Myatt Snider – No. 31 Tax Slayer Chevrolet Camaro SS Preview- Las Vegas Motor Speedway

News and Notes:

  • Practice; After the completion of technical inspection teams would take to the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) for a 20-minute practice session on Friday afternoon. Running 14 laps during his practice session, Myatt Snider would record a fastest lap of 31.425 at 171.838 mph on Lap-4 ranking him 27th fastest of the 38 cars entered for the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) Alsco Uniforms 302 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

– Starting Position; Directly after the 20-minute practice session teams would move into single-lap qualifying to determine the starting order for Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 302. Rolling off 23rd to make his qualifying effort Snider would come to pit lane to cool his engine as the No. 98 during his qualifying lap ahead of Snider would spin on the racetrack bringing out the caution. Once getting up to speed two competitors later Snider would record a lap of 30.886 at 174.836 placing the No. 31 TaxSlayer Chevrolet Camaro in the 23rd position.

– Las Vegas Motor Stats; Saturday’s NXS Alsco Uniforms 302 will mark Snider’s sixth start at LVMS in NXS competition. In his debut at LVMS in the Spring of 2020, Snider would start in the first position based on the qualifying matrix and would run in the Top-Ten the entire day until getting spun by the No. 9 towards the end of the second stage. Snider would regroup to salvage a 16thplace finish at the conclusion. In the fall of 2020, running for a different team Snider would start in the 32nd spot based on the qualifying matrix and would fight an ill handling car all day and would continue to make change after change. At the end of the 200-laps, Snider would score a Top-20 finish with 19th place.

The Spring of 2021, would see Snider once again start in the first position, but a mid-race stack up entering pit road would cause enough damage the front end of Snider’s car he would have to limp it around the remainder of the race to finish nine laps down in the 32nd spot. The Fall race would see Snider start in the 12th position work his way up to the eighth position in the final stage. Running the high line to gain ground Snider would make slight contact with the wall and would get out of shape finishing in the 15th position at the conclusion of the 200-lap race.

Earlier this year Snider would be required to run the same car the Jordan Anderson Racing (JAR) Bommarito Autosport team fielded the week prior at Auto Club Speedway that was damaged with a late race flat tire. After extensive repairs during the week things were just not quite the same. Starting in the 34th position Snider would salvage a 21st place finish. In five previous starts at LVMS, Snider holds an average finish of 20.6 with a best of 15th coming in the fall of 2021.

Last Fall, JAR Bommarito Autosport would make its debut in the NXS at LVMS fielding the No. 31 for Ty Dillon. Starting in the 28th position, Dillon would quickly make his way thru the field to lead the first ever laps (17) in JAR Bommarito Autosport Xfinity Series history. A late race pit stop error would put Dillon back on the restart and would run out of laps enroute to a eighth place finish.

– Chassis; JAR Bommarito Autosport will bring Chassis No. 106 to the track for Snider to compete with in the Alsco Uniforms 302 at LVMS. This weekend’s race will be the debut race for Chassis No. 106.

Mitch Guthrie Earns Inaugural California 300 UTV Victory After Tight Battle

After going toe-to-toe with Branden Sims all day long, it was Mitch Guthrie who managed to come out on top of the UTV World Championship desert race at the inaugural California 300 on Friday afternoon. After posting the second-fastest UTV qualifying time on Thursday, the PR-100 class racer and teammate Kellon Walch made it through an intense battle that never let up across four laps of competition in the Barstow desert, trading the lead on time with Sims throughout the day before unofficially beating him to the finish by nearly 10 minutes after extending their lead late.

“It was a long day, a tough day,” Guthrie said at the finish. “I’m sure everyone knows how this course is—it was brutal, and then to top it off, I had Branden on us the whole time, pushing us to go faster and faster. It was fun, though, and it was cool because we were able to set the pace up front, play that game, and see where we’d end up every lap. It ended up working out for us!”

