Trois-Rivieres (Quebec, Canada), August 3rd, 2022 – It’s finally Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R) week, the most popular and best-known race on the NASCAR Pinty’s calendar, at least for Quebecers. This is the case for Jean-François Dumoulin, a native of Trois-Rivières, who is looking forward to representing the Mauricie region in the “The Rousseau Métal 60 laps presented by Julia Wine” event.

Jean-Francois Dumoulin unveiled a new partnership last week and the veteran is proud to count companies from our area among his partners. He will be driving the #04 car to show off the colours of his partners: Casino Grand Royal Wôlinak | Groupe Bellemare | Trois-Rivières Mitsubishi | Bernier Crépeau Chrysler Fiat | Omnifab.

“I’m always excited about the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières,” said Jean-Francois Dumoulin. “We have had a great car in the last few years and our goal is to win. We will definitely be on the podium!”

In 2019, Jean-Francois Dumoulin finished 3rd, in 2021 he was 2nd. Following the timeline, it’s time for him to sign a first victory, at home, on the streets of Trois-Rivières!

“We will have a very busy weekend as a team with four cars prepared by Dumoulin Competition. Racing alongside Jacques Villeneuve will also be an important moment for my brother and I. We have grown up watching the achievements of the Villeneuve family and we are very proud to prepare a car for this great driver. This is not the first time we have had four cars in the GP3R and I am confident that we will be fighting at the front.”

It’s been a year since Dumoulin last competed in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series, prioritizing team management of his eponymous race shop, Dumoulin Competition, also partly owned by his brother Louis-Philippe. “I’m eager to get back into the series, the field is very competitive, however this is a track I know like the back of my hand, so I’m looking forward to the challenge!”

This year, spectators will be back around the circuit to cheer on their favourite drivers. As a Trifluvian, Jean-Francois Dumoulin has the attention of the fans who will be cheering him on throughout the weekend.

“I would like to thank everyone who will come and watch us at home, the fans are exceptional at GP3R, I always have a lot of fun talking to them, especially those who have followed our evolution,” he concluded.

JACKSON BACK IN ACTION FOR GP3R

(August 3, 2022) Larry Jackson and the #84 O’Neil Electric, Dodge Racing team are back at it for their first race since the Toronto Indy! The NASCAR Pinty’s Series will be back at Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres this weekend for the Les 60 Tours Rousseau Metal and Jackson is amped up to be back on the road.

Jackson has learned a few things from the Indy that he and the team will use this weekend after their tough break with a mechanical failure. The #84 O’Neil Electric team has put in the hours and are confident that the car will be quick!

In previous years, Jackson has picked up a lot of positions at GP3R. In 2016 he gained nine spots during the race and ten spots in 2017 that led him to a 10th place finish. This was Jackson’s best finish at the track in six races and he is determined to beat his personal record again this weekend in Quebec!

Larry Jackson Quote:

“The whole team is looking forward to getting back to the track, we used the time to work on a few things and I think we’ve made some improvements to the car. We haven’t always qualified well, but always raced well at GP3R. You can’t help but feed off the passionate fans and they get right into the race weekend. We’ll be cautious with a big field and cars and concrete surrounding the track, but I’m optimistic we have a good day coming.

CHRISTOPHER BELL ON HAND FOR FIRST TEST OF DIRT SURFACE FOR C. BELL’S MICRO MANIA AT LI’L TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

  • $50,440 total purse for inaugural event slated for Sept. 21-24 in conjunction with the Sept. 24-25 Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 NASCAR Playoffs doubleheader weekend on the 1.5-mile asphalt oval
  • Bell along with two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch and son Brexton Busch are confirmed to compete

FORT WORTH, Texas (AUGUST 2, 2022) – NASCAR Cup Series star Christopher Bell was on-hand Aug. 2 at Li’l Texas Motor Speedway for a test by local micro sprint car racers to see how the new dirt surface of the one-fifth-mile (1/5-mile) is coming along in preparation for the July 21-24 C. Bell’s MICRO MANIA.

C. Bell’s MICRO MANIA will feature practice on Wednesday (Sept. 21), qualifying races Thursday and Friday (Sept. 22-23) and mains and finals Saturday (Sept. 24). Two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch and his son, 7-year-old Brexton Busch, are already confirmed to participate along with Bell. The overall purse is 50,440, highlighted by the $10,000-to-win Outlaw A-Main.

Micro Sprints are smaller versions of full-sized sprint cars with side-mounted 600cc motorcycle engines that can generate 140 horsepower with similar chassis and body styles to the larger versions.

