Longtime Charlotte Motor Speedway President H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler Passes Away

CHARLOTTE, NC (Aug. 21, 2025) – Longtime Charlotte Motor Speedway President and General Manager H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler died peacefully of natural causes yesterday surrounded by loving family. He was 86.

A transformative figure in the world of motorsports, Wheeler was hired by Speedway Motorsports founder Bruton Smith in 1975 and oversaw the operations of one of NASCAR’s premier venues until his retirement in 2008. He was best-known for his “FANS First” approach; mentorship of drivers and industry professionals; and his elaborate and flashy pre-race stunts, earning the moniker “the P.T. Barnum of motorsports.”

Statement from Charlotte Motor Speedway on the passing of H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler:

Charlotte Motor Speedway was blessed to have a leader in Humpy Wheeler who can only be described as ONE of a kind.

For more than 30 years, Humpy was a promoter’s promoter at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Alongside our founder Bruton Smith, Humpy pushed the speedway to new and greater heights – establishing the famed 1.5-mile superspeedway as not only the most innovative facility in NASCAR for fan, partner and competitor amenities, but also one of the most progressive in all of sports.

Humpy’s engaging smile and flair for promotion were legendary, and his impact on every stakeholder in motorsports will be long-lasting. Often described as the “P.T. Barnum of motorsports,” Humpy not only made his mark with publicity, but also with a laser-focus toward the fans. He would often tell his staff to pay attention to “the three Ts – tickets, traffic and toilets” in order to ensure fans have the best possible experience. He would also say it was our job to put a little “technicolor in people’s black-and-white lives.”

While the motorsports world has lost an icon, the legacy H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler created by building and promoting remarkable events at Charlotte Motor Speedway will continue for generations to come.

Information regarding funeral arrangements will be released at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Wheeler’s name to the Belmont Abbey College Motorsports Management Program, which Wheeler was instrumental in launching more than 20 years ago to prepare young professionals for business, management and marketing roles across the industry.

Howard Augustine “Humpy” Wheeler Jr.

1938 – 2025

Howard Augustine “Humpy” Wheeler Jr., a revolutionary figurehead in motorsports and the longtime president and general manager at Charlotte Motor Speedway, died peacefully of natural causes yesterday surrounded by loving family. He was 86.

Born Oct. 23, 1938, in Belmont, N.C. to the late H.A. Wheeler Sr. and Kathleen Louise Dobbins, Wheeler had a lifelong love affair with cars and racing. At the age of 11, he hitchhiked to his first auto racing event at Charlotte Speedway, not far from where Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is today. Two years later, he founded Belmont’s first-ever bicycle repair shop, which he used to help promote local bicycle races.

“I actually promoted my first race when I was 13,” Wheeler told the Roanoke Times in 1990. “A Little Rascals type of a deal, but I would give prizes and stuff. It was a unique business. They’d tear their bicycles up over there, see. They’d take ’em home to try and let their daddies fix ’em. They couldn’t, so they’d bring ’em in to me to put back together. Had to make a living some way back then.”

Before he established himself as one of NASCAR’s greatest promoters, Wheeler considered a career in professional boxing. Despite aspirations of joining the U.S. Olympic Boxing team in 1960, a career record of 40-2 and a Golden Gloves championship at the age of 17, Wheeler hung up his gloves when he realized his weight class could find him sharing the ring with boxing greats like Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. He was inducted into the Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992.

When he was 18, Wheeler spent a summer at Darlington Raceway, where he was mentored by Russ Catlin, a respected publicist.

“It was kind of a rat’s nest bunch of people like Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison. We were all the same age group and we knew each other while we were coming up,” Wheeler told sportswriter Randy King of The Roanoke Times in 1990. “Nobody ever thought that anybody would amount to much.”

Wheeler played football at the University of South Carolina until a serious back injury brought his playing career to an end. He later earned a double major in journalism and political science in 1961.

After graduation, he returned to Charlotte where he worked with local CBS television station WBTV and simultaneously began promoting local auto races at grassroots tracks in nearby Gastonia and Monroe. After brief stints with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, the City of Charlotte and the Ervin Company, Wheeler was hired by businessman and fellow racing promoter Bruton Smith in the fall of 1975. Smith, who owned Charlotte Motor Speedway and its parent company, Speedway Motorsports, named Wheeler track president the following year, beginning a career that spanned more than three decades at one of NASCAR’s premier venues.

“Bruton and I shared the same philosophy,” Wheeler shared with King. “Racing must be the greatest sport in the world because we’ve dusted people to death… we’ve given them terrible rest rooms… they sit out in the rain, snow, sleet and hail… lousy parking… traffic jams. But they kept coming back, and they kept multiplying. What would ever happen if you ever did it right?”

In only his second year at CMS, Wheeler diligently worked with Smith to bring sports car racer Janet Guthrie to the 1976 World 600 where she became the first woman to qualify for a race at a NASCAR superspeedway. Guthrie would finish 15th ahead of future Hall of Famers Dale Earnhardt and Bill Elliott following a whirlwind week of publicity orchestrated by Wheeler.