After Bruce Binnquist took the top spot in qualifying and the classes evenly split the top four positions, the big question coming into the day was whether or not the PR-100 division could take overall top honors from the Pro Turbo division. But Sims would post the fastest time on the first lap for the PR-100s, followed closely by Turbo driver Ronnie Anderson—going for his second podium of the day after finishing second in the short course race—and Guthrie in second and third. Anderson would fall out of the race after two laps, opening the door for then-fourth place Justin Lambert and fifth place Sierra Romo to move up the order as the race continued.

Sims and Guthrie would continue to match pace for most of the day before Guthrie began to extend a gap on the final lap, and Romo worked her way up to the final overall podium spot after maintaining third in the PR-100 class for most of the race. Lambert would eventually take over the top spot in Turbo, but Mike Cafro would reel him in as the race went on to take the eventual class win in fourth overall. Pro Unlimited class winner Chris Blais and top Pro NA finisher Tyler Krepsz would also earn top 10 overall finishes at seventh and 10th, respectively.

BRASELTON, Georgia (October 14, 2022) – Weather that couldn’t be better and a pair of weekend-opening races that can be described the same way moved the Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) Fall Historics off to a fantastic start Friday at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Under sunny and clear skies with temperatures in the low 70s, the Sasco Sports International/American Challenge and Stoner Car Care Global GT sprint races combined to crown the weekend’s first four race winners ahead of two more days of on track competition Saturday and Sunday.

The Sasco Sports overall and Porsche class victory was secured by longtime HSR competitor Jack Lewis in his pristine Jack Lewis Enterprises 1974 No. 9 Porsche 911 RSR.

Friday’s other overall winner was local resident and Team Corvette racing legend Johnny O’Connell, driving his ex-GT World Challenge 2011 No. 3 Cadillac CTS/VR. O’Connell held off a field of competitive Porsches to win the Stoner Car Care Global GT race in the Bill Heifner-owned Cadillac “Johnny O” drove in its competition prime.

In the Sasco Sports race, Lewis was chased to the finish line by another HSR stalwart, Mike Banz, who took the checkered flag just three seconds back for second place in his Heritage Motorsports 1974 No. 13 Porsche 911 RSR.

Lewis and Banz were joined on the overall Sasco Sports podium by American division winner Jeff McKee in his popular 1964 No. 51 Ford Falcon prepared by Olthoff Racing.

Fourth overall went to International-class winner Joey Bojalad in his unique 1967 No. 12 Ginetta G12. Only 29 of the mid-engine Ginettas were produced, and Bojalad prepares and tunes his car – which is chassis No. 15 – with only his teammate Joe Serbin.

The overall top five and second in American went to Steve Cullman in his 1970 No. 74 Ford Mustang Boss 302, giving Olthoff Racing and Ford a sweep of the top-two American division finishing positions.

The Porsche podium was completed by Colin Dougherty in his 1988 No. 86 Porsche Turbo Cup series car prepared by DAS Sport that also finished an impressive sixth overall.

Other Sasco Sports podium players included Amber Stephenson, Steve Piantieri and Craig Joslin.

Stephenson secured second in International and eighth overall in the 2Girls Racing 1963 No. 52 Lotus Super 7.

Piantieri also cracked the overall top-10 in ninth which also locked down third place in the American class in his 1965 No. 95 Ford Mustang 2+2. Piantieri, the 2021 HSR Driver of the Year, is another always-fast HSR competitor that tunes and prepares his car with only the help of one or two hard-working teammates.

Joslin rounded out the International podium with a solid third-place finish in his 1983 No. 09 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI.

In Stoner Car Care Global GT, O’Connell held the lead from the pole for a flag-to-flag win ahead of the 2015 No. 96 Porsche 991 GT3 of Ben Johnston and third-place finisher Ryan Harrold in his Team Mean 2011 No. 110 Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car.

Saturday’s HSR Fall Historics race schedule begins with the weekend’s first WeatherTech Sprint rounds, which includes the first of two feature races for the Can-Am Mini Challenge, which has been a popular addition to this year’s schedule.

