Bobby Labonte Teams Up with Sadler/Stanley Racing for 2023 Modified Season

NASCAR Legend to Drive No. 18 VA Pace-O-Matic Modified

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (November 22, 2022) – Legendary NASCAR Champion driver and Hall of Famer Bobby Labonte has announced he will join Sadler/Stanley (SS) Racing for the 2023 modified season, after making his SS Racing debut at Martinsville Speedway in October for the final race of the 2022 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season. Labonte will be chasing the checkered flag behind the wheel of the No. 18 VA Pace-O-Matic Modified.

Labonte will race in his third full season of the Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams Tour (S.M.A.R.T.), where he previously piloted the No. 25 Cook Out Tour Modified. He finished third overall in the 2022 season, with nine top-5 finishes. The 13-race schedule is set to be released soon.

Labonte also plans to drive the No. 18 in several NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour races, including Richmond, Martinsville and North Wilkesboro, among others.

“The modified tour has been a lot of fun the last couple years, and I’m excited to return with a great new team like SS Racing,” said Labonte. “Hermie and Senator Stanley have put together a great program and they are really motivated to show what their team can do. Along with returning sponsors Cookout and Units Moving and Portable Storage, I am also looking forward to representing Pace-O-Matic next year. They are really engaged and committed to racing, which is always a good thing.”

SS Racing was founded in 2022 by retired NASCAR driver and race analyst Hermie Sadler and Virginia State Senator Bill Stanley, and their modifieds are built and maintained by PSR Products. The team placed sixth overall in the S.M.A.R.T. tour this year with driver Jonathan Brown.

“What an honor to have Bobby Labonte driving our cars in 2023. I have known Bobby nearly 30 years, and his record and accomplishments on and off the track speak for themselves. He will be a great representative of SS Racing and Pace-O-Matic.” said Sadler.

“Bobby Labonte is a consummate professional, a NASCAR® Hall of Famer, and a hero to my youngest son Chandler,” said Stanley. “We are just thrilled to have both Bobby and his wife, Kristin, as a part of the Sadler/Stanley Racing family, and we are excited to get both the 2023 S.M.A.R.T. and Whelen Modified Tour underway so that we can run for checkers and championships with Bobby behind the wheel of the SSR No. 18.”

Ni Hsin Group Unveils Two TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycle Models

Mr. Chee Kok Hee, Secretary General of Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association; Mr. Lee Kun Feng, Vice President of Dongguan Tailing Motor Vehicle Co., Ltd; Yang Berbaqhagia Dato' Zailani Hj Hashim, Director General of Road Transport Department; Yang Berbahagia Dato' Seri Rosman Mohamed, Chairman of Ni Hsin Ev Tech Sdn. Bhd.; and Mr. Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of Ni Hsin Ev Tech Sdn. Bhd. [L-R]

Group targets 15,000 units in sales a year over three years

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22, 2022 – (ACN Newswire) – Ni Hsin EV Tech Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Main Market-listed Ni Hsin Group Berhad (formerly known as Ni Hsin Resources Berhad (Bursa: NIHSIN, 7215)), today unveiled two models of the TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycles.

The models, the TAILG EBIXON BOLD and TAILG EBIXON TORQ, in the personal and commercial use categories, respectively, are assembled at the Group’s manufacturing facilities in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.

Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of NH EV TECH, said, “After more than two years of hard work, from the conceptualisation, R&D, experimentation, trial and error, and close collaboration with our formidable partner, Dongguan Tailing Motor Vehicle Co., Ltd, we finally achieved the milestone with the launching of our TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycles – the Game Changer for Ni Hsin Group.”

The Group started selling coffee from motorcycles in line with BLACKBIXON’s concept of cafe@home cafe@office cafe@anywhere where the BLACKBIXON Coffee Bike can quickly deliver coffee ordered through e-commerce platforms.

Khoo explained, “The first motorcycle we experimented with was an internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycle which was not efficient as it was burdensome and costly, and we wanted a vehicle that is environmentally friendly. After a series of trials and experiences, an electrical motorcycle that was clean and has zero tailpipe emission was successfully developed, as our BLACKBIXON Coffee Bike last year.”

“We soon realised that there is a market for this purpose-built machine. The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a spike in e-commerce and hence the demand for delivery services. Motorcycles are a popular choice for its quicker delivery time and low maintenance. In light of global warming, EV motorcycles make perfect sense as they are energy efficient and cheaper to maintain.”

