WEC at Portugal: Cadillac Racing impresses again

No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R finishes fourth in Hypercar debut in Europe

PORTIMÃO, Portugal (April 16, 2023) — Following its impressive FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar debut last month in the U.S., Cadillac Racing equally impressed in its first European race outing.

The hybrid No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R co-driven by Richard Westbrook, Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn advanced four spots from its qualifying position to finish fourth Sunday in the 6 Hours of Portimão. The trio also placed fourth in the WEC season opener last month in the eight-hour race at Sebring International Raceway.

The Cadillac Racing finish in the 11-car Hypercar class was among multiple positives on a warm spring day at the 2.891-mile, 15-turn Autodromo Do Algarve Circuit:

  • The highest-placing single-car Hypercar team.
  • The only Hypercar manufacturer that did not experience a mechanical issue.
  • Another solid championship points day; the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R is tied for third in the class.
  • Consistent race pace that equaled the podium finishers.
  • The team doubled its race learning and data book from the Sebring race.

The No. 8 Toyota won the race interrupted by a sole 13-minute safety car period.

The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R was forced into an off-sequence strategy early in the race as Westbrook flat-spotted the front tires when held up by another Hypercar entering pit lane. Double stinting the tires was planned, and the veteran sports car driver withstood the severe vibration for 25 minutes before returning to pit lane for a fresh set of Michelin tires and resuming his quest.

Bamber climbed in the prototype with 3 hours, 38 minutes left and began a charge that saw the New Zealander climb to third in the order with consistent laps times, including a best of 1 minute, 33.077 seconds. On the fifth of six pit stops, Lynn took over the seat with 1 hour, 43 minutes left and continued to click off consistent lap times and close on the third-place Porsche in the waning minutes.

The 6 Hours of Portimão marked the third race for the No. 2 drivers in the new Cadillac V-Series.R powered by a 5.5-liter V-8 normally aspirated engine developed by GM’s Performance and Racing propulsion team paired with the spec energy recovery system. They opened with a fourth-place finish in the Rolex 24 At Daytona in January followed by the strong showing at Sebring International Raceway.

It is a quick turnaround as the Six Hours of Spa will be contested April 29. As announced last month, a second Cadillac V-Series.R is entered for the race at the Belgian racecourse with Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande driving the No. 3 Cadillac V-Series.R.

No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R

Earl Bamber: “The car was really good. Obviously for us, the first time on a European circuit. We still have a lot to learn to be honest, but I think we can keep improving. We’ve made a good step forward and I think we’ve made a step closer toward the Toyotas. On pure pace and longevity, I’m really forward to Spa where we’ll keep improving and look forward to Le Mans.”

Richard Westbrook: “I was able to move up a bit and stayed in the train and then, as expected, the car really came alive toward the end of the stint. Just as we were making that first pit stop, I came in right underneath the Peugeot and I felt like he really over-slowed the car. I was right up his gearbox, lost a bit of front downforce and had a bad lockup. I had no idea if it was a flat spot or not, so they filled up and I went out and it was bad. I was really hanging on. We had to abort that second stint after halfway through, so we had to go off-strategy. We have some pace in the car.”

Alex Lynn: “From my side, it was a really solid day for us in the No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R. We got unlucky with the safety car that took a podium away from us, but the car was really quick and we’re just learning more and more. Big thanks to my teammates Richard and Earl for some super star driving, and I’m looking forward to the next one.”

Sound Bites:

“We just needed a little bit more. I felt like we could turn the center better, but everyone else had a better drive off. My No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang had really good speed all day. Man, it’s just frustrating to get third here. You want that grandfather clock so bad. It’s tough. I think we have a good package to bring back here later this year though. We just need to keep working on it. I feel like we’re starting to hit our stride, and I’m excited for the next few races.” – Cole Custer, driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

“That’s just racing at Martinsville. We were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hate it for the No. 98 Monster Energy team. We had a good run going, and it just went away like that. Hopefully, we can put this bad luck behind us and get back on track at Talladega.” – Riley Herbst, driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

Next Up:

The next event on the NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule is the Ag-Pro 300 on Saturday, April 22 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The race begins at 4 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by FS1 and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Three Mercedes-AMG GT3 Teams Secure Top-Five Finishes in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Sprint Race at the Grand Prix of Long Beach

