Series Leader Lundqvist Rockets to Pole at WWTR

MADISON, Ill. (Friday, Aug. 19, 2022) – Linus Lundqvist’s car bobbled in the first turn of his two-lap qualifying run Friday afternoon at World Wide Technology Raceway, yet he still managed to win his sixth pole position of the 2022 Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season.

It’s been that kind of a year for the Swedish driver.

Championship leader Lundqvist turned a two-lap average speed of 160.259 mph in the No. 26 HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing car. Lundqvist leads second place Hunter McElrea by 95 points with four races remaining this season.

This was the second straight and seventh overall top starting spot this season for Lundqvist, who was awarded the No. 1 grid position based on entrant points for the previous race earlier this month at Nashville after qualifying was rained out. He won five consecutive poles on track earlier this season.

“We were good in the test here a couple of days ago,” Lundqvist said. “We just improved little by little. We knew that qualifying was going to be super tight.

“I knew that I was going to have to push to the limit and maybe a little bit beyond because I remember qualifying here last year, I was under the limit. So, I thought I’m going to have to change that up. It was a close call in (Turn) 1, but we managed to string it together with a good second lap. Super happy.”

Lundqvist will aim to extend his series lead for victories with his sixth win of 2022 during the 75-lap race Saturday afternoon on the 1.25-mile oval. Peacock Premium, INDYCAR Live! and the INDYCAR Radio Network will provide live coverage at 4:15 p.m. ET.

Benjamin Pedersen ensured a front-row lockout by HMD Motorsports by qualifying second at 160.124 in the No. 24 Global Racing Group with HMD car. Pedersen led practice earlier Friday at 160.662 and also led both sessions of an Indy Lights test Aug. 12 at WWTR.

Andretti Autosport took the next four spots in the lineup. Matthew Brabham qualified third at 159.572 in the No. 83 Andretti Autosport car, with rookie Christian Rasmussen fourth at 159.475 in the No. 28 Road to Indy/Stellrecht entry.

McElrea will start fifth in the No. 27 Andretti Autosport car after qualifying at 159.267. Sting Ray Robb qualified sixth at 159.215 in the No. 2 Sekady car.

5 Reasons You Should Never Ignore Truck Maintenance

Any truck owner will tell you that their vehicle is a significant investment. Not only do you have to worry about the initial purchase price, but you also have to budget for ongoing maintenance and repairs. However, some truck owners make the mistake of skimping on maintenance to save money. This can be a costly mistake, as neglecting even simple maintenance tasks can lead to big problems down the road. Here are five reasons why you should never ignore truck maintenance:

Costly Truck Downtime

Truck downtime is when a truck cannot be used for its intended purpose, whether due to repairs or simply because it is not in working order. When a truck is down, the owner cannot make money with it. This results in lost productivity and lost revenue. In addition, they may have to pay for storage and other fees while the truck is out of service. As a result, it is always worth investing in truck maintenance to avoid costly downtime.

Shorter Truck Lifespan

Over time, even the best-made trucks will start to show their age, but if you take care of your truck and keep up with regular maintenance, you can help extend its lifespan. One of the most important aspects of truck maintenance is keeping an eye on the engine. This is because the engine is responsible for powering the entire vehicle.

When engine parts start to wear down, it can affect the truck’s performance and cause other components to break down. That’s why it’s crucial to have a qualified mechanic regularly inspect your engine and perform any necessary repairs or replacements. By investing in truck maintenance from experts like Cargo Fleet, you can help ensure that your truck will run smoothly for years to come.

Safety Risk

When trucks are not properly maintained, they can become unsafe for the driver and other motorists on the road. Faulty brakes, bald tires, and broken headlights are a few ways a neglected truck can become a danger to those around it.

In addition, trucks that are not regularly serviced are more likely to break down, leaving the driver stranded on the side of the road. Not only is this inconvenient, but it can also be dangerous, especially if the driver is forced to change a tire in heavy traffic. Poorly maintained trucks also emit toxic greenhouse gasses, which pose health risks.