The day’s other feature races include the B.R.M. Chronographes Endurance Challenge one-hour race for Historic, Prototype and GT Modern (GTM) competitors at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

Saturday’s schedule concludes with the HSR Classic RS Cup race at 4:40 p.m. EDT that showcases Porsches similar to those raced in the original 1970’s International Race of Champions (IROC) series.

The Fall Historics is the final race before the eighth running of the HSR Classic Daytona presented by IMSA, the classic 24-hour race at Daytona International Speedway (DIS), November 2 – 6.

The HSR Classic Daytona is once again followed in 2021 by its “HSR Classics” sister event, the HSR Classic 12 Hour at Sebring, Pistons and Props, presented by the Alan Jay Automotive Network. The seventh-annual running of the HSR Classic Sebring 12 Hour closes out the 2022 HSR racing season on the legendary Sebring airport circuit, November 30 – December 4.

The HSR Classics events at Daytona and Sebring share the card each weekend, respectively, with the Daytona Historics and Sebring Historics races that will see all season-long HSR championships decided on two of the most legendary circuits in the country.

Making a Difference in the Lives of Children: The NASCAR Foundation Recognizes Four Finalists for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award

Daytona Beach, FL (October 14, 2022) – Four NASCAR fans dedicated to providing resources and support to children have been recognized by The NASCAR Foundation as finalists for the 12th annual Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award. Each volunteer represents an organization committed to improving the lives of children in racing communities across the country. The announcement was made on Fox Sports NASCAR Race Hub ahead of the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Sunday, Oct. 16 on NBC, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

“Our four finalists have made a measurable impact on improving the lives of children, an endeavor shared by Betty Jane France,” said Mike Helton, The NASCAR Foundation Chairman. “Each finalist has exemplified an unparalleled commitment to serving children in their communities and serve as an inspiration to many. We encourage our fans to learn more about our finalists’ stories and vote for this year’s award winner.”

The NASCAR Foundation’s Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award, named in honor of the foundation’s late founder and chairwoman Betty Jane France, recognizes NASCAR fans who volunteer for children’s causes in their local communities. Each finalist receives a minimum $25,000 donation for their organization with the overall winner receiving a $100,000 donation from The NASCAR Foundation to further their efforts.

The 12th annual Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award finalists include:

Dan Majetich of Tempe, Arizona, a co-founder and volunteer with Nick and Kelly Children’s Heart Fund of Arizona, an organization that assists Arizona families of children with congenital heart disease and acquired heart disease. After losing their sons, Nick and Kelly, to congenital heart defects, Dan and his wife, Margaret, founded the Nick and Kelly Children’s Heart Fund in 1985. Since then, Dan has become a leading advocate for families of children with heart disease, helping to provide financial assistance and hosting annual camps for children to experience activities that normally may not be accessible to children with heart defects.

Ralph Maccarone of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, a co-founder and volunteer of Who We Play For, a nationwide organization whose mission is to eliminate preventable sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in young people through affordable heart screenings. After losing his 15-year-old son to SCA, Ralph helped to co-found Who We Play For and over the last decade has dedicated his time to volunteering at heart screening events, fundraising and advocating for policy changes and serving as the chairman of the Board of Directors.

Tammy Garrett of Mobile, Alabama, a volunteer with Rapahope Children’s Retreat Foundation of Alabama, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities to families on the childhood cancer journey through recreational support programs. A volunteer for 17 years, Tammy is involved in all aspects of Rapahope, including involvement on the organization’s fundraising and planning committees. She is also a regular attendee of the Camp Week, Sibling Weekend, Teen Weekend and Family Day programs, often volunteering her time to cooking meals and helping campers learn to fish.

Tracy Williams of Jacksonville, Florida, a volunteer with the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports families that are tackling childhood cancer. For the past 17 years, Tracy has played an integral role in delivering support and raising funds for families affected by childhood cancer. A chairperson to the organization’s signature fundraising event, The Celebrity Golf Classic, Tracy has helped raise over $7 million dollars, coordinating program content and logistics to assure the event’s success including its transition to a virtual environment during the pandemic.

