Notes of Interest

● Chase Briscoe, driver of the No. 14 Magical Vacation Planner (MVP) Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), earned his fourth straight top-10 finish last Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 400-mile event kicked off the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Playoffs, the final, three-race round before the Championship 4 field is set. Briscoe qualified 16th and was battling for the lead during the final 23 laps before taking the checkered flag fourth. Since advancing into the Round of 12 following the Sept. 17 race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, Briscoe has been on a tear, finishing fifth Sept. 25 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, 10th at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Oct. 2, and ninth on the Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway Roval on Oct. 9 before Sunday’s fourth-place run at Las Vegas. He heads to Sunday’s Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway sixth in the playoff standings, nine points below the top-four cutoff.

● There’s only one track on the NASCAR schedule where Briscoe has visited victory lane in both a truck and a car – the 1.5-mile Homestead oval. In 2017, when he was driving fulltime for Brad Keselowski Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Briscoe arrived for that year’s finale at Homestead searching for a ride in 2018 as the team would be shutting its doors at season’s end. He finished 2017 on a high note at Homestead, leading four times for a race-high 81 laps en route to his first win in a NASCAR national series. The win elevated him to sixth in the Truck Series championship standings and earn him Rookie of the Year honors to go with his series Most Popular Driver award.

● The 25-year-old from Mitchell, Indiana, moved on to the Xfinity Series in a part-time capacity in 2018 before joining SHR fulltime in 2019. He totaled 11 victories in SHR’s No. 98 Ford Mustang in 2019 and 2020, and Homestead was the setting for one of his more remarkable weekends during the latter season. It was a Saturday-Sunday doubleheader in June, and he overcame a mountain of adversity in the Saturday race to score a solid seventh-place finish. He drove from nearly last in the 37-car field, having been forced to the pits before the green flag even waved for the 167-lap race after a piece of equipment fell off his racecar during the pace laps. It put Briscoe five laps down to start the event, but he drove through the field twice in the first 70 laps and used pit strategy to get back onto the lead lap for the seventh-place finish. When the No. 98 team returned to close out the doubleheader Sunday, Briscoe outdueled Brandon Jones in a two-lap dash to the finish to earn his third Xfinity Series win of 2020 by just .072 of a second.

Magical Vacation Planner returns to the No. 14 Ford Mustang for its final race with Briscoe this season. MVP was founded by Jamie Ane Eubanks alongside her husband JJ, a former professional basketball player, as a storefront travel agency in 2006. Today, it is a company that provides one of the best vacation planning services in the industry. It operates through three branches: MVP Parks, MVP Cruising and MVP Getaways. The company provides its exclusive and personalized, stress-free planning service at no additional expense to its clients, making the extensive array of Disney options and add-ons easy to understand and navigate. MVP actively seeks savings for its clients, monitoring early-morning releases of discounted room or vacation packages while also scouring existing reservations for price drops to where it can modify an existing reservation at the newfound lower price. MVP will also plan a family’s itinerary, expertly navigating Disney’s Genie+ and Lighting Lane systems to maximize resort and park times by avoiding long lines while also securing those premium Disney dining experiences that include coveted character meetings.

● To celebrate Briscoe’s fans and expand on MVP’s mission of helping others experience the magic and create lifelong memories, MVP is giving three lucky fans the opportunity to win a Walt Disney World ® Vacation Package. Fans can enter for a four-day, three-night Walt Disney World ® Vacation Package for up to four guests by visiting MagicalVacationPlanner.com/ChaseBriscoe.

Chase Briscoe, Driver of the No. 14 Magical Vacation Planner Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

You’re in the thick of your most consistent stretch of the season and it’s coming at the right time. Can you add to that this weekend at Homestead?

“Homestead is a place I definitely know how to get around, but I feel like we’re going to have to be better. I don’t think we expected the tires to get so worn out at Las Vegas and to be slipping and sliding around as much as we were. It gets a little concerning because Las Vegas has way more grip than Homestead does, so we’ll have to work on some things, but I think there’s a lot we’ve probably learned from last weekend that we can apply. We were really good at the test a few weeks ago at Homestead. I was happy with what we learned, so we’ve just got to go down there and see where we stack up. The thing about testing is you can be really good but show up for the race and nothing works the way you planned. So, hopefully we’ll be good this weekend and can have a car that we can be really racey with and come out in a good place in points.”

You finished top-10 at Martinsville earlier this year, so does that take some of the pressure off of having to finish well at Homestead?