“They’ve knocked it out of the park,” said Bell. “My first thoughts whenever I got here and checked it out was just how well it was put together. The removal of the asphalt and putting the dirt surface down … dirt track racing is so sensitive to the racing surface and how much water and preparation they put into it. They’ve definitely dotted their i’s and crossed their T’s.”

The 1/5-mile oval is undergoing a major facelift, with the track surface converted from asphalt to dirt. The August 2 test session was the first time race cars were on the new dirt surface.

The overall facility renovation will also include a scoreboard, PA system, frontstretch wall/catch fence, caution light system along with a Lil’ Hoss screen, pit area amenities and grandstand seating for 4,000 spectators.

The four-day micro sprint event is scheduled as the lead-up to Texas Motor Speedway’s NASCAR Playoffs doubleheader. The weekend will be highlighted by the NASCAR Xfinity Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 on Saturday, Sept. 24(2:30 p.m. CT on USA Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, PRN, and 95.9 The Ranch), and the NASCAR Cup Series Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 on Sunday, Sept. 25 (2:30 p.m. CT on USA Network, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90, PRN, and 95.9 The Ranch).

Cassill Takes Kaulig Racing Teammates to School; Lewis, Woodall Earn Championships at Cook Out Summer Shootout

Kaulig Racing's Landon Cassill celebrates after beating his teammates and team president in a school bus slobberknocker during Round 10 of the Cook Out Summer Shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway. (CMS photo)
  • Darren Krantz Jr. (Bandits), Kaeden Ballos (Outlaws), Carson Haslip (Young Lions) and Carson Brown (VP Racing Fuels Semi-Pro) also claim season-ending championship as 29th season concludes at Charlotte Motor Speedway
  • America’s Home for Racing kicks off its fall season of speed with the Circle K Monster Truck Bash at The Dirt Track at Charlotte on Saturday, Aug. 20; the speedway’s complete event schedule, ticket information and more is available at charlottemotorspeedway.com

CONCORD, NC (July 19, 2022) – On a night dedicated to honoring U.S. Legend Car and Bandolero champions at the Cook Out Summer Shootout, a group of former Legend racers turned NASCAR stars stole the show with a school bus slobberknocker for the ages.

Kaulig Racing drivers Daniel Hemric, Landon Cassill and Justin Haley, along with team president Chris Rice and guest driver Quentin Haley battled in a five-lap showdown that featured four-wide racing, three-wheeled slide jobs and a side-by-side photo finish. Ultimately, former Legend racer Cassill came out on top, edging Justin Haley to claim the ultimate bragging rights and a life-size trophy at the Cook Out Summer Shootout finale at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“It drove beautifully,” Cassill joked from victory lane. “It was on rails — had the left side planted.

“He’s (Justin Haley) a good driver. He was trying to take the gap where we he could. We made a little contact there, but I just kept in the gap.”

Hemric, who won the Legends Million – the largest purse ever for a U.S. Legend Car event – in 2010, slid through the infield grass on the race’s final circuit to finish third.

Lewis Leads the Way in Pro Division

In the Boston Reid & Co. Pro division, Landon Lewis capped a magical season with his first Cook Out Summer Shootout championship, holding off stars Jordan Black, Garrett Lowe and a host of other Pro division drivers to capture the season-long title and the champion’s belt.

On a night that saw Jensen Jorgensen claim his fifth win in just six Cook Out Summer Shootout events this season, Lewis held on for a third-place finish to claim the Boston Reid & Co. Pro division title.

“What a race,” Jorgensen said in victory lane. “I started sixth. I didn’t know if I could get it up there. I got it up there and got to mix it up with Ryan Mackintosh and Jordan Black, some of the best. This is it. This is the pinnacle of racing. This is huge.”

Woodall Offers Master Class with Third Consecutive Title

In the Masters division, the season-long battle for a championship came down to a Round 10 showdown between the top two points leaders, Robbie Woodall and Brandon McKenzie, who were separated by only two points entering the night.

The pair started the race in third and fifth place respectively in the 25-lap feature, with the title coming down to essentially who finished ahead of the other.

McKenzie raced his way around Woodall on lap 7, before Dwayne Holder spun McKenzie a lap later, bringing out the caution and giving Woodall the advantage with 17 circuits remaining. Woodall restarted in eighth place, while McKenzie started in 13th.

After a spin on the restart, McKenzie fell nearly a half a lap behind Woodall, his chances of a late-race miracle having seemingly faded. But a late caution with just four laps to go gave McKenzie fresh life.