LONG BEACH, California – A trio of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams withstood a weighty challenge, an opening-lap traffic jam and several contact incidents to secure a string of top-five finishes Saturday in a hard-fought IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 100-minute sprint race at the Grand Prix of Long Beach. Mike Skeen and Mikael Grenier co-drove the No. 32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 to a season-best fourth-place finish in the GT Daytona (GTD) class finish while the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 and the No. 79 WeatherTech Racing/Proton Competition Mercedes-AMG GT3 finished fifth in the GTD and GTD Pro classes, respectively.

Winward Racing co-drivers Russell Ward and Philip Ellis joined the Korthoff team and drivers in scoring a season-best finish on the unforgiving 1.968-mile road course on the streets of Long Beach.

Both GTD top-five finishers and the WeatherTech Mercedes-AMG GT3 sustained first-lap contact damage but the No 79 had a further setback in the Long Beach circuit’s notorious hairpin turn.

A contact incident just in front of starting driver Daniel Juncadella forced him to stop on track for a costly 10 seconds. The time lost and minimal in-race yellow flag cautions took away any chance Juncadella and his teammate Jules Gounon had at reconnecting with the GTD Pro leaders. Gounon took the checkered flag in the fifth and final GTD Pro finishing position.

Korthoff and Winward survived the first-lap contact incidents to put together a pair of clean runs to the finish. Although pre-race rules adjustments prevented either team from challenging the GTD top-three finishers, both Korthoff and Winward left Long Beach with nothing more than minor bodywork and cosmetic damage on their Mercedes-AMG GT3s.

Next up for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing teams in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is a return to California next month for Round 4 of the season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Mike Skeen, Driver – No. 32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3: “I feel pretty good about it. It is exciting coming here and I like this track. It was a bit tough with the Balance of Performance (BoP) rules changes we had this weekend, but you get that ebb and flow all of the time. We did what we could with the capability we had this week. We started fourth and finished fourth. That looks kind of boring on paper, but we had a good battle at the beginning, and Mikael did a heck of a job at the end holding off Ellis. It’s nice to be the highest finishing Mercedes-AMG GT3, get some points and get the momentum headed in the right direction.”

Mikael Grenier, Driver – No. 32 Team Korthoff Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3: “Long Beach is quite unique because you can’t make any mistakes here or you will be in the tire barriers. Mike did a really good job at the start, had a few contact hits he just couldn’t avoid, and it is good to come out of here with the car in one piece. All in all, it was quite solid with good points for the championship. At Daytona and Sebring, I think we could have won both races, so it is good to finally finish a race without any mistakes. It is good for momentum. The team did an amazing pit stop. It was quite a short fuel and they had to do the tire changes quickly. Everything was on point.”

Philip Ellis, Driver – No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3: “I think we reached our goals to at least get some points finally this season after two unlucky races where we should have been at the very front. It was definitely a tricky weekend as well, but Russell did a really good job. We are lucky the car stayed more or less intact after the early contact at the start. It probably hurt us a bit on performance as well, but nothing else happened and the car stayed together. That was good, the car was good, we just couldn’t get to the front, so we did what we had to do and were the best of the rest.”

Daniel Juncadella, Driver – No. 79 WeatherTech Racing/Proton Competition Mercedes-AMG GT3: “I was in a bad spot because I was the first car right after the blockage and I had nowhere to go. I had to reverse a bit and wait for them to clear. This is what happens when you start in the back, but we were a little unfortunate in qualifying. It was kind of a boring race. Not much happened, just two yellows early on and one at the end, but that was our only hope. We needed more yellows in the first half of the race to play our strategy, but it didn’t come. We have to hope IMSA looks at the performance analysis. We had a pretty big hit on the BoP after Sebring, and that comprised qualifying and the whole weekend. I hope we get something back for the next races.”

Jules Gounon, Driver – No. 79 WeatherTech Racing/Proton Competition Mercedes-AMG GT3: “We tried our best to work the strategy but to get a result today was nearly impossible. The WeatherTech Racing/Proton crew did a great pit stop. Dani and I gave it our all on the track, and I think I touched the wall six times pushing flat out. We will see what the next step is and be prepared to bounce back for WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.”

