TOYOTA QUOTES

JUSTIN ASHLEY, Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel Dragster, Maynard Ashley Racing

Final Result: Finalist

Can you talk about the final round?

“This was a great weekend at the racetrack for our Phillips Connect Toyota Top Fuel dragster powered by Okuma. Our entire team did a fantastic job, and I could not be prouder. This was a team effort from the start to the finish. To be able to turn on so many win lights in a row is something that is so difficult to do in a sport that has so much competition. Today and the rest of the season we will have our guardian angel Cathi Maynard riding with us.”

J.R. TODD, DHL Toyota GR Supra Funny Car, Kalitta Motorsports

Final Result: Semi-Finals

How was your race?

“It was a good day, but I’m bummed to lose on a hole shot. When you lose on a hole shot, that’s on the driver. I feel like I should have been better than I was that round. We ran 3.95 (3.954 seconds at 324.20 mph), but we were trying to run better than that. I feel like we missed a good opportunity to win, and those opportunities don’t come around that often. It would have been pretty cool to win that 200th race for Toyota, but at the end of the day, it was a good effort. The car is definitely getting more consistent going down the track, and when you get down the track you learn. We just need to pick things up on my end, and we’ll be ok. Two semifinals in the last three races means we’re getting better going down the track and not beating ourselves. You have to go down the track to give yourself a fighting chance, and that’s pretty much all I can ask for as a driver. We have a great group of guys on this DHL Toyota team, and I know all their hard work will pay off – hopefully soon.”

Flying Lizard Splashes to Podium Finish in Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 25, 2023) – Watkins Glen International brought the rain last weekend as the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series came to compete for rounds three and four of the 2023 championship. Sports car racing team Flying Lizard Motorsports endured varying weather conditions all week long to earn a second-place finish as drivers Paul Nemschoff and Marc Miller became the first Lizard pairing of the season to earn their second podium result of the year.

“We had our challenges this weekend, but it was nice to have Paul Nemschoff and Marc Miller come home with a second place on the first day and gain good points in the championship,” said Program Manager Darren Law. “It also showed we had the pace to run up front. We are looking forward to the next round at Road America.”

Race One

Sadly, driver Tom Tait and the No. 64 Lamborghini sat sidelined for the weekend following an incident during the weekend’s first qualifying session that resulted in vehicle damage that could not be repaired on-site. His teammates continued on, with Johannes van Overbeek and Chris Bellomo starting from fifth, Slade Stewart and Andy Lee starting from eighth, and Paul Nemschoff and Marc Miller from tenth. The 36-car field had a clean start, and van Overbeek immediately charged forward, elbows out to bring the No. 68 Lamborghini up to ninth overall and fifth in class by the end of the opening lap. Twenty minutes into the race, Nemschoff advanced to ninth in class, beginning the No. 64’s climb through the Pro/Am class. The pink unicorn Lamborghini of Slade Stewart sat in the middle of its sister cars, running in eighth by the time the mandatory pit window opened. Each car came in for its required stop at the halfway point, and the secondary driver for each car took over. While the No. 14 and No. 41 cars were to be taken over by the pro drivers, Andy Lee and Marc Miller, Johannes van Overbeek finished out the opening stint in the No. 68 for Am driver Chris Bellomo to finish the race.

Rain started to descend on the track with 15 minutes remaining, just mere laps into the second stint. Several cars went spinning, bringing out a full-course caution. By this point, Miller had already climbed up to sixth in class, hungry for more positions with Andy Lee right behind in seventh, and Bellomo in ninth. The eight-minute sprint run of green racing played well into the hands of Miller, who charged forward through the Pro/Am field to earn a second place finish. Lee finished in eighth with Bellomo right behind in ninth.

Race Two

Since race two’s qualifying was cut short by a red flag that interrupted the session, the field for the final race of the weekend was set by fastest lap times in practice two. Andy Lee led the team charge in the pink unicorn Lamborghini, starting from second place. Poised to fight for another podium finish, Marc Miller started in the second row from fourth place in class. Chris Bellomo started from eighth in class. Lap after lap, Lee and Miller ran in second and third place throughout the first stint trading places just before the mandatory pit stops and driver changes. Bellomo and the No. 8 car of Nick Persing went side by side and off course in turn eight but were both able to continue. Nemschoff, Stewart, and van Overbeek took over for the second stint, but a slick track led to both Nemschoff and Stewart spinning on track. They were able to continue but lost precious ground. In the end, Stewart finished seventh, followed by Nemschoff in eighth, and van Overbeek in ninth.

The Lizards will have their chance at redemption for rounds five and six in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin at the fan-favorite course of Road America. The race weekend will again be in support of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, August 4-6.

Sound Bites:

“This was a great weekend for the No. 98 Monster Energy team, and it was a great way to start off this new part of the season with Davin Restivo, my new crew chief. I walked into the shop on Monday this week and that’s the first time I had officially met him. It’s going to take time to get our communication perfect, but he promised me fast racecars and he brought just that this weekend. I’m glad that I can get a great finish at a track that’s been good to me in the past. Excited for what’s to come.” – Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

“I’m super frustrated. I think we had a winning No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang today at Nashville. We worked hard to get our way up to second and try to get the lead, and it’s super frustrating to end like this. I hate that it took playoff points away from us. We had a really fast car. Jonathan Toney and the crew did a great job putting this car together. We’ll head to Chicago next week though and try to win.” – Cole Custer, driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

Next Up:

The next event on the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule is The Loop 121 on Saturday, July 1 at the Chicago Street Course in Chicago, Illinois. The race begins at 5 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by USA and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Ron Atapattu and Kevin Madsen Race Hard in Lamborghini Super Trofeo NA Race at Watkins Glen in Variable Conditions

Watkins Glen, New York, June 25 – The No. 24 Lamborghini Broward Super Trofeo EVO2 of Ron Atapattu and Kevin Madsen took to the track at Watkins Glen International for the IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series Rounds 3 and 4 this weekend with variable weather conditions.

The Laguna Seca Am class winning duo started the first race from P34 with Atapattu at the wheel of the Lamborghini Broward-sponsored Super Trofeo EVO2. He pitted on Lap 10 for Madsen to enter the cockpit. A caution flag was displayed with 13 minutes remaining in the 50-minute race following a little sprinkle of rain causing slippery conditions. The track went green with less than eight minutes remaining. Madsen brought the No. 24 Raging Bull across the finish line after 24 laps finishing sixth in the Am class.

