A Guide to UAE’s Public Transportation System for Tourists and Its Alternatives

The UAE is one of the most developed parts of the world. All seven states and the major cities are easily accessible to everyone. Many parts of the UAE are some of the hottest tourist destinations in the world. Tourists always need means of transportation to explore the place. Luxury Car rental Dubai services are available all year. However, renting a private car can sometimes be expensive.

Also, public transport systems in the UAE are some of the best in the world as well. You get many options to get where you need. Shared public transport will always be much cheaper than renting your own chauffeur service or a car. However, public transport will not be as convenient as a private one. Below, you’ll find some helpful information about UAE’s public transport for tourists:

How Public Transport Is Operated in the UAE?

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah have very well-developed public transport systems. The government controls most public transport systems in the UAE as well. In Dubai, you will find very interconnected public transport. The metro, buses, tram, and water buses are all linked with singular payment systems. Get yourself a Nol card and be on your way.

Smaller Emirati states including Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah, and Ras Al Khaimah will not present such established public transport systems. Taxis are found in abundance all around. Bus travel is also available throughout the UAE. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ajman also have transport cards available. These will only work for buses, however.

Traveling By Train in the UAE

The UAE lacks a conventional rail transport network. In Dubai, you have the metro option that was opened up back in 2009. Etihad Rail is working to provide freight and passenger travel options. Currently, only freight services are on offer.

Dubai Metro is the only realistic train service available currently. Also, it is a very advanced and sophisticated system. The Dubai Metro is also one of the largest metro systems in the world. There is a red and a green line while a third one is being worked on. It works like clockwork giving people the option to travel between 5 am and midnight on weekdays. Sunday starts at 8 am to midnight and on Fridays, you will only be able to travel an hour past midnight as well. It is one of the cheaper forms of travel in Dubai.

Traveling By Bus in the UAE

The UAE has one of the best bus networks in the world. Buses are very safe, clean, and efficient. Skillful drivers make your journey very comfortable as well. All buses and bus stations are air-conditioned. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, there are battery-operated electric buses. These are the cheapest form of public transport in the country.

Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Ajman require bus payments to be made through dedicated cards. The Hafilat Smart Card in Abu Dhabi, the Nol Card in Dubai, the Sayer Card in Sharjah, and the Masaar Card in Ajman are used for payments. Buses are all disability-friendly and have audio-visual aids for tourists as well. Tourists can travel between states on buses as well.

In smaller states including Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, inter-state public buses are rare. However, they are very well organized. Tourists traveling from Dubai or Abu Dhabi can get dropped off at convenient spots. Additionally, hotels in every state, run coaches that can connect with the bus network. Starting from as little as AED 2 for local travel, rates will go up to an affordable AED 8. For inter-emirate travel, the fare will be around AED 25. Even that is nothing compared to the more expensive parts of the world.

Traveling By Taxi in the UAE

Taxis are naturally the most convenient, comfortable, and preferred means of transport in the UAE. A good chauffeur service in Dubai will get you anywhere you need. However, taxis and chauffeur services will cost higher. Like the good old way, you can hail a taxi on the street. Look for the taxi sign. If it is lit, a taxi is available. Online and over-the-phone booked taxis are available as well.

Booking in Dubai is available through the RTA App. Taxi fares will be different in all Emirati states. Dubai will be the most expensive taxi travel. It’s good that Dubai also has the best public transport alternatives. Also, taxis are usually very good cars. Most drivers and chauffeurs will speak Arabic and English. Many also speak Hindi and Urdu. Card payments will be accepted and a tip is your own regard.

Note: Uber and Careem are also available modes of taxi travel in the UAE. These app-based taxi services are limited though. Dubai and Abu Dhabi have Uber and Careem both. However, Sharjah and Ajman only get Careem. Avoid peak hours and you will be just fine with these.

Other Public Transport Options in the UAE

There are many different options to travel in the UAE in addition to those talked about above. With the Dubai RTA, you get many different alternatives. Some are:

Dubai Ferry – Operating between 11 am and 7 pm every day, the Dubai Ferry connects people to Sharjah as well. There are many other stops available.

