NASCAR to Name 75 Greatest Drivers as Part of 75th Anniversary Celebration

Voting timeline for NASCAR Hall of Fame class shifting to accommodate selection process

Daytona Beach, Fla. (Feb. 15, 2023) – NASCAR today announced it will name the 75 Greatest Drivers in NASCAR history as it celebrates the past, present and future of the sport throughout its 75th “Diamond” Anniversary.

A blue-ribbon committee comprised of former drivers, team owners, industry personnel, NASCAR executives and current and former media members will determine the 75 Greatest Drivers. The unranked list will be unveiled this Spring and culminate with an in-person celebration of the esteemed group during the Goodyear 400 race weekend at Darlington Raceway, May 12-14. Fans can purchase tickets to Darlington Raceway at www.nascar.com/tickets.

“From the incredible races to the unforgettable moments to our larger-than-life stars, there is so much to celebrate during this 75th Anniversary season,” said Jim France, NASCAR Chairman and CEO. “The 50 Greatest Drivers list from our Silver Anniversary is an anchor program to that era, and an honor each of those athletes holds dear. We look forward to adding 25 new drivers as we recognize the 75 Greatest Drivers by recalling the talents and heroics that made each so remarkable.”

As a result of the selection process for the 75 Greatest Drivers, NASCAR also will shift the voting timeline for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The Nomination Committee and Honors Committee will both meet on Wednesday, May 24 to select the nominees. Voting Day for the Class of 2024 will be Wednesday, Aug. 2 at the Charlotte Convention Center.

Jack Wood – No. 51 Eberlestock Silverado Craftsman Trucks Daytona Preview

Jack Wood: Driver, No. 51 Eberlestock Chevrolet

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Overview:
Event: NextEra Energy 250, Race 1 of 23, 100 Laps – 20/20/60; 250 Miles
Location: Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (2.5-mile tri-oval)
Date/Broadcast: Feb. 17, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

Get to Know Jack:

Jack Wood will make his Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) debut behind the wheel of the No. 51 Eberlestock Chevrolet in Friday night’s NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. The Daytona race will be part of a 13-race schedule for Wood this year sharing the No. 51 with KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch and other drivers yet to be announced. The 22-year-old driver finished ninth in his ARCA Menards Series debut at Daytona in 2021 and recorded one top-five and four top-10 finishes across eight starts that season. He was elevated to the Truck Series in May of 2021, where he posted one top-10 and three top-15 finishes while competing in 12 of the last 13 races on the schedule. He returned to full-time Truck Series action in 2022 and finished tied for third in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings.

Friday night will be Wood’s second career start in the Craftsman Truck Series at Daytona. He started 11th but was relegated to a 33rd-place finish after getting caught up in a lap-63 crash in last year’s event. He finished ninth in the 2021 ARCA Menards Series race at the “World Center of Racing.” Wood will be performing double duty this weekend and he makes his first of seven scheduled starts in the ARCA Menards Series event on Saturday driving the No. 6 Chevrolet for Rev Racing.

Eberlestock, an outdoor apparel and tactical gear company, will be the primary sponsor on Wood’s No. 51 Chevrolet Friday night and again in May at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway. From their original roots in the radical design of Olympic class biathlon racing rifles to current projects, Eberlestock has shown the world how much performance should be expected of outdoor gear. They have always been a pioneer and a leader, not a follower. For the hunter, the tactical operator, the shooting sports, or the hardcore adventure outdoorsman, they invite you to explore our current designs. You’ll find something that you can really use — use it hard, and use it well. And they’ll be excited to show you what’s around the next corner. Check them out at www.eberlestock.com.

The California native is part of a new-look KBM that will hit the track for the first time Friday night as a Chevrolet team with two full-time entries of its own and a technical alliance on REV Racing’s first-ever entry in the Truck Series. The manufacturer switch aligned with owner-driver Kyle Busch’s signing with Richard Childress Racing for 2023, one of the premier Chevrolet teams in the Cup Series. Across its 13 seasons with Toyota, KBM collected and amazing seven owner’s championships (2010, 2013 – 2017 and 2019), two driver championships (Erik Jones 2015 and Christopher Bell 2017) and a Truck Series-record 98 wins. At Daytona, Pattie has one Cup Series win, which came in the summer race with Stenhouse Jr. in 2017.

Veteran crew chief Brian Pattie will call the shots for the No. 51 team this year in his first season at KBM after spending the last 14 seasons atop the pit box in the NASCAR Cup Series. In the Cup Series, his drivers produced six wins, nine poles, 57 top-five and 131 top-10 finishes across 528 starts. In 2012, he guided Clint Bowyer to three victories and a runner-up finish in the Cup Series championship standings. In 2017, he guided Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to two wins and a berth in the playoffs. The Florida native has also recorded 11 wins in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and has one win across six starts as a crew chief in the NASCAR Craftsman World Truck Series. Pattie’s drivers have two wins at Daytona, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the July Cup Series race in 2017 and Joe Nemechek in the July NASCAR Xfinity Series event in 2002. Stenhouse Jr. also captured the pole with his Pattie-produced Chevrolet for the 2020 Daytona 500.

KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch will make his first of five starts behind the wheel of the No. 51 Zariz Transport Silverado March 3 in the second race of the season at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway.

Jack Wood, Driver Q&A:
Jack Wood | Daytona International Speedway Preview
How has the transition to KBM been?
“The transition has been good. Having a veteran crew chief like Brian (Pattie), and then having a great mentor like Kyle has been incredible. There is such a wealth of knowledge in this building and I think that is really going to help me in my career and growing as a driver in this sport. Really excited to work with these guys, seems like a great group and we have a lot to prove.”

What is your outlook heading into Friday night?
“I’m still pretty new to speedway racing, so my goal for that race is to survive as long as I can and if we can get ourselves in a good spot with five or 10 laps to go then me and Brian can start working on a strategy to get closer to the front. The first thing for me is to learn and get comfortable with the guys around me, build trust with other drivers and teammates or whatever it may be and then kind of make that push to the checkered flag at the end.”

Do you enjoy speedway racing?
“I do, I don’t – I think there is definitely a skill to it. I think a lot of people says it’s a luck thing but I think there is definitely a skill involved in speedway racing. It’s pretty much a big chess match on the race track at 200 mph. I do enjoy and think the more that I start to do it, I’ll like it more, but right now its just like everything else, it’s all new to me and just learning every time I get to the track.”

Jack Wood Career Highlights:

  • Has produced one top-10 finish across 35 career starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Posted a series-best 10th-place finish in August of 2021 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
  • Has compiled five laps led, one top-five and four top-10 finishes across nine career ARCA Menards Series events.
  • Has totaled one top-five and four top-10 finishes across nine ARCA Menards East Series races.
  • Has totaled two top-five and seven top-10 finishes across 10 career starts in the ARCA Menards West Series.
  • Compiled one top-five and three top-10 finishes across 24 starts in the SRL Spears Southwest Tour from 2017 to 2021.
  • Jack Wood’s No. 51 Chevrolet Silverado RST:

KBM-27: The No. 51 Eberlestock team will unload KBM-27 for Friday’s season-opening race at Daytona. This chassis has made just one prior start, a 35th-place finish with Drew Dollar at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October of 2021. After finishing seventh in the opening stage and 11th in Stage Two, Dollar got caught up in a 12-truck incident that ended his day prematurely.

KBM Notes of Interest:

  • KBM drivers have collected one win, three poles, 188 laps led, four top-five and 11 top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 17.1 across 34 starts at Daytona. Owner-driver Kyle Busch picked up the team’s lone victory at the 2.5-mile tri-oval in dramatic fashion in the 2014 season opener, finishing .016 seconds ahead of Timothy Peters.
  • KBM holds the Craftsman Truck Series records for most career wins (98) and most wins in a single season (14 in 2014). With his victory at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway last year, Corey Heim became the 18th different driver to win a Truck Series event for KBM. In addition to collecting a series-record seven Owner’s Championships, the organization has produced two championship-winning drivers: Erik Jones (2015) and Christopher Bell (2017).
  • With 40 victories, the No. 51 is the winningest number in KBM’s Truck Series fleet.

After spending four years driving full-time in the series, he was able to capture 13 wins, over 60 top-fives, and over 90 top-10 finishes.

Coming off of a breakout season in which Gragson contested for the series championship, 2023 marks a new journey for the rookie. Leading the No. 42 team will be Luke Lambert, an established crew chief that guided Noah to eight wins in 2022.

  • Dawn of a LEGACY: Gragson will make his second DAYTONA 500 start, and first official start for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB in the No. 42 Wendy’s Chevrolet on Sunday. With the preseason non-championship points paying Clash event in the rear view mirror, the driver’s focus is fully on the regular season. Specifically, getting to a good start in Daytona. Noah looks to embark on his rookie campaign carrying a ton of momentum from last year’s dominant season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and is prepared to make the most of his opportunity.

- From the Drivers Seat: You head down to Florida to race in your second DAYTONA 500 this weekend, but first with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. Not only that, but you get to compete against your new team owner, Jimmie Johnson. Have you been able to rely on him for some tips to getting around there at all? Tell us about your thoughts heading into the start of the season.