On the ensuing restart, Woodall moved to third and McKenzie to fifth. While Canadian Kevin Foisy cruised to victory for his first win of the 2022 Cook Out Summer Shootout season, Woodall held on to for a third place finish and his third consecutive Cook Out Summer Shootout victory.

Lewis and Woodall’s ascension to the pinnacle of grassroots racing glory headlined a six-pack of champions who were crowned during Tuesday Cook Out Summer Shootout finale. Additional drivers who hoisted a 2022 Cook Out Summer Shootout champion’s belt include:

Darren Krantz Jr., Bandits

EVENT PREVIEW: Wright Motorsports Strives for Championship Points at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., (August 2, 2022) – Three races remain in the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and this weekend, Wright Motorsports heads to Road America with sights set intently on the GTD class points lead. With two wins achieved so far this season, the No. 16 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Ryan Hardwick and Jan Heylen has held firm on to second place in the point standings since round four at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This weekend’s sprint race, named the IMSA Fastlane SportsCar Weekend, will give the Porsche customer racing squad another opportunity to build on the points success of their two victories so far this season. The team will also have three cars onsite contesting in the next two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands.

“Road America is always a great road course to visit,” said team owner John Wright. “With the final stretch of the 2022 season in full swing, we tested here recently to prepare for this event with the goal to take back the championship points lead. The competition has been strong this year, but our consistency in execution both in and out of the car has always been one of our greatest strengths.”

Last season, the Wright Motorsports GTD effort earned a third-place podium finish at Road America, with drivers Patrick Long and Trent Hindman. The team started from second place and ran a clean race to earn a coveted podium spot, improving on the No. 16’s previous result of fifth place in 2020.

Stretching over four miles and with 14 turns around the wooded hills of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Road America sets the bar for action-delivering circuits. All five IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship classes compete in the annual event, with 37 entries set to compete in this weekend’s racing.

In addition to the previous test session the team was able to complete previously, the Wright Motorsports 1st Phorm Porsche will partake in the two series-wide practice sessions on Friday, August 5 before Ryan Hardwick qualifies for the team’s starting position on Saturday morning. For fans on site in Elkhart Lake, the race day festivities will kick off at 9:20 AM with the open grid fan walk, a one-hour stretch where fans can see the cars up close on pit lane before the race starts at 10:40 AM CT. The two-hour, 40-minute race will air live on Peacock, NBC Universal’s streaming service. For more event information, visit imsa.com.

DRIVER QUOTES

Ryan Hardwick
I have a lot of respect for Road America. While I love driving and racing here, this place has always been a bit of a mystery for me. I usually feel confident and quick here, but I’ve had mixed results at this track over the years. Looking to change that this weekend! Our team had a productive test here a few weeks back, so we are looking to unload strong and be in contention for a podium.

Jan Heylen
I’m looking forward to being back at Road America, a track that has a lot of overtaking opportunities, which always makes the race exciting. We’re coming into the later part of the season and there’s some added pressure to perform and keep us in the championship. I feel like we’re in a good place, coming off a good run at Lime Rock Park where Ryan had a good stint and the car had good pace. I feel confident going into Road America to give the team a strong points run.
Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands
After a brief time apart, the Porsche Carrera Cup North America Presented by the Cayman Islands returns to race in support of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship program, and the Wright Motorsport Porsches are back from their most recent race across our northern border. Varun Choksey (No. 13 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) closed out the Honda Indy Toronto race weekend with two top-five finishes and John Goetz (No. 57 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) placed second in both races, currently holding second place in the Am point standings. Hutton McKenna (No. 88 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) will also be reunited again with the team at a track he has previously shown strong pace. Race one, the first of two races in the weekend, will begin on Saturday, August 6 at 8:50 AM CT, followed by race two at 8:20 AM CT. The races will air live in their entirety on imsa.com/tvlive or Peacock.

Preparing for the Worst – What You Can Do to Prepare for Unexpected Expenses

Photo by micheile dot com on Unsplash

Unexpected expenses can quickly strain your budget and cause significant amounts of stress. Whether it is a medical emergency that requires you to look for caregiver agencies near me for professional support, a broken down car, or defunct appliances, having an emergency plan in place will help you return to your routine as soon as possible. The best ways to prepare for unexpected expenses include establishing lender relations, creating an emergency fund, and setting up preventive measures.

Lenders and Loans

Within a post-covid economy, an emergency fund is out of the realm of possibility for many families. Establishing relationships with lenders allows you to essentially borrow an emergency fund that lets you pay for it at your convenience.

Those with a lower credit rating also do not need to worry about getting protection. Lenders are willing to work with people of all financial statuses. Take some time to shop around and look for the best emergency loans for bad credit if that is your current situation.