Water Taxi – Spanning across 44 stations along the waterways in the UAE, water taxis are available between 10 am and 5pn. Each taxi seats 10 passengers.

Abra and Dhow – Abra is a smaller traditional boat whereas the dhow is a bigger traditional boat. Both get you to many places. Dedicated dhow cruise trips for tourists are also available.

Dubai Tram – Operating between Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah/Al Sufouh, the Dubai Tram has 11 stations. It covers a distance of 14.5 kilometers and the next one is available every 10 minutes. Two metro stations the JLT and DAMAC also overlap with the tram giving passengers options to connect. It is very cheap as well starting from AED 3 only.

Bicycles – If you are in the mood for a city adventure, bicycles for rent are available through private companies in Dubai. Bicycle parking is available at most Dubai Metro stations as well.

Jeep Wrangler Modifications Before Off-roading

Are you ready to unleash the true potential of your Jeep Wrangler? Whether you’re a seasoned off-roader seeking new challenges or a newcomer eager to explore the great outdoors, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of taking your Jeep off the beaten path. But before you hit the trails, it’s crucial to equip your Jeep with the right modifications to ensure a safe and successful off-roading experience.

In this article, we’ll delve into the world of Jeep Wrangler modifications and discuss essential upgrades that will transform your vehicle into an off-roading powerhouse. Plus, we’ll explore the often-overlooked factor of gas tank size and its importance for extended off-road adventures.

Jeep Wrangler Modifications

From suspension enhancements to lighting upgrades and everything in between, get ready to equip your Jeep with the tools it needs to handle any obstacle that comes your way. Additionally, we’ll delve into an often-overlooked aspect of off-roading: the importance of gas tank size for extended adventures. So, fasten your seatbelt, adjust your mirrors, and let’s embark on an off-roading journey that will leave you breathless.

Upgrading Suspension and Lift Kits

Picture this: you’re conquering rocky terrain, traversing through deep mud, and maneuvering over challenging obstacles. To handle such demanding off-road conditions, your Jeep Wrangler needs a suspension system that can take a beating.

Upgrading your suspension and installing a lift kit not only enhances ground clearance but also allows for larger tires, improved articulation, and increased approach and departure angles. The right suspension setup can transform your Jeep into an unstoppable force, giving you the confidence to tackle even the toughest trails.

Jeep roof ladders and aftermarket bumpers are also great modifications that can improve your Jeep’s off-roading capabilities. Roof ladders provide easy access to the roof and can be used as a platform for additional gear or equipment. You can research jeep ladders linked here, or opt for a custom-built one to suit your specific needs. Aftermarket bumpers, on the other hand, offer better protection and clearance while also providing additional mounting points for winches or off-road lights.

Gas Tank Considerations for Extended Off-Roading

Now that we’ve covered the essential modifications, let’s discuss an often-overlooked factor that can make or break your extended off-road adventures: gas tank size. Off-roading is all about exploring the great outdoors and venturing far from civilization. But what happens when you’re miles away from the nearest gas station?

A larger gas tank size becomes your best friend. It allows you to embark on longer journeys without the constant worry of running out of fuel. OffroadLounge.com provides a comprehensive guide on Jeep Wrangler gas tank sizes and their implications for extended off-road adventures.  Make sure to check it out to determine the ideal gas tank size for your off-roading needs.

Equipping Reliable Off-Road Tires

When it comes to off-roading, your tires are the key to success. All-terrain or mud-terrain tires are specifically designed to provide the traction and grip you need on rough and unpredictable terrain.

These tires feature aggressive tread patterns that bite into the ground, allowing you to power through mud, crawl over rocks, and conquer loose surfaces with ease. Investing in high-quality off-road tires will significantly improve your Jeep’s performance and ensure a smoother and more enjoyable off-roading experience.

Enhancing Off-Road Lighting

As the sun sets and darkness envelops the trail, the importance of proper lighting becomes apparent. Off-roading at night or in low-light conditions requires enhanced visibility to spot obstacles, hazards, and potential wildlife encounters.