“I’ve been looking forward to getting down to Daytona for such a long time now, and I’m so glad that we’re finally here. This weekend is going to be special for us; we’re bringing Wendy’s back to the racetrack in a big way on our No. 42 Chevrolet, and to top it all off, Erik and I get to have an extra teammate (and boss, so no pressure) to work with. No doubt, it’s going to be great to have the chance to work with Jimmie and all of the No. 84 team, and we will do everything we can on our part to help him make the race. At these plate tracks, strength comes in numbers, so it is going to be key to work with both of our LEGACY MOTOR CLUB teammates throughout the entire weekend. If we are able to keep our noses clean and find some of that track position towards the end, I feel pretty confident that we can mount a challenge for the win. I’m confident in my team, confident in my ability, and am eager to run in such a prestigious event. I think we have a great opportunity to turn some heads this year, and the amount of preparation that has gone into our team has been very impressive. Looking forward to it for sure!”

With the changes during the off season and the strength we built last season with our LEGACY MOTOR CLUB team, I think this season will be a really good one for us. I always enjoy the superspeedway races and feel like we usually have good cars, just need a little luck on our side to win one of these races. Last year I felt we had several opportunities to win between Daytona and Talladega, just didn’t have enough to pull those wins off. I’m excited to get the season started and have a chance to win on Sunday.”

  • Johnson is back: Johnson will attempt his 20th DAYTONA 500 this weekend as the NASCAR Cup Series officially kicks off the 2023 with the Great American Race. The two-time DAYTONA 500 winner is hoping to add a third championship ring to his trophy case. Johnson’s final full-time race took place on November 8th, 2020 at Phoenix Raceway. After spending two seasons in INDYCAR, this will be the seven-time NASCAR champion’s first race back into the sport where he secured his legacy.

As an unchartered car entry, Johnson will have to qualify for the 500-mile event, but also has a higher stake in the race, as he is a co-owner of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB which fields the No. 42 of Noah Gragson and the No. 43 of Erik Jones. Fans will have to get used to seeing Johnson in another number other than the No. 48 as he will make his first start in the No. 84 Chevrolet Camaro, sponsored with Carvana – who rode the wave with Johnson through his INDYCAR journey.

Johnsons’ first ever DAYTONA 500 was in 2002, where as a rookie he won the pole position and finished 15th. His first DAYTONA 500 championship was in 2006. Johnson etched his name as a DAYTONA 500 champion as a second time in 2013, when he led 17 laps and beat Dale Earnhardt, Jr., for the victory.

Johnson currently sits tied for sixth with Hall of Famer Cale Yarborough on the NASCAR all-time wins list with 83. His next win will tie him with Bobby Allison and Darrel Waltrip, who are tied for fifth on the all-time win list.

  • Jimmie Johnson Sightings: Fans attending this weekend’s races at Daytona International Speedway will have multiple chances to see Jimmie Johnson:

Sirius XM Speedway: Johnson will participate in the fan-facing broadcast of “SiriusXM Speedway” on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 4:30 p.m.
Raceday Q&A: Johnson will attend a fan Q&A on stage in the Fan zone at 12:15pm on Sunday, Feb. 19.

  • Grand Command: As NASCAR reflects on its history to start its 75th Anniversary season, nine legends of the sport – all of whom have won the DAYTONA 500 and the NASCAR Cup Series championship – will come together to serve as grand marshals for the 65th running of The Great American Race. Five NASCAR Hall of Famers and four future Hall of Famers in Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Kevin Harvick, Johnson, Kurt Busch and Joey Logano will collectively give the command to fire engines for the DAYTONA 500 on Sunday, Feb. 19.
  • Off-Season Testing: Johnson was able to complete his ‘driver orientation’ program with NASCAR at Phoenix Raceway earlier this month as he was able to pilot the NextGen Chevrolet Camaro for the first time prior to qualifying at Daytona Wednesday night.
  • Super Bowl Presence – Johnson was able to connect with longtime friend and former team owner Jeff Gordon for a DAYTONA 500 promotion during Super Bowl LVII. ICYMI: Click here.
  • Making the show: Johnson and the No. 84 Carvana Chevy team will have to earn their spot this weekend. There are 42 teams will vie for just 40 eligible spots – and 36 of the 40 eligible spots are already taken by the Charter cars leaving just six spots for the Open teams, to include Johnson. Qualifying kicks off on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 8:00pm ET on FOX.
  • Todd Gordon on the box: Johnson and Gordon will both tackle the NextGen car together this week at Daytona. Gordon has been spending his time on the airways with MRN Radio and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio since stepping back from the NASCAR Cup Series grind and working with driver Joey Logano. Gordon was able to attend the test with Johnson at Phoenix and has been working with the No. 84 team in preparation for NASCAR’s biggest stage.
  • From the Driver’s Seat: “I feel like the last two months have gone fast and slow at the same time. We have been doing SO much at LEGACY MOTOR CLUB from the rebrand, to testing, to sponsor launches to onboarding personnel. I never thought I would be so fortunate to be in this position – as a team owner and being back in NASCAR in this capacity but I wouldn’t have it any other way. There is pressure to make the show, but LEGACY MOTOR CLUB has a lot of strength on the superspeedway program, and Erik (Jones) and Noah (Gragson) as well as the crew chiefs have great notes for us to start with.”