A transformative figure, Wheeler guided the famed 1.5-mile facility through periods of unprecedented growth and expansion. Under his management – and in an effort to keep NASCAR’s All-Star Race rooted at Charlotte Motor Speedway – Wheeler supervised the installation of a first-of-its-kind lighting system, illuminating the superspeedway for the sport’s first-ever night race in 1992. Following the success of that event, dubbed “One Hot Night,” many racetracks followed suit and night racing soon became a more regular part of the schedule.

It was the latest in the speedway’s long history of fabulous firsts that Wheeler and Smith spearheaded, including overseeing the construction of a fine-dining restaurant overlooking Charlotte Motor Speedway, adding VIP suites and luxury condominiums.

“We did a lot of things to try to make it better for the fans, and he did a lot of that,” Smith said after Wheeler’s CMS retirement in 2008.
Wheeler was at the helm when the speedway inked the first ever major naming-rights agreement for a motorsports facility, establishing an 11-year partnership to call the venue Lowe’s Motor Speedway. With an eye toward making racing affordable and groom future racing stars, Wheeler was also instrumental in the creation of U.S. Legend Cars International, a subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports, which manufactures, sells and delivers small-scale grassroots race cars worldwide.

Despite his contributions across many areas of motorsports, his flamboyant and flashy pre-race stunts and shows were, perhaps, what endeared him most to fans. From hosting boxing matches and a three-ring circus in the infield to recreating the Battle of Grenada, sending stunt drivers flying through the air or introducing fans to Robosaurus, a metal-mashing robot, Wheeler’s flair for showmanship earned him the nickname the “P.T. Barnum of motorsports.”

“I don’t know what it was, but I just saw something in racing,” he told The Roanoke Times. “There was spectacle waiting to happen. And that was always in my head.”

Wheeler’s larger-than-life persona extended far beyond motorsports. He published his autobiography, Growing Up NASCAR in 2010. Wheeler’s voice was immortalized in the 2006 Pixar animated movie Cars, where he played the role of Tex, a 1975 Cadillac that owned the fictional company Dinoco. He later reprised the role in the franchise’s Cars 3 reboot. He also appeared on the third season of the series American Pickers when he donated items from his personal collection to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

For his contributions to motorsports, Wheeler was inducted into the National Motorsports Press Association and North Carolina Sports Hall of Fames in 2004, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2009. He was awarded the Achievement in Motorsports Tribute Award from the North Carolina Motorsports Industry in 2013 and received an honorary doctorate from Belmont Abbey College in 2019. Earlier this year, the NASCAR Hall of Fame announced Wheeler as the Landmark Award for Outstanding Contributions to NASCAR recipient as part of the 2026 NASCAR Hall of Fame class.

“His passion was to ensure that when each fan left the track, they felt as if they had been a part of a happening,” NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty said, according to a 2008 Yahoo Sports article. “Under his direction, Charlotte Motor Speedway became the gold standard by which all other racetracks were built and in how they were measured.”

Apart from motorsports, Wheeler was active in church and civic clubs. Among other boards and commissions, he previously served on the Belmont Abbey College Board of Trustees, the Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the Charlotte Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Governor’s Sports Commission, the National Motorsports Council, the North Carolina Highway Patrol Foundation, the President’s Advisory Committee at the University of South Carolina and the Speedway Motorsports Board of Trustees.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Pat; their three children, Patti Wheeler (Leo Hindery), Tracy Hardy and Trip Wheeler (Jacqui); 4 grandchildren, Jackson Marchant, Adele Marchant, Austin Hardy (Donna), Adam Hardy and one great-grandchild Augusta Hardy plus sisters, Angie Wheeler (Janet Jones) and Mary Plexico (Lowry).

Information regarding funeral arrangements will be released at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memory of Humpy Wheeler Jr. to the Belmont Abbey College Motorsports Management Program, which Wheeler was instrumental in launching more than 20 years ago to prepare young professionals for business, management and marketing roles across the industry.

  • With Alex Bowman finishing second and Kyle Larson sixth at Richmond Raceway on Saturday, Hendrick Motorsports remains the only organization to place at least one car in the top 10 of every event in 2025. That streak goes back 33 races to last season, the longest such run of any team in the Next Gen era.
  • The Hendrick Motorsports engine shop stands at 549 national series victories, just one short of an unprecedented 550. The organization’s engines have won 18 poles (seven in the NASCAR Cup Series, 11 in the Xfinity Series) and 22 races (six in Cup, 15 in Xfinity and one in the preseason Clash) in 2025 and have powered teams to 40 points paying Cup Series victories in the Next Gen era, the most of any organization.

  • With 16, the organization leads the series in stage wins. That total is the second-most through a season’s first 25 races all time.
  • Hendrick Motorsports is the all-time leader in wins (17), poles (23), top-five finishes (64), top 10s (114), and laps led (2,331) at Daytona International Speedway. With William Byron winning the season-opening DAYTONA 500, the organization has a chance to sweep both races at the historic 2.5-mile superspeedway for the third time. The previous occurrences came in 1986 (Geoff Bodine and Tim Richmond) and in 2013 (Jimmie Johnson won both). Johnson remains the last driver to both events at Daytona in the same year.
  • In the Next Gen era, no team has more wins on drafting tracks than Hendrick Motorsports (seven).

