Rosenqvist to make 50th IndyCar career start at GMR Grand Prix

Competing in his fourth full-time season in the NTT IndyCar Series, Felix Rosenqvist is within reach of a milestone start. By taking the green flag in this weekend’s GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, the driver of the No. 7 Arrow McLaren SP Dallara-Chevrolet will make his 50th career start in the IndyCar Series.

A native of Värnamo, Sweden, Rosenqvist, the 2015 European Formula 3 champion with an extensive competition and race-winning background across a variety of motorsports regions, made his inaugural presence in the IndyCar Series at the start of the 2019 season. By then, Rosenqvist, who was also coming off two strong seasons in Formula E, joined forces with Chip Ganassi Racing to replace Ed Jones and pilot the No. 10 Dallara-Honda.

Making his debut in the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in March, Rosenqvist notched a strong fourth-place result after starting third and leading 31 laps. During the following 11 scheduled events, he achieved his maiden pole at the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit in May and a total of seven top-10 results.

In late July, Rosenqvist earned his first IndyCar podium result at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course after finishing in second place behind teammate Scott Dixon. The following event at Pocono Raceway, however, he was involved in a harrowing opening lap accident after being clipped by Takuma Sato in the Tunnel Turn as his car dragged the catch fence and nearly flipped before coming to rest driver’s right-size up. Despite the wild ride, the driver emerged uninjured. Following the Pocono wreck, Rosenqvist managed to collect a second podium result of the season after finishing second at Portland International Raceway and a fifth-place result in the season-finale Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in September. By finishing sixth in the final standings, Rosenqvist captured the 2019 Rookie-of-the-Year title.

Remaining at Chip Ganassi Racing for the 2020 season, Rosenqvist rallied from a three-race slump to start the season by achieving his maiden IndyCar career victory in the second of a Road America doubleheader feature in July after overtaking Pato O’Ward with two laps remaining. Despite the win, Rosenqvist finished in the top 10 in four of the remaining 10 events to the season as he settled in 11th place in the final standings.

Following a two-year stint with Chip Ganassi Racing, Rosenqvist transitioned to Arrow McLaren SP to pilot the No. 7 Dallara-Chevrolet, where he replaced Oliver Askew and competed alongside his new teammate, Pato O’Ward. Through the first six events of the season, Rosenqvist struggled with consistency as he finished no higher than 12th, which occurred at the Streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, in April.

Then during the first of two Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix events at The Raceway at Bell Isle, Michigan, Rosenqvist was involved in another harrowing accident on Lap 24 of 70 after a locked throttle to his car sent the driver head-on into the tire barriers at full speed as the car came to a rest atop the barriers. Despite surviving the incident, Rosenqvist, who was taken to a downtown Detroit hospital for further evaluation, did not participate in the following two IndyCar events at Detroit and Road America as Oliver Askew and Kevin Magnussen took turns filling in the No. 7 Dallara-Chevrolet.

Making his return at Mid-Ohio, where he finished 23rd, Rosenqvist went on to finish in the top 10 twice during the final six events of the 2021 IndyCar season, with his best on-track result being sixth place at Portland International Raceway in September. When the season concluded at California’s Long Beach Street Circuit, Rosenqvist settled in 21st place in the final standings.

Remaining at Arrow McLaren SP for the 2022 season, Rosenqvist notched his second IndyCar career pole position at Texas Motor Speedway in March and has achieved a season-best result of 11th place at the Streets of Long Beach in April. He is currently ranked in 16th place in the drivers’ standings through the first four scheduled events.

Through 49 previous IndyCar starts, Rosenqvist has achieved one victory, two poles, three podiums, 110 laps led and an average-finishing result of 13.2.

Rosenqvist is scheduled to make his 50th NTT IndyCar Series career start in the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on Saturday, May 14, with coverage to occur at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.

Trois-Rivieres (Quebec, Canada), May 11, 2022. It has been a busy winter for the defending NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion who just wants to be back behind the wheel of his #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare car.

The NASCAR Pinty’s Series will be back in action at the banked 1/3 mile-paved oval Sunset Speedway on May 14. Located 40 minutes north of Toronto, the facility has often been the scene of exciting racing typical of such a short oval.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin enjoys this type of track, having won the QwickWick 125 in August 2020, then finishing third in the General Tire 125 in 2021. This will be a return to familiar territory for him, as he knows the Sunset Speedway layout and racing surface.