ALLY Extends Full-Season Sponsorship of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Team through 2028

TEAM AND ALEX BOWMAN ALSO INK NEW MULTI-YEAR CONTRACT

CONCORD, N.C. (Feb. 15, 2023) – Ally Financial and Hendrick Motorsports have reached a five-year extension through 2028 that will continue the digital financial services company’s full-season primary sponsorship of Alex Bowman and the No. 48 NASCAR Cup Series team.

In addition, Hendrick Motorsports and Bowman have agreed to a new three-year contract that will keep the driver behind the wheel of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 through at least 2026.

Sunday’s DAYTONA 500 (2:30 p.m. ET on FOX) will kick off Ally’s fifth season as the sole primary sponsor of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team. Since joining the 14-time Cup Series champions in 2019, the brand has been one of the most active in auto racing with a variety of marketing programs that include recently becoming an Official Partner of NASCAR.

“We couldn’t ask for a better partner than Hendrick Motorsports, so extending our relationship for the next five years was a no-brainer,” said Andrea Brimmer, Ally’s chief marketing and public relations officer. “We’re one team, and Ally, together with Hendrick Motorsports and Alex, are a winning combination. Through this extension and our recently announced NASCAR sponsorship, we are fully committed to being an active part of the sport and deepening our engagement with fans.”

“Alex is our guy, and a true ally. He’s an incredible driver who shares our passion for connecting to the community,” Brimmer added. “We’re proud to stand by him as his longest sponsor and expand on this true partnership.”

As one of the most engaged sponsors in NASCAR, Ally helped bring racing back to the city of Nashville with the Ally 400 and has partnered with Bowman to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for rescue animals alongside Best Friends Animal Society. Ally has also worked with diverse creators, including its collaboration with artist Caroline Fogle to design the Ally 48 dual primary paint schemes for the 2023 season. Outside of NASCAR, Ally supports one of Bowman’s passion projects – his frequent dirt racing efforts across the country.

“When Ally makes a commitment to something, they’re all in,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “It’s been extremely rewarding to see their passion for the No. 48 team and the unique ways they use the sponsorship to engage with our fans. Not only do these initiatives positively influence Ally’s business, they leave a lasting impact on the communities where we race. It’s a special partnership that’s just getting started.

“We’re thrilled to extend with Alex, who is one of NASCAR’s most exciting young stars. In addition to being hugely talented, he has incredible passion and commitment that set him apart. He’s a proven winner, and I don’t know of anyone who has worked harder to reach this level. The opportunity to continue our relationships with Alex and everyone at Ally is a great way to kick off 2023. It’s a tremendous combination.”

Bowman, 29, joined Hendrick Motorsports full-time in 2018 and has won five points-paying Cup races since moving to the No. 48 team in 2021 – tied for third among all drivers in that span. The Tucson, Arizona, native has earned a playoff berth in each of his five years with the organization. Entering DAYTONA 500 qualifying on Wednesday night (8:15 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1), he will seek to start from the front row of NASCAR’s biggest event for the sixth consecutive time.

“It’s hard to put into words what this opportunity means to me,” said Bowman, who is paired with new crew chief Blake Harris for 2023. “Having support from a sponsor like Ally, a car owner like Mr. Hendrick and a team like Hendrick Motorsports is everything you could want as a race car driver. I’m pumped about what’s in store for the Ally 48 this season and love the direction we’re heading. We have a lot to accomplish, and it all starts this week in Daytona.”

Car Harmonic Balancers: Most Frequently Asked Questions – Answered

The crankshaft plays an important role in turning your car’s wheels. It’s what converts the power coming from the engine into forward motion that propels your car forward. Every time the crankshaft is exposed to the movement, though, it vibrates and resonates. Eventually, vibrations become worse, resulting in crankshaft failure. In order to prevent that, harmonic balancers are used.

What are harmonic balancers? They’re circular discs with a hole in the middle and two opposing tabs on either side of that hole. They’re placed onto the front of the crankshaft so they face each other, but do not interfere with anything else. When the engine is running, these harmonic balancers help reduce vibrations by allowing them to pass through the shaft’s centre hole, and then out through the tabs on either side of it. This makes for more efficient power transmission and prevents damage from occurring.

Where are Harmonic Balancers Used?