TOYOTA QUOTES

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK, No. 20 Pye Barker Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 1st

How good was this car?

“It was amazing. This car wasn’t very good in practice yesterday – I thought we were like a 10th-to-12th place car. I’ll tell you what – everyone went to work on this 20 team for qualifying and this race today. So huge shoutout to the guys on this 20 team. Thankful for the opportunity from Joe Gibbs Racing and TRD, Coy (Gibbs), wish he was here with us. Thank you to Pye Barker Fire & Safety – they actually carry Pye Barker fire extinguishers here in Martinsville. It was fitting – after we caught on fire, they put it out. This car was as fast as Xfinity 10G today – dominate, that’s all I can say.”

What can you say about the battles with your teammate, Sammy Smith today?

“It was good hard short track racing. We didn’t wreck each other and we put on a show. I’m thankful for Sammy (Smith). Happy to be racing with him. We race each other hard but we race each other clean. Just happy to get this thing to victory lane today. I’m super pumped.”

What are you going to do with that Dash 4 Cash money?

“Guys, what do you say? I think we should get some clocks with that Dash 4 Cash money.”

SAMMY SMITH, No. 18 Pilot Flying J Toyota GR Supra, Joe Gibbs Racing

Finishing Position: 2nd

How do you assess the racing tonight?

“I think it was really good. I tried to race John Hunter (Nemechek) with a lot of respect to try to make sure one of us got the win, but at the end, I think the 00 (Cole Custer) was kind of beating my bumper off, so I thought it was fair to move him back. It was good tonight for us. Just thank you to Pilot Flying J, Toyota, TMC, Allstate Peterbuilt Group, Golden Harvest – everybody that helps. We will get it done next week.”

CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: Hard-Fought, Runner-Up Finish

Garcia, Taylor battle to the front to second-place class finish in California street fight

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 15, 2023) – Some second-place finishes are better than others. That was the story for Corvette Racing on Saturday as Antonio Garcia, Jordan Taylor and the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C8.R earned a runner-up GT Daytona (GTD) PRO result in the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.

On a day where nothing came easy and passing was limited, the Corvette team – drivers, crew and engineers – made the most of its opportunities to claw forward two spots from the start and earn valuable points in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GTD PRO standings.

Garcia started the race in fourth after Friday’s qualifying but ran the first 10 minutes of Saturday’s 100-minute sprint under full-course yellow due to a crash involving two GTP cars. Once the race went back green, he was able to stay within reach of the four lead GTD cars – three PRO entries and one regular GTD competitor – as the pack began to run up on lap traffic.

The first pit stops began near the 35-minute mark, and the No. 3 C8.R team brought in Garcia to swap over to Taylor after 40 minutes and running third in class. A quick service of a full fuel load and four fresh Michelin tires, plus a stellar out-lap by Taylor meant the Corvette didn’t just hold on to third place, it gained more than three seconds on Klaus Bachler in the second-place Porsche.

After some hard, side-to-side racing, Taylor stayed within one second of the No. 9 and made a strong, decisive move into Turn Six with a huge dive to the inside of the Porsche – straight out of his recent experience in the NASCAR Cup Series – with 40 minutes left to take the second-place spot.

GTD lap traffic and faster GTP cars going by meant that Taylor had to spend the rest of the race with Bachler right on the rear bumper of the Corvette. Taylor stayed tough and held the position as the race ended during another full-course caution.

Corvette Racing’s next event in the IMSA championship is May 12-14 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

ANTONIO GARCIA, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – FINISHED SECOND IN GTD PRO: “Starting where we started, it was really difficult to do something super-crazy to gain positions. On pure speed, we had no real advantage to make a move. The only way was to do it by strategy as we did and then play the traffic like Jordan did to gain those spots. I think we had a fourth-place car and we finished second, so we can be happy for once at Long Beach! We didn’t have the pace to win or really fight for it like we have had in the past. It sounds strange, but I’m happy with second.”