In Race 2, the pair started from 14th position on the grid and third in class. Atapattu and Madsen swapped driver roles with Madsen as starting driver. He was charging hard and made a few passes during his stint, bringing the No. 24 Lamborghini Broward Super Trofeo to the front and class leader. Madsen brought the colorful red, white and blue Lambo in on the late end of the pit window, which started at the 28-minute mark of the 50-minute race.

Atapattu became driver of the No. 24 Wild Elephant Racing entry on Lap 14 and within two laps had to deal with avoiding a collision at Turn nine, which he did aptly. At race end and 25 total laps, the pair finished seventh in class. Madsen turned the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:49.014 during his hard charge to the front in the ANSA Motorsports-prepared Lamborghini Super Trofeo EVO2.

Quotes:

Ron Atapattu, Team Owner/Driver, No. 24 Lamborghini Broward Elephantea Super Trofeo EVO2:

“It was great to be back in the No.24 Lamborghini Broward Elephantea car again this weekend at Watkins Glen. We had a good battle going in Race 1 and I was glad to be able to escape from mayhem to finish in sixth position.

It was a shame the qualifying two round was called off due to a red flag, which meant we used times from practice two to set up the starting grid position. If not for that I think we could have started further up.

Kevin did a great job and especially getting us into the lead in the second race. I had some braking issues in Race 2 so had to manage them to get to the end of the race. It was a bit of a tough mechanical weekend for us, but we’ll go to the next round ready to go.”

Kevin Madsen, Driver, No. 24 Lamborghini Broward Elephantea Super Trofeo EVO2:

“It was super exciting to watch Ron in Race 1 before it was my turn to hop in. He had an epic battle going on with a faster car ahead and finally wore him down to make the pass. This is the type of stuff we discuss prior to the race, and it was great to see him execute so well at a track he hasn’t driven much.

“We knew Race 2 was going to be tough since I wasn’t able to get a lap in before the red flag in qualifying. Since they used our lap from practice when we had a fuel system issue, it meant the time wasn’t what it could have been. Even so I was very happy with my stint, overtook a couple cars from the get-go and ultimately got us up to first in class and right in the mix with the pro cars. The reaction from the ANSA Motorsports team when I came in was awesome. I loved their excitement and was happy I could make them proud of all the work they put in on a tough weekend.”

Allmendinger rolls to a chaotic Xfinity victory at Nashville

LEBANON, TENNESSEE - JUNE 24: AJ Allmendinger, driver of the #10 Bailey Zimmerman - Religiously Chevrolet, celebrates in victory lane after winning the NASCAR Xfinity Series Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville Superspeedway on June 24, 2023 in Lebanon, Tennessee. (Photo by Logan Riely/Getty Images).

AJ Allmendinger survived a series of caution periods and on-track chaos, including one that involved him at the start of the second stage, to muscle his way to the front, assume a late lead and fend off the field during two late-race restarts to win the Tennessee Lottery 250 at Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday, June 24.

The 41-year-old Allmendinger from Los Gatos, California, led three times for 25 of 196 over-scheduled laps in an event where he rolled off the starting grid in 11th place. After settling in third place at the conclusion of the first stage, he was then involved in a multi-car wreck at the start of the second stage that eliminated a handful of front-runners that included Cup Series rookie Ty Gibbs.

Following a methodical drive back to the front for the remainder of the event, he then muscled his way into the lead with 46 laps remaining. Despite losing ground amid a slow pit service under green during the proceeding laps, Allmendinger then managed to reassume the lead from Parker Kligerman with 11 laps remaining. Despite having to endure two late-race restarts, including an overtime attempt, Allmendinger did not relent as he fended off the field of Xfinity Series regulars to grab his second checkered flag of the 2023 season.

With on-track qualifying that determined the starting lineup occurring on Saturday, Cole Custer notched his third pole position of the season after posting a pole-winning lap at 157.020 in 30.493 seconds. Joining him on the front row was rookie Chandler Smith, who posted the second-best qualifying lap at 156.302 mph in 30.633 seconds.

Prior to the event, Connor Mosack and Zane Smith dropped to the rear of the field due to unapproved adjustments made to their respective entries. Joey Gase also dropped to the rear of the field as he started the event in a backup car and as a result of a driver change, where he replaced CJ McLaughlin.

When the green flag waved and the race commenced, early trouble struck through Turns 1 and 2 when Jeb Burton and Kyle Sieg made contact and triggered a multi-car wreck that included Ryan Sieg, his brother Kyle and Stefan Parsons while the rest of the field veered to the bottom lane to avoid the carnage. Also involved was Justin Allgaier, winner of last year’s event at Nashville, after he collided into Parsons sideways while Parsons smacked the outside wall head-on. Despite suffering cosmetic damage to his No. 7 BRANDT Chevrolet Camaro, Allgaier managed to continue while remaining on the lead lap along with the Sieg brothers and Jeb Burton while Parsons retired.

During the following restart on the eighth lap, Custer, who retained the lead through the event’s start and early caution period, continued to lead ahead of rookie Sammy Smith while Chandler Smith and Ty Gibbs battled for third. Entering the backstretch, Gibbs and Smith made contact, which caused the field behind Custer and Sammy Smith to fan out to three lanes. Then entering Turns 3 and 4, Austin Hill, who tried to overtake Gibbs and Chandler Smith for third amid three lanes, made contact beneath Gibbs and was sent spinning up the track as he barely clipped Jeb Burton before lightly backing his No. 21 Bennett Transportation Chevrolet Camaro into the outside wall while the rest of the field managed to dodge Hill’s incident. The incident was enough to draw the event’s second caution period.

At the start of the proceeding restart on Lap 14, Sammy Smith and Custer dueled for the lead as the field fanned out. With Ty Gibbs also fanning out and overtaking teammate Smith for second, Custer retained the lead as the field navigated its way through a full lap under green flag conditions. With Custer leading, Carson Hocevar, winner of Friday night’s Craftsman Truck Series event at Nashville, muscled his way into third while Sammy Smith and Riley Herbst occupied the top five ahead of AJ Allmendinger.