“I enjoy racing on this type of track. Our cars are very good, and we have continued to improve our equipment this winter. Sunset Speedway has a steep banking, we have a large entry of good cars for the race – all we need to put on a great show. I appreciate the environment, the track and the people there, and we are sure the weekend will be a lot of fun,” said the enthusiastic driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada Groupe Bellemare car.

The season is off to a solid start for Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, who can count on his key long-time partners. “The 2021 season marked the 10th year of our partnership with WeatherTech Canada,” said Dumoulin. “We started out with one-year contracts and built up the relationship from there. This partnership has always been close to my heart and has effectively been a form of launching pad for our team, along with our other main partners, such as Groupe Bellemare who has been with us since the beginning of our careers. We certainly have enjoyed a lot of success together.”

The “NTN Ultimate Bearing Experience 250” will take place on May 14 at 7:00pm. Fans are invited to meet the drivers before the start of the race at an autograph session scheduled from 5:40pm to 6:20pm.

Dumoulin Competition continues to cooperate in the development of the next generation of drivers.

On May 4, 2019, Dumoulin Competition announced its commitment to the next generation in motorsports with the “Dumoulin Compétition Partenaire de la relève” trophy, awarded annually to the Mini Sportsman Québec Series Champion. The team is also a partner in the Festidrag Development program, a new-talent development initiative led by Karine Albert and Martin D’Anjou.

Josh Bilicki, Spire Motorsports Support Ukraini Humanitarian Efforts at Kansas Speedway

CONCORD, N.C. (May 10, 2022) – Josh Bilicki will carry the colors of the Ukranian flag in this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway where the driver of Spire Motorsports No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will show his support for ongoing humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

Bilicki will carry in the insignia of the Ukranian American Coordinating Council (UACC) on the hood of the No. 77 Chevy while the phrase Slava Ukraini (Glory to Ukraine) will be featured across the machine’s door and upper-rear quarter panels. Ukranian cities Kharikiv, Kherson, Kyiv, Mariupol and Mykolaiv will also be incorporated throughout Bilicki’s paint scheme.

The UACC is a Ukrainian-American organization founded over 50 years ago by Ukrainian men and women who fought for freedom in World War II and immigrated to the United States, becoming citizens and supporters of both countries. Today, the UACC’s focus is to provide urgent help and support for Ukrainian civilian defense units by procuring and shipping helmets and body armor to Ukraine in bulk quantities.

“In 1991 when Ukraine became independent, many believed that their dreams had finally come to fruition, showing those in Ukraine the path to true democracy,” explained Oksana Tscherepenko, VP of the UACC. “Now, as we watch the occupiers threaten Ukraine’s right to freedom and democracy, it becomes obvious that this dream is not fully realized and our men, women, children and elderly are being killed just for protecting their fundamental rights to democracy. Many civilians are defending themselves and Ukraine with little training and without proper gear or protection.

“After receiving a license from the U.S. State Department, the UACC purchased gear and received incredibly generous donations from individuals, law enforcement agencies, and state national guards, allowing us to ship an abundance of ballistic gear including helmets, vests and plates. One hundred percent of that gear is delivered to civilians in Ukraine who need it the most.”

Bilicki has made six NCS starts for Spire Motorsports in 2022, earning a season-best 16th-place finish in the March 20 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 will mark the Menomonee Falls, Wis., native’s sixth start in NASCAR’s premier division at the 1.5-mile Kansas City, Kan., oval.

“As I prepare for this weekend’s race in Kansas, there are civilian men and women defending their freedom and lives on the other side of the world in Ukraine,” said Bilicki. “It’s easy for us to take our freedom for granted, which allows us to enjoy life, liberty and do what we love. The UACC’s mission is to provide support for Ukrainian civilian men and women, who often don’t have the equipment they need to protect themselves in their struggle for freedom. Our message this weekend is that we support the ongoing global humanitarian effort and provide hope to the men, women and children of Ukraine.”

The AdventHealth 400 from Kansas Speedway will be televised live on FS1 Sunday, May 15 beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The 13th of 36 races on the 2022 NCS schedule will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

What to Do During a Major Traffic Accident

Traffic accidents happen every day in the United States, and whether it’s your first or your fifth, they can be scary experiences. In the event of a major traffic accident, to ensure your safety and the safety of everyone involved, there are a few key things to remember at the time of the accident and in the days following. While it’s never easy to prepare for an accident, follow these steps to make any future experience less stressful for you and the people involved.