The overall winner of the $100,000 donation from The NASCAR Foundation will be determined by an online vote, which is open now. BLAKE HARRIS NAMED CREW CHIEF FOR ALEX BOWMAN AND THE NO. 48 ALLY RACING TEAM FOR 2023

CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 14, 2022) – Hendrick Motorsports has named Blake Harris as the crew chief for Alex Bowman and the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team for the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season.

In 2022, the 35-year-old Harris has led driver Michael McDowell to a career-best season with 12 top-10 finishes in 32 Cup Series starts. He will complete his first year as a crew chief with the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports team before joining Hendrick Motorsports in mid-November.

Harris will replace current No. 48 crew chief Greg Ives, who announced in August that he will step down from the role at the end of the season.

“Blake brings a tremendous amount of talent to our organization,” said Jeff Andrews, president and general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “In our conversations, it quickly became clear that he’s an excellent culture fit and believes in the way we approach competing and winning. He and Alex have already developed a relationship, so we’re excited to see how they grow together. Greg has assembled a winning team, and we believe Blake is the perfect person to continue that work.”

A native of Maypearl, Texas, Harris began driving race cars at age 11 and moved to North Carolina immediately after high school to pursue a career in NASCAR. At just 18 years old, he joined Evernham Motorsports (later Richard Petty Motorsports) in 2006, working in both the engine and chassis departments.

In 2010, Harris transitioned to Furniture Row Racing, where he became the car chief for drivers Kurt Busch (2013) and Martin Truex Jr. (2014-2018). He was an integral part of Furniture Row’s 2017 championship season when the No. 78 team won eight races and led 2,253 laps. In 2019, Harris followed Truex to Joe Gibbs Racing, where he served as car chief for the No. 19 team before accepting the crew chief role at Front Row Motorsports for 2022.

“The opportunity to work with a winning driver like Alex, an engaged sponsor like Ally and a championship team like Hendrick Motorsports is huge,” said Harris, who as a car chief won 29 races and made five Championship 4 playoff appearances. “When I moved to North Carolina in 2005, my goal was to become a crew chief for a top-caliber organization that could win races and compete for titles. I’m grateful for the chance to fulfill that dream and look forward to building something special with the No. 48 team.”

Bowman, 29, has driven for Hendrick Motorsports full-time since 2018, earning a playoff berth in each of his five seasons. The Tucson, Arizona, native, who is currently recovering from a concussion, has won seven races over the past four years, including five victories in the last two.

“I’m pumped about the chance to work with Blake,” Bowman said. “He’s a great fit for me, for our No. 48 group and for the way Hendrick Motorsports operates week in and week out. With Blake and everyone who supports this Ally Racing team, I know we can build on what Greg started and take this to the next level.”

The Alsco Uniforms 302 NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a hometown race for the 23-year-old racer as Herbst is a Las Vegas native, having grown up in the Entertainment Capital of the World. The Herbst name is well known in Vegas’ motorsports circles. Riley’s grandfather Jerry, uncles Tim and Ed, and father Troy, are all Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame inductees as championship-winning off-road racers. Now, the younger Herbst intends to keep the family’s motorsports legacy going in the NASCAR world behind the wheel of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR).

• The Alsco Uniforms 302 will mark Herbst’s seventh career Xfinity Series start at Las Vegas. He has two top-10 finishes at the track – a pair of ninth-place drives in September 2019 and February 2020. If Herbst scores another top-10 at Las Vegas in Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 302, he will record his 18th top-10 of 2022, which would be a career high. While you may not be racing for a championship, you still have four races left in the season. What is your mindset heading into these last few races?

“It’s disappointing to be knocked out of the playoffs, there’s no doubt about that. We did everything we could last weekend and were in a good spot to advance when we got into some trouble. With that said, you can’t dwell on the past. There are still four races left this season and four races to perform. This season has been one of growth and improvement, as both a team and driver. I think we can continue to show the field that this Monster Energy team is here to race and win.”

Your background is a little different than most of your competitors. While you come from a racing family, the Herbst name is well-known in off-road racing rather than on the NASCAR circuit. Talk about that transition from off-road racing to NASCAR, and if anything can be transferred between the two.