JORDAN TAYLOR, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C8.R – FINISHED SECOND IN GTD PRO: “We had a good Corvette – maybe a fourth-place car on pace. Antonio did a good job from fourth in his stint, which is where we were speed-wise. The guys made a good call in the pits to try and jump some guys. We came out even with the Porsche, and they were pretty aggressive on their out-lap and pushed me wide at the fountain. Once he pushed me once, I knew it was fair to push him back. Once I got close enough, he defended pretty aggressively and I wasn’t going to let up. I gave him a little tap from the NASCAR world and was able to get by. It was difficult to defend the rest of the race. I’m glad traffic worked out relatively well to keep him behind us, so a great day for us points-wise. We had a fourth-place car and to come away with second and beating two guys who probably should have been on the podium, we can be proud of that. At the end of the year when we look back on the championship, hopefully this is one we count for some good points.”

Heartbreaking Ending at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach for the No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 Team

(Long Beach, Calif.) April 15, 2023 — The No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 gave it everything they had as Ricky Taylor went for the win with under two minutes remaining in the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. Saturday’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach marked the first sprint race of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season for the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport (WTRAndretti) team. Full season co-driver, Filipe Albuquerque qualified the No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 on pole position to lead the field to the green flag and had a very smooth first stint. As Albuquerque brought the blue and black machine from the lead for the sole pit stop and driver change of the day, a troublesome pit stop made a challenge for the reminder of the race.

Ricky Taylor hustled around the tight corners of the Long Beach streets and worked his way up into second position during the last 15 minutes of the race. As the checkered flag was nearing, Taylor went for the lead on the front stretch into Turn 1, before unfortunately making contact with the wall – ending the team’s day with just under two minutes before the clock expired.

“It’s not the ending that we wanted,” said Wayne Taylor. “We really had a good car, and both the drivers did a great job. We had things going on that snowballed throughout the race, starting with a radio problem, then it went to something else. We had problems with the driver change that caused us to lose time in the pits. Then we had another situation where the rev limiter came on, so we lost seven seconds. We lost 13 in the pits and then we lost another seven, then we were 27 seconds behind. Ricky would then make his way all the way up there and then something else would happen. He got by everybody, and I began to think that we could definitely get a second place, then he closed on the first car, and I thought ‘We’re going to win this race.’, then we just went into the wall. However, when you have car as good and fast as this and use it to the maximum, you can’t really blame anybody for that. This is the Acura Grand Prix and Ricky wanted to win. We just have to get ready and go for the next one.”

“I’m very sorry for Acura, HPD and the WTRAndretti team,” said Ricky Taylor. “We had a lot to learn from the past five years with the Acura ARX-05. This was always our track where we had the most performance deficit to the field and it just says so much about Acura, HPD, Oreca and Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport to turn our weakest track into our strongest track. At the end of the day when you have the strongest car you want to repay those people and win the race. Unfortunately, we got behind with a little issue mid race and we had such a strong car while fighting back. It came down so close in the end, if we had more time maybe I would have been more patient, but we just wanted to win this for Acura. Everyone at Acura, HPD and Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport deserved to win this today and it’s just disappointing, but I’m just so proud to drive an Acura and be part of this team.”

“What a crazy day today,” said Filipe Albuquerque. “There is so much to say. You could write a drama book about this race today. We started well today, although it was chaotic for the No. 60 and I could see a sideways car that was about to take me out in Turn 1. Okay— we avoid that, then the car is fine, and we pull a gap, but lost everything just before pitting in on traffic. We had some setbacks in the pit stop and, on the track, but Ricky recovered that as he was flying on the track and chasing everybody – overtaking everybody at the hardest track of the year. He made us believe that the win was still possible out of a crazy race. For him, it was all or nothing and things happen when we push hard for the win. He locked up and crashed, but I can believe him because when you’re pushing for the win that happens.”

The WTRAndretti and the No. 10 Konica Minolta Acura ARX-06 team will return to California in under one month’s time for the Motul Course de Monterey Powered by Hyundai N on May 14, 2023 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

CHEVROLET INDYCAR AT LONG BEACH: TEAM CHEVY QUALIFYING RECAP

2023 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach
Streets of Long Beach
Long Beach, California
Team Chevy Qualifying Recap
April 14, 2023

PATO O’WARD LEADS CHEVROLET IN QUALIFYING FOR THE GRAND PRIX OF LONG BEACH

  • Pato O’Ward led the Chevrolet contingent in qualifying for the Grand Prix of Long Beach behind the wheel of the No, 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet
  • O’Ward sixth quickest time in the Firestone Fast Six and will roll off on the outside of the third row for the 85-lap, 167.28-mile race on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit on the Streets of Long Beach.