Find Out if Everyone is Okay

If you’re involved in a major traffic accident, the first thing to do is make sure everyone is okay. If this is a severe accident and significant damage to your car, also make sure that you check yourself for injuries. Once you have determined that you are unharmed, check whether all other drivers involved in the accident are okay. If anyone requires medical assistance, call 911 immediately.

A Philadelphia car accident lawyer can then guide you through reporting the crash, dealing with insurers, and protecting your rights. Early legal help often leads to stronger evidence collection and a more accurate assessment of possible compensation.

Get Yourself to Safety

Once you know that everyone is okay, relocate to a safe area that will decrease the chance of any further harm. Keep your hazard lights on, and if you own any, set up road flares or reflective emergency triangles. Whether you need to drive to the side of the road or into a nearby parking lot, getting out of traffic will ensure you and other motorists remain safe.

If your car is too damaged to drive, carefully exit and move as far away from traffic as possible.

Call 911

As soon as you and everyone else involved in the accident is safe, call 911 and notify them of the situation. Be as detailed as possible regarding what happened and your location so that the proper teams can be dispatched. If EMS is required, notify them of any injuries and direct them to those who need them most. When the police arrive, give them as much information on the accident as possible so they can create a thorough report.

Obtain a copy of the report from the responding officers to properly deal with insurance companies and establish the facts of the event. If you need a crash report to support an insurance claim, be sure to follow up and seek advice from an attorney for any concerns about the report’s accuracy or the legal implications.

Collect the Information and Document the Scene

The police will likely handle almost all transference of information and documentation, it is still important to have your own record of what happened. Take pictures of your entire car, as well as the vehicles of other drivers involved. This can help in the event of insurance claims, and if any drivers attempt to place any undue fault on you, you’ll have the personal evidence to refute their claims.

Be Proactive

While it’s important to manage the particulars of your accident in the moment, it’s also vital to take a proactive approach and think about any future issues that may arise. Notify your insurance company of your accident as soon as possible to avoid any liability for damage sustained to your car, and if you don’t already know one, research potential car accident lawyers. If your accident was in a big city like Philadelphia, car accident lawyers can be found through various online resources.

Car accidents are scary, but with the right preparation, you can gather yourself and handle them with ease. The most important thing to remember is that no matter what, your safety comes first.

Requirements to Notify the UK DVLA

Drivers must be sure to monitor their health and report any changes. It affects their ability to drive a vehicle. If the person does not execute this requirement, he faces heavy fines or prosecution. There may also be insurance issues. That is so essential to notify the UK DVLA to avoid possible problems in the future.

What circumstances should be considered?

Every driver must notify the DVLA. It is to confirm the factors and health conditions that may affect the driving quality. If you do not provide the necessary confirmations on time, you will have to pay hefty fines. DVLA notification can be sent by medical staff or the police if they notice any difficulties in driving a driver. Doctors have the right not to issue or cancel the medical certificate of a driver who can no longer fulfill his obligations.

After receiving all available information, the DVLA will decide on how to deal with the driver’s license. They can take it away or restrict its use. If the DVLA is not notified in time, the driver will have to pay heavy fines.

Do I need to contact a lawyer?

It is best to contact notary offices to protect your driver’s license. If you believe that your driver’s license was wrongfully taken away from you, you can get lawyers who will help solve the problem. Specialists can solve problems as soon as possible.

When should the DVLA be reported?

Reporting to the DVLA is mandatory in some cases to avoid driving problems. The main cases are:

  • there are medical diseases that do not allow you to keep your ability to drive a vehicle;
  • a disability has appeared that does not allow you to continue driving a car as it was before;
  • deteriorating health condition since obtaining a license to such an extent that it began to affect the ability to drive a car.

The Department of Driving and Licensing maintains a record of all drivers. The professionals working here are fully responsible for ensuring that drivers operate vehicles by all established standard norms and medical licenses. Otherwise, drivers are not allowed to carry out their professional activities, as this can lead to an emergency on the road.

Each driver can check the basic requirements for drivers on a particular open resource. The available information can then be compared with the data on the form to determine if the requirements for driving a vehicle are met.

Possible problems

Some pathological conditions can directly affect the ability of drivers to drive vehicles. For example, safe driving is not possible due to loss of consciousness, very poor eyesight, heart attacks, and other syndromes. Other pathological conditions prevent drivers from driving normally. That is why it is necessary to contact a medical institution in time to receive appropriate confirmation of your condition.