Loans used for emergencies solve the issue in the short term and will be typically smaller sums in the hundreds or thousands. If you intend to go this route, build rapport with the lender beforehand to ensure you receive the best interest rates possible. Strong connections with lenders will result in loans that can get you out of a pinch without digging deep into debt.

Emergency Fund

An emergency fund is the most common method of emergency financial readiness. If you do not already have an emergency fund, you should consider creating one at soon as possible.

An emergency fund should cover more than just the cost of the immediate emergency. Some emergencies could result in many weeks or months of recovery time, and the fund should be flexible enough to account for that. For instance, if you’re caring for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s, researching options for memory care near me could become a necessary part of planning for unexpected long-term needs. A well-thought-out fund will cover the costs of a couple of months’ worth of expenses, including bills, food, and more.

When creating an emergency fund, consider treating it as an expense like a bill and slowly build it up throughout the years. A degree of discipline will be required to not meddle with said funds, but successful implementation will result in a strong security net that you can fall into should the need arise. You can look online for an emergency fund calculator to help you begin planning.

Preventive Measures

Preventive measures are a fantastic blanket method for emergency expense preparation. Utilizing preventive measures will create a course of action and maintain your existing property.

Preventive measures can be a multitude of things, including:

  • Insurance Plans for your animals, home, vehicles, and appliances
  • Regular Maintenance of cars, homes, and other valuable property
  • Staying up to date on bills and other expenses-
  • Building relations with people that benefit your needs
  • Creating plans and preparations in advance

This can also include coverage options like microwave warranties, which help protect against sudden appliance malfunctions.

Implementing prevention methods will save you a lot of money in the future. The downside is that the results of the time and money spent on these measures will not be apparent until such an emergency occurs.

Significant Takeaways

If there is anything you can learn from reading this article is that the best time to build a plan for unexpected expenses was yesterday, and the second-best time is now. Creating a safety net will provide peace of mind and less stress knowing that should the unfortunate event happen; you will be well prepared.

Era Motorsport Returns to Road America to Defend 2021 Win

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., (August 2, 2022) – This weekend Era Motorsport’s LMP2 sports car racing program returns to Road America, the site of the first win for drivers Dwight Merriman and Ryan Dalziel together as a sprint-race pairing in 2021. Facing even stronger competition this season, the race-winning duo will ardently fight to defend last year’s win in the IMSA Fastlane SportsCar Weekend on Sunday, August 7.

With five races completed this season, the crew and the drivers of the No. 18 Oreca LMP2 prototype remain vigilant to return to the top step on the podium and earn their first win of the 2022 season. With just two events remaining in this year’s championship endeavors, the pressure is on for each racing program in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship to accumulate the most points possible.

In 2021, Merriman and Dalziel closed out their first outing as a pair with an impressive victory, finishing 5.641 seconds ahead of the rest of the LMP2 class. This year, the team faces more stout competition, as the growth of motorsport continues to expand entry lists nationwide. Era Motorsport will be one of six teams competing in the LMP2 class on the 14-turn, 4.048-mile road course, and one of 37 entries contending in the overall race. Sunday’s race, the IMSA Fastlane SportsCar Weekend, will include all five IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship classes, each competing for the best overall result as well as top honors in class.

As is standard operating procedure, the field will have two joint practice sessions on Friday, August 5 before qualifying separately by class on Saturday morning. The 15-minute qualifying session will set the grid for Sunday’s race, the penultimate event of the 2022 season for the LMP2 class.

The field will have two hours and forty minutes to battle for position, beginning Sunday, August 7 at 10:40 AM U.S. Central time. The race at “America’s National Park of Speed” will air live in its entirety in the USA on Peacock, and fans outside of the United States can visit IMSA’s International Coverage page to find local listings.

DRIVER QUOTES

Dwight Merriman

We had such a strong run here at Road America last year, and it’s great to be back. The Era Motorsport prototype was incredibly strong here, and although the competition is pretty tough this year, we hope to again finish the Wisconsin race weekend on a high note. Our test here a couple of weeks ago went very well, and we feel we’ve gained some ground heading into the weekend.

Ryan Dalziel

Road America was a great track for us in 2021, with a pretty dominant win, but the LMP2-class competition is higher in 2022, so we also need to up our game. We had a good test at Road America earlier this year and we found some more speed in our No. 18 Era Motorsport Oreca. We need to turn our season around after a couple of difficult races, so we’re hoping Road America is good to us once again.