Harmonic balancers are found on most modern vehicles. They’re usually attached to the front of the crankshaft in order to prevent vibrations from reaching other parts of the vehicle’s engine. They can be found on all types of engines including gas, diesel and hybrid motors. Some harmonic balancers are made out of metal while others are plastic.

Where Are They Located?

They’re usually placed between the flywheel and the transmission, but some models have them in the centre of the engine block. They’re usually positioned on the front side of the crankshaft, which is the side closest to the flywheel.

What’s Their Purpose?

Harmonic balancers reduce vibrations by allowing them to pass through the shaft’s centre hole, and then out through the tabs on either side of it. This makes for more efficient power transmission and prevents damage from occurring. When properly maintained, a harmonic balancer can last up to 160 000 kilometres. They’re often used on diesel engines and hybrid motors because they don’t require a fan.

What are Their Parts?

Harmonic balancers are made up of two main components: the housing, which is usually plastic; and the shaft itself, which is made out of metal. The shaft has small tabs that allow it to fit into the housing without any interference.

What Does Balancer Failure Look Like?

  • You’ll notice a rattling sound coming from the front of your engine when you’re driving
  • The engine will seem to be vibrating or shaking more than usual; this is an indication that something isn’t working correctly
  • There may be some oil leaks coming from the balancer as well.

These are all signs that something is wrong with your harmonic balancers.

How do You Replace a Balancer?

Replacing car harmonic balancers is fairly easy, especially if they’re made out of plastic. The first thing that you need to do is drain the oil in the engine and then disconnect the wiring harnesses connected to them. Next, remove the harmonic balancers by removing their mounting bolts and then disconnecting the front pulley on the crankshaft.

Once you’ve done that, remove the harmonic balancers and replace them with new ones. Some models have car harmonic balancers made out of metal; these are slightly more complicated to install because they might need some adjustments before being put back into place.

How do You Adjust a Harmonic Balancer?

If your balancers require adjustments, then check the following:

  • First, make sure that the tabs on either side of the centre hole are facing towards each other properly. If not, then adjust them until they are.
  • Make sure that the shaft isn’t bent or warped, which can happen if it’s been hit by something and needs replacing.

If there’s any damage to the balancer, replace it immediately with a new one.

How do You Know When to Replace Your Balancers?

You should check the condition of your balancers at least once every year. This will allow you to catch potential problems before they occur and prevent damage from happening. If you’re unsure about how to check them or if there’s something wrong with them, have a professional mechanic do it for you. Check the condition of your balancers by turning the engine on and listening to see if they’re working properly. You’ll be able to hear whether or not they’re making any strange noises.

What are the Common Balancer Problems?

There are several issues that can occur with harmonic balancers and cause them to break down prematurely. These include:

  • Improper installation; if you don’t know how to install balancers properly, then it’s best to leave that up to a professional mechanic.
  • The wrong type of balancer is being used on your vehicle; make sure you’re using the right model for your engine and its specific needs. This will prevent damage from occurring more quickly than expected.
  • Your balancers might have been hit by something when they weren’t supposed to be. If you hear a rattling sound coming from the front of your engine, then there’s a chance that something has hit one of the harmonic balancers.

What are the Symptoms of a Broken Balancer?

  • Engine overheating – This is usually caused by a broken balancer because it allows coolant to leak out and cause more damage than usual.
  • Rusted or damaged parts – This can be due to leaks in the cooling system or oil pan, which will make it harder to find out what’s wrong with your car.

How Much Does a Balancer Cost?

balancers can be found on different types of vehicles and they have prices that vary according to their model, brand and size. For example, the harmonic balancer for a BMW 5 Series costs about $80 while the one for a Toyota Corolla is only about $40. Depending on how old your vehicle is and what kind of engine it uses, the price for balancers can range from $30 to over $500.

How Often Should you Replace Your Balancer?

It’s recommended that you change balancers every 100 000 kilometres or so. This will help prevent problems from occurring and make sure that your vehicle stays in good condition at all times. If your car has a lot of kilometres on it and hasn’t been maintained properly, then you might need to change them more often than that.

Hose Clamps: Everything You Need to Know

Hose clamps are an essential yet often overlooked component of any job requiring extra securing and sealing of hoses and pipes. For auto, boat, or plumbing professionals looking for a secure fit that won’t budge, hose clamps are the way to go. A reliable and durable clamp can help avoid leaks, corrosion, fire risks, environmental damage, or other costly repairs, so it pays to understand how they work. This article will provide everything professionals need to know about hose clamps.

What are Hose Clamps?

Hose clamps are a nifty tool used to prevent a hose or tube from disengaging from a fitting. They provide a solid and secure hold, making them essential for many hose attachments in automotive services, aircraft maintenance, and marine operations. Hose clamps are easily adjustable, making them the perfect fit for various hose diameters while providing an effective connection that won’t slip, shake, or come undone. With hose clamps, the possibilities are endless when it comes to installation configurations.