“There are lots of opportunities for the use of EVs, with the government providing incentives in the form of tax reliefs for the assembly or manufacturing of EVs, component parts, and the development of EV ecosystems such as charging facilities. The government as well as government-linked companies (GLCs) are also expected to adopt the use of EVs. Also, the global electric scooter and motorcycle market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 10.2% to US$93.9 billion by 2031 from US$35.3 billion in 2021.”

“Our target is to sell 15,000 units of TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycles a year over the next three years covering the Asia Pacific region. We are deep in negotiations with several organisations, GLCs, government agencies and dealers to promote, market and distribute our EV motorcycles in the region. Our business model includes outright sale and rent-to-own modules to businesses as well as consumers.”

The Group’s venture into the manufacture and assembly of EV motorcycles underscores its commitment to social and environmental responsibilities while creating a green revenue stream in carbon trading, in which emissions are treated as either carbon credits or offsets that can be sold in a carbon market such as Bursa Securities Malaysia Berhad’s voluntary carbon market (Bursa VCM), to be opened by the end of 2022.

Ni Hsin’s EV motorcycle business generates carbon offsets that can be sold to other companies to reduce their carbon footprint. The Bursa VCM will, besides providing transparency in the carbon credit market, boost investments in high-quality offsetting projects such as planting trees or shifting to cleaner fuels.

In conjunction with the unveiling of the two TAILG EBIXON EV Motorcycle models, Ni Hsin will also sign Memorandum of Agreements with several esteemed and well-connected organisations, including MIMOS Berhad, Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (PROLINTAS), HAI-O Enterprise Bhd and PT Winn Pratama Indonesia to assist in the marketing, promotion and distribution of these EV motorcycles.

9 Legal Tips for Car Enthusiasts on Protecting Their Rights After a Car Accident

Photo by Will Creswick on Unsplash

Car accidents are sometimes unavoidable. When they do happen, the consequences can be devastating. This is especially true for car enthusiasts, because crashes nearly always result in cars being wrecked, or at least seriously damaged. Sometimes, they result in injuries and even fatalities.

If you are somebody who considers themselves a car enthusiast and has been involved in an accident caused by another person’s negligence, then action needs to be taken. This post will offer nine legal tips for protecting your rights after an accident takes place.

Taking Evidence

The first step in protecting your rights is to take evidence, ideally from the scene of the crash. If you can, then take a photograph or video of your car, the guilty driver’s car, and any injuries that you have sustained. Make sure to get the other driver’s insurance information, too. If the other driver tries to get away without giving you their information, take their number plate down, and try to get a picture of them. It’s sadly not uncommon for people to try and get away after causing car accidents. When people do this it is a criminal offense and classified as a ‘hit and run’ accident.

Medical Certificate

Most car accidents result in some kind of injury, mentally and physically. Usually, financial settlements are paid to the victims of car accidents so that they can get medical treatment and recover from their injuries. If you have been injured, then the best way to prove this to a lawyer is to get a medical certificate. You can do this by reaching out to your physician or by asking for a written note from the doctor that you see at ER if you go to ER. Make sure to photograph your injuries, too.

Photographing Car

After the accident has taken place, and when you are back at home, make sure that you photograph your car and record any damages. The reason that you need to do this is that a lot of people do not make claims immediately. In most states, there is a three-year statute of limitations on car accidents. If after an accident you pay for it to be repaired and then decide to make a claim a year or so after, you need to have evidence that your car was damaged, so you can be compensated for it.

Gathering Witnesses

Ideally, you should gather witnesses to help support your case. Having witnesses can make getting paid compensation much easier, especially if you did not manage to get a photo or video evidence from the scene. The witnesses you gather should preferably be passers-by, as well as people that were in the car with you. Make sure that any witnesses you provide who were passengers in your car give unbiased and truthful accounts. It’s common for loved ones to exaggerate their stories to support their loved ones after they have been involved in accidents.

Hiring Lawyer

You will need to hire a lawyer, too. In the words of one auto accident attorney in Illinois, it will be very difficult for you to make a claim for compensation directly to an insurance company. Insurance companies appoint adjusters, who are individuals paid to reduce the settlement amounts of claims made to them. Only trained lawyers have the skills necessary to deal with such individuals. Make sure that the lawyer you hire is experienced and qualified. You can check a lawyer’s level of experience by reading their reviews and seeing what their case success rate is (this information is usually published on law firms’ websites).