Kyle Larson, driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet, on heading to Daytona International Speedway: “Yeah, there’s one more race until the playoffs start. Anybody has a shot to win at Daytona (International Speedway), so hopefully we can go there and have a good race, a good points day and get ready for the playoffs.”

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet, on the summer race at Daytona International Speedway: “The summer Daytona race, even as a kid growing up, I thought it was an incredible atmosphere for Daytona. The 500 is the 500, it’s different. I think there’s a lot to appreciate there. But just for a fun race to go to at the beach, all those things, I think (the summer race is) a great stop on our schedule and I look forward to going.”

William Byron, driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet, on winning the NASCAR Cup Series regular season championship: “I think we knew within our team that we were different this year, different towards the end of last year, just really kind of buckled down and started to make some really good moves, good decisions. I started driving the car pretty well.
“It’s kind of like the speed was always there. Feel like that’s always what you need. We’ve been able to make something out of the races where we don’t have as much speed, too.”

Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet, on Daytona International Speedway: “Daytona’s always wild. You never know what’s going to happen, but that’s part of the fun. For us, it’s about staying out of the mess and being there at the end. This is the final race to get locked into the playoffs, so every point matters.”

Your Ultimate Vehicle Dimension Guide: How Car Sizes Impact Comfort, Usability, and Decision-Making

The dimension of a vehicle type is more important than most owners imagine when picking up a new vehicle. A report by Statista in 2023 indicated that more than 46 percent of all new passenger cars in the world were purchased as SUVs, which suggests that consumers are moving towards bigger and more spacious cars. In parallel, urban populations expand and, by 2050, almost two in three people worldwide will dwell in cities (United Nations, 2022). This provides a complexity in parking, turning, and fuel consumption, which are all directly linked to the size of vehicles.

The Importance of Vehicle Dimensions in Daily Life

1. Parking and Maneuverability

The standard dimensions of a U.S parking space are 8.5 to 9 feet (2.61-2.7 m) by 18 feet (5.5 m) (National Parking Association). As the 2025 Buick Enclave III width will be 2233 mm(87.9 in), there are already a few standard spots contesting the comfort margin.

2. Comfort and Interior Space

The length, height, and wheelbase of a vehicle are also directly associated with passenger comfort. A study conducted by J.D. Power indicates rear-seat legroom to be one of the three main influences on customer satisfaction when it comes to automobile design. The longer wheelbase sedans, such as the 2025 Audi A5 (4829 mm length), have greater ease of access to the cabin than the smaller hatchbacks.

3. Fuel Efficiency and Aerodynamics

The U.S. Department of Energy suggests that the larger and weightier the vehicle/car, the less the fuel economy. As an example, a small car will be 30-35 MPG, and a big SUV is 18-23 MPG. The width and height of the vehicle also influence aerodynamics, contributing to the efficiency.

Browsing by Body Style

Body style significantly affects usability.

  • Sedans (2204 generations available): Balanced for families and professionals.
  • SUVs (2044 generations): Ideal for cargo and versatility, but harder to park.
  • Pickup trucks (623 generations): Useful for towing and hauling.
  • Microcars (30 generations): Perfect for dense urban areas with limited parking.

Featured Vehicle Models and Their Dimensions

To demonstrate the differences in size, here are several popular 2025 models:

Audi SQ5 III Sportback (2025): 4717 mm length, 2155 mm width the sport SUV spot in style and compactness.

BMW X3 (2025): 4755 mm length, 2132 mm width – a little bigger, more cargo versatility.

Honda Odyssey V (2025): 5212 mm length, 1994 mm width: a very spacious minivan, a great choice if you want to be able to take the whole family.

Buick Enclave III (2025): 5273 mm long, 2233 mm wide- one of the widest SUVs, very comfortable but difficult in tight parking spaces.

Lamborghini Fenomeno (2026):  5036 mm length, 2266 mm (width) but 1161 mm high; created to perform, not to accommodate.

These comparisons reveal how dimensions can alter usability by large measure according to our lifestyle requirements.

Forte Racing Brings Confidence and Momentum to VIR

GTD and VP Racing SportsCar Challenge Programs Set Sights on Strong Weekend

Monrovia, California (Thursday, August 21, 2025) – Following a runner-up finish at Road America, Forte Racing heads to Virginia International Raceway with confidence and momentum. After scoring a second-place finish at VIR in 2024, the team returns knowing what it takes to succeed on the 3.27-mile circuit. This weekend, Forte will campaign its No. 78 Huntress Forte Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in GTD with drivers Misha Goikhberg and Mario Farnbacher, while also fielding two entries in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge with drivers Brian Thienes and Jon Hirshberg. Competing in both championships at VIR underscores Forte’s determination to deliver strong results on one of the most technical and demanding tracks on the IMSA calendar.

GTD driver Misha Goikhberg enters the weekend with confidence, buoyed by Forte Racing’s second-place finish at Road America earlier this month. Having also finished runner-up at VIR in 2024, he views the event as both an opportunity to build on past success and a chance to keep the team’s momentum rolling into the final stretch of the season.

“We’re heading into VIR with good momentum after our second place at Road America,” Goikhberg said. “We finished second here last year as well, so the goal is definitely to get back on the podium. It’s a track I really enjoy — fast, technical, and a lot of fun to drive. I know we have the pace and the team to fight for another strong result, and I’m confident we can deliver.”