How do Hose Clamps Work?

Hose clamps, also known as hose clips, are essential to modern plumbing. They provide a secure and tight seal around hoses, preventing them from loosening due to the pressure of passing liquids or gasses. Most hose clamps consist of a metal screw encased in either plastic or metal banding, which is then tightened using a screwdriver until it exerts enough pressure to create the most precise fit possible. Proper installation ensures maximum seal integrity, as incorrect fitting could lead to leakage and other dangerous pipe malfunctions.

What are the Different Types of Hose Clamps?

Hose clamps are widely used to secure a hose and other components to piping systems or heater core installations. Depending on their intended application, many types of hose clamps are available, including screw-type and spring-type clamps.

Screw-type hose clamps are often made of metal, while spring-type hose clamps use coiled pieces of metal that open and close when needed. Additionally, cable-style hose clamps help maintain flexibility around hoses with long cuff clutches that quickly loosen to allow for adjustment.

Lastly, specialty solar hose clamps provide a strong connection for flexible corrugated tubing by tightly gripping the ridges in the solar piping. Since these styles require fewer fasteners compared to standard couples, they’re ideal for installations requiring frequent maintenance or cleaning.

How to Choose the Right Size Hose Clamp

Selecting the best option can be challenging when faced with a task that requires a suitable size hose clamp. However, it doesn’t need to be complicated or stressful. The most crucial factor is to measure the outside diameter of the hose or pipe at the point where the clamp will go. A professional should compare this measurement with a predetermined range listed in the hose clamp packaging to determine which size clamp is needed. Other factors, such as materials and additional sizes, should also be considered when purchasing the proper hose clamp for a project.

How to Install a Hose Clamp?

Installing a hose clamp can be difficult, mainly for non-professionals unfamiliar with the process, but it is entirely doable with patience and the right tools. Start by placing the hose into its connector, ensuring a snug fit. Then take the hose clamp and put one end around the hose, leaving some space on one side for expansion. Next, use the provided screws to tighten the clamp until it is secured onto the hose.

Lastly, use an adjustable wrench or a pair of pliers to ensure that the screw is in place, ensuring it’s tight enough to prevent leaks but not too tight not to damage either connecting part.

One common problem with hose clamps is that they can become loose over time, which can cause leaks. Moreover, hose clamps can rust or corrode if made from metal, which can eventually cause them to break. Finally, plastic hose clamps can become brittle and crack if exposed to extreme temperatures.

Chase Purdy- No. 4 Bama Buggies Silverado Craftsman Trucks Daytona Preview

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Overview:
Event: NextEra Energy 250, Race 1 of 23, 100 Laps – 20/20/60; 250 Miles
Location: Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway (2.5-mile tri-oval)
Date/Broadcast: Feb. 17, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

‘Chase’n” Checkers:

Chase Purdy will make his Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) debut behind the wheel of the No. 4 Bama Buggies Silverado in Friday night’s NextEra Energy 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. The 23-year-old driver will be beginning his third full-time season in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and first with KBM. He enters Friday night’s race having totaled five top-10 finishes and 17 laps led across his 52 career Truck Series starts. He posted a career-best sixth-place result in 2021 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.

Bama Buggies, your one-stop shop for all the biggest names in powersports and utility vehicles, will be the primary sponsor on Purdy’s No. 4 Chevrolet Friday night and for the majority of the events on the 2023 schedule. They are Central Alabama’s powersports experts, serving as an authorized dealer of Polaris, Slingshot, and Seadoo.

Purdy finished 16th in the Truck Series standings last year after competing in 22 of the 23 events. He posted two top-10 finishes and nine laps led, with a season-best finish of seventh coming at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in October. He missed the season-opening event at Daytona last year after experiencing a mechanical failure in qualifying prevented the engine in his truck from getting up to full speed and his truck number was not guaranteed in on points. He has one prior start in the Truck Series at the “World Center of Racing,” which came in 2021 when he qualified fourth but saw his event end after an electrical issue sidelined him with nine laps remaining in the race. He finished 21st in his line ARCA Menards Series start at the Florida track, after getting caught up in a lap-87 crash.

The Mississippi native is part of a new-look KBM that will hit the track for the first time Friday night as a Chevrolet team with two full-time entries of its own and a technical alliance on REV Racing’s first-ever entry in the Truck Series.

Since becoming a full-time entry for KBM in 2015, the No. 4 truck has captured both of KBM’s driver championships and totaled 18 wins with five different drivers. The number has found victory lane for KBM in six of its seven seasons, excluding 2018. John Hunter Nemechek piloted the No. 4 to seven wins in his two seasons behind the wheel before moving into a full-time ride in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for 2023.