Three laps later, the event’s third caution flew when Chad Chastain, who was running in the middle of the pack, got loose entering Turns 3 and 4 and spun backward toward the outside wall as he also collected Ryan Ellis, who veered sideways and scrubbed the wall, while the rest of the field escaped unscathed.

When the race restarted on Lap 21, Custer and Ty Gibbs dueled for the lead as the field fanned out to three lanes entering Turn 1. Through the turns, Gibbs started to peek ahead with the lead ahead of Custer before he assumed the spot with full authority during the following lap. With Gibbs leading Custer, Sammy Smith was in third followed by Hocevar and Allmendinger while Herbst was in sixth ahead of Chandler Smith, Parker Kligerman, Brandon Jones and rookie Parker Retzlaff.

At the Lap 30 mark, Ty Gibbs was leading by more than a second over Custer followed by Sammy Smith, Allmendinger and Hocevar while Chandler Smith, Herbst, Parker Kligerman, Sheldon Creed and Sam Mayer were in the top 10. Behind, Brandon Jones was in 11th ahead of John Hunter Nemechek, Josh Berry, Allgaier and Hill while Retzlaff, Zane Smith, Brett Moffitt, Daniel Hemric and Kaz Grala occupied the top 20.

Nearing the Lap 40 mark, Ty Gibbs extended his advantage to more than two seconds over Custer while third-place Sammy Smith trailed by more than four seconds. Behind, Allmendinger and Hocevar remained in the top five while Chandler Smith was in sixth ahead of Herbst.

When the first stage concluded on Lap 45, Ty Gibbs, who was making his fourth Xfinity start of the season and swept both stages at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May, claimed his third Xfinity stage victory of the 2023 season. Custer trailed in second place by more than a second while Allmendinger, Hocevar, Sammy Smith, Chandler Smith, Herbst, Mayer, John Hunter Nemechek and Kligerman were scored in the top 10.

Under the first stage break, the lead lap field led by Ty Gibbs pitted for service. Following the pit stops, Hill exited first after only opting for fuel to his car followed by Gibbs. During the pit stops, Nemechek was penalized for having too many crew members over the pit wall.

The second stage started on Lap 52 as Hill and Gibbs occupied the front row. At the start, trouble struck for the front-runners when Hill made contact with Gibbs and sent Gibbs’ No. 19 He Gets Us Toyota Supra spinning through the first two turns, where he clipped Allmendinger and sent him spinning with damage before being hit by Hocevar’s No. 77 Premier Security Chevrolet Camaro against the outside wall as the rest of the field turned to the bottom of the track to avoid the carnage. In the midst of the carnage, Custer escaped with the lead followed by Mayer, Chandler Smith, Herbst and Creed while Gibbs and Hocevar retired.

During the proceeding restart on Lap 59, Custer and Mayer battled dead even for the lead until Custer, who restarted on the outside lane, prevailed to retain the lead ahead of Mayer. The caution, however, quickly returned during the following lap when Connor Mosack slid sideways toward the outside wall in Turn 2. While trying to straighten his car, his car then jerked back across the wall and smacked the wall before emerging with extensive damage on both the front and rear ends.

When the race restarted under green on Lap 65, Mayer peeked ahead to lead a lap for himself, but Custer reassumed the top spot amid a fierce battle between himself, Chandler Smith and Mayer. On Lap 67, Chandler Smith made his move to the front and emerged as the new leader while Mayer, Custer and Herbst battled for second. During the following lap, the caution flew again when Sammy Smith, who was battling Sheldon Creed for fifth place, was bumped by Creed through Turns 1 and 2. The contact sent Smith back hard against the outside wall as the rear end of Smith’s No. 18 Pilot Flying J Toyota Supra was left destroyed while Creed, who veered sideways amid the contact, was hit by an oncoming Brandon Jones, who veered sideways with left-front damage to his No. 9 Menards Chevrolet Camaro.

As the event restarted under green on Lap 75, Chandler Smith retained the lead ahead of Mayer while Custer rocketed his way up to third followed by Hemric, Herbst and Zane Smith.

By Lap 80, Chandler Smith was leading by more than a second over Mayer followed by Custer, Hemric and Herbst while Zane Smith, Nemechek, Josh Berry, Brett Moffitt and Retzlaff were in the top 10 ahead of Kligerman, Ryan Sieg, Allgaier, Hill and Grala.

When the second stage concluded on Lap 90, Chandler Smith claimed his second stage victory of the 2023 season. Custer settled in second followed by a hard-charging Hemric while Mayer, Herbst, Nemechek, Zane Smith, Berry, Retzlaff and Moffitt were scored in the top 10.

During the second stage break, where the event surpassed its halfway mark, the lead lap field led by Chandler Smith pitted. Following the pit stops, Chandler Smith retained the lead after exiting first followed by Custer, Hemric, Herbst, Nemechek and Zane Smith. Amid the pit stops, Herbst was penalized and sent to the rear of the field for an uncontrolled tire violation. In addition, Mayer, who pitted from fourth place, exited just outside of the top 10 amid a slow pit service, where he had to back his car while trying to leave his pit box after being blocked by Blaine Perkins.

With 91 laps remaining, the final stage started as Chandler Smith and Custer occupied the front row. At the start, Chandler Smith retained the lead following a push from teammate Hemric while Hemric challenged Custer for second. With Custer retaining the runner-up spot over Hemric, Chandler Smith continued to lead while Nemechek charged his way in fourth followed by Zane Smith and Allmendinger.

Six laps later, the caution returned when Kligerman spun in Turn 4 after receiving a bump by Kaz Grala, though Kligerman managed to quickly straighten his car below the apron and proceed without sustaining any significant damage.

With the race restarting under green with 79 laps remaining, Chandler Smith retained the lead ahead of Custer and Hemric, with Hemric launching his charge for the lead as he overtook Custer for second. Then two laps later, Hemric assumed the lead over teammate Chandler Smith. Smith, however, reignited another charge on his Kaulig Racing teammate as he reassumed the top spot during the following lap with Custer rechallenging Hemric for second. Behind, Nemechek and Allmendinger battled for fourth as Chandler Smith stabilized his advantage to half a second.