Team Chevy drivers starting in top-15
8th No. 2 Josef Newgarden
9th No. 3 Scott McLaughlin
10th No. 6 Felix Rosenqvist
11th No. 7 Alexander Rossi
13th No. 12 Will Power

The 85-lap, 167.28-mile race Sunday, April 16 will take the green flag at 12:45 p.m.PT/3:45 p.m. ET live on NBC.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:

PATO O’WARD, NO. 5 ARROW MCLAREN CHEVROLET:

“We sold ourselves short on that first attempt in Q2, which made us put on a second set of tires to end the session which meant we wouldn’t have a fresh set for Q3. That put us at a disadvantage with some of the other guys, especially Kyle Kirkwood. In Q3, I was on a good lap, not as good as what Kirkwood threw down. I knew I would have to bring out a mega lap on used tires in order to get Kirkwood. Obviously being a racing driver, I went for it and lost a little bit of time in Turn 9 being a little greedy, but we’re starting sixth tomorrow. We’ll give ourselves a good race car and we’ll see what we can pull off tomorrow.”

FELIX ROSENQVIST, NO. 6 ARROW MCLAREN CHEVROLET:

“I think we; I mean me personally, I was way quicker on a two-lapper than a one-lapper. I mean we tried tp get it done. We put on new tires like everyone else but I think, obviously we had the best track for the session. The track is getting better and better, so it can be both a benefit and a disadvantage. I don’t know. I didn’t get the tires up to temp and it was really slippery. I gave it everything, but I was three-tenths off what I did on old tires. I wasn’t improving. I think we’ve been strong all weekend anyways. Ran it up to top-10. Not fantastic but also not terrible. Let’s see what we can do from there.”

“I think it’s fun. You really truly see the scale of the drivers when you’re put in that situation. You have one go and there’s no ifs or buts, there are, but it doesn’t matter now. The one who is the quickest is the quickest. I think that’s pretty cool; it really puts us under pressure. I think it’s more sporty.”

ALEXANDER ROSSI, NO. 7 ARROW MCLAREN CHEVROLET:

”That was disappointing. I think we definitely had the potential to transfer to the Firestone Fast Six, but the timing of the red flag didn’t work out for us. Ultimately, we’re still a couple of changes away from where we want to be, but I think the team is showing good pace. We’re in a decent, acceptable spot for tomorrow, so we’ll try and make the most of it.”

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 2 HITACHI TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET:

“I meant lucky because we went out early in Q1 with the greens and the track just got better. Kind of scraped by there. Obviously, we‘d do it different if we could now. Yeah, it’s just frustrating. I think there’s time in the car, I just can’t extract it. I just can’t put the lap together. Even there, I as up a couple of tenths, and I just can’t reel it off. I guess we’ll start eighth which is okay. I think we’ve got a good piece, it’s just difficult this weekend to put it all together.”

On the search for raw speed versus long-run speed in the race, how tough is that trade off on a street course like Long Beach?

“You really want both, ideally. Sometimes you don’t get to pick. Your car is an eight one way or the other. I don’t know where we’re at on long-run this weekend, but certainly on the short run, it’s just been hard to piece together.”

SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN, NO. 3 SONSIO TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET:

“Unfortunately, man I’m pissed. I’m being honest, this Sonsio Chevy feels really good. It felt really good in practice, it just I never got a lap in there. I just couldn’t get the fronts up, unfortunately. A couple of others behind us couldn’t go in front of us. We’ve got to work a little bit harder to try and figure that out. As a driver, I could do things better as well. Really proud of my Sonsio Chevy team. I think we’ve something for them tomorrow, see where we’re at.”