“No, not really. You still can’t have a bad weekend. I mean, you look at Las Vegas and we were awful to start the race, didn’t earn any stage points and then come back to fight for the win and finish fourth. But, we’re still nine points out. Every point matters. We can’t afford to not have those points. It helps to know we ran well at Martinsville, but that’s a track with a lot of chaos, so you don’t want to put all your hope on that track where you ran well six or seven months ago. We’ve really got to go race by race and make the best out of what we’ve got each week.”

Erin Vogel Joins Round 3 Racing for Eastern Championship

Vogel to join Unser and Cook to field first all-female lineup in for R3R in WRL on board championship-leading entry

Joliet, Ill. (19 October 2022) – With an established record of success with strong female pilots in their driver lineups, Round 3 Racing (R3R) will field an all-female entry for the first time as the 2022 World Racing League powered by Hagerty Eastern Championship season heads to Sebring International Raceway on October 28-30th.

SRO GT World Challenge America driver Erin Vogel will join R3R, teaming with fellow Shift Up Now drivers Loni Unser and Sabré Cook in the No. 701 Cooper Tire Porsche Cayman. The Cooper Tire team will be the first all-female-driven lineup that R3R has fielded in WRL. The No. 701 Porsche currently leads the WRL Eastern Championship going into the Sebring weekend.

Vogel started in motorsports by taking her street car to local track events which evolved into competing at a professional level. In 2021, Vogel competed in the SRO GT World Challenge America series and she became the first female to win a race in the Pro-Am class globally. During that same season, Vogel and teammate Micheal Cooper earned three podiums and a pole award. The Vogel / Cooper duo just wrapped up the 2022 SRO GT World Challenge America season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with RealTime Racing, competing in an Acura NSX GT3.

“I’m really excited to be joining Round 3 Racing for the Sebring round of WRL,” said Vogel, a Shift Up Now driver (https://shiftupnow.com/). “The whole team has been so welcoming, and I’m particularly excited to work with Loni Unser and Sabré Cook, two women for whom I have enormous respect for as drivers and as leaders. I’m confident that we’re going to have a great weekend!”

Other Shift Up Now drivers on R3R’s lineup include Sarah Montgomery, competing in the No. 401 Hagerty BMW M4 GT4, and Hannah Grisham, racing the No. 605 Hagerty Drivers Club Porsche Boxster. Vogel marks the tenth Shift Up Now driver to team up with R3R since 2019, when the partnership began.

“I’ve been following Erin in SRO for a few years, and I have been a big fan,” said Brad McCall, owner of R3R. “When I met her at VIR this year we struck up an immediate friendship. She fits in perfectly with the family atmosphere at R3R and we all wanted to get her into one of our cars ASAP. An opportunity arose to have her join us for the WRL event at Sebring and we both (Erin and R3R) jumped at the chance. Not only are we excited to have Erin bring her professionalism and experience to R3R, but we’re thrilled that she will be a part of our all-female team in the No. 701 Porsche. Plus, Erin started off her intro to our team by asking if we’re going to wear Halloween costumes at Sebring. She’s going to fit in perfectly!”

The No. 701 team will aim to continue their podium momentum from Virginia International Raceway at Sebring later this month. The race weekend begins on Friday, October 28th, with practice and qualifying, followed by two days of action-packed racing. The Sebring event marks the first WRL event where tickets can be purchased (https://bit.ly/3TiFqKV).

Driver Quotes

“Homestead is a track that I am looking forward to finally racing on. It’s wide and allows you to race in multiple grooves throughout each run. We’ve been in the sim working on making sure I am ready for when we hit the track on Friday and I feel confident we can have a good run. Hopefully we can close the gap in points and have a shot to put ourselves into the championship race.” – Sam Mayer

“We’ve had some good runs in playoff races here in the past with our BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet. Homestead is such a unique track that really allows you to race all over and I know that Jason (Burdett, crew chief) and all the guys on this No. 7 team will give me a great car when we unload Friday. We know what is out there in front of us and what we need to do. This round started off on a strong note and hopefully we can keep that going and get ourselves even closer to locking into that final race at Phoenix.” – Justin Allgaier

“Being locked into the championship race is a huge weight off our shoulders as we head into Homestead. We’ve put a lot of work in at the sim for this week and I feel ready to get there this weekend. I know this High Rock Vodka Chevrolet is going to be fast this weekend, so we’re going to try and make another High Rock moment by getting them into victory lane.” – Josh Berry

“I love running at Homestead-Miami Speedway and really want a win there. We had it in 2021 before the incident in Turns 3 and 4, and I feel like this place owes me one. Our No. 9 team is on a roll, and we had a great car at Las Vegas last week. Right now, it’s all about getting into the Championship 4 and winning a championship.” – Noah Gragson

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCWTS

Hamlin ready to add another Homestead victory to his tally… Denny Hamlin moved from below the Playoff cutoff line to above it with a fifth-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. The Virginia-native has been one of the most consistent drivers in the Playoffs this season with four top-five finishes and six top-10s in seven races. Hamlin is a three-time winner at Homestead, most recently in June 2020.