With 70 laps remaining, Chandler Smith was leading by four-tenths of a second over Custer and by more than a second over teammate Hemric while Nemechek and Allmendinger trailed in the top five. Smith would continue to lead with 60 laps remaining, but his advantage decreased to a tenth of a second over Custer as Custer methodically caught and challenged Smith for the lead. By then, Allmendinger, Hemric and Berry were in the top five while Nemechek, who was running in the top five a few laps earlier, made an unscheduled pit stop after reporting a vibration to his No. 20 Pye Barker Fire and Safety Toyota Supra.

Five laps later, the battle for the lead intensified as Custer drew his No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang into a side-by-side battle against Chandler Smith’s No. 16 Quick Tie Products Chevrolet Camaro. While Custer had the advantage on the inside lane, Smith refused to relent as he remained on the gas and maintained the momentum with a narrow lead on the outside lane. With both continuing to duke for the lead, Allmendinger joined the battle as he gained massive ground on the two leaders in his No. 10 Bailey Zimmerman – Religiously Chevrolet Camaro. The battle amongst Smith, Custer and Allmendinger soon narrowed down to six-tenths of a second with the trio still dueling for the lead with 50 laps remaining.

Two laps later, Allmendinger made his way into the runner-up spot after overtaking Custer before he proceeded to challenge his Kaulig Racing teammate Chandler Smith for the lead. With Custer losing ground on the two leaders, Allmendinger, who had managed to methodically carve his way back to the front following his Stage 2 incident, assumed the lead for the first time with 46 laps remaining while their third teammate, Hemric, was trailing in fourth place by more than three seconds.

Then with under 45 laps remaining, green flag pit stops commenced as Allgaier pitted along with Custer, Chandler Smith and Jeremy Clements. The race leader Allmendinger and teammate Hemric would also pit with 43 laps remaining as Berry cycled his way into a brief lead. Amid the pit stops, Smith and Custer managed to cycle ahead of Allmendinger, who endured a slow pit stop.

Down to the final 30 laps of the event and with nearly the entire field having made a pit stop under green, Kligerman, who had yet to pit, was leading followed by Allmendinger, who had overtaken teammate Chandler Smith, who was dealing with an ill-handling race car amid a slide, on the track while Brandon Jones, Smith and Custer were in the top five.

With 20 laps remaining, Kligerman, who remained on the track and was trying to conserve fuel to finish, continued to lead by more than six seconds in his No. 48 Spiked Light Coolers Chevrolet Camaro and over a hard-charging Allmendinger with third-place Custer trailing by more than nine seconds. Kligerman would proceed to lead by more than two seconds over Allmendinger with 15 laps remaining.

Then with 11 laps remaining, Allmendinger, who methodically gained ground and drew himself alongside Kligerman during the proceeding lap, overtook Kligerman for the lead entering Turn 1. Allmendinger would proceed to stretch his advantage to more than two seconds over Kligerman, who continued to run on fuel-conserve mode, with 10 laps remaining while third-place Custer trailed by more than three seconds.

Then with six laps remaining, the event’s 10th caution period flew when Chad Chastain spun in Turn 4. The caution period stalled Allmendinger’s progress as he was leading by more than two seconds over Custer while Kligerman was in third. During the caution period, six competitors that included the leader Allmendinger, Chandler Smith, Hill, Herbst, Berry and Hemric remained on the track while the rest led by Custer and Kligerman pitted.

With the race restarting under green with two laps remaining, Allmendinger was drafted into the lead with help from Hill as the front-runners fanned out, among which included Herbst as he bolted his way towards the front. Then in Turns 1 and 2, trouble struck for Chandler Smith after contact with Berry amid a tight four-wide action that also included Custer and Hemric sent Smith spinning up the track while the rest of the field scrambled to the bottom of the track to avoid Smith’s incident. Amid the incident, Allmendinger remained as the leader followed by Herbst, Hill, Hemric, Berry and Kligerman, but the return of the caution sent the event into overtime.

At the start of the first overtime attempt, Allmendinger managed to rocket away from Herbst and the field. The field behind would then fan out to multiple lanes through the backstretch as Allmendinger continued to muscle away with the lead entering Turns 3 and 4.

When the white flag waved and the final lap started, Allmendinger remained as the leader by eight-tenths of a second over Herbst, who was trying to fend off Hemric. Then just past the start/finish line, Hemric veered sideways, but he managed to straighten his car without triggering a wreck. Hemric’s loose moment, however, cost him a bevy of spots as Herbst, Hill and Mayer went by him. By then, Allmendinger was long gone with an advantage of more than a second through the backstretch. With the field battling amongst one another for as high as second, Allmendinger was able to cycle his way back to the finish line uncontested and score his second Xfinity victory of the 2023 season just as a multi-car wreck in the middle of the field erupted.

With his first victory at Nashville, Allmendinger scored his 17th career win in the Xfinity Series, his second of the season after winning at Circuit of the Americas in March and his first oval, superspeedway venue victory since winning at Talladega Superspeedway in October 2022. In addition, this marked the third victory of the season for Kaulig Racing’s No. 10 “all-star” entry: twice made by Allmendinger and once by Kyle Larson at Darlington Raceway in May.

“All thanks to all the men and women at Kaulig Racing,” Allmendinger said on USA Network. “We got [country artist] Bailey Zimmerman. He flew in from Chicago this morning. [It’s] Awesome to have him here and win a race for him. The car was really good. [I] Got caught up in that wreck on that one restart. [I] Thought at least our chance to win was over, but the guys did such a great job of fixing [the car]. This is one of those iconic trophies [Gibson guitars] you wanna win. What a cool way to do it.”

“All these wins are amazing,” Allmendinger added. “I love winning on ovals because I know a lot of people doubt me being on an oval. What a great time.”

Herbst, racing for the first time with new crew chief Davin Restivo, settled in a career-best second place for the third time in his career and after coming off eight consecutive events of finishing no higher than 14th. Mayer ended up third while Hill and Berry finished in the top five.

Nemechek came home in sixth place while Zane Smith, Hemric, Custer and Retzlaff finished in the top 10. Behind, Kligerman, Moffitt and Allgaier, all of whom wrecked approaching the finish line, ended up 11th, 14th and 15th, respectively, while Chandler Smith rallied his way to 12th.