It Can Void Your Warranty

Many people are unaware that ignoring truck maintenance can void their warranty. Your truck’s warranty is a contract between you and the manufacturer that protects you from having to pay for certain repairs. You must adhere to the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule to keep your warranty valid.

This schedule will vary depending on your truck’s make and model, but it typically includes regular oil changes, tire rotations, and filter replacements. Ignoring these simple maintenance tasks can void your warranty, leaving you responsible for expensive repairs.

Expensive Repairs

You should never ignore truck maintenance because it can lead to more expensive repairs. When something goes wrong with a truck, the sooner it is fixed, the better. Ignoring maintenance issues will only worsen them, and the repairs will be more expensive.

For example, a small oil leak can cause severe engine damage if left unchecked. Similarly, a loose wheel nut might not seem like a big problem, but if it is not tightened, it could eventually work its way off, leading to a dangerous situation. While it may be tempting to push off truck maintenance when other things need your attention, doing so can end up costing you more in the long run. By taking maintenance seriously and investing in regular tune-ups and repairs, you can help ensure that your vehicle is always running at its best.

Power Ties Andretti at WWTR with 67th Career INDYCAR Pole

MADISON, Ill. (Friday, Aug. 19, 2022) – Will Power earned the 67th pole position of his storied INDYCAR SERIES career – tying the legendary Mario Andretti for the all-time series record – and captured the NTT P1 Award on Friday afternoon for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline at World Wide Technology Raceway.

NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship leader Power, from Australia, turned a two-lap average speed of 182.727 mph in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet to earn his fourth pole of the season. Power will earn an extra point for the NTT P1 Award, which could come in handy since he leads six-time series champion Scott Dixon by just six points with three races remaining.

“It’s just amazing,” Power said. “Amazing year so far. This is a big victory for me, to reach the 67 number and equal such a legend of the sport in Mario Andretti. I just can’t believe that I’m right there with Mario because there’s been no one like him.”

Saturday’s live coverage of the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline will begin at 6 p.m. ET. (USA Network, Peacock Premium and the INDYCAR Radio Network).

Fellow championship contender Marcus Ericsson will join Power on the front row after his qualifying run of 182.070 in the No. 8 Bryant Honda. Ericsson is third in points, 12 behind Power.

Two-time series champion and 2022 title contender Josef Newgarden will start third after his run of 181.629 in the No. 3 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet. Newgarden, who has won the last two INDYCAR SERIES races at World Wide Technology Raceway, is fourth in points, 22 behind Power.

Scott McLaughlin ensured the asymmetrical, 1.25-mile oval was a Penske playground with all three cars in the first two rows of the starting grid, as he qualified fourth at 181.406 in the No. 3 Odyssey Battery Team Penske Chevrolet.

Chip Ganassi Racing also had a strong day, putting three cars in the top six. Reigning series champion Alex Palou qualified fifth at 181.289 in the No. 10 American Legion Honda, while six-time series champion Dixon will start sixth after a qualifying run of 180.954 in the No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

Power’s pole wasn’t a surprise, given he already led the series with three poles entering this event and paced practice earlier today at 180.539. Power also won the NTT P1 Award for this race last year at 180.618.

Still, there was nothing routine about his qualifying run in the shadow of the famous Gateway Arch in St. Louis.

Power tried to keep the throttle pedal to the floor in Turns 3 and 4 during his last lap on the tricky oval, and he realized midway through that he needed to downshift to complete the corner without contact. Still, Power deftly kept the car off the SAFER Barrier and delivered the coveted 67th pole.

“I’m still shaking,” Power said. “There was nothing left on the table – let’s put it that way. The second lap, I was loose in (Turns) 1-2 and then tried to go again as much as I could in (Turns) 3-4.”

There was one incident during qualifying. Felix Rosenqvist spun exiting Turn 2, skillfully avoiding the SAFER Barrier and spinning slowly into the tire barrier on the inside of the track, with very light contact to the rear of the No. 7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet. Rosenqvist, who will start last in the 26-car field, was unhurt.