Truthful Account

When you hire a lawyer, they will ask you to give them an account of what happened, or in other words, your version of events. When you give your account it needs to be as accurate, unbiased, and honest as possible. It’s only natural for you to want to exaggerate the extent of your injuries and make yourself seem like a bigger victim than you perhaps were but doing this could just lead to your case being thrown out or dismissed. If it turns out that you have lied in any way, your lawyer will no longer want to represent you, and the insurance company will refuse to pay compensation to you.

Remain Patient

Patience is important. Your case could go on for many years, depending on how much compensation you are claiming. It’s very rare for compensation claims to be paid in a matter of weeks or months. Sometimes, they take a very long time. If you are not a patient person, then you need to learn to become one. Not being patient could lead to you disturbing and annoying your lawyer. Your lawyer will not want to represent you if you pester them, sending them lots of emails or calling them all of the time.

Have Confidence

In some cases, personal injury claims are taken to court. More often than not, this occurs when a guilty driver is not insured and therefore has no insurance company to pay compensation out on their behalf. When a driver is uninsured a civil lawsuit is the only option. If you do need to take the individual responsible for injuring you and damaging your car to court, then you need to have confidence. It’s not easy standing up in court and giving evidence, but it may be necessary. Your lawyer will talk you through what you need to do and coach you in testifying.

Criminal Action

Finally, consider criminal action. If you believe that the person who crashed into you was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or was driving very dangerously, then you could have them arrested. If you suspect such a thing, it’s usually best to call the police at the scene of the accident. If you wait until afterward then there is no way for you to prove that they were on drugs or drunk. If they were driving recklessly, call the police as well.

Car accidents can lead to people being seriously injured, and their cars being damaged. If you have been involved in one, then take action. Contacting a lawyer (and following the other steps outlined here) is how you can protect your rights and get the justice that you deserve.

What Are The Processes Of Importing & Exporting Vehicles

Photo by Brennen Clifford on Unsplash

The process of importing or exporting a vehicle can be a lengthy process with many stages. A “vehicle” can mean anything from cars and motorcycles to boats, trailers, and RVs. Whether you’re importing and exporting for recreational or commercial use, you will most likely have to jump through hoops to ensure your vehicle doesn’t get delayed at the border or refused entry into the country.

We understand that navigating the importing/exporting process can be challenging. That’s why we’ve broken down the top things you should expect when going through the process.

Ensure Vehicle Admissibility

Before you go ahead and start the importing process, you may want to look into whether the vehicle is admissible in your country. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will have a list of nonconforming vehicles eligible for importation.

Certification

You will need both an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a Department of Transportation sticker for your vehicle. If the vehicle is older than 25 years, it won’t need a DOT sticker. If it’s over 21 years old, it will also be exempt from the EPA certification sticker. You will need to import the vehicle through a certified customs broker. We find that importing is made easy with Breeze Customs. Having professionals do the work for you will ensure you don’t miss any integral steps.

Imports without the proper certification stickers will not be allowed into the country, which is why you need to get on top of that as soon as possible.

Meet Proper Documentation Requirements

When importing or exporting vehicles to and from the US, you’ll need to remember that there are specific documentation requirements.

What Forms Do I Need?

The following forms should be completed and submitted:

  • US Customs/Commercial Invoice
  • DOT Vehicle Declaration Form
  • EPA Vehicle Declaration Form
  • Copy of the vehicle registration

You may also want to include the manufacturer’s statement of origin and the bill of sale.

Have the Vehicle Cleaned

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires all imports must be free of foreign soil to avoid the risk of transporting dangerous pests, especially the vehicle’s undercarriage. Foreign soil includes sand, earth, plant residue, manure, or any other related debris that could harbor pests. Consider having the car steam cleaned to ensure it’s ready to be imported or exported.

Pay Dutiable Fees

Foreign-made cars exported from overseas and imported into the US are considered dutiable. The following dutiable rates include:

  • Auto: 2.5%
  • Trucks: 25%
  • Motorcycles: 2.4% (or free in some cases)

The duty rates are based on the price paid or payable. Prepare to pay the fees associated with your imported vehicle.