CALLUM ILOTT, NO. 77 JUNCOS HOLLINGER RACING CHEVROLET:

“Pretty bad day to be honest. Obviously starting from getting stuffed really by not having any knowledge of the track changes and just approaching it the same way I did before. We got better than the aspects of otherwise moving on from that not having any experience as agreed. We went into qualify with the car just wasn’t really the Liferay window managed to scrap a reasonable time out of it but it just just wasn’t ideal. So better shape from day to day the office for everyone. We were lining up quite well off yesterday. together today is a bit of a bummer but it is what it is we have to review the changes made sure on top of it tomorrow. Try and work towards that now.”

AGUSTIN CANAPINO, NO. 78 JUNCOS HOLLINGER RACING CHEVROLET:

“We had a good qualifying for my first time here, not bad-one second off of the leader. I struggled a little bit. We must take on everything with the new tires and make gain with the start of the weekend. Tomorrow, we will go for what we can to take some points.”

SANTINO FERRUCCI, NO. 14 SEXTON PROPERTIES/AJ FOYT RACING CHEVROLET

“Qualifying was pretty good for us only a couple tenths off we’re making into the Fast 12. So very happy with finding all the time we have hopefully we figured out that car we just need a little bit more for the race tomorrow and we’ll go from there.”

BENJAMIN PEDERSEN, NO. 55 SEXTON PROPERTIES/AJ FOYT RACING CHEVROLET

” Just wrapped up qualifying starting. P 23. For tomorrow, my first ever Long Beach race. Very excited. A lot can happen tomorrow. So just trying to stay clean, have a good strategy and get the most out of the car that we can. But yeah, solid progress all day just trying to get better and better and better. And yeah, looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”

CONOR DALY, NO. 20 BITNILE.COM ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET

“We did not have the speed at all today. There’s no way around it. Not really sure why both Rinus (VeeKay) and I are struggling, but we really need to make an improvement for tomorrow and just make some magic happen. Hopefully, we can take a big step forward at some point coming up soon on the schedule but for now it has been tough.”

RINUS VEEKAY, NO. 21 BITNILE.COM ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET

“That was a really tough qualifying session, really it has been a difficult weekend so far. I expected that we would be better and would be starting higher up tomorrow. We will analyze everything and work to get better for the race, that is

In Funny Car competition, Alexis DeJoria drove her GR Supra to the number two qualifier position for the second consecutive weekend with a time of 3.933, which she was able to consistently run through the next two rounds. Ron Capps qualified fourth with his GR Supra and after nearly two weeks filled with repairs and logistical challenges to get to Las Vegas, J.R. TOYOTA QUOTES

STEVE TORRENCE, Capco Contractors Toyota Top Fuel Dragster, Torrence Racing

TF Qualifying Result: 2nd

How do you feel going into Sunday’s first four-wide of the season as number two qualifier?

“We’ve got confidence going into tomorrow. Today we were trying some things with what we did on Friday. I think that obviously it wasn’t the right direction and we didn’t make it down both runs. Not because we smoked the tires, but we had some issues in the engine. We’ll go back to our normal deal for tomorrow and have a good race car and hopefully carry some momentum. We’ve had a consistent race car all year. We kicked ourselves in Pomona in the second round, but these Capco Boys and this Toyota dragster, we can rebound pretty quick. That’s what we do. We just go out and race our race and try to get to the winner’s circle. Tomorrow is only three round and I feel confident we can with three of those in a row.”

ALEXIS DEJORIA, Bandero Tequila Toyota GR Supra Funny Car, DC Motorsports

FC Qualifying Result: 2nd

How do you feel about your qualifying effort in Vegas as you prep for tomorrow’s race?

“Three out of four runs, made it down the track – 3.933s with a really consistent car. We always do well here in Vegas. It’s fun for us to come out here and we really like coming out here. It is hot out there, but we’ve gotten some really great points over the last three rounds of qualifying. That’s good. Didn’t get any taken away from crossing anything so we’re in the good side right now. Just excited for tomorrow. Hoping to get my first four-wide win for the team.”

J.R. TODD, DHL Toyota GR Supra Funny Car, Kalitta Motorsports

FC Qualifying Result: DNQ

How will you look back at this weekend after the work it took to get this car on track and then not making the field to compete on Sunday?