WILL POWER PUTS CHEVY ON POLE AT WORLD WIDE TECHNOLOGY RACEWAY

TIES MARIO ANDRETTI FOR MOST POLES IN NTT INDYCAR SERIES HISTORY

Team Penske’s Will Power, No. 12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet, had a historic run for the NTT Pole Award for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway by tying Mario Andretti for the most poles in NTT INDYCAR Series. Power now sits at 67 poles:

EARLIER THIS SEASON WILL POWER WAS SAYING OH, I DON’T THINK I’M GONNA GET THERE TO TIE MARIO. YOU’RE THERE. YOU’VE GOT NUMBER 67. AMAZING,

“Amazing. And I would never have ever been able to do this without Verizon and Penske just I’ve had such a fantastic career and they’ve given me such great opportunity and I cannot thank them enough and of course Chevrolet too because a lot of those polls were with the Chevy engine”

DID BEING THE CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER AND BEING ABLE TO LEARN OFF YOUR TWO TEAMMATES RON DID THAT HELP YOU GET NUMBER 67 TODAY,

“I think the only thing was to know the lap time to go for and I’m still kind of shaking because I tried to go wide open it 3 and 4. I it got half way around wide open then I knew it wasn’t gonna make it. So I downshifted and kind of floated out towards the wall but there was nothing left on the table. Put it that way on the second lap and it loosened in one and two and then try to go again as much as I could in three and four. But man just amazing, amazing year so far. And this is a this is a big victory in a way for me to reach the 67 number and equals such a legend of the sport and Mario Andretti so I just can’t believe that I’m right there with Mario because he’s a legend.”

AND IT’S ANOTHER POINT ADDED TO YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP., YOU ARE RUNNING FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS EVERY YEAR FOR A DECADE EXCEPT LAST YEAR, NOT SO MUCH IT YOU THINK YOU’D HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE AT THIS POINT IN YOUR CAREER TO GO FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP?

“I did I did because we had such potential and a lot of those years and worked very hard this year and really good mentally and I’ve got such a good group around me this year. I mean, I’m just I love the group, the crew that I have, they’re really good positive group and they’re great guys. So they’re as much to do with this championship as I am maybe more to do with I”

ON THE SUCCESS HE’S HAD THIS SEASON:

“This year. Yeah, it’s, it’s, it’s definitely something I worked on in the offseason, just understanding the potential that I had year after year is to try harness that and not let them go. And that’s what we’ve done. Which means at times I settled for a second position, which isn’t my favorite thing, but it is what you have to do to win a championship.”

YOU HAD A COUPLE OF WOW MOMENTS AND STILL GOT THE POLE:

“Yeah, it was. It was it was on the edge because I thought I’m gonna have to go wide open in three four, which I tried to get all the way to halfway through and then it roll bottomed and then I kind of floated wise so then quickly downshift. And then I went into one then had a big moment in the middle of one, but just kept after knowing that I’d done a six if I can repeat that. I couldn’t get a pole.

#60: Simon Pagenaud, Meyer Shank Racing Honda

Pataskala, Ohio (19 August 2022) – Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) is excited to announce that Helio Castroneves will return to the team’s IndyCar program for 2023 driving the No. 06 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda. Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud – No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda – make up MSR’s IndyCar stable for the 2023 NTT IndyCar Series season.

Castroneves first joined MSR for a six race campaign in the 2021 INDYCAR season. The first race of the season for MSR and Castroneves as a team – the 105th Running of the Indianapolis 500 – exceeded all expectations as Castroneves raced to a record-tying fourth Indianapolis 500 victory – exactly 12 years after his previous 500 win in 2009.

The win was also the first-ever IndyCar series victory for MSR with the Ohio-based team having made its series debut in 2017.

The 2021 Indianapolis 500 was MSR’s 38th NTT INDYCAR SERIES entry after the team ran a six race program in 2018 and ten races in 2020. The team went on to compete full-time in 2020 and expanded in 2021 to one full-time entry and the partial season campaign with Castroneves.