Bell plans for another rebound… Christopher Bell was taken out in an early-race incident in Las Vegas and fell to eighth in the point standings, 23 points below the Playoff cutoff. Bell is looking for his first career win at Homestead. He scored a top-10 finish there in his Cup track debut in 2020.

Gibbs makes track debut… Ty Gibbs is going to mark off another first as the 20-year-old makes his track debut at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. After a top-five finish in Las Vegas, Gibbs is 25 points above the Xfinity Series Playoff cutoff line.

Jones desires to be one spot better at Homestead… Brandon Jones has earned back-to-back runner-up finishes at Homestead-Miami Speedway as he looks to score his second victory of the season to clinch a Championship 4 berth. After a top-10 run in Las Vegas, Jones is 27 points below the Playoff cutoff line heading into this weekend.

Double for Smith… Chandler Smith is in a good spot as he pursues his first Truck Series Championship 4 appearance, holding a 30-point advantage over the Playoff cutoff line coming into Homestead. Smith, who won in dominating fashion last season in Phoenix, will also be making his third and final scheduled start for Sam Hunt Racing in the No. 26 Toyota GR Supra in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Majeski breathes easy… Ty Majeski is the only driver going into the NASCAR Truck Series event at Homestead-Miami this weekend who is locked in to run for the title in Phoenix. The Bristol winner has one start at Homestead in each of the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Truck Series and has finished inside the top-10 finishers each time.

Looking for four… Toyota is looking to become the first manufacturer to have all four drivers in the Championship 4. Currently, Majeski is locked in with Chandler Smith 30 points above the Playoff cutoff, while Ben Rhodes, Christian Eckes, Stewart Friesen and John Hunter Nemechek are battling for the final spots with Zane Smith, who is currently 18 points above the cutline and Grant Enfinger, who is over 40 points below the cutoff.

Manufacturer title clinching… Toyota is looking to clinch its 13th manufacturer title in the Truck Series this weekend. Toyota’s teams have won 11 of the 21 races this season, as they look to clinch their eighth title in the last 10 seasons.

Ty Dillon to make 200th Cup career start at Homestead

Competing in his fifth full-time season in the NASCAR Cup Series, Ty Dillon is bound to achieve a milestone start. By taking the green flag in this weekend’s Playoff event at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the driver of the No. 42 Petty GMS Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will reach career start No. 200 in NASCAR’s premier series.

A native of Welcome, North Carolina, and the grandson of NASCAR championship-winning team owner Richard Childress, Dillon made his inaugural presence in the Cup Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway in August 2014. By then, he had campaigned in two Camping World Truck Series seasons for Richard Childress Racing, where he accumulated three victories and a runner-up result in the championship standings in 2013 during the two seasons, and was competing in his first full-time season in the Xfinity Series for RCR, where he claimed his first career victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July. Driving the No. 33 Chevrolet SS for RCR, Dillon started 29th and finished 25th in his series debut. He returned to the Cup circuit at Phoenix Raceway in November, where he finished 27th on the track.

In 2015, Dillon, who continued to run in the Xfinity Series on a full-time basis while part time in the Cup Series, qualified for his first Daytona 500 start in February after piloting the No. 33 RCR Chevrolet SS to a 16th-place result in the first Daytona Duel qualifying race and earning the final transfer spot to the main event. Starting 31st, Dillon finished 28th in his first 500 attempt after being involved in a late incident. He then competed in four additional Cup races in the No. 33 Chevrolet throughout the 2015 season, where he achieved his season-best result of 14th place at Michigan International Speedway in June.

The following season, Dillon remained as a full-time Xfinity competitor for RCR and as a part-time Cup Series competitor for two organizations. His first Cup start of the season was the 58th running of the Daytona 500, where he finished 25th while driving the No. 95 Chevrolet SS for Leavine Family Racing. The following race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Dillon served as an interim competitor for three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, who was recovering from injuries from a dune buggy accident in January. Driving the No. 14 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing in three races, Dillon recorded finishes of 17th, 15th and 25th at Atlanta, Phoenix and at Bristol, respectively. He also relieved for Stewart for the remainder of the Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway in May, where he finished sixth despite the points being awarded to Stewart since Stewart started the race. Along with his interim role at SHR, he made six additional starts in Leavine Family Racing’s No. 95 Chevrolet. His best results were a 20th-place run at Texas Motor Speedway in April and a 21st-place run at Pocono Raceway in June.