Mario Farnbacher brings proven success to VIR, a circuit where his technical skill and feel for old-school tracks have consistently paid dividends. With the Forte Huntress Lamborghini alongside teammate Misha Goikhberg, he views this weekend as another opportunity to turn his experience at VIR into a push for the podium.

“VIR is a cool track, very fast and technical, kind of old school — unfortunately now without the oak tree,” Farnbacher said. “I always like going to a track where it’s only GT cars, so no prototypes this time. That allows you to focus 100% on performance without worrying about traffic. The downside is there are fewer cars, so you can’t always use traffic to your advantage, but in the end it’s the same for everyone. I’m looking forward to trying to get back on the podium like at Road America with our Forte Huntress Lamborghini and with Misha as my teammate. I’ve always had great success at VIR, which makes it a special place for me. The track has that roller coaster feel I love, and I can’t wait to go through the esses flat out.”

On the other side of the paddock, Brian Thienes faces a demanding triple-header weekend at VIR, with the rescheduled Canadian Tire Motorsport Park race added to the schedule. Currently sitting second in the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge standings, Thienes enters VIR with his season-long pace and determination keeping him firmly in the championship fight.

“I am looking forward to working with US RaceTronics and my engineer Pete Jacobs this weekend at VIR,” Thienes said. “The team always provides a great competitive car, and I expect the same for this weekend. Hopefully, my track knowledge will provide an advantage for the team this weekend.”

After competing in the VPRC season opener at Daytona, Jon Hirshberg shifted his focus to Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Now returning to Forte Racing for the final two rounds of the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, Hirshberg is eager to get back into the LMP3 platform at one of his favorite circuits as he looks to close out the season on a high note.

“I am very excited to get back into the LMP3 platform this weekend with Forte after a long break since Daytona,” Hirshberg said. “VIR is one of my favorite tracks in the U.S. and we found good pace here last year. I’m eager to see where we stack up this weekend.”

For Team Principal Shane Seneviratne, the podium at Road America was more than just a strong result — it was proof of the team’s preparation and collective effort. As Forte Racing takes on VIR with programs in both GTD and VPRC, he sees it as another chance to showcase the depth of the operation and the resilience that has become a hallmark of the team. He remains focused on execution and building toward championship-caliber results.

“Coming off a podium at Road America, the entire team is carrying great momentum into VIR,” said Seneviratne. “This track demands precision and teamwork, and I believe our group is ready to rise to that challenge. Competing in both GTD and VPRC really showcases the depth of our program and the dedication of our drivers, crew, and partners. Weekends like this are about execution, resilience, and building on the progress we’ve made, and I’m confident we can deliver strong results.”

Primary Partner(s): DUDE Wipes
Manufacturer: Chevrolet Camaro
Crew Chief: Andrew Abbott
2025 Driver Points Position: 22nd
2025 Owner Points Position: 24th
Engine: Earnhardt-Childress Racing

Notes of Interest:

● Year Two, Full Throttle: In January, Young’s Motorsports announced that NASCAR Xfinity Series veteran Anthony Alfredo would compete full-time for the team in its second year of Xfinity Series competition.

Alfredo is driving the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro for the entire 33-race schedule, which continues with this Friday night’s Wawa 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

● About Anthony: A popular driver, Alfredo, a native of Ridgefield, Connecticut, joins Young’s Motorsports with an array of Motorsports experience, including starts in the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN® Truck Series, respectively.

The 2025 season will mark Alfredo’s fourth full-time Xfinity Series campaign, and he joins the Mooresville, N.C.-based team after spending the 2024 season with Our Motorsports.

The 25-year-old finished 15th in the 2024 Xfinity Series driver standings, highlighted by a Dash 4 Cash victory at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway. He added two more top-five finishes and seven top-10s to his career totals, further strengthening his résumé across 141 Xfinity Series starts.

● All-Aboard!: For the 24th of 33 Xfinity Series races this season, Young’s Motorsports welcomes back DUDE Wipes as the primary partner on the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro for the 100-lap race on Friday night.

DUDE Wipes is the flagship product of DUDE Products, a men’s hygiene company that was founded in 2012 by lifelong friends in Chicago.

The U.S.-based company introduced DUDE Wipes as the first flushable wipe for adults, marketed as a better hygiene solution to dry toilet paper.

The brand is available online and in 20,000 stores nationwide, including Walmart, Target and Amazon.

Daytona International Speedway marks the 13th race where DUDE Wipes has served as the anchor partner on the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet this season.

● Anthony Alfredo NASCAR Xfinity Series Daytona International Speedway Stats: Friday night’s penultimate superspeedway race of the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season will mark Alfredo’s ninth career start at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

In his previous eight starts at the “World Center of Racing,” Alfredo’s best result came during the 2022 edition of the Beef. It’s. What’s. For. Dinner. 300, where he earned a track-best seventh after starting 16th, while driving for Our Motorsports.

Overall, he holds an Xfinity Series average finish of 20.5 at the famed Daytona Beach, Fla., superspeedway.