To date, Castroneves has 31 victories and 50 IndyCar pole positions on his resume – putting him in IndyCar’s top ten in history for most victories and pole positions. The 2023 IndyCar season will see Castroneves once again attempt to be the first driver in IndyCar history to claim a fifth Indianapolis 500 victory.

Petty GMS Race Preview: Watkins Glen International

Ty Dillon, No. 42 Allegiant Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

  • Dillon at The Glen: Ty Dillon will be making his fourth NASCAR Cup Series start at Watkins Glen International on Sunday driving the No. 42 Chevrolet for Petty GMS. In three previous Cup starts at the road course in Upstate New York, Dillon has completed every lap but one, and earned his best finish of 19th position in 2017.

In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Dillon boasts a very impressive resume of three top-10 finishes in four starts at The Glen. His best NXS finish at the track was a fifth place run in the 2015 race, and he has also led six laps at the facility.

  • Road Course Rep Sheet: Dillon has finished better than where he qualified in all but one of the road course races of the 2022 season. Highlighted by two top-20 finishes at COTA and Road America, the No. 42 team has shown flashes of brilliance, most notably during the race at Indianapolis in which he ran up inside the top-15 before getting taken out in a late race crash. Heading into Watkins Glen, the road course where Ty has the most Cup experience at, an opportunity for another solid run might be in the cards.
  • Allegiant – Together We Fly™: Allegiant will serve as primary partner on Dillon’s Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen International. From America’s favorite small cities to world-class destinations, Allegiant makes leisure travel affordable and convenient. Today, Allegiant’s fleet serves communities across the nation, with base airfares less than half the cost of the average domestic roundtrip ticket. For more information, visit us at Allegiant.com.
  • Richmond Rebound: The No. 42 Petty GMS team certainly turned some heads during the most recent Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway. After starting back in the 22nd position and overcoming early contact with another competitor, Ty Dillon managed to drive through the field and nearly worked his way into the top-10, passing some heavy hitters early on. During Stage three, Dillon would be hit with a drive-through penalty under green, and would drop down the running order. However, in an impressive showing of speed, the driver would be able to recover nicely with a 17th place result, marking his second top-20 finish in a row.
  • Watkins Glen Appearances: Race fans will have the opportunity to meet Ty Dillon on Sunday morning at the Team Chevy stage. Located in the Watkins Glen fan zone, Dillon will be participating in a Q&A session from 11:45 AM – 12:00 PM, so if you are attending the race, be sure to come on out and meet the driver of the No. 42 Chevrolet!
  • From the Drivers Seat: With momentum on your side after two impressive runs in a row, what makes you believe you can carry this into Watkins Glen?

“I personally enjoy road course racing and always see these types of tracks as an opportunity to put together some great runs at. Momentum is a real thing that can help serve as a big morale booster during this part of the season, and we are going to keep building on ours with everyone on my No. 42 Allegiant team.”

“Road courses have been a struggle for us this year for sure. The last few years I felt like I was decent at road courses and had been running okay, but with this new car, it’s a pretty big change. Just trying to figure out what the car wants, what it’s going to take to make it good and what makes me comfortable on the road courses. We’re still trying to learn that. I do like road courses, especially Watkins Glen. It’s probably my favorite road course of all the ones we go to. I’m looking forward to it and seeing what we can do and hopefully going and being competitive in out FOCUSfactor Chevy. It’s definitely been a big change with the Next Gen car on the road courses and how they handle. It’s really changed the game a lot. I’ve been trying to learn that and figure it out, but I do enjoy the road courses.”

Magnus Racing Goes for Value in Virginia with Last Minute Entry

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. (August 19, 2022) — Magnus Racing has decided to make a surprise entry into the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round at VIRginia International Raceway, August 26-28.

“We had all the crew and parts available to run another race, so why not,” said Team Somebody John Potter. “And in this period of high inflation, our dollars go a lot further in Danville than elsewhere, so it really seemed the perfect match.”