Jimmy Villeneuve will be atop the pit box for Purdy and the No. 4 Chevrolet team this season. Prior to being promoted to crew chief for the 2023 season, Villeneuve served as a Truck Chief at KBM since the 2017 season and in that role was a part of 18 wins, a driver’s championship with Christopher Bell in 2017 and the 2019 owner’s championship with the No. 51 team. Prior to joining KBM the New Hampshire native served as a truck chief at Athenian Motorsports in 2015 when the team won with John Wes Townley and he was promoted to crew chief five races into the 2016 season. Friday night’s race will be Villeneuve’s first calling the shots for a race at Daytona.

Chase Purdy, Driver Q&A:
Chase Purdy | Daytona International Speedway Preview
How is your comfort level heading into Daytona with a new team?
“I feel pretty comfortable, obviously I’ve done a few speedway races over the course of my career so I kind of know what to expect. Really, its kind of like any other speedway race, you kind of enter into it thinking about survival and being in the right place at the right time. It you can keep the nose on it, by the end of the race you’ll have a shot.”

You ran up front and led laps in the fall at Talladega. Does that give you confidence heading into Friday night?
“Definitely, any time you go some where and can run up front and lead laps it gives you a lot of confidence going into similar type places. So, I don’t see why we can’t do the same thing this year.”

Do you enjoy superspeedway racing?
“Yes and no. I think when you have a good day and keep yourself out of trouble then yes, it’s pretty fun to speedway race. If you get collected in the big one, or something dumb happen and its not even your fault and it’s just a product of what’s around you then it’s not really fun to speedway race.”

Chase Purdy Career Highlights:

  • Across 52 career Truck Series starts, has produced 17 laps led and five top-10 finishes. Posted career-best sixth-place result at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in 2021
  • Finished 16th in Truck Series championship standings in 2022.
  • Finished fourth in the 2018 ARCA Menard’s Series championship standings after recording 84 laps led, 10 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.
  • Earned the 2017 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie of the year honors and finished fourth in the championship standings after posting four poles, 200 laps led, five top-five and eight top-10 finishes across 14 starts.
  • Won the prestigious Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model race at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., in Dec. of 2018.

Chase Purdy’s No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado RST:

KBM-13: The No. 4 Bama Buggies team will unload KBM-13 for Friday’s season-opening race at Daytona. This chassis has led at least one lap in its last seven races, including a race-high 50 laps with John Hunter Nemechek in last year’s Truck Series race at Daytona. KBM owner-driver Kyle Busch captured his organization’s only victory at Daytona with this chassis in the 2014 event.

  • The No. 4 has 18 career victories at KBM and was the number for both of the organization’s driver championships.

From 2020 through 2022, Custer competed in the NASCAR Cup Series. He still moonlighted in the Xfinity Series, scoring a win last February in the Production Alliance Group 300 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Driving a Ford Mustang for SS Green Light Racing, Custer beat Noah Gragson by .565 of a second to secure his second Xfinity Series win at his hometown track.

• The wrestler “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would punctuate his time in the ring by raising two beer cans above his head and then smashing them together before guzzling them down. In 2019 when Custer won the first of his seven races in March at Fontana, he emulated Austin’s antics in victory lane. A tradition was born, and so was the nickname “Stone” Cole Custer.

• Beer goes well with beef, and Custer is eyeing Saturday’s Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway for another “Stone Cole” moment. It is the first race of the season and it will mark Custer’s 111th career Xfinity Series start. Custer likes the numerology and aims to add another No. 1 with career win No. 11.

• The Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300 will be Custer’s seventh Xfinity Series start at Daytona and his 14th overall. Custer has five NASCAR Cup Series starts at Daytona and a start apiece in the NASCAR Truck Series and ARCA Menards Series. His best Xfinity Series result at Daytona is 14th, earned twice (February 2018 and February 2019). His best overall finish at Daytona is 10th, earned in his lone ARCA race in February 2016.

• Fun fact: For that ARCA race, Custer won the pole and since he was just a few weeks removed from his 18th birthday, he became the youngest pole winner in ARCA history at Daytona.

• Time flies, for this past offseason Custer became a married man. He and wife, Kari, tied the knot in a ceremony in early January in Charlotte. The two got engaged during a rare NASCAR off-weekend in June 2022 after dating for several years. They reside in Cornelius, North Carolina, with their dog, Honey.

• Custer’s best man at the racetrack is Jonathan Toney. The Newton, North Carolina-native is the crew chief for Custer and the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang. Toney is one of the most tenured members of SHR. He joined Haas CNC Racing – the precursor to SHR – in December 2003, five years before Tony Stewart partnered with Haas Automation founder Gene Haas to form SHR. Toney was the lead engineer for Stewart and the No. 14 team from 2009 through 2012, helping secure Stewart his third NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2011 and the first for SHR. He remained an engineer at SHR, assisting the organization across its Cup and Xfinity Series programs, and spending considerable time with Custer during his previous stint in the Xfinity Series. The 2023 season marks Toney’s first as a crew chief.