Equipping your Jeep with additional off-road lighting, such as LED light bars, spotlights, or fog lights, can make a world of difference. These powerful light sources illuminate the path ahead, allowing you to navigate with confidence and react swiftly to any challenges that lie in your way.

Protecting Your Jeep with Skid Plates and Armor

Off-roading is not for the faint of heart. Your Jeep will face a barrage of rocks, tree stumps, and other debris that can wreak havoc on its undercarriage. Installing skid plates and armor is like giving your Jeep a suit of armor, protecting vital components such as the engine, fuel tank, and transfer case.

With these additions, you can tackle challenging obstacles without fear of causing extensive damage. Skid plates and armor not only provide peace of mind but also save you from costly repairs and ensure your Jeep Wrangler’s longevity.

FAQs

What are the benefits of modifying my Jeep Wrangler for off-roading?

Modifying your Jeep Wrangler for off-roading enhances its capabilities to tackle challenging terrains and obstacles. Upgrades like suspension lifts, off-road tires, and additional lighting improve ground clearance, traction, and visibility, allowing you to navigate with confidence and conquer various off-road conditions.

How do I choose the right off-road tires for my Jeep Wrangler?

Choosing the right off-road tires depends on the type of off-roading you plan to do. All-terrain tires are versatile and suitable for a wide range of off-road conditions. Mud-terrain tires offer exceptional traction in muddy and rocky terrains. Consider factors like tread pattern, durability, and size to match your specific off-roading needs.

Can I install a lift kit on my Jeep Wrangler myself, or should I seek professional help?

While it is possible to install a lift kit on your Jeep Wrangler yourself, it is recommended to seek professional help, especially if you lack experience or the necessary tools. Proper installation is crucial to ensure the lift kit’s functionality, safety, and alignment of your vehicle.

Rookie Foster Sweeps to Both Poles on Streets of Detroit

DETROIT (Friday, June 2, 2023) – Rookie Louis Foster swept qualifying for both races of the INDY NXT by Firestone Detroit Grand Prix on Friday, taking both poles for the doubleheader in very different fashion.

2022 USF Pro 2000 champion Foster, from Great Britain, earned his first second and third career poles in INDYCAR’s developmental series. He also was the quickest qualifier in his first INDY NXT by Firestone start, the season opener in March at St. Petersburg, Florida.

The 19-car INDY NXT by Firestone field competed for both poles in a split qualifying session that featured two eight-minute rounds separated by a short intermission. The first round set the grid for Race 1 at noon Saturday, with the second round establishing the starting lineup for Race 2 at 12:45 p.m. Sunday (both races live, Peacock and INDYCAR Radio Network).

Foster took the pole for Race 1 with a smooth, composed lap of 1 minute, 6.9468 seconds in the No. 26 Copart/USF Pro Championship car fielded by Andretti Autosport.

“The first one was a good session,” Foster said. “It was pretty easygoing. Just hit our marks. For the last two years, I’ve turned up to brand-new circuits and had to qualify quickly. So, I knew this would suit me this weekend.”

But the tricky nature of the new nine-turn, 1.7-mile circuit on the streets of downtown Detroit caught Foster with about three minutes left in the second session. He struck the concrete barrier in Turn 9 with the left rear wheel of his car, bending the suspension. Still, Foster stayed on track and powered through to take the pole with the quickest lap of the day – damaged car and all – at 1:06.8374.

“I tapped the wall on the exit of the last corner with like four laps to go,” Foster said. “So, I was like sideways down the straight with the steering. Not a great thing to happen in qualifying, but we made it work. The team did an amazing job.”

Hunter McElrea qualified second for Race 1 at 1:07.5926 in the No. 27 Smart Motors car fielded by Andretti Autosport. Rookie Reece Gold recovered from numerous trips into the runoff early in the session to qualify a season-best third at 1:07.9741 in the No. 10 HMD Motorsports with DCR car.