There were 17 lead changes for 11 different leaders. The race featured a record-tying 11 cautions for 58 laps. In total, 16 of 38 starters finished on the lead lap.

With 11 Xfinity regular-season events remaining on the schedule, John Hunter Nemechek leads the regular-season standings by nine points over Austin Hill, 41 over Justin Allgaier and 51 over Cole Custer.

TOYOTA QUOTES

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 20 Pye Barker Fire & Safety Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 6th

How was your race?

“I think the biggest thing for me – we just have to do a better job on execution. We didn’t qualify well, partly on me. I messed up, and then we had a pit road penalty, which sent us to the back. We had a right front wheel loose. We came in way earlier than everyone. I tried to manage on old tires. With the day that I had, I know we probably passed the most cars here today. I’m just glad we were able to make it back to sixth and salvage a very good points day on the two guys we are racing for the regular season championship. Not a win – I feel like we had close to the speed to win – but it is awesome to have Pye Barker onboard our Supra with their new logo unveil. We got them, almost, top-five. We just have to keep being consistent.”

KAZ GRALA, No. 26 CRUSH Tropical Punch Toyota GR Supra, Sam Hunt Racing

Finishing Position: 16th

Crazy day with the heat and on-track incidents. Can you talk about your day?

“At least we brought our no. 26 CRUSH Supra home, pretty much not a scratch on it. Just wasn’t the day we were looking for – we didn’t have anywhere near the speed that we feel like we should have had. I couldn’t get the handling on it. Just one of those hard-fought days – but all-in-all, in terms of execution, I think we got everything we could have got today. No glaring mistakes, so that’s good. I think you saw a lot of other guys out there not be able to say the same. Can’t complain too much, but hopefully, we can go back to the drawing board, and see if we can find a little bit of something that we’ve been lacking here lately and try to get our speed back where we feel like we should be.”

SAMMY SMITH, No. 18 Pilot Flying J Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 34th

Are you surprised of the chaotic nature of today’s race?

“Yeah, for sure. I’m not sure (what happened) I thought I gave him plenty of room. He got free and kind of just hooked a right. Thanks to Pilot Flying J, TMC, Allstate Peterbilt Group, Golden Harvest, Toyota – everybody that gives us fast race cars. We just lost some track position there and that hurt us.”

TY GIBBS, No. 19 He Gets Us Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 37th

What do you make of today?

“It is frustrating. Just not a good spot to be in there. I feel like we were really fast – just got cleaned out. Just part of it. The He Gets Us Toyota Supra was really fast. Thank you to He Gets Us. We will move on. Hopefully a lot of people can learn a lot of things from the first 55 laps of this race.”

It was crazy.

“Yeah, it was. If we didn’t have a torn-up race car, I feel like we would have had a shot, but we will keep going. I appreciate the opportunity from He Gets Us and Toyota. Thank you to Tyler Gibbs, Jack Irving – everybody back there – Paul (Doleshal) and all of the hard work they give and my crew chief Jason (Ratcliff).”

Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport Lamborghini Super Trofeo Continue Winning Ways at Watkins Glen

(Watkins Glen, N.Y.) June 24, 2023 — The Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) team continued their success within the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Championship at Watkins Glen International. The four-car stable came away with an overall weekend sweep by Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal, two additional podiums by PRO driver Ryan Norman and LB Cup Rookie Graham Doyle as well as a top five finish by Nate Stacy and Nick Persing in the PRO|AM class.

Reigning PRO Class Champions, Marcelli and Formal, have won all four races in the LST season to date following Saturday’s win at Watkins Glen International. After qualifying third in the PRO class for Race 1, it was all focus to the front come Friday’s race. With an impressive start to gain crucial track positions, Marcelli handed over the wheel to Formal to finish out the 50-minute race. With two laps remaining, Formal drove two stellar laps to close a 4.5-second gap on the leader and take the overall win after their competitor was served a time penalty, placing the No. 1 on the top step of the podium. Saturday’s Race 2 saw the No. 1 WTRAndretti machine start on pole position – after a red flag in Qualifying 2 forced the field to start by positions from Practice 2. Formal built a steady lead of nearly three seconds ahead second place before coming into pit lane for the driver change to Marcelli. Marcelli assumed the lead after the pitstop to drive into Victory Lane for the fourth-consecutive race – both of the 2023 LST season and at Watkins Glen.

Following success at his first Lamborghini Super Trofeo event in Laguna Seca, Ryan Norman was on the hunt for the top step of the podium come this weekend at Watkins Glen. After starting second in the PRO class for Race 1, Norman was able to pilot his No. 84 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Huracan EVO2 onto the third step of the podium, marking the third overall podium of his LST career. As Saturday’s Race 2 rolled around, Norman quickly found himself into second position as the second race of the doubleheader unfolded. In the closing laps, Norman was on the tail of his WTRAndretti teammates, contending for the win, when a mechanical failure ended the day for him, agonizingly shy of the checkered flag.

Entering the PRO|AM class this weekend, the No. 8 WTRAndretti machine piloted by Nate Stacy and newcomer Nick Persing saw two solid results by the new co-driver pairing. In their PRO|AM debut during Friday’s Race 1, Stacy and Persing were able to navigate heavy traffic of other classes to bring home a sixth-place finish. Keeping it clean through a busy Race 2 on Saturday, Stacy and Persing closed in their fellow class competitors to earn fourth in the PRO|AM category.

Taking on his second LST race of his career, rookie Graham Doyle saw the best weekend at Watkins Glen International as the 17-year-old qualified second in the LB Cup class for Race 1 and the red flag in Qualifying 2 placed the No. 10 DEX Imaging WTRAndretti entry on LB Cup pole position for Saturday’s race. Learning from his fellow WTRAndretti teammates, Doyle was able to keep control of his machine as Friday’s Race 1 saw brief wet conditions, propelling him on the LB Cup podium in a richly rewarding second place finish. Starting from pole position in LB Cup in Race 2, Doyle was focused on holding his track position, but a crowded track shuffled the No. 10 around to finish seventh in LB Cup.
Next for the WTRAndretti Lamborghini Super Trofeo stable is Road America in just over a month’s time on August 4-6th, 2023.