“Definitely a forgettable weekend. I put the blame on me. I should have done a better job earlier in the weekend and keeping the thing in the groove and not come down to Q4 to get in the show. All in all, I feel bad for my guys., All the work they put in this past week to get this DHL GR Supra back on track. All the guys back at PBRC (Precision Built Race Cars) and everybody at Kalitta Motorsports and back at the fab shop for busting their ass to get us back out here. This is a tough pill to swallow, but I’m sure we’ll stay and run on Monday to get this thing figured out. It’s still early in the season and there’s a lot of racing left.”

What will you tell your team?

“I told these guys, I’m sorry. They deserve better than this and I wanted to get them a win this weekend. That’s the way I can pay them back.”

Hard-fought Long Beach finish for Cadillac Racing

No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R places fifth on street circuit

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 15, 2023) — Starting seventh on the sole street circuit on the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship calendar, the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R group decided an alternate strategy was in order to challenge for its second consecutive victory.

That strategy included a full-course caution that came too late in the 100-minute race. Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims co-drove to a fifth-place finish in the third round of the Grand Touring Prototype season.

Sims brought the hybrid prototype into the pits on Lap 6 and gave way to Derani, who systematically moved up and ran second on Lap 38. Derani returned the No. 31 Cadillac to the pits for service on Lap 52 of the 78-lap total, but the strategy didn’t play out to challenge for the lead as the top four cars made one stop in the race.

“We have to make a lot of decisions and one of them was we were toward the back of the pack anyway and passing is so difficult on the track. So, our best shot was to get the driver change done as quick as possible and then any time before the halfway point — when everybody else started pitting – with a yellow flag all of sudden we’re going to have a quicker pit stop than them because they still have to do their driver change,” team manager Gary Nelson said.

“It was the right move early and with a yellow we’re in contention to win. Without a yellow, we have to try to pass people and passing is a higher risk of not finishing than the risk of pitting early.”

Derani and Sims, who teamed with endurance driver Jack Aitken to win the Twelve Hours of Sebring in March, are one point out of the championship lead. The No. 6 Porsche 963 won under caution – the yellow flag flying with three minutes left.

Sebastien Bourdais and Renger van der Zande, who won the 2022 Long Beach race to lead a Cadillac sweep of the podium, were unable to mount a challenge as a first-lap incident forced retirement of the No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R. It was classified eighth in the GTP class.

Bourdais, who qualified third with a lap of 1 minute, 10.981 seconds on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit, lost grip making a charge for the lead entering Turn 1 and spun, with the nose of the hybrid prototype making contact with the unforgiving concrete barrier.

Cadillac Racing had won the past five races at Long Beach dating to the start of the DPi era. The two Cadillac prototypes will next challenge for the victory May 14 on the undulating 2.238-mile, 11-turn WeatherTech Raceway Laguna road course in a 2-hour, 40-minute race.

In the interim, Bourdais and van der Zande will co-drive the No. 3 Cadillac V-Series.R in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on April 29. They will join the sister No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R in the first WEC outing at the Belgian road course for Cadillac Racing. The race will be a warm-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, and the Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R will also expand the Hypercar field for the centenary race in France.

The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R will start on the fourth row Sunday in the 6 Hours of Portimão in Portugal. Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Richard Westbrook will share driving duties.

No. 01 Cadillac V-Series.R

Sebastien Bourdais: “Weird situation for sure there. We got squeezed against the wall at the start and put marbles on the tires. We’re not exactly sure what happened and why the rears locked up. I feel bad for the team, but we’ll learn what we can from this one and move on to what’s next in the WEC, as well as Laguna.”

Renger van der Zande: “It’s unfortunate because we came into this race expecting to defend our win from last year. We have to see what actually happened. Obviously, it’s been very tough to get tire temps in the car and I think that for sure is causing a lot of issues in the warm-up laps. It’s bad for the points in the championship and I feel sorry for the whole team because this is not what we race for.”