Federal Tax

In addition, certain automobiles may be subject to the gas-guzzler tax imposed by the Internal Revenue Code. Those who import a vehicle, whether for personal or commercial use, may be liable for the payment of this tax.

Obtain Driver’s Plates & Permits

All imported and exported vehicles should have the International Registration Marker. Ensuring you have an international driving permit is a valuable asset when importing. Consult with your local automobile club or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to obtain temporary license plates and the correct documents.

We know importing/exporting is a hassle. It’s essentially a long list of to-dos, but it’s pivotal that you check off every box. The last thing you want is to have your pride and joy stuck at the border or sent back to its motherland. If you follow our tips, you can breathe a sweet sigh of relief knowing you’ll be behind the wheel of your new vehicle without further delay.

Laia Sanz targets strong end to Extreme E Season 2

The ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team has proven to be one of the most consistent driver pairings in Extreme E, with the Spanish duo of Carlos Sainz Snr. and Laia Sanz appearing in all four Finals so far this season.

Sanz, in particular, has produced some standout performances, which is all the more remarkable considering it is only her second campaign competing on four wheels. We caught up with Sanz after claiming second place at the Antofagasta Minerals Copper X Prix in Chile to discuss her impact in Season 2 and ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team’s title chances heading into the finale in Uruguay.

Extreme E: How would you sum up your performance in Chile?
Laia Sanz: Chile was really nice. It was the race where I felt the fastest so far and I think it was a good result. It was really good to be back on the podium and I think the team really deserved that.

It was a pity, though, because I believe we could have done even more. A second place sometimes is a great result, but when you know it could have been better then it is not perfect. Still, we can be really proud of what we did in Chile and I am happy for the team and for having the championship a little bit open for the final race, even if it still is really difficult.

XE: How would you compare your speed and experience in the car to when you first debuted for ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team?
LS: There is a big difference. I am still the driver in four wheels with less experience, but last year when I started in Extreme E it was a completely new thing for me. I was struggling a bit in the first races because the level was so high. The races are short so you don’t get much seat time, but I think I’ve used it really well and I have learnt a lot.

I already feel a change mentally, because when you get better you gain confidence and you know you can perform. This gives me a lot of positivity and I am enjoying it much more than last season.

XE: What do you think is the main reason for your performances in the ODYSSEY 21 now compared to last year, and how challenging is it on four wheels compared to two which you have previously been renowned for?
LS: Last year there was already a big improvement, because I was the fastest girl in practice in Dorset. I wasn’t as fast in the race because it was still my weakest point, but this year I’ve performed well in Saudi Arabia and in Sardinia.

I am getting more confident and I think the secret is being close to Carlos [Sainz Snr.], because he is a legend. He knows that I can learn a lot and I try to pay attention and listen to his advice. I think that’s the secret. I’ve changed sports throughout my career and I’ve always learnt from it.

I like doing new things and it’s easier when you are as motivated and passionate as I am. Having Carlos by my side is helping me a lot. Spending time with him is like a masterclass. He is the best teacher I could have.

XE: You were the fastest female driver in large parts of the weekend in Chile. What did you enjoy especially about the Chilean course?
LS: I didn’t really expect to be that fast in Chile. I was good in Saudi Arabia, but I was coming from Dakar and it was a similar terrain. However, Chile was something quite different. It was more rallycross style and I didn’t expect to be that fast because there are a lot of great rallycross drivers in Extreme E.

I did a couple rallycross races myself earlier this season, so maybe it helped. It was something unexpected, but I was happy about that weekend.

Overall, the weekend in Chile was just really good. I felt comfortable, which is the most important thing. I am also really happy because I can really help the team this year – there is still a big margin to improve but I feel I am improving in every area. Last season I was struggling and sometimes I felt bad for Carlos and the guys, but this year I do notice that I am helping the team and it makes me feel really proud.

XE: Lastly, you have faint title hopes going into Uruguay, but finishing within the Top 3 is definitely within your grasp. How would you sum up the year overall and are you excited for Uruguay?
LS: We are happy of course. We still have an outside shot at the title in Uruguay, although we know it’s very difficult. Still, we can feel really proud about what we have done this season. I feel it could be very different had we not had the accident in the NEOM Island X Prix I, because perhaps we could have won that race and then maybe everything would have changed. Maybe it would have put much more pressure on the championship and it would have been a better fight until the end. However, that’s racing – we will still try our best and that’s the main thing.