In addition to his eight NASCAR Xfinity Series starts, Alfredo also has three NASCAR Cup Series starts at Daytona International Speedway, finishing a track series-best 26th in the season-opening Daytona 500 in 2021, driving for Front Row Motorsports.

24 races into the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season — with just nine remaining — Anthony Alfredo and the Young’s Motorsports No. 42 team remain laser-focused on one mission: mounting a late-summer charge toward the Playoffs.

This weekend, that charge heads to the high banks of Daytona International Speedway — one of the most iconic venues in all of motorsports. Known for its breathtaking speeds, close-quarters pack racing, and unpredictability, Daytona is a place where fortunes can change in an instant and dreams can be made under the lights.

A breakthrough victory at Daytona wouldn’t just ignite the team’s Playoff push — it would send a clear message to the rest of the Xfinity field and mark a defining moment in the momentum Alfredo and the No. 42 Chevrolet team have been trying to build all season long.

Friday night’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race is more than just another stop on the schedule — it’s a showcase of drafting, strategy and split-second decision-making where the difference between triumph and heartbreak is measured by inches. Alfredo knows the opportunity ahead is significant.

Then on Saturday night, the NASCAR Cup Series delivers one of the most anticipated events of the year — the Coke Zero Sugar 400. As the regular season finale, it stands as the last chance for drivers to lock themselves into the Playoffs, guaranteeing high drama and fireworks both on and off the track for the 12th and final leg of the second half before the 10-race Playoffs begin next weekend at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.

For Alfredo and the No. 42 team, every lap around the World Center of Racing could bring them one step closer to the postseason. And should they find Victory Lane on Friday night, it wouldn’t just be a win — it would be a powerful statement in their Playoff pursuit.

● Anthony Alfredo Xfinity Series Career Stats: Entering Daytona, Alfredo has 141 NASCAR Xfinity Series races to his credit, earning a career-best third-place finish twice, most recently at Talladega Superspeedway after starting 11th in the 2024 edition of the Ag-Pro 300 for Our Motorsports.

Since 2020, he has earned one pole, five top-five, and 23 top-10 finishes and has an average finish of 20.0.

● Watkins Glen International | Mission 200 at The Glen Race Recap: The NASCAR Xfinity Series made its annual trip to the Finger Lakes of New York, taking on the iconic Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International for the penultimate road course race of the 2025 season.

Once again, Young’s Motorsports and driver Anthony Alfredo displayed strength, grit, and determination — only to have their efforts halted in Saturday’s Mission 200 at The Glen.

Competitive speed in practice carried into qualifying, where Alfredo secured the 20th-fastest lap and set the stage for 82 laps around the 2.45-mile layout.

From the drop of the green flag, Alfredo maintained a solid pace and kept the No. 42 Dude Wipes Chevrolet Camaro clean, finishing a respectable 18th in Stage 1 and positioning the team to capitalize on strategy in the closing stages.

But as the race unfolded, adversity struck. While executing their plan, Alfredo was sent spinning into the gravel by another competitor, costing the team valuable track position. In the midst of recovering, a fuel pump issue forced the team behind the wall for quick repairs.

Determined to salvage the afternoon, Alfredo returned to the track and avoided a multi-car incident on the backstretch before nursing the car home to a frustrating 32nd-place finish at the checkered flag.

Now 24 races into the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, Alfredo and the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports team remain focused as they approach the homestretch.

With the summer stretch winding down, every lap, every adjustment, and every finish carries added weight in their pursuit of a breakthrough victory — one that could vault them into the Playoffs and shift the momentum in their favor.

● Calling the Shots: Guiding Alfredo as crew chief of the No. 42 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro is longtime crew chief Andrew Abbott.

On Friday night, he will be crew chief in his 153rd NASCAR Xfinity Series race. In his previous 152 races, he has four top-five and 14 top-10 finishes.

The season’s 24th race will be his 13th tango at Daytona as crew chief in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

● Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR Xfinity Series at Daytona International Speedway: This weekend will mark Young’s Motorsports’ fourth NASCAR Xfinity Series start at Daytona International Speedway.

Last February, the team successfully made its Xfinity debut at the track by qualifying for the race, but a late-race accident spoiled what had been a strong performance.

The team rebounded in August, charging from 20th on the grid to finish ninth — one of two top-10 finishes during its inaugural season of competition.

Earlier this year, the team executed a near-flawless run in the season-opening United Rentals 300, only to be swept into a multi-car accident one lap from the finish of the February 120-lap race.

In total, Young’s Motorsports has competed in six NASCAR Xfinity Series superspeedway events, earning an average finish of 14.1.

At Daytona specifically, the team’s three previous Xfinity starts have produced an average starting position of 23.7 and an average finish of 20.3.

Beyond its Xfinity efforts, the Mooresville, N.C.-based organization has logged 21 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts at Daytona since 2014.

In that span, the team has averaged a 17.4 finish, highlighted by a team-best fourth-place result with veteran Spencer Boyd in the 2019 NextEra Energy Resources 250.

● Young’s Motorsports’ NASCAR Xfinity Series History: Since entering the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024, the family-owned organization has logged 56 starts and maintains an average starting position of 25.6 and an average finish of 23.6.