After three full-time seasons in the Xfinity Series, Dillon was promoted to the Cup Series in 2017 to drive the No. 13 Chevrolet SS for Germain Racing on a full-time basis. In Dillon’s first Cup season, he recorded eight top-15 results, 40 laps led and an average-finishing result of 20.7 throughout the 36-race schedule as he concluded the season in 24th place in the final standings and in third place in the Rookie-of-the-Year standings behind Erik Jones and Daniel Suarez. His best results throughout the season were a pair of 11th-place results at Talladega in October and at Phoenix in November.

Remaining at Germain Racing for a second full-time Cup season in 2018, Dillon achieved his first top-10 career result in NASCAR’s premier series after finishing sixth at Daytona in July. Throughout his sophomore campaign, he recorded four additional top-15 results and an average-finishing result of 24.1. When the final checkered flag of the 2018 season flew, he concluded the season in 27th place in the final standings.

Dillon commenced the 2019 Cup season by finishing in sixth place during the 61st running of the Daytona 500 in February. After finishing no higher than 15th over the next six races, he finished 15th at Bristol in April after winning the first stage in a photo finish over Clint Bowyer. Two races later, Dillon made his 100th Cup career start at Talladega in April, where he won the first stage before being shuffled back to 17th place in the final running order. He would then achieve his first top-five career finish (fourth place) at Daytona in July during a rain-shortened event. For the remainder of the season, he achieved an additional top 10 and four additional top-15 results before he concluded the season in 24th place in the final standings. Throughout his junior Cup season, he earned an average result of 20.6 and led a total of 14 laps.

Throughout the 2020 season, which marked his fourth season at Germain Racing, Dillon recorded an average-finishing result of 22.0 as he also achieved two results in the top 10 throughout the 36-race schedule. His lone highlight of the season was achieving a career-best third-place finish at Talladega in October following a two-lap shootout to the finish. In spite of the result, he settled back in 26th place in the final standings.

Two months prior to the conclusion of the 2020 season, Germain Racing announced plans to cease all operations in NASCAR at season’s end due to longtime sponsor GEICO not renewing with the team for the future, which left Dillon without a full-time ride for the 2021 season. A month prior to the 2021 season, he managed to secure a part-time ride with Gaunt Brothers Racing, where he attempted to qualify for the 63rd running of the Daytona 500. Prior to the 500, he competed in the newly-formed No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota Camry for the Busch Clash at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course in February, where he started 14th and finished 18th. Despite finishing sixth during the first of two Bluegreen Vacations Duel event at Daytona, Dillon did not qualify for the 500 and waited a week until he made his first Cup start with Gaunt Brothers Racing at the Daytona Road Course, where he finished 19th. His other Cup starts of the season with Gaunt Brothers Racing occurred at the Bristol Motor Speedway Dirt Course in April, Circuit of the Americas in May and at Road America in July, where he finished 26th, 21st and 26th, respectively.

After spending the 2021 season as a part-time competitor with starts across all three NASCAR national touring series, Dillon returned to the Cup Series as a full-time competitor, where he joined forces with the newly-merged Petty GMS Motorsports to pilot the No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. He commenced the season with an 11th-place result during the 64th running of the Daytona 500 followed by four additional top-20 results through the first six scheduled events before he collected his first top-10 result of the season at the Bristol Dirt Course in April, where he finished 10th. Despite earning an additional eight top-20 results and an average-finishing result of 21.7 throughout the 26-race regular-season stretch, Dillon did not qualify for the 2022 Cup Playoffs. Coming off five top-25 results during the previous seven Playoff events, including a 16th-place result at Texas Motor Speedway in September, he is currently ranked in 29th place in the driver’s standings.

Through 199 previous Cup starts, Dillon has achieved two top-five results, seven top-10 results, 76 laps led and an average-finishing result of 22.1. While he is set to depart Petty GMS Motorsports at the conclusion of the 2022 season, he is set to join Spire Motorsports as a full-time driver of the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the 2023 Cup Series season.

Dillon is scheduled to make his 200th Cup Series career start at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, October 23, with the event’s coverage to start at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