Our rhythm is much better than last year and we are really competitive in every race. We have been to every Final, which is such a milestone and something we’re very proud of. I don’t know what the final result will be, but we will give our best and see what happens.

You can follow ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team’s bid for the Extreme E Season 2 title at the final round of the championship in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on 26-27 November.

BRADEN CHIARAMONTE PLACES SECOND IN FIRST NIGHT OF TRIBUTE TO BILLY SHUMAN – KNOCKED OUT OF THE FINALE

(El Cajon, CA, November 18, 2022) One of California’s brightest young racing stars, Brayden Chiaramonte, drove to a second-place finish on the first night of the Tribute To Billy Shuman at Arizona’s Adobe Mountain Speedway. Twenty-four hours later at the finale, Chiaramonte was headed for the front of the pack when he got crashed out of the race.

For the Tribute race, Chiaramonte was making his first appearance at the picturesque track located near the Adobe Dam in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale. His first night of competition saw him turn in the 12th fastest time of the 27 cars on hand in hot laps. In his heat race, he started inside row two in the third position and quickly made his way to the lead and the eventual win. For the main, the talented driver began on the outside of the front row in second and he brought the family owned #73B home in the same spot that he started in.

The 15-year-old racer returned for night two and was greeted by a swelled field of 45 cars. That nearly doubled the amount that was there 24 hours earlier. In his heat race, he started seventh and moved up five spots to place second. That result, combined with his performance from the previous evening, placed him on the top of the point list going into the main event. The race had a redraw for the finale and the friendly driver pulled an eight. That meant he would start outside the fourth row of the 50-lapper.

As usual, the young driver was steaming his way toward the front of the pack. He was up to fifth and was making his move for fourth when he was spun out. That meant he had to restart at the back of the talent-laden field. Once the green flag came back out, Chiaramonte quickly began to weave his way forward. He found himself all the way back up to 10th and attempted to split two cars going into turn three. However, he got clobbered on the left front. The contact bent the front axle and broke the tie rod. That put him out of the main event and left him with a very frustrating 17th-place finish.

Chiaramonte is one of the early entries for the 38th Annual Lucas Oil Tulsa Shootout inside the massive SagNet Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The race will take place from December 26th through the 31st. At the 37th running of the prestigious race, the then 14-year-old Chiaramonte burst into the spotlight as a rookie at the event. More than 400 cars showed up to compete with Chiaramonte in the Stock Non-Wing class. He made it all the way to the final on New Year’s Day and finished ninth overall. This year, Chiaramonte will be very busy competing in four classes! The Winged Outlaw, Non-Wing Outlaw, Stock Non-Wing, and Winged A-Class.

As the season is winding down, Chiaramonte and his team are making plans for another busy year in 2023. If you are interested in becoming a marketing partner with one of the most talented and affable young drivers in the sport, please feel free to call or e-mail Daniel Chiaramonte mailto:dchiaramonte@rtltraffic.com or (619) 988 7563.

A couple of months ago, Chiaramonte was a guest on the Racer Radio Show. You can hear a replay of the show (Chiaramonte comes on at around 24 minutes) at the following link http://www.perrisautospeedway.com/radio22/RACERRADIO220918.mp3.

Chiaramonte would like to thank the following marketing partners for making his 2022 racing season possible. RTL Traffic Control and Equipment Rentals, AM Ortega, Impact Racing, and AIM Sports Data.

(GMMC), Mitsubishi Motors’ vehicle production and sales joint venture in China, has begun production of the all-new Outlander, a crossover SUV, and started sales on November 19.

The all-new Outlander is Mitsubishi Motors’ flagship model developed under the product concept “I-Fu-Do-Do”, which means authentic and majestic in Japanese. The Chinese specification model is newly equipped with a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo engine and a 48V mild hybrid system, with a maximum output of 120 kW and maximum torque of 280 Nm. In addition, the all-new Outlander boasts a robust and powerful styling with the evolved Dynamic Shield front face and 20-inch wheels1, and a refined high-quality interior. Further, safe and secure road performance is enhanced with a newly developed platform, an upgraded electronically-controlled 4WD and S-AWC (Super-All Wheel Control) system.