“I knew when I was young that I wanted to make racing a career. With my background, I loved off-road racing and that’s where I got started. But when I was 9, my dad sat me down and asked if this was what I really wanted to do. To be honest, off-road racing is an expensive hobby and hard to make a career out of, so I knew I had to seek out a different form of motorsports, and that’s when I turned my sights on NASCAR. The racing mindset exists across all motorsports, so there’s stuff that can cross over, but ultimately, they are so different.”

We’re heading to your hometown of Las Vegas, where the UFC headquarters is located. You’ll visit its facilities on Friday to meet some of the fighters and go through a workout. How excited are you?

“First off, I’m excited to be heading home, in general. To add the element of getting a training session with UFC legend Forrest Griffin is an added bonus. It’ll be cool to see how the fighters prepare for their matches versus how I train for a race. I’ve been working on my fitness training this year, so we’ll see if I can keep up with these superstar athletes. In addition, I’m just always excited to collaborate with different sports in Vegas. I’m an avid sports fan, so these experiences are genuinely just cool for me.”

PLAYOFFS ROUND OF 8: LAS VEGAS

With the NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) and NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) playoff fields now trimmed down to just eight remaining championship contenders, both series will head out west to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Race One of the Round of 8. While the 1.5-mile Nevada oval is no stranger to the post-season schedule, this season marks the first time that the track has hosted the opening race of the Playoffs Round of 8.

For the eight remaining playoff drivers, a win in the next three races will guarantee their team a spot in the Championship 4 and the opportunity to compete for the coveted championship title at Phoenix Raceway. Joining Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the Playoffs Round of 8 is the 1.5-mile oval of Homestead-Miami Speedway; with the .526-mile short track of Martinsville Speedway hosting the elimination race.

Chevrolet is heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway looking to make it a NCS season sweep at the track in Sunday’s South Point 400. NASCAR’s premier series first appearance of the season at the Nevada venue saw Alex Bowman and the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Camaro ZL1 team take the checkered flag, with the victory ultimately securing Bowman’s spot in the 2022 NCS playoff field. The triumph brought Chevrolet to a double-digit win count at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, giving the manufacturer its 10th all-time NCS win at the track.

Saturday’s NXS Alsco Uniforms 302 will mark the first of three opportunities for Chevrolet’s playoff contenders to advance to the Championship 4. In 30 NXS races held at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a Chevrolet-powered machine has made its way to victory lane a manufacturer-leading 15 times, including in the series’ debut at the track in March 1998 with a win recorded by Jeff Green. Chevrolet’s most recent NXS victory at the 1.5-mile Nevada oval came in September 2021 with JR Motorsports’ Josh Berry, who recorded just his second-career NXS win while filling in for an injured Michael Annett. One year later, Berry will return to the track as a playoff contender for the first time in his NXS career.

AND THEN THERE WERE EIGHT…

Entering the NASCAR Cup Series Round of 12 elimination race, Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott was the only playoff contender that had sealed his fate into the Round of 8 by virtue of a win. When the checkered flag flew at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, William Byron and Ross Chastain were able to maintain their positions above the cutline to give Chevrolet three drivers in the Round of 8.

With the playoff driver points standings restacked heading into the next round, Elliott and the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Camaro ZL1 retained the top spot with a 31-point buffer above the playoff cutline. First-time NCS playoff contender, Chastain, sits in the third position and 3-points above the cutline. Byron moves to the sixth position, but just three-points below the cutline.

It was a record weekend for Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger. A notable road course favorite, the 40-year-old California native was able to live up to the hype; grabbing the pole win and leading a race-high 25-laps en route to his fourth consecutive NASCAR Xfinity Series win at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course. The triumph also brought Allmendinger to a double-digit win count in NXS road course victories with 10, making him the first driver to accomplish that feat in series’ history. Adding in his two career NCS road course wins to that list, Allmendinger has recorded 12 career road course victories at the NASCAR national level.