No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac V-Series.R

Pipo Derani: “It was one of those races where you start from the back and then you have to try something different, and we did. It was a nice fight up until a certain point of the race. I could fight, overtook a few cars while we were close to the leading cars. We knew we were on a different strategy, and we were counting on another yellow toward the end of the race, which didn’t happen. Nevertheless, we showed that we were on par in terms of pace during the race and I think we managed to improve throughout the weekend, which is very positive. It’s a long championship and I think considering how the race evolved, it’s a good points day. We wanted we wanted to be further ahead, we showed that our Cadillac V-Series.R has a lot of promise and we have a lot to look forward to.”

Alexander Sims: “Starting seventh doesn’t do you any favors in a sprint race on a street circuit where it’s difficult to pass, so the strategy was to pit early and give Pipo tires that had a few laps on them so they would come in quick. We were looking for the yellow that never came. We showed good pace throughout the race and Pipo did a great job. It’s still learning for us and the other teams about this car, so we’ll take the improvements and data and move on to Laguna Seca.”

Use These 4 Pieces Of Advice And Find An Experienced Lawyer

pexels.com

If you’re facing a legal battle, your best chance of success lies in finding an experienced lawyer who can help guide you through the tactics and strategies necessary to get favorable results. It’s not enough to just find ANY lawyer; it has to be someone with a track record of successful cases, who can provide sound advice on the complexities of modern-day law. To make this daunting process easier for you, we will share 4 pieces of advice that will help you find an experienced and knowledgeable attorney that is best suited to your needs.

Research Local Law Firms

When it comes to choosing a local law firm, it’s important to do your research to find the best fit for your needs. One great way to gain insight into a firm’s reputation is by checking out past reviews and ratings online. This allows you to see firsthand what other clients have experienced when working with that firm and can help you make a more informed decision. Pay attention to comments about responsiveness, communication, and success rates in cases similar to yours. By taking the time to research, you’ll be better equipped to choose a local law firm that can confidently and competently handle your legal needs. Whether you need a Kentucky medical malpractice lawyer or a Houston criminal defense lawyer, taking the time to research local law firms can make all the difference in finding the right fit. It’s also important to look for a firm experienced in the type of law you need, as different laws can have uniquely complex nuances.

Schedule a Consultation

Navigating the legal system on your own can be overwhelming, which is why finding the right lawyer to represent you is crucial. After carefully researching and narrowing down your list of potential lawyers, the next step is to schedule a consultation with them. This face-to-face meeting will provide an opportunity for you to ask any lingering questions and gain a better understanding of their approach to your case. But, it can be nerve-wracking to meet a complete stranger who holds the key to your legal success. Rest assured, a good lawyer will make you feel at ease and explain the legal process in a clear and concise manner. Don’t hesitate to schedule a consultation and take the first step toward achieving the legal results you desire.

Make Sure You Feel Comfortable With the Attorney

Finding the right attorney can be a daunting task, especially if you’re going through a challenging time. It’s not enough to simply hire someone who has experience in the field you need help with. You also need to make sure that you feel comfortable communicating openly with them. After all, you’ll be sharing sensitive information and relying on their guidance to make important decisions. Take the time to meet with different attorneys and ask them questions about their approach and communication style. Ultimately, you want to choose someone who not only has the expertise necessary to handle your legal matter but also someone who you feel comfortable working with.

Check Their References

When it comes to choosing a lawyer to represent you, it’s important to do your research and check their references. While they may seem like the perfect fit on paper, hearing from people who have worked with them before can give you a more accurate picture of how they operate. Contacting references can provide valuable insights into the lawyer’s work ethic, communication style, and overall effectiveness. Plus, it can help you feel confident that you’re making a sound decision in selecting a legal representative. So, if you’re considering a lawyer for your case, take the time to do your due diligence and reach out to their references before making a final decision.

As you embark on the process of finding and selecting a lawyer to serve your specific legal needs, it can be overwhelming and intimidating at times. However, if done correctly the search process can be an enjoyable learning experience that will arm you with confidence when making future decisions regarding your legal matters. Take your time researching local law firms and ask for referrals from trusted sources, compare notes, and try to shorten your list to a few top contenders. Set up a meeting to get advice about the best way to proceed with your case and make sure that all agreements are put in writing so both parties can accurately refer back to them in the future. Before signing any documents, checking references is an essential part of ensuring that you have chosen the most qualified attorney for you. With the right legal professional on your side, you can move forward with a greater sense of security and peace of mind.