Rookie Nolan Siegel, fastest in practice Friday afternoon, qualified fourth for Race 1 at 1:08.0795 in the No. 39 HMD Motorsports with DCR car. Championship leader Christian Rasmussen rounded out the top five at 1:08.0915 in the No. 6 HMD Motorsports with DCR machine.

In qualifying for Race 2, Rasmussen jumped to No. 2 on the starting grid at 1:07.0280, followed by Siegel at 1:07.0557. Gold continued his impressive weekend by qualifying fourth at 1:07.1225, and McElrea rounded out the top five at 1:07.3539.

Ernie Francis Jr. produced an impressive performance in the second qualifying session after driving to the 14th spot in the first session. He ended up a career-best sixth at 1:07.5676 in the No. 99 HMD Motorsports with Force Indy car, still recovering from surgery for a broken wrist suffered in late April in the race at Barber Motorsports Park. That injury forced him to miss round three of the championship on May 13 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

O’Ward Fastest in Practice as Drivers Learn New Detroit Circuit

DETROIT (Friday, June 2, 2023) – Pato O’Ward led an eventful opening practice Friday for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, as drivers spent as much time learning the new downtown street circuit as they did paying attention to the time sheets.

O’Ward was fastest at 1 minute, 3.0773 seconds in the No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet on the nine-turn, 1.7-mile circuit in downtown Detroit. The event moved back to downtown Detroit this year for the first time since 1991, as it took place on Belle Isle on the Detroit River since 1992.

“It’s definitely a unique track,” O’Ward said. “I think it has a lot of characteristics from all the other street courses that we go to in terms of pavements, certain type of corners. Yeah, we rolled off strong.”

Six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Scott Dixon was second at 1:03.1759 in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Kyle Kirkwood, winner of the Long Beach street race in April, was third at 1:03.5140 in the No. 27 AutoNation Honda fielded by Andretti Autosport.

Championship leader and 2021 series champion Alex Palou was fourth at 1:03.6388 in the No. 10 Ridgeline Lubricants Honda, putting two Chip Ganassi Racing cars in the top four.

“It was a big challenge,” Palou said of the bumpy circuit. “We went through the runoff quite a few times. Hopefully we don’t do that anymore during the weekend. Honestly, it felt pretty good. We had some speed in there. There’s a big difference between the blacks (Firestone primary tires) and the alternates. It should be a fun weekend.”

Arrow McLaren drivers took the next two spots, as the team claimed three of the top six positions on the time sheet. Felix Rosenqvist was fifth at 1:03.6929 in the No. 6 onsemi Arrow McLaren Chevrolet, followed by Alexander Rossi in sixth at 1:03.7277 in the No. 7 NTT DATA Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.

Newly crowned Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge winner Josef Newgarden ended up 15th at 1:04.4376 in the No. 2 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet.

There were six red flags in the session as drivers learned the tricky new circuit and found the limits of grip on the combination of asphalt and concrete. Many drivers ended up in runoff areas, especially in Turn 3 at the end of the longest straightaway, or in full opposite lock sliding through corners. There was no significant contact in any of the incidents.

No drivers were immune from the risks of finding the limit. Even the quickest driver of the session – O’Ward – triggered the sixth and final red when he entered the runoff area in Turn 8 near the end of the session.

“It’s a challenging track; I can tell you that,” O’Ward said.

Up next is practice at 9:05 a.m. ET Saturday, followed by NTT P1 Award qualifying at 1:20 p.m. (both sessions live on Peacock, INDYCAR Radio Network). Live coverage of the 100-lap race starts at 3 p.m. Sunday on NBC, Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network.

CONCORD, N.C. - MAY 29: Chase Elliott, driver of the #9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet, wrecks Denny Hamlin, driver of the #11 SportClips Toyota, during the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 29, 2023, in Concord, North Carolina. Photo: John Knittel/SpeedwayMedia.com

MADISON, Ill. — NASCAR, how does this make sense?