Though the No. 44 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 racing team originally announced only running the four endurance races of the year (Rolex 24 At Daytona, Twelve Hours of Sebring, Six Hours of the Glen, and Petit Le Mans), the fan-favorite effort missed being a part of the action, checked the budgets, and decided to return one race early. The team will get the biggest bang for their buck in traveling to Danville, Virginia, and perhaps even a podium at the beautiful Virginia International Raceway.

Just the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR and Motul Petit Le Mans are all that remain of the 12-race 2022 schedule. Magnus Racing kicked the year off in spectacular fashion with a second-place finish at the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The team finished sixth at the grueling Twelve Hours of Sebring, then survived a weather-delayed and penalty-filled post-race to earn a fifth-place finish at Watkins Glen International.

The race weekend in Danville, Virginia will allow the team and drivers John Potter and Andy Lally some additional track time to prepare for the final event of the year, Petit Le Mans. Spencer Pumpelly will have to get his additional preparation laps at another time. Though the team is eighth in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup GTD team standings, the field is incredibly tight, with fifth through 16th place being separated by a mere three points.

Magnus Racing will have two and a half hours of practice before a fifteen-minute qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR will be a mere two hours, 40 minutes, clocking in at the shortest race of the year for the No. 44 Aston Martin and her team. The race will air live on Sunday, August 28 starting at 2:00 PM Eastern on CNBC, and stream live on Peacock. For more information, visit imsa.com.

Parker Chase Returns to Watkins Glen on a Mission

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y.: With his 2022 ARCA Menards Series season winding down, road course ace Parker Chase returns to the circuit in the final road course race of the season hoping to contend for his first career ARCA victory in Friday night’s General Tire Delivers 100 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.

Returning to the seat of Venturini Motorsport’s No. 15 Vertical Bridge Toyota Camry, Chase is hoping his return to the Finger Lakes of New York offers an opportunity to rebound from Pocono Raceway, but also deliver a similar performance as his most recent road course race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course where he earned a career-best second-place finish.

“I’m glad to be back in ARCA competition and racing at a track that I’m familiar with,” said Chase.

“Every race is an opportunity and with only a handful of races left on my schedule this year, I’d love to keep progressing forward and showcase my road racing skills again with a trip to Victory Lane on Friday night.”

Chase has previous experience at the 2.450-mile road course earning a podium finish in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge division and hopes to carry that success to stock cars in the short 41-lap race on Friday night.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a road course, superspeedway, short track or wherever, any type of experience at a track is beneficial,” added Chase. “With my experience and success at Watkins Glen in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge – I am hoping it will all pay off towards the bigger picture.”

Watkins Glen will showcase Chase’s third career ARCA start on a road course and with an average finish of sixth at his two previous road courses at the Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway Road Couse and Mid-Ohio, Chase knows the layout of Watkins Glen proves to be one of the friendlier venues.

“From a road racing background, Watkins Glen is definitely one of the easier road courses,” Chase explained. “It has some unique characteristics and there are plenty of trouble spots if you don’t pay attention – but as far as the technical element, it’s forgiving which makes my job a little easier behind the wheel.

“I just need to capitalize on that when it counts the most on Friday.”

With just three scheduled races remaining on his Venturini Motorsports slate in 2022, Chase aims to add his name to the winning roster of drivers for the veteran team.

“I really want to build some consistency with my Venturini Motorsports team over these next couple of races. Road course racing is a lot of fun and I know my team and crew chief Kevin Reed will bring me a fast No. 15 Vertical Bridge Toyota Camry, but I’m eager to win.

“I believe I can win for these guys and I would love to do it at a track that is an absolute blast to race at.”

Despite completing in only six of the scheduled 12 races, Chase sits a respectable 16th in the championship standings, 129 points out of 10th.

In addition to Watkins Glen, Chase will pilot a Venturini Motorsports Toyota Camry at a variety of race tracks in 2022, including Kansas Speedway and Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in September.

Since 2020, Chase has 11 ARCA Menards Series starts to his credit with a career-best finish of second twice at Daytona International Speedway (Feb. 2022) and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (July 2022). Overall, he has earned three top-five and eight top-10 finishes and holds an average series finish of 9.6.