Allmendinger’s victory at the Charlotte ROVAL brought Chevrolet its 22nd win in 29 NXS races this season, giving the Bowtie brand a winning percentage of 76 percent. 19 of those wins have been recorded in the past 21 races, an impressive run that started back with Noah Gragson’s win at Talladega Superspeedway in April. With now 499 all-time victories in the NXS, Chevrolet is on the brink of yet another milestone victory. 


CAMARO SS TAKES SIX SPOTS IN NXS ROUND OF 8

Six Chevrolet drivers makeup the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs Round of 8, all of which are vying for their chance to compete for their first career NXS driver championship title. Regaining the top spot of the drivers points standings is Noah Gragson and the No. 9 Camaro SS team. Recording a series-leading seven wins and 56 playoff points, Gragson holds a 34-point advantage over the playoff cutline.

The 2022 NXS Regular-Season Champion AJ Allmendinger sits in the second position in the standings and 22-points above the cutline. Joining Gragson and Allmendinger above the cutline is JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier, currently sitting in the fourth-position and 11-points above the cutline. First-time NXS playoff contenders Josh Berry, Austin Hill and Sam Mayer will kick-off the Round of 8 in the fifth-, sixth- and eighth-positions, respectively.

SANCHEZ CROWNED 2022 ARCA MENARDS SERIES CHAMPION

In last weekend’s ARCA Menards Series season finale at Toledo Speedway, Rev Racing’s Nick Sanchez was able to close out his first full-time season in the series with the 2022 ARCA Menards Series Championship title. The 21-year-old Florida native took his first full-time season with the series by storm, recording three victories, nine top-fives and 16 top-10s in 20 races. The triumph makes Sanchez the first Rev Racing driver to win a NASCAR or ARCA touring series championship since fellow Chevrolet driver Kyle Larson’s East Series Championship in 2012.

“Las Vegas Motor Speedway has always been one of my favorite tracks, so I’m looking forward to going there this weekend in the Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Off Road Chevrolet. Being able to turn through the bumps in Turn 1 is very important. In Turn 3, you can’t miss the entry, the track has gotten a lot of character over the last couple of years, and that is what makes it fun to drive on. You really have to challenge yourself to be disciplined on your marks. We learned a lot at Las Vegas in the Spring with the Next Gen car, so I’m curious to see how much it has changed since then.”

Larson on the mission for the rest of the season:

“I’m definitely bummed (to not be in Round of 8 for the driver championship), but we’re still in it for the owner’s championship. I feel Las Vegas (Motor Speedway) and Homestead (Miami-Speedway) are really good tracks for me and this No. 5 HendrickCars.com team. We’re going to work hard these next three races to hopefully contend for the owner’s title in Phoenix.”

Daniels on the team’s goals now:

“Our focus right now is certainly to maximize every week. Disappointed to be out of the driver championship hunt but our objective is always to maximize points and go for race wins. Having the opportunity still to compete for the owner’s championship is a big deal for us. So, a lot of motivation to go to try and get our car in the Championship 4 for the owner standings in Phoenix and still be able to compete for a championship. I think the team deserves it. Our company deserves it and would certainly love to give that to Mr. H. It would be really cool to have our car win the owner’s championship for him and one of our two cars still eligible for the drivers’ championship to go win that as well. That’s the goal and we’ll keep pushing.”

Elliott on the team’s key ingredient for success in the playoffs:

“Our key ingredient is just our team. I feel like I have a great team around me. I’ve always felt that way and they make me look a lot better than I am very, very, very often. I’m super appreciative of them, the way that they go about their business, the way they let me go about my business and let me be me. We just focus on the things that we can excel at and the things that make us good. That’s the best way for us to be successful, to focus on ourselves and not get consumed by the rest of it.”

Gustafson on heading back to Las Vegas Motor Speedway:

“This week our goal is to just kick off this round with a strong finish. If we do that, it will be an improvement on the opening races of the first two rounds. That’s what’s plagued us so far in these playoffs. The first time we went to Vegas, we tried something that we felt was good but as the year has gone on, we’ve realized it was in the wrong direction. We’re going back with what we feel is a stronger car and we’ve learned a lot as the season has progressed. I’m confident that we can go there and achieve what we need to.”