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

• Riley Herbst kicks off his third season as the driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for SHR with the Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner. 300 at Daytona. The 120-lap race marks Herbst’s 110th career start and his eighth at Daytona. His previous best finish at the track is fourth, which he earned in August 2020 and then again in the 2022 season opener. In his past two seasons with SHR, Herbst has only finished outside the top-15 once at Daytona and led laps in three of four races.

• Herbst has five starts at Daytona outside of the Xfinity Series – three in the ARCA Menards Series and two in the NASCAR Truck Series – with a best of seventh in the Truck Series season opener in February 2020. He’ll also be making his NASCAR Cup Series debut the day after the Xfinity race during the 65th running of the Daytona 500, where he’ll pilot the No. 15 Ford Mustang for Rick Ware Racing.

• Richard Boswell returns as the crew chief for Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team. The 38-year-old begins his seventh year with SHR and his third with Herbst. He has been the main steward of SHR’s Xfinity Series program since its inception in 2017 and has been the crew chief for nine of SHR’s 21 Xfinity Series wins. His drivers have qualified for the Xfinity Series Playoffs four straight seasons (2019-2020 with Chase Briscoe and 2021-2022 with Herbst). Boswell’s father Dickie Boswell successfully campaigned a Late Model stock car out of the family’s hometown of Friendship, Maryland. The elder Boswell ultimately competed in 57 Xfinity Series races with four top-five finishes over six seasons in the 1980s.

• During the offseason, Herbst went back to his family roots when he traded in his stock car for an off-road trophy truck for the 55th running of the Baja 1000 in November. The 23-year-old racer from Las Vegas drove the final leg of the 828.25-mile journey down the Mexican Baja Peninsula alongside his co-drivers – younger cousin Pierce Herbst and off-road racer James Dean – for the second year in a row. The team crossed the finish line first in class, but after serving a time penalty for missed checkpoints, ended up third.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang

You’re returning to the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the No. 00 Haas Automation Ford Mustang where you enjoyed so much previous success. What do you expect heading back to the series where you first made a name for yourself?

“It’s going to be different. Everything about these Xfinity cars is different, from the setup to how it works. Getting back in the simulator has helped me get my head wrapped back around the Xfinity car. It’s a little bit less hectic in the Xfinity Series. Honestly, it’s less grueling of a schedule, but at the same time we’re going to do everything we can do each week to win races. Strategy is completely different in Xfinity. In Cup, you do a lot more green-flag pit stops. In Xfinity, you’re doing a lot of restarts on old tires. You have to save your tires a lot more than in Cup. The crew chief will stick you out there on old tires and you have to change your mindset in that scenario. You’re guesstimating how far you can push it on those opening laps on the restart on old tires. We’re hitting the ground running in getting ready for the 2023 season.”

The 2023 season also brings you a teammate with Riley Herbst back behind the wheel of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang. How will having a teammate help improve SHR’s Xfinity Series program?

“Riley and I have talked a lot. I’m looking forward to working with him, especially on superspeedways. I saw him getting left out a lot last year and I think we can work well together there. We can bounce ideas off of each other. It’ll be a good year and we’re hoping to grow the program.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang

You’re back for your third season behind the wheel of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang. Last year was a career-best year for you in the Xfinity Series in terms of top-fives (eight) and top-10s (20). Moving forward, what are your goals for 2023 and beyond?

“We need to be better and, hopefully, we will be. I want to be able to continue to grow and build on that success we had in 2022. Build those top-10s into top-fives and then turn those into wins. Victory lane is our end goal and that’s everyone’s goal here at SHR. Hopefully, we can achieve that. I feel like as racers, we always want to be better than last year. That’s the ultimate goal. In reality, we’re only going to be happy in victory lane. The biggest thing is to just build on that consistency and take one more step from where we were last year.”

You’re welcoming a new teammate this year with Cole Custer back in the No. 00 Ford Mustang. How excited are you to have a two-car team at SHR?

“I’ve known Cole for quite some time, now. He’s a really good guy and I’m hoping to grow that friendship. I think the biggest thing is strength in numbers. We’ve always been a solid race team in the Xfinity Series, but to have a teammate this year with Cole and to be able to lean on him is big. I can ask him questions, but we can also grow together each and every week. It will only make us stronger. We’ll be sharing notes and data every weekend. Not only that, but the organization now has two shots each weekend to make it to victory lane, so that helps, as well.”