Cadillac Racing aims for another victory at Road America

Cadillac Racing Mid-Ohio 2022

Derani seeking repeat of 2021; a Cadillac DPi-V.R has won 2 of past 3 IMSA races

DETROIT (Aug. 2, 2022) – Pipo Derani had “a fantastic weekend; perfect to be honest” last August in co-driving the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R to victory at Road America.

The reigning IMSA champion would welcome a repeat this weekend in the IMSA Fastlane SportsCar Weekend on the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course in Wisconsin.

“Road America is a fantastic racetrack,” said Derani, who also won in a DPi in 2017. “Last year, it was a fantastic win for us starting from the pole after a wet qualifying. It was a race that we had pressure from the beginning to the end.”

Dry conditions with ambient temperatures pushing 90 degrees Fahrenheit are forecast for practice, qualifications and the 2-hour, 40-minute race Aug. 7 (11:40 a.m. ET on Peacock and IMSA Radio, noon on USA).

“It’s very fast, very technical as well and presents a big challenge for the teams to be able to do a perfect setup,” added Derani, who co-drove to third place in the most recent IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. “It hasn’t been an easy season for us, but hopefully in the last two races of the year we can show a little bit better results and get a win.”

Cadillac Racing has registered two podium finishes in each of the past two years at Road America, with Derani co-driving to third place after the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R qualified seventh in 2020, and Renger van der Zande co-driving to third place in 2021 and second in 2020.

Van der Zande and Sebastien Bourdais have hit their stride in the No. 01 V-Performance Academy Cadillac DPi-V.R, winning two of the past three races and placing third in the other.

“We’ve been running at the front, winning races, feeling strong,” Bourdais said. “Renger put on an incredible performance at Mosport (July 3) in really challenging conditions. He kind of went for it especially in traffic, which was really awesome. Looking forward to trying to repeat that at Road America.

“It’s a beautiful racetrack. I only managed to win there once in Champ Car days, but I have a lot of really good memories. It’s one of those places that is extremely rewarding if you get the lap right. It’s one of those cases where it feels really brilliant when you put a lap together, and hopefully we can do that in qualifying and have a great race day.”

Olivier Pla, who joined Derani in the Action Express Racing team in early June at Detroit, concurred.

“It is a high commitment track, but at the same time it’s very technical,” said Pla, who will make his fourth IMSA start at Road America. “It is a little bit bumpy and has some fast corners, which makes for a good show on TV and for the fans. During the racing, there will be a lot of overtaking and traffic management will be key.

“Two of my favorite corners are the Carousel, which is a long right hander that’s very fast and very long, and the famous Kink, which is flat, and you need to have a perfect line. I’m looking forward to this event. Last year, Action Express won the race. So, we have one target this time also.”

Cadillac Racing is tied for the lead in the Manufacturer Championship standings as it seeks its fourth title since the inception of the DPi class in 2017.

Aric Almirola, Driver of the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

Can you take anything from the longer, faster tracks like Fontana and Pocono and apply that to Michigan?

“Michigan is so much different than Fontana and Pocono, but what we can take away from those venues is that this team can find speed. We finished sixth at Fontana early in the year when we really didn’t have any notes on this new car. We had a lot of speed that day and I felt like we found some speed at Pocono, too.”

How crazy are the restarts at Michigan, and are they the best times to take advantage of opportunities to gain track position?

“I feel like restarts are definitely the time to gain or lose track position, so you have to be on offense and defense at the same time. Michigan is very wide and you want to be aggressive and go take spots away, but you can easily give up four or five spots that are really hard to get back once we get single file.”

Some tracks are very line-sensitive on restarts. Is Michigan one of them?

“Last year’s car certainly made Michigan very line-sensitive on restarts. I’m not sure what to expect yet with the NextGen car, but I assume it will be similar. The outside lane is usually the dominant lane. The cars in the inside lane usually lose sideforce – they lose the air on the side of their car – and they are very loose down there in turns one and two on the restart. The outside lane usually has the momentum and is the preferred lane going through (turns) one and two on the restarts.”

Do you feel confident heading to Michigan?

“Michigan is always a weird place for me because, in my mind, I feel like I run well there. I won a Truck race there years ago and, from that point forward, I just always loved going to Michigan. My wife’s family is from Michigan, so I go to Michigan with such a great attitude. We have had a few top-five cars at Michigan and didn’t execute and things didn’t go our way with the restarts and I didn’t get the result, so I’m confident this 10 team can bring us a fast car. I’m excited about going back. Going to Michigan, there’s always a lot of pride for the manufacturers. I’d love to go there and keep the trophy in Ford’s backyard.”