Byron on his journey to make the Round of 8:

“Everyone has their own path. My path was really accelerated in each series. When I got to Cup, it was a tremendous learning curve. I think once you get to the Cup Series it’s just a steep learning curve that nothing can prepare you for. Especially now, the car has made the series ultra-competitive. We’re the best of the best and it’s going to take everything you have to make it to the Championship 4. Making the Round of 8 was our goal at the start of the season, and anything short of that would have seemed like failure. We’re now focused on what we need to do to fight for a championship in Phoenix. It’s one race at a time.”

RUDY FUGLE, CREW CHIEF, NO. 24 RAPTORTOUGH.COM CAMARO ZL1

Fugle on his thoughts for this weekend at Las Vegas:

“This is another track that we’ve already raced at this year with the Next Gen car but so much has changed that there’s not much we can use from that race to prepare for this weekend. It will not only be hotter this time, but we’re also running a different tire than we did in the spring. It’s the same tire we ran at Texas (Motor Speedway) and Kansas (Speedway). It’s a bit softer, which means it will wear out more than before especially on a slick track. We’ve learned a lot about the car since the spring, especially at the most recent mile-and-a-half mile tracks which gives us some confidence for this weekend.”

TY DILLON, NO. 42 LUCKY 29 VODKA CAMARO ZL1

“I really like the racing Las Vegas Motor Speedway provides. The place is fast, but it allows us drivers to search around for grip as the run progresses. I feel like the track suits my driving style, and we’ve been lucky to have found some success there throughout the years. In the spring, we had a decently fast No. 42 Camaro, but our intermediate program has improved a lot since then, so I’m excited to see what we can make of our return this weekend.”

ERIK JONES, NO. 43 FOCUSFACTOR CAMARO ZL1

“Las Vegas is a track that was pretty good to us earlier this year as far as our speed. I thought we had probably a top three car but had some issues throughout the day that kept us further back in the field. We drove through the field a couple of times and ended up towards the front at the end. I made a mistake and got myself in the wall and got us a DNF at the end of the day. That was early in the season, and I think we’ve gotten our cars even better since then and I’ve learned a lot since then as a driver with this car and what it wants. I’m excited to get back to Las Vegas and see if we have similar speed and can have another solid run.”

Ives on returning to Las Vegas:

“It’s a weird feeling going to Las Vegas (Motor Speedway) this weekend given that we won with Alex (Bowman) in the spring. We can build off of the notes we have from the spring and successes at Kansas (Speedway). Noah (Gragson) has done a great job filling in for Alex and we will still have a shot on repeating our success this Sunday. Like we have done all year, we have to focus being clean on pit road, maximizing all of our opportunities, and not taking ourselves out of the race. When we do that, I don’t think there is a team on pit road that can beat us.”

What are your goals for the final four races of 2022?

“We want to win races. Pretty simple. That’s what we do. Anything less than winning all four races means there is room for improvement.”

How would you assess your year?

“It’s been good. Last weekend really hurt but when you look at the big picture we have a lot to be proud of at Trackhouse Racing and on the No. 99 team. Certainly we have to continue to work and continue to get better.”

How is Justin Marks’ management style different from others you have raced with in NASCAR?

“For me, he’s a race car driver; he’s an owner and he’s a very, very smart businessman. I think that the combination of those things makes him very successful at what he’s doing at Trackhouse Racing. Also, he thinks a lot outside of the box. He’s not concerned or scared of going right when everyone else is going left, so I really like that about him. He’s doing a great job with Trackhouse. He’s not just building a powerhouse in Trackhouse, but he’s building a brand. That’s exactly what he told me when Trackhouse was only on a piece of paper. It’s very nice to be involved with people that are putting their thoughts and ideas into reality.”

Can you win one for Kid Rock?

“Can you imagine the party if we win this race? I’m going to have to tell Kid Rock that we have to make it to Miami this next week so we can’t party too much. That would be so much fun if we could win in Vegas with Kid Rock.”