Timely inspection and correct diagnosis will help to avoid problems on the road. You will have to get rid of a driver’s license not in all cases. Only a medical examination carried out will help the DVLA make an appropriate decision about possible actions.

Environmental factors like heat can lead to sludge, varnish and carbon build-up in your engine. Castrol GTX Full Synthetic has been proven to dramatically reduce engine wear – 6X better than the industry standard.* It also cleans away old sludge* and protects against new sludge formation 1.3X better than required by the latest industry standard, giving you more control over today’s difficult driving conditions and miles more driving enjoyment.

Aric Almirola, Driver of the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

How would you assess the speed of your cars right now?

“The results have not shown it recently, but we have had top-10 runs every weekend. We got caught two laps down on pit road in Dover with at least an eighth-place car and, last weekend at Darlington, we had a top-10 car, but pit strategy is always tough there. The speed is there, the team is there, the pit crew has been on it. We continue to show speed no matter what the track configuration is, so I think we’re where we want to be. We just need to capitalize on those good days and stay out of trouble.”

Are you where you want to be in the playoff standings?

“I’m not paying a whole lot of attention to the point standings. We’re more focused on improving our car each weekend and throughout the weekend the best we can. We’re still going to tracks without notes, so you can’t put a lot of focus on points when we have so much to learn and build on.”

What are your thoughts when you head to Kansas?

“I’ve always enjoyed Kansas. I know that I did have a really bad accident there, but in my mind I just view that as a bad accident. It just happened at a place. It just so happened to be at Kansas. It could have happened anywhere. I don’t really put that on Kansas and so, every time I’ve been back since then, it’s never really been a thought that’s crossed my mind. I actually enjoy going to Kansas. I have friends in Kansas City who I enjoy spending time with that makes it even more enjoyable to be there and, on top of that, I love the racetrack. The racetrack is a really fun racetrack to run at for me and I’ve had a lot of success there and had a lot of really good runs there.”

Chandler Smith – No. 18 Charge Me Tundra TRD Pro Camping World Trucks Kansas Preview

Chandler Smith: Driver, No. 18 Charge Me Toyota

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Overview:
Event: Heart of America 200, Race 8 of 23, 134 Laps –30/30/74; 201 Miles
Location: Kansas Speedway in Kansas City (1.5-mile tri-oval)
Date/Broadcast: May 14, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR 90

Mr. Smith Heads to the Heart of America:
Chandler Smith and the No. 18 Charge Me team head to Kansas Speedway for Saturday’s Heart of America 200. Friday night will be Smith’s third start at Kansas in the Truck Series. He finished fifth in last year’s event after finishing 11th in his inaugural start at the at the 1.5-mile venue. The talented teenager has an average finish of 2.5 across two starts on mile-and-a-half tracks in the Truck Series in 2022, with a win at Las Vegas and a fourth-place finish at Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway. He combined to lead 56 laps in those two races.

After seven races Smith sits third in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regular season point standings, 32 tallies behind reigning series champion Ben Rhodes. Through the first seven events of the season Smith leads Truck Series regulars in average starting position (4.7), ranks second in average finish (9.3) third in average running position (8.324) and fourth in driver rating (100.5) and laps led (56). He has produced one win, three top-five and four top-10 finishes in his sophomore campaign.

The Georgia driver earned NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 and finished eighth in the championship standings after producing two victories, one pole, 213 laps led, six top-five and nine top-10 finishes in his first full-time season. He earned his first career Truck Series victory at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway in September and in the series finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) Raceway earned his first career pole and swept all three stages en route to his second victory.

In addition to his Truck Series schedule in 2022, Smith is competing in a three-race schedule with Sam Hunt Racing (SHR). Smith finished 38th in his series debut at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway after a mid-race wreck and finished 21st at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway. His final race with SHR will come Oct. 22 at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway.

Veteran crew chief Danny Stockman will once again call the shots for Smith and the No. 18 team in 2022. Stockman’s drivers have produced six victories at KBM across his first two seasons, including two with Smith behind the wheel in 2021. The veteran crew chief captured a Truck Series championship with Austin Dillon in 2011 and also won an Xfinity Series championship with Dillon in 2013. Stockman’s drivers have produced one top-five and three top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 9.3 across six Truck Series starts at Kansas. His best result was a fifth-place finish in last year’s race with Smith. In Xfinity Series action, his driver’s have complied three poles, three top-five and four top-five finishes, including runner-up finishes with Austin Dillon (2012) and Daniel Hemric (2018).