The Outlander was released in 20012 as Mitsubishi Motors’ first crossover SUV, and it has become one of the core models in the company’s lineup, comprising approximately 20 percent of the global sales volume in recent years. The redesigned Outlander was released in North America in 2021 and subsequently in other markets including the Middle East, Oceania, Latin America and Africa, with more than 100,000 units sold as of end of October 2022.

CLS DRIVER AJ BENDER SCORES WIN IN LIGHTNING SPRINT HANGTOWN 100 OPENER

AJ Bender takes the checkered flag at the Hangtown 100 in Placerville on Thursday. MMRACINGPHOTOS.COM

(Torrance, CA, November 18, 2022) One year ago this week, AJ Bender journeyed to the Placerville Speedway to take part in the lightning sprint portion of the three-night Hangtown 100. The San Diego, California-based star proceeded to finish second in all three main events at the open-wheel classic. Last night he kicked off this year’s Hangtown with a win in the 25-lap main event.

To say Bender’s win was anything but hard-fought would be a massive understatement. While he crossed the line a half straightaway ahead of teammate Grant Sexton when the checkered waved, he had to fight for every inch in the first 20-laps. Bender, in the Sexton Gatlin Racing #22, started on the outside of the second row in the main. Grant Sexton was on the pole with Lakeside, Colorado’s Johnny Boos alongside. 2022 BCRA champion Matt Land of Elk Grove started inside of Bender in row two. The BCRA duo of Harlee Aguilera of Orangevale and Citrus Heights racer Hunter Kinney was in row three.

Eighteen-year-old Sexton was the first driver to hit turn one on the famous red clay quarter mile at the outset of the main. Boos was second with Land and Bender third and fourth. The top three remained the same through lap four when a yellow flag came out after 2021 BCRA champion Dakota Albright of Waterford, blew a left rear tire. After racing resumed, things got interesting in a hurry. Boos, who had been working the outside in his sleek looking #24, slid off the top of turn two on the restart. Simultaneously, Kinney clipped the inside berm and the rear end of his car caught some airtime before coming back to earth. Both drivers continued, but Boos dropped back to fourth while Kinney somehow hung on to fifth.

Boos misadventure allowed Bender to move into second and Land to take over third. If anyone thought Boos was out of contention for the night, they were sadly misinformed. Before the field could get two more laps recorded, Ken Coulston slid to a stop forcing the second yellow flag in the first five laps. Soon after the restart, the Bermuda Dunes racer who drives a car that looks like Sammy Swindell’s Channel Lock car from many years ago, got upside down in between one and two necessitating a red flag. Fortunately, the driver was unhurt but he was done for the night.

On the restart before the red flag, Bender, 29, had relieved Sexton of the lead and Boos had moved back to third when he got past Land. Boos quickly got by Sexton for second on the following restart and set his sights on the race leader. Bender, who is a regular in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series and who was this year’s USAC Western Midget Series “Rookie of the Year,” maintained the point until a sweet move from Boos on lap nine relegated him to second. Going into three in second place, Boos quickly transitioned from the top to the bottom in turn three and shot past Bender.

After taking the lead, Boos kept it on the wide side, but he had Bender, snapping at his heels on the low line. In turn one on lap 11, Boos touched the cushion, and it sucked him in and slowed him down. By the time he recovered, the lead changed hands for the third time in the race and Bender was back in front. In addition, Sexton and Kinney went by as well for second and third. Suddenly, the race that was having such a hard time getting going was turning into a barn burner.

Bender, who scored California Lightning Sprint Car Series wins at the Bakersfield Speedway in April and May as well as the BCRA opener at Placerville at the end of March, was putting laps together and hitting his marks. That did not seem to matter to his teenage teammate. Sexton chased the leader down and tried to go by on the inside on the 17th circuit. Bender fended off the advances but Sexton remained close behind.

It looked like it was going to be a fight to the finish, between Sexton, the 2021 POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprint Series champion who has a flair for late race dramatics, and Bender. However, just as Boos did two times earlier in the race, the teen went over the cushion on lap 21. By the time he got settled back into the flow, he was still in second but Bender, in the Boczanowski/Sexton Fire Protection/BK Wings/Johnny Motorhead/Troy Dirt/Victory Graphix/Swift Powdercoat/Maxima Oil/Automated Interior/Scotty and Jimmy Keys/#21, was long gone. When the checkers came out, Bender was a half straight away in front of second place Sexton. Kinney, Boos, and Land rounded out the top five.