Anthony Alfredo Pre-Race Quotes:

On Daytona International Speedway: “Daytona International Speedway is such a historical venue and an icon of our sport.

“Every opportunity to race there is a blessing I do not take for granted, and there is nothing more I want than to win there.”

On Preparation for Daytona International Speedway: “iRacing is an excellent tool for preparing for superspeedways because of some of the visual aspects, like being tucked up in the draft and having poor visibility in the pack.

“It can also help you practice blocking and managing the lanes behind you with your rearview mirror while leading.

On the Car’s Handling at the Summer Daytona International Speedway Race: “The summer race at Daytona always makes handling of the race car more important than the opener in February.

“It will be hot and slick, plus the track seems to get rougher every time we go back. Also, the race is slightly shorter, so track position will be even more critical.”

On the Keys to Success at Daytona International Speedway: “Survival is always important at a place like Daytona, but executing all night long to score stage points and be upfront at the end, it’s ultimately what it will take to win.”

On Daytona International Speedway Expectations: “Anything short of a win at Daytona will be a disappointment to me.

“This year has been tough for everybody on our team and a victory would save our season by making up for all the misfortune and locking us into the playoffs.”

On His Superspeedway Craft: “Racing for smaller teams in all of the national series of NASCAR has taught me to maximize opportunities where the playing field is more equal.

“Superspeedways like Daytona certainly fit into that category. I have spent a lot of time studying film and learning what it takes to put myself in a position to win. I’ve been close before, and it’s about time I broke through.”

On Watkins Glen Speedway Finish: “I was proud of the gains we made on our road course package at Watkins Glen up until our fuel pump cable broke.

“It was just another frustrating mechanical failure that gives us more determination to go win Daytona on Friday night.”

On Goals for the Second Half of the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series Season: “We have had a lot of ups and downs throughout the first half of the race season, but I’m confident we can recover by bringing fast cars to the track and executing well throughout this second half.

“We need more top-10s and a couple of top-fives before the end of the season. Ideally, winning just one race before the Playoffs is our ultimate goal because it would completely save our season.”

Adelson will then shift focus to the headline Michelin GT Challenge at VIR, joining Elliott Skeer in the No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R. Adam Adelson

VIR is such a special and historic track, and it happens to be my favorite in the US. It’s super demanding, and I love that IMSA gives the opportunity to the GT cars to be the top class racing here. We had strong pace here last year, and we found some great performance in the car at Road America, so I’m beyond excited to see what we can accomplish. Also, this is a double duty weekend for me, where I’ll be participating in three VP Challenges in addition to the WeatherTech race. How to Avoid Scams When Hiring Contractors Online

Hiring a contractor online can save time, but only if you do it right. With so many listings out there, it’s easy to run into fake profiles, unlicensed workers, or offers that sound too good to be true. One wrong move can cost you thousands or leave your project half-finished. Here’s what to pay attention to when choosing a contractor through online platforms.

Verify Their Credentials Before Anything Else

Contractors working with plumbing, electrical systems, or structural changes must be licensed in most states. Ask for a license number and check it through your state’s official resources. Also, confirm they carry liability insurance because this will help protect you in case of accidents or any damage during the job.

Dig Into Their History

Look past website testimonials. Search for independent reviews, preferably on neutral platforms. Consistent feedback, detailed ratings, and a clear service history matter more than flashy photos. Be cautious if you see repeated complaints or incomplete business details.

Compare Multiple Estimates

Don’t go with the first quote. Get at least three estimates, and be skeptical of ones that are much lower than the rest. It might signal hidden fees, low-quality work, or even a scam.

Use Smart Hiring Rules to Avoid Trouble

Here’s a short checklist before making your decision:

  • Confirm license and insurance.
  • Read verified reviews and ask for references.
  • Avoid large upfront payments.
  • Write down all agreements (scope, deadlines, cost).
  • Don’t let anyone rush or pressure you.

If you’re looking for Contractors Near Me, check out MyHomeQuote, a service that connects you with vetted professionals in your city or state. MyHomeQuote is a trusted aggregator that gives you an opportunity to choose contractors based on their reviews, ratings, and profiles.

A bit of caution goes a long way. Stay alert, trust your gut, and always double-check before you hire, no matter how urgent the project feels.

A Thrilling Formula 1 Season

Weekends in Styria, Northamptonshire, the Ardennes, and at the Hungaroring arrived faster than many expected. Four races in six weeks brought four maximum points finishes for McLaren but also revealed that Ferrari finally has pace on every type of track, Mercedes is a steady third, and Red Bull is leaning almost entirely on the magic of Max Verstappen. After fourteen races, Oscar Piastri leads with 284 points, with Lando Norris just nine behind, creating a charged atmosphere inside the garage. For fans and bettors tracking every duel through Merkur Xtip, the 2025 Formula 1 season has already become one of the most captivating in recent years.

Lando Norris Best in Austria

The Red Bull Ring on June 29 was the perfect stage for another McLaren showdown. Norris and Piastri shared the front row, but the key was the start: Norris used better traction, defended the inside line into the tight Remus corner, and immediately dictated the rhythm. Piastri briefly tried an undercut during the first round of pit stops, but warming the hard tire compound left him without attacking pace. Ferrari claimed their first podium of the year through Charles Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton’s fourth place showed growing comfort with the team’s new aerodynamic package.

