.

The drivers will make laps in cars prepared by 1995 ARCA Menards Series national champion Andy Hillenburg’s Fast Track High Performance Racing Team with support from Ilmor, General Tire, Sunoco, Eibach Springs, and JRI Shocks.

The seven Road to Daytona drivers for 2023 are as follows:

Tyler Reif, Henderson, Nevada
ARCA Menards Series West

Then-15-year-old Tyler Reif kicked off the 2023 ARCA Menards Series West season with an improbable victory at Phoenix Raceway, a combination race with the ARCA Menards Series. Reif came back from a two-lap deficit to take the lead on an overtime restart, only to lose it to just as the caution came out again setting up yet another overtime restart. Reif outdueled fellow young gun Landen Lewis on the final restart to score the upset victory. He ended the 2023 ARCA Menards Series West season second in the final standings with one win, five top-five finishes, eight top-ten finishes, and two General Tire Pole Awards.

Sean Hingorani, Newport Beach, California
ARCA Menards Series East

Sixteen-year-old Sean Hingorani had a storybook season in 2023, competing in all three series across the ARCA Menards Series platform. Hingorani claimed the ARCA Menards Series West championship with four wins at Irwindale Speedway, Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway, Shasta Speedway, and Evergreen Speedway, and nine total top-five finishes. Despite missing one of the series’ eight races, Hingorani finished seventh in the ARCA Menards Series East standings with five top-five finishes, including four third-place finishes at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, Flat Rock Speedway, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, and the Milwaukee Mile. In nine ARCA Menards Series starts, Hingorani scored five top-five finishes – all third-place finishes – and one General Tire Pole Award.

Justin Bonsignore, Holtsville, New York
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour

The three-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion came up just short in 2023, coming home second to now two-time champion Ron Silk by just nine points after a tense battle at Martinsville Speedway. Bonsignore, 35, is a prolific winner in Mod Tour competition, collecting 40 checkered flags in 210 career starts. When he’s not winning, his car is still near the front of the field as he’s finished in the top-five in over half of his starts and finishing in the top ten 154 times.

Jacob Goede, Carver, Minnesota
NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series

The 38-year-old 2019 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series champion, Goede has won ten consecutive Super Late Model championships at Elko Speedway, and closed the 2023 season with five wins and 22 top-five finishes between Elko, where he won four times, and Lacrosse Speedway.

Chase Burda, Lapeer, Michigan
ASA CRA Super Series

Nineteen-year-old Chase Burda quickly advanced from quarter midgets, to street stocks, to full-size late models. The 2019 CRA Jr. Late Model champion advanced to the Jeg’s/CRA All-stars Tour in 2020, claiming the series rookie of the year award and finishing in the top five in series points and taking the series championship in 2023 with four victories, including the finale at the legendary Winchester Speedway. Burda finished second in the ASA CRA Super Series standings, 124 markers out of the lead.

Bryan Syer-Keske, Lakeville, Minnesota
ASA Midwest Tour

The 28-year-old capped off his first full season racing in the ASA Midwest Tour with a runner-up finish in the series’ cornerstone event, the Oktoberfest 200 at Lacrosse Speedway. Syer-Keske scored three top-ten finishes in eleven Midwest Tour starts, but the hallmark of his season was consistency. He never finished lower than 14th throughout the season, pushing him to the 2023 Midwest Tour rookie of the year award.

Michael Hinde, Hernando, Florida
ASA Southern Super Series

Hinde grabbed headlines in 2022, winning the Pro Late Model feature at SpeedFest and again at the World Series of Asphalt Racing at New Smyrna with a pair of Pro Late Model wins. He backed it up with a win in the Red Eye 50 at New Smyrna in January 2023 before making a splash in the Super Late Model. He competed for the ASA Southern Super Series championship, finishing fourth in the series standings with one top-five and four top-ten finishes in nine starts.

Notable Road to Daytona participants over the years include four-time ASA Midwest Tour champion and current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship contender Ty Majeski (2014), former ARCA Menards Series race winner and current mechanic for Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 48 Chevrolet Travis Braden (2013), NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie of the year candidate Layne Riggs (2022), and defending Daytona ARCA 200 winner Greg Van Alst (2020).

A total of 63 drivers spread across 35 cars are currently entered for the two days of practice at Daytona International Speedway, which is set for Friday and Saturday, January 12 and 13, with Sunday, January 14 reserved in case of inclement weather.

The 2024 ARCA Menards Series season kicks off at Daytona with practice on Thursday, February 15, General Tire Pole Qualifying on Friday, February 16, and the 61st Annual Daytona ARCA 200 set for 1:30 pm ET on Saturday, February 17.