Kyle Marcelli, No. 1 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO)
“First off, thank you to WTRAndretti, Harrison Contracting for giving us this opportunity. Today’s race was a fun race. Every race is different and unique and today, we did have a little bit of pressure from our sister car. Danny’s last two laps, he started to comment on a vibration on the front left – which had everybody alarmed and concerned. The team looked it over in the pits and it seemed okay. I felt it right away, so it had me a little on edge and at that point you’re managing. You have the lead, and you just want to manage the gap. I got hurt bad in traffic and I came up on a gaggle of four or five cars and think I lost like three seconds just parked behind them in the Bus Stop. That put the sister WTRAndretti car behind us. I said, ‘OK, boys, I’m going to turn up the wick here for two laps and just get away.’ That’s what we did and then it was just sort of managing (the gap) again. Danny did a monster drive at the beginning – quick lap of the race – and we continue to push each other. It’s a lot of fun.”

Danny Formal, No. 1 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO)
“I’m just so grateful to be part of this organization. Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport, the support we get from them is everything. I got everyone a little nervous and their heart racing when I said I had a front left tire vibration. Luckily was off with it and we managed. The car was fantastic, it was a rocket ship. The first ten laps of that race were incredible. Super grateful for Harrison Contracting, our main sponsor on this car, and ShipSigma, our new sponsor – getting a double win for them here at Watkins Glen. This is our second double win, winning four times here in the last two years.”

Ryan Norman, No. 84 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO)
“Overall, we had great pace all weekend. Yesterday, I struggled a little bit at the end of the race – I used too much of my front tires. The second race was near perfect, especially there at the end when we were catching the No. 1 car by a lot. We had four minutes left, came out of Turn 1 and was going to battle for the lead then a mechanical failure. We will come back stronger next race and we’ll keep battling for the lead.”

Nate Stacy, No. 8 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO|AM)
“This weekend went really well. Obviously, not the result we wanted, we wanted a podium and we tried really hard for it but couldn’t quite get there. We were about five seconds back, but we were closing pretty quickly. I think if we had a few more laps, we could’ve got there. I think Nick (Persing) drove extremely well. He has never driven a sportscar before, he’s only driven open-wheel – nothing with ABS. For him to show up at his first weekend at a track he has never been to, in a car he’s never driven and drive as well as he did, it speaks dividends to him. I can’t wait for some testing to hopefully get some more seat time under our belts and try some different things out to get us more comfortable. It’s always a work in progress. The goal is obviously to challenge Danny and Kyle for the win overall if we can, but at the end of the day the car came home in one piece. We’ll go onto Putnam Park for testing with no repairs required. I couldn’t think of a better team to do it with than WTRAndretti. Everyone’s been awesome all weekend, couldn’t ask for more.”

Nick Persing, No. 8 WTRAndretti Lamborghini Super Trofeo (PRO|AM)
“This weekend was great. The WTRAndretti team gave me a great car to go compete with. Race 1 went well. I was on track for a podium, but then there was a restart, and it was just hard to hold on. I’ve never driven a GT car before, never been to this track before, but P6 in class wasn’t too bad so I was happy with that. As well in Race 2, I was battling with some people and made a mistake, because I don’t not know the track or the car. In the driver change, Nate did an amazing job to claw back up to ninth overall from 21st. We ended up finishing fourth in class and it was an amazing experience overall.”

Graham Doyle, No. 10 DEX Imaging with WTRAndretti Lamborghini Super Trofeo (LB Cup)
“I learned a lot this weekend at Watkins Glen. In Race 1, I was able to push through the traffic and in the end got my first podium, finishing second. The entire Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport team put me in the best car and in the end, I believe it showed.”

Rollan Makes Mazda MX-5 Cup Victory Lane Return at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 24, 2023) – After a winless streak that lasted more than a year, Selin Rollan (No. 87 Hixon Motor Sports) made his return to the top step of the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich® Tires podium at Watkins Glen International. He started and finished the race at the front of the field, but it was not an easy drive to victory lane. Gresham Wagner (No. 5 Spark Performance) lost a drag race to the finish to score second place as Robert Noaker (No. 13 Robert Noaker Racing) took third in the Round Seven race.

Rollan may have started and finished the 40-minute race at the front of the field, but it was by no means easy.

The race got off to a dramatic start as a three-wide scramble at the top of the high-speed Watkins Glen Esses saw Matthew Dirks (No. 76 McCumbee McAleer Racing) get sideways and into the path of the ensuing field. Seven cars were entangled in the incident with no way to avoid contact.

One of the cars caught up in the mayhem was guest driver James Hinchcliffe (No. 3 JTR Motorsports Engineering), who had started eighth. The IndyCar veteran was able to sneak through but damaged the left side of his car. During the safety car period, the car’s rocker-panel started to drag and he was called into the pits by race control to remove the debris. He rejoined at the back of the field.

After a lengthy caution period to clean up the debris, Rollan led the way to the restart, but was freight-trained by a pack of cars and fell to fifth.

Reigning series champion Jared Thomas (No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering) and Wagner then took over the fight for the lead. The pair seemed to be creating a gap to the rest of the pack until Wagner had a big moment through the grass in the Bus Stop. From then on it was a five-car battle for the win.

Rollan benefited from having his teammate Thomas Annunziata (No. 10 Hixon Motor Sports) join the lead pack with four laps to go. The two worked together to carve a way through the competition and eventually to the front.

Wagner would not give up his shot at a win easily. He dispatched Annunziata quickly and made every attempt at passing Rollan on the final lap but couldn’t make anything stick.

Rollan took the win by 0.062-second after drag racing Wagner to the finish line.

“It feels really, really great to be back up on the top step of the podium,” Rollan said. “We haven’t had the best year—it has been a good year as far as being consistent, and being in contention, but we just haven’t really been all the way up there. I’m really happy to get my first win of the season and to get Austin Hatcher Foundation into Victory Lane here.”

The 2018 MX-5 Cup Rookie of the Year was quick to thank his team for the overnight repairs made to his car following a big hit in Friday’s race.