Hülkenberg Stuns at Silverstone

A week later, nearly 170,000 fans at Silverstone witnessed another flawless Norris weekend. Despite driving half the race on the edge of his fuel load because McLaren had shifted fuel strategy in qualifying, Norris secured his third win of the season. Special applause went to Nico Hülkenberg, who delivered Sauber’s first podium since Robert Kubica’s 2008 Canadian GP win.

Piastri Masters the Rain in Belgium

The third weekend in a row featured a sprint format: Friday brought shortened qualifying, Saturday morning’s sprint went to Verstappen, and Saturday afternoon’s main qualifying put Norris on pole just ahead of Piastri. It set the stage like a betting thriller in Spa. On Sunday, heavy rain delayed the start, and Piastri was the first to fully capitalize by switching to medium tires at the right moment. Norris limited the damage to finish second, while Leclerc secured another podium for Ferrari.

Hungaroring: Closest Finish of the Decade and McLaren’s 200th Win

Hungary is often epic due to difficult overtaking, but a heatwave and soft compounds created fireworks. Leclerc shocked everyone with pole on Saturday, but by lap five, McLaren had seized control: first Piastri, then Norris, both with sharp but clean overtakes at turn one. From then on, it was chess. Piastri stopped early for hard tires, while Norris stayed out longer, setting the fastest laps on mediums. In the final three laps, Norris closed in, seized his one chance, and crossed the line 0.698s ahead—the smallest margin of victory this decade. The win gave McLaren their 200th triumph and fourth consecutive one-two finish, a feat last achieved by Prost and Senna in 1988.

Current Driver Standings

  1. Oscar Piastri – 284
  2. Lando Norris – 275
  3. Max Verstappen – 187
  4. George Russell – 172
  5. Charles Leclerc – 151
  6. Lewis Hamilton – 109
  7. Kimi Antonelli – 64
  8. Alexander Albon – 54
  9. Nico Hülkenberg – 37
  10. Esteban Ocon – 27

Antonelli has already scored points five times and became the youngest rookie to surpass 60 points, a surprise outcome that few betting markets foresaw. Albon delivered a symbolic win for Williams.

Current Constructor Standings

  1. McLaren – 559
  2. Ferrari – 260
  3. Mercedes – 236
  4. Red Bull – 194
  5. Williams – 70
  6. Aston Martin – 52
  7. Sauber – 51
  8. Racing Bulls – 45
  9. Haas – 35
  10. Alpine – 20

Although the numbers reflect McLaren’s dominance, Ferrari scored 109 points in the last four races—more than any team besides the leaders—and expects further gains from a new engine planned for Monza. Williams and Aston Martin have traded positions in the “top five” chase, but back-to-back double-digit results from Albon and Sainz Jr. put Williams firmly in fifth. Aston Martin bounced back in Hungary thanks to Alonso and Stroll, surpassing 50 points for the first time this season. Sauber relies on Hülkenberg’s flashes of brilliance, Racing Bulls and Haas collect small points on low-degradation circuits, while Alpine remains last despite announcing a new technical director from Lotus’s 2013 glory days.

Looking Ahead

The four-week summer break will be crucial for teams to upgrade their packages for Zandvoort and Monza. Piastri and Norris, separated by a single-digit gap, will be under the microscope from the media and their own garage, making live betting on their duels especially engaging. Rumors suggest Verstappen could receive new hybrid components in the Netherlands, adding another layer of intrigue.

If the action in Styria, Silverstone, Spa, and Budapest is any indication, 2025 will be remembered as the year the “orange double force” turned into a sensation, a summer thriller, and perhaps an autumn drama the sport hasn’t seen in years. One thing is certain: every inch of asphalt until Abu Dhabi will be a battlefield where titles are claimed and the future of the next Formula 1 era is forged.

Salvage Supercars for Sale: Your Step-By-Step Guide to Affording the Unaffordable

Buying a Ferrari, McLaren, or Lamborghini typically requires a six-figure check, sometimes more. Yet right now, across insurance pools and online auction yards, there are salvage supercars for sale at prices closer to a new midsize sedan. The catch? Each one carries a branded title and damage that can range from cosmetic scrapes to fractured carbon fiber. This guide walks you through the full process in clear, down-to-earth language, so you can decide whether a salvage supercar belongs in your garage, workshop, or parts inventory.

Know Why Supercars Become Salvage So Easily

Supercars tip into salvage status sooner than everyday vehicles for four main reasons:

  1. Expensive Materials – Carbon-fiber fenders, forged wheels, and exotic alloys are significantly more expensive than stamped steel. A parking-lot scrape that might cost $900 on a family hatchback can top $15 000 on an Italian coupe.
  2. Limited Repair Networks – Factory-approved shops charge high hourly rates, and insurers are required to use them. Those labor estimates quickly inflate repair totals.
  3. Proprietary Electronics – Adaptive aerodynamics, active suspension, and multiplex wiring mean dozens of pricey sensors. Even a minor electrical short can cost thousands of dollars.
  4. Rapid Depreciation – After five or six years, many exotics lose a big chunk of their showroom value. A collision that would be repairable on a newer model totals an older example.