“I totally forgot about last year, so thanks for reminding me,” Bender laughed when Drake York asked him about his feelings after finally winning following three runner-up finishes in 2021. “It is cool. I am finally glad to get one because running second three times sucked. The car is a little off and we are trying to figure it out. It is the first time I am in it. I have to give a big shout-out to Phil and Wyatt (Boczanowski). Wyatt drives it and Phil owns the car. They let the SGR team bring it up here so I could drive it. We were doing homework on it trying to figure it out. We still have some stuff to work on. This one pays less. I want to win the one on Saturday. I have to thank Phil and Wyatt again, the whole SGR team, and my wife and daughter at home.”

Other CLS and Southern California drivers in the main were “Shugah” Shane Sexton (6th), Jeff Dyer (9th), Cal Smith (11th), Brent Sexton (12th), Mark Henry (13th), Dalton Sexton (15th), and Coulston (18th).

Preliminary action before the main event saw Grant Sexton out-qualify the 26-car field with a time of 14.455. Orangevale’s Harlee Aguilera was second fastest at 14.531 and Land was third on the speed charts at 14.533. USAC National star Logan Seavey of Sutter, Kinney, and Boos captured the heat races and CLS regular Jeff Dyer of Yucca Valley won the B main.

The action continues at the Hangtown 100 tonight, and Saturday. Gates will open each day at 3:00 p.m. with racing at 6:00. Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Named Motorsport Event of the Year in 12th Annual Historic Motoring Awards

Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Sanctioned 2022 Edition of Premier Event at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca that Garnered the Prestigious Historic Motoring Awards Event of the Year Honor

LONDON (November 18, 2022) — The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion – which was sanctioned for the second-straight year in 2022 by Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) – received the prestigious international recognition of Motorsport Event of the Year from the Historic Motoring Awards, presented by Octane, earlier this week in London. Judges selected the Rolex Reunion from an impressive list of international motoring events citing its adherence to presenting only authentic historic race cars and in attracting the best of the best to kick-off the yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“This prestigious award belongs to every person of the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca team, Advisory Council members, the experts from Historic Sportscar Racing, and the County of Monterey for the shared vision of maintaining adherence to being the best,” said Barry Toepke, Director of Heritage Events and Public Relations of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, who accepted the honor. “And equally important, the recognition goes to the participants who enjoy sharing their historic race cars at speed and spending time with the tens of thousands of appreciative fans who visit to see motorsports history come to life on the track and in the paddock.”

After debuting at the Rolex Reunion and Pre-Reunion in 2021 to begin a multi-year partnership, HSR continued this year in providing its expertise and vast collective experience in race event operations, full technical scrutineering, competitor and participant registration and vetting entries for the blockbuster Monterey events that are generally regarded as the premier historic and vintage motorsports events in North America.

The Event of the Year honor furthers the recognition that Monterey Car Week truly is an international gathering of enthusiasts, sponsors, journalists and like-minded businesses that are active in the automotive and collector car fields. The County of Monterey, owners of both the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, experienced a strong resurgence this year as visitors flocked to Monterey to enjoy such internationally popular events like the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Pebble Beach Concours d ’Elegance, and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

Established in the mid-1970s, HSR is led by HSR President David Hinton, who was a majority owner for the last 10 years and guided HSR’s sale to IMSA early in 2022. Hinton remains at the helm as president and continues to steer the organization through one of its biggest periods of growth in the more than 40-year history of HSR.

About HSR: Now an International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) property, Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) was formed in the mid-1970s with an event at Road Atlanta. There was one goal then and it remains true today: to celebrate the race cars from the past. As a “time machine” of sights and sounds, HSR provides a venue for competitors and spectators alike to share in the wonderful history and excitement created by the cars that competed at race tracks around the world. HSR currently sanctions eight vintage and historic racing events at some of the world’s most renowned race tracks, including Road Atlanta, Sebring International Raceway, Daytona International Speedway and more. The complete schedule and full event information can be found on HSR’s website at www.HSRRace.com. Look for the HSR Channel on YouTube and follow HSR on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/HSRrace/ and on Twitter and Instagram at @HSR_race. A dedicated website for the Classic 24 Hour at Daytona presented by IMSA is available at www.Classic24hour.com.