“I’m thankful for Hixon Motor Sports, the whole crew, my dad, everyone on the team stayed late into the night last night to get this car ready to race after the crash. I am sorry Brian [Hixon] and Karen [Hixon] weren’t here, but thanks to them and Shea [Holbrook] and everyone working on this team. I had a lot of help to get to the win—a big thank you to Thomas [Annunziata] for all the pushes, that was really selfless of him. We worked together and both got decent finishes, and I’m looking forward to keeping this going!”

Wagner, who started the race from 12th, was relieved to be on the podium after contact with the wall on Friday ended his race early.

“It was mainly just bodywork thankfully from the crash yesterday and luckily the crash looked worse than it was,” Wagner said. “It’s tough here. Everyone says Road America is the super speedway, but this place is the craziest. You can go from the lead to fifth or sixth just like that. I got lucky that they were racing behind me so I could focus ahead. I thought I had a shot at it, but me and Selin have been doing this a long time and I knew he’d be hard to beat and that it was going to be hard but clean. But still really happy to get second after the race yesterday.”

Noaker captured his first podium of the season, finishing third. He has returned to MX-5 Cup competition after a two-year hiatus and admitted he struggled to come to grips with the new (to him) car earlier in the season.

“It feels great,” Noaker said of his podium. “We’ve been struggling the first part of the year just trying to get our feet back into it. With the changes in the car the setup seems to be a good bit different from when we raced it last. We did some testing before this weekend here, found a lot of stuff and throughout the weekend we had pace the whole time, but qualifying didn’t quite work out for us for the first race. Half of the race today was under caution, but the shorter race, at the end, kind of makes it more exciting. I just want to thank Velocity Mazda, Slipstream Performance and Robert Noaker Racing and everyone there. Without them it wouldn’t be possible”

Annunziata narrowly earned his second podium in-a-row but came up one spot short in fourth.

Thomas completed the top five.

Hinchcliffe ultimately finished 10th after dropping to the back of the field.

“We had a much better start than yesterday and picked up a couple of spots,” Hinchcliffe said. “I just got a little bit of body work damage. We’re running sixth and I tried everything to shake it off, but unfortunately it didn’t come off on its own. So we had to come in under yellow and get it taken off. That dropped us back, but I think it still made for a fun race for me.
“It was such a fun weekend,” Hinchcliffe added. “I can’t thank Mazda and JTR enough for the opportunity to come do it. And hopefully they will call me back to do it again because it was as much fun as I’ve had in a race car in a very long time.”

Mazda MX-5 Cup teams will have some time off before Rounds Nine and 10 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, August 4 – 6. All MX-5 Cup races are available to re-watch on the IMSA YouTube channel.

ROSS CHASTAIN, NO. 1 WORLDWIDE EXPRESS CAMARO ZL1 – Pole Winner

TAKE US THROUGH THAT QUALIFYING LAP. YOU TALKED EARLIER TODAY ABOUT HOW STRONG YOU FELT YOUR CAR WAS AND YOU GUYS WERE ABLE TO BACK THAT UP DURING QUALIFYING.

“Yes, ma’am. In round one for us over the last two years with the new car has been relatively, at times, strong. Definitely qualifying as a whole has not been my strong suit in my life, so a lot of work has went into it and not a lot of payoff.. not a lot of reward. Even the times that we do tie together round one, I’ve never been able to put round two together in a way that I’m proud of and that I feel like I’ve done right. I usually overdrive and when I should just go the same speed, or a little slower even and be fine, I usually slow down even more because I try to go faster. Today was all about minimizing the loss. Round one, I felt pretty good. I over slowed turn one – basically slowed down too fast in turn one. I wanted to make that better – I have no idea if I actually did, I haven’t looked at any of the information or data yet.

We’re pretty pumped up that we got this pole. I know that I didn’t mess it up too bad, obviously. I ran basically the same lap time, which was really challenging with it getting hotter and the second lap on tires.”

YOU HAD A REALLY GOOD LAP. COULD YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT THIS MEANS FOR TRACKHOUSE – THIS BEING THE FIRST POLE FOR THEM AND IT BENIG THE FIRST POLE FOR YOU?

“Yeah, I mean look – we’re in Nashville. This is where Trackhouse was formed. It was started here with Justin (Marks) living here. We are Nashville’s team. With the Tootsies group with Steve and everybody, it’s incredible to have it happen here. It’s amazing. For me, personally, it’s amazing that it hasn’t happened before with how strong Daniel (Suarez) is at qualifying. Since I’ve become teammates with him, at road courses, my margin is two-tenths. If I’m within two-tenths of Daniel, I’m pretty happy. At intermediates and stuff, we’re kind of 100th for 100th with each other, and we saw that in round one. So for me, it’s been a labor of a lot of work and schooling, personally, to try to be better. We did a mock run yesterday just to keep working on it. It’s not necessarily the best thing to do for race-wise, but my team has put a lot of work into me. My engineers have done a really good job of explaining where I’ve went wrong in the past, even in times that I wasn’t driving the No. 1 car but with other teams. They’ve looked at that and tried to understand my philosophy when we go to qualifying – which has generally been more gas, less brake, go faster. That doesn’t always work… most of the time it doesn’t work. So they’ve been on me to literally, as simple as it sounds – less gas, more brake, earlier brake, later on throttle and let the car work. I’ve struggled with this single-lap qualifying. If we have two laps, I would say my numbers are a whole lot better. Group qualifying when we had minutes to go, I could take a couple of laps and I’d be really good. One lap, coming to the green and checkered, has been so frustrating for me for my entire career.. definitely in NASCAR.

It’s so rewarding right now. This is a day I will never forget.”

FIRST POLE MEANS YOU’RE GOING TO GET THE COVETED P-1 PIT BOX. HOW BIG OF AN ADVANTAGE WILL THAT BE AT A PLACE LIKE NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY?

“I don’t know, I’ve never been there (laughs). I’ve never gotten it in Cup, so I have no idea. Trackhouse Racing has never had it either. We do our pit road studies every week; we know the numbers and the math. We’re going to have to go and whatever pit box is best – I’m assuming it’s going to be the first one, but that’s up to Phil Surgen and our group at Trackhouse Racing and GM to decide.

But yeah, I have no idea what it’s going to be like, but it feels pretty good right now.”