When a repair quote exceeds roughly 70–80% of the pre-loss value, the insurer writes the car off and sends it to a salvage auto auction or a specialist broker.

Understand the Three Main Damage Profiles

  1. Cosmetic Hits – Scratched bumpers, cracked diffusers, or small carbon-fiber chips. These cars often drive perfectly but need paint, filler, or panel swaps.
  2. Mechanical Failures – Blown clutches, seized engines, or damaged dual-clutch transmissions. The shell remains intact, yet drivetrain parts demand deep technical skill – or hefty shop bills.
  3. Structural Compromise – Broken carbon tubs, bent subframes, or crushed roof pillars. Repairs require factory jigs and certified bonding agents. Consider these cars only for parts harvesting unless you own a high-end body shop.

Research Before You Ever Place a Bid

Run the VIN check – Free databases reveal prior auction appearances, service campaigns, and mileage history. If the same car has appeared in multiple auctions within a six-month period, assume it has unresolved problems.

Price the Big Stuff – Look up typical costs for headlights, quarter panels, and airbag modules specific to the model year. Some headlights exceed $6 000 each.

Read Forum Build Threads – Enthusiast communities document common failure points, specialty tools, and parts interchange tricks—essential intel when planning a budget.

Check Parts Availability – A rare color or limited-run interior can delay repairs by months. Confirm suppliers can source the pieces you will need.

Build a Realistic Budget

Write four lines on paper or in a spreadsheet:

  1. Auction Hammer Price
  2. Buyer Fees and Taxes
  3. Transport and Short-Term Storage
  4. Essential Repairs (Parts + Labor)

Add a 20 percent safety margin for surprise expenses such as hidden cracks in carbon panels or a second airbag sensor you missed in photos. Compare the projected total to private-party prices for the same model carrying a rebuilt title. If your number is not at least 25 percent lower, walk away and watch the next listing.

Decide Your Endgame Up Front

GoalSmart Car ChoiceTypical Labor Load
Weekend CruiserCosmetic hits, clean chassis, minor interior scuffsBodywork, paint blending, minor electronics
Track-Day WeaponCars with drivetrain intact but cosmetic or minor frame rashSafety prep, suspension upgrades, alignment
Engine Swap DonorSevere side or roof damage but running powertrainPull engine/gearbox, sell leftover parts
Parts ResellerMultiple small hits across panels but intact interiorDismantle and catalog everything

Having a clear exit strategy steers your bidding discipline and parts-purchasing decisions.

Inspect Photos Like a Body Shop Estimator

  1. Panel Gaps – Uneven door or hood lines can flag subframe shift.
  2. Wheel Alignment – A tire pushed back in the arch often signals bent suspension arms.
  3. Carbon-Fiber Weave – Wavy patterns under clear coat mark compression damage beneath the surface.
  4. Glass and Trim – Cracked windshields with camera modules require recalibration—budget for it.
  5. Dashboard Power-On Shot – A lit cluster shows at least partial electronic health and verifies mileage.

If distance makes mistakes expensive, order a third-party inspection. Many independent technicians will run compression tests, use a borescope to inspect cylinders, and photograph underbody details for a few hundred dollars – a cost-effective measure for a six-figure purchase.

Arrange Transport the Right Way

Supercars ride low and roll on wide tires, so:

● Use soft straps and low-angle ramps to avoid splitter damage.

● Request enclosed shipping if the car contains exposed carbon or high-gloss paint.

● Verify whether the brakes function; non-rolling shells need dollies and a winch.

● Schedule pickup within the yard’s free storage window (often three to five days) to dodge late fees.

Navigate Paperwork and Insurance

Most states require:

  1. Before-and-after photos
  2. Receipts for structural parts, airbags, and lighting
  3. A safety or theft-repair inspection
  4. Odometer and emissions paperwork (where applicable)

Insurance varies. Many carriers offer liability only on rebuilt titles. Specialty insurers may add collision and comprehensive once you present a certified appraisal and frame-measurement report.

Avoid Five Costly Pitfalls

  1. Overbidding on Glamour – Auction fever climbs fast when a bright-red badge comes on screen. Set a ceiling and stick to it.
  2. Ignoring Spare-Part Lead Times – Some carbon panels are built to order, resulting in six-month waits.
  3. Underestimating Electronics – A single missing ECU can immobilize the car, and cost more than a family sedan’s engine.
  4. Trusting Unverified Mileage – Always cross-check cluster photos with service records and online listings.
  5. Skipping Frame Measurements – For cars with aluminum or carbon tubs, even small deviations can render doors or glass unfit, despite cosmetic repairs.

Example Walk-Through: Mid-Engine Coupe With Front-Corner Hit

Final Word

Salvage supercars for sale can turn millionaire dreams into attainable projects, but they punish guesswork. Start with thorough research, map every cost before bidding, and match the damage profile to your toolbox and final goal. Whether you hope to cruise on weekends, dominate track days, or strip a drivetrain for a custom build, a disciplined plan transforms yesterday’s totaled exotic into tomorrow’s pride. Approach the process with patience and clear math, and you may find that the biggest thrill isn’t just the V-10’s scream – it’s knowing you unlocked that experience at a fraction of showroom price.