If you slept under a rock, this week, NASCAR parked Chase Elliott, after he intentionally wrecked Denny Hamlin, Monday, at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It was nakedly blatant and the SMT data of the wreck reinforced that.

NASCAR handled it, correctly. After it suspended Bubba Wallace, last season, for doing the same thing to Kyle Larson at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it couldn’t not give Elliott the same penalty, without inciting a mutiny in the garage.

But then NASCAR shot itself in the foot by giving him a waiver.

So let me get this straight: Elliott’s actions in the Coca-Cola 600 (correctly) warranted a one race suspension, but he’s still playoff-eligible?

How?!

The only real penalty, effectively, is he gets one less race to make the playoffs.

And he’s not the first.

Johnny Sauter got a waiver, after NASCAR parked him for wrecking Austin Hill under caution at Iowa Speedway in 2019. And while not a wreck, NASCAR suspended Josh Williams for parking his car on track at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March.

Both received waivers.

OK, I get that there’s more to a race team than the driver. The pit crew, the crew chief and spotter didn’t put Hamlin in the wall. Furthermore, it’s probably not good for sponsorship, if you penalize the whole team for the actions of one individual.

And if NASCAR approved all waiver requests, I’d respect that point more.

With that said, however, the league’s denied waiver requests.

In fact, at press time, the league’s denied just three request for a playoff waiver.

Spencer Gallagher’s denial makes sense, but Kaz Grala and Grant Enfinger’s don’t. They were circumstances beyond their control.

Yet according to the heads in Daytona, substance abuse and missing a race for lack of sponsorship are stronger grounds for a waiver denial than intentionally wrecking another driver.

So I ask again, NASCAR, how does this make sense?

For as much flak as NASCAR (rightfully) gets for inconsistent officiating, granting playoff waivers to drivers suspended for intentionally wrecking others is one precedent NASCAR should break.

And if this isn’t grounds for a waiver denial, then waivers are a joke.

But at the end of the day, as the late Ed Coombs told me, “It’s their show to **** up.”

That’s my view, for what it’s worth.

‘Fast X’ Actor Da Silva To Ride in Fastest Seat in Sports in Detroit

INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, June 2, 2023) – Actor Luis Da Silva Jr., one of the stars of the summer blockbuster film “Fast X,” will ride in the Fastest Seat in Sports at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on Sunday, June 4, leading the full field of drivers to the green flag of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES street circuit race.

Da Silva plays Diogo in “Fast X,” the 10th main installment in the wildly popular “The Fast and The Furious” series by Universal Pictures.

An elite high school basketball player in his native Elizabeth, New Jersey, Da Silva’s life changed forever at age 18 when he was spotted for his basketball talent when walking into an open audition for a Nike basketball commercial. He became the focal point of the now iconic “Nike Freestyle” campaign, leading to appearing on the cover of Time magazine and the front page of The Wall Street Journal.

Da Silva then set his sights on Hollywood. His natural acting talent drew almost immediate work, as he starred alongside Academy Award winner Jodie Foster and Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard in “The Brave One” in 2007.

That performance led to multiple projects over the next few years before landing the breakout role in 2011 of Diogo in “Fast Five,” the fifth installment of “The Fast and the Furious” series. He also performed alongside Johnny Depp in “21 Jump Street” in 2012.

Since then, Da Silva has appeared in films with many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Kate Winslet, Woody Harrelson, Ruby Rose, Casey Affleck, Aaron Paul and John Travolta.

INDYCAR’s Fastest Seat in Sports is a high-speed, high-octane, super-charged thrill ride in a custom INDYCAR SERIES car with a special back passenger seat. At almost every race on the schedule, the car advances the field of drivers to the start/finish line to signify the beginning of the race, with a special passenger in the guest seat. Previous participants in the Fastest Seat in Sports include Lady Gaga, NBA champions Steph Curry and Kawhi Leonard, Olympic gold medalists Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Lilly King, actors Simu Liu and Channing Tatum, and many others.

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES represents the ultimate challenge in racing, with drivers competing at speeds of 200+ mph across a demanding set of ovals and road and street courses.