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT TOMORROW – BEING ON THE POLE OR BEING SECOND IN 10-LAP AVERAGE AND SPEED YESTERDAY?

“Yeah, long run speed, for sure. It’s nice that we’re not going to have to pass a bunch. Hopefully everything stays how it is and we get out to a lead there. But race trim-wise, it’s super strong. Really good balance. It doesn’t feel great. Going through the corners here, they always feel slow to me because there’s not a lot of banking and it’s concrete. But it shows really good. I would rather have good average speed than single lap, but we put a lot of work into single lap, for sure.”

YOU WERE REALLY EMOTIONAL WHEN YOU GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WAITING FOR THE POLE TO BE DECIDED. TEARS OF JOY, TEARS OF RELIEF?

“The tears out there were of joy and satisfaction; just happiness that it’s paid off. All this comes down to speed; hundreds and thousandths of a second and that we were able to do it. So much work for years and it didn’t pay off, and it paid off. That’s what those were.

Everything else, I’ve learned at 30 years old to embrace this room. Embrace everybody that throws opinions and thoughts my way. I take them and I bounce them off my team, personally and professionally; with my family and my group both in Trackhouse and out. They help me walk through that. But mentally, I just form my own opinion. I take everybody’s little bits and I make my own thoughts.

Look, we’re all human. When people tell you that you’re slow, then it’s easy to think that you’re slow. I have a good support through and they like to remind me why we’re here; that we’re in the Cup Series and this is where we wanted to get to. We did not have a clear path here, but we got here and now we’re going to stay here.

Personally, I’m happy for my team and me. I mean I’m selfish – this was about the work that we’ve put in. How many times I’ve had cars capable of qualifying on the pole in the Cup Series, and then down through every rank from the very first pro truck division that I did at 12 years old. There were times, so many, that should have been pole laps and I messed them up. So this today, on this stage, we are able to do it. All that said, I could have very easily spun out. So glad I made it.”

IS THIS POLE A LITTLE BIT MORE SPECIAL KNOWING THAT IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE YOU’RE BACK IN THE POSITIVE LIGHT AND THE POSITIVE HEADLINES? HOW MUCH MOMENTUM DOES SOMETHING LIKE A FIRST POLE CARRY FOR YOU GOING INTO SUNDAY?

“Personally, it’s a day that I will truly never forget. No matter how the weekend goes or the rest of the year, I will always have a memory of today. We all have key, core memories within our lives and in our minds.

I don’t really know how this changes in the spotlight and things like that. I’m me. Trackhouse gets the good and the bad, and our sport as a whole gets me for who I am. Everybody expects me to just be like very repeatable and robotic, I feel like. That I should just be one way or the other. I’m human.. I’m going to do things different each time and try to be better. I’m not going to do the same thing over and over because if I want to do that, I’d be really good at failing and I don’t like failure. I don’t like crashing. I want to win. I will continue to evolve to do that. I’ve got a really good group around me that gets me through the bad days. We celebrate the good days and work through the bad ones, and keep working in the good ones, as well.”

AVERAGE FINISH HERE IS 3.5 IN THE CUP SERIES. WHAT IS IT ABOUT YOU AND NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY THAT YOU SEEM TO ADAPT SO WELL?

“I’ve got a really good crew chief and engineers that give me rocket ships. This was our, really I would say, arrival to the fast club in the No. 42 car in 2021. The high power, low downforce package that year was definitely our stronger suit. But we unloaded here second quick – raced up in the top-10 all day and came home second. Last year, it was similar. Had a lot of speed. I thought we had a pole qualifying car and I just went 2.5 mph too fast through turns one and two; I got tight, slid up and lost two-tenths. I tried to go too fast. So today was all about keeping that speed down in the critical parts. Obviously going faster the whole lap, but giving up some to gain it back later. We’ve had speed all three years. I prepare just like any other track. I don’t put any track ahead of the others, but it starts with Phil Surgen and our support group at Trackhouse and GM. They’ve got a good handle on this place and it shows. You saw both Daniel (Suarez) and I were two of the fastest cars in round one.”

JUSTIN HALEY, NO. 31 LEAFFILTER GUTTER PROTECTION CAMARO ZL1 – Qualified third, Haley’s first top-10 qualifying effort this season

“Just hats off to everyone at Kaulig Racing. They’ve just worked so hard to this point. Everyone at RCR has done a tremendous job in helping us. I feel like over the past month, we’ve really gotten our program into a spot where I feel better driving the car. The car reacts to what I’m doing.

Just super proud of everyone. It’s been an awesome weekend and hopefully we can stay up there. I feel like qualifying is the most important part with track position because passing is so difficult at this top level of motorsports. Excited for tomorrow.”

YOU’VE PRACTICED AND QUALIFIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. IT’S GOING TO BE DIFFERENT CONDITIONS TOMORROW NIGHT FOR THE RACE. ARE YOU EXPECTING THE RACE TRACK TO CHANGE DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT YOU’VE EXPERIENCED SO FAR?

“Well hopefully our car is better in the nighttime. Last night it got a little bit cooler in practice, but you just don’t know. We’ll just have to go back through our notes and see what the track does. It’s a concrete track, so it’s a little bit different. I wish I could give you a better answer, but I just don’t know.”

JOEY LOGANO, No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Mustang (Qualified 4th) – “It was pretty slick there in the second run, for sure. But hey, I think that’s a pretty decent qualifying effort for us – starting toward the front with a good pit stall. Being outside in the second row is probably a good place to be. We’ll try to have a good points day and put ourselves in the position to win. If we can call the right race and do the right things… The execution will be everything tomorrow. Tire fall-off isn’t really big, and as the sun goes down, it’ll probably be less. That will present a lot of opportunities for some different things, depending on how cautions play. It’s hot, which makes it worse (how slick track conditions are). Then that bump down there (Turn 3): Everyone has their cars so low, you hit the bump and it bottoms out, and then around you go. It’s a pretty sketchy lap for sure. I was shaking when I got out – probably still do a little bit. But, that’s how you know you got it all.”

BRAD KESELOWSKI, No. 6 Solomon Plumbing Ford Mustang (Qualified 20th) – “The track is actually in really good shape. We’re just looking to be a little faster. It’s a big track position race. Tires aren’t wearing if you get up front and can keep it there.”