Charge Me will serve as the primary sponsor on the Smith’s No. 18 Tundra TRD Pro at Kansas Saturday. Charge Me was founded on the principle that the electric vehicle (EV) revolution will require robust infrastructure support at all levels. Safelite, the nation’s largest provider of vehicle glass repair, replacement and recalibration services will serve as an associate sponsor on the bedtop of Smith’s Toyota this week and for 16 races as a primary sponsor throughout the 2022 season.

Chandler Smith, Driver Q&A:

You’ve been strong on mile-and-a-half tracks this year with a win at Las Vegas and a near win at Atlanta. Are you looking forward to Kansas?
“Yeah, for sure. Just like I was telling my crew chief Danny Stockman, Kansas and Vegas are really similar. The lateral load differences, the banking and the actual shape of the track, make them really similar. With that being said, I’m really happy to get my Charge Me Tundra back out to Kansas.”

Is the Kansas race important one because it is also the elimination race in the Round of 10 of the Playoffs?
“Oh yeah, a thousand percent. Also, with that being said, last year we really weren’t that great at Kansas. So, kind of going back and re-baselining, because we were good there two years ago when I was in the 51 there. We were really good and had a truck capable of winning the race. Last year, we weren’t very good at all. So re-baselining, going back with kind of what we know worked before at Kansas combined with our Vegas package and hopefully, we can charge to the front.”

● Busch Light, a longtime supporter of farming communities, is bringing limited-edition “For the Farmers” cans to fans across the country. A portion of the proceeds from the release will benefit Farm Rescue, a non-profit that provides critical material aid to family farms. Available May 16 through July 3, consumers can purchase 24- or 30-pack cases of 12-ounce “For the Farmers” Busch Light cans. For each case sold during its limited run, Busch Light will donate $1 to Farm Rescue, up to a maximum of $100,000. Since its inception in 2005, Farm Rescue has helped nearly 800 family farms sustain operations in times of crisis, providing hands-on assistance to farm and ranch families that have experienced a major injury, illness or natural disaster. These efforts are made possible through a network of volunteers from across the United States. Busch has been a partner of Farm Rescue since early 2019.

● Dorothy was right. There’s no place like home. And for Harvick, home is an intermediate racetrack. With apologies to those in Harvick’s hometown of Bakersfield, California, the veteran racer has made the intermediate tracks that comprise the majority of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule his home. Of Harvick’s 58 career NASCAR Cup Series wins, 23 have come at intermediate-style racetracks. Kansas is a sweeping, D-shaped oval that has produced high speeds and daring, side-by-side racing since its debut in 2001. Harvick has competed at the track for every one of its Cup Series races – one of only three drivers to do so (Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman being the others) – and has amassed quite the history in his 32 career starts. Three wins, five second-place finishes, 11 top-threes, 12 top-fives, 19 top-10s and 949 laps led make Harvick one of the most successful drivers in Kansas’ relatively young history. His average start is 13.1, his average finish is 8.9 and he has a lap completion rate of 98.7 percent.

● Harvick’s recent history at Kansas amplifies his overall record at the 1.5-mile oval. Harvick has five straight top-10 finishes in his last five NASCAR Cup Series starts at Kansas. In his last four Kansas races, he has four consecutive top-fives. And in his last three Kansas races, Harvick has finished among the top-three, a run that includes two second-place finishes (May 2021 and October 2020).

● Harvick scored his first NASCAR Cup Series win at Kansas in the 2013 Hollywood Casino 400 with a massive 1.140-second margin over runner-up Kurt Busch. Harvick scored his next Kansas win in the 2016 Hollywood Casino 400 with another impressive performance, crossing the stripe 1.183 seconds ahead of next best Carl Edwards. Harvick’s most recent Kansas victory came in May 2018 when he beat Martin Truex, Jr., by .390 of a second.

● Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon lead the NASCAR Cup Series in wins at Kansas with three victories apiece. Only Harvick, Hamlin and Logano are still active, and only nine of the 16 Cup Series winners at Kansas are active. Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 marks the 33rd Cup Series race at Kansas.

● Harvick’s 12 top-fives at Kansas are the most among active drivers, as are his 19 top-10s, and both are by a wide margin. Next best in top-fives are Kyle Busch, Hamlin and Truex with nine top-fives apiece. And when it comes to top-10s, Truex is next best with 14 top-10s.

● No one has led more laps at Kansas than Harvick. His 949 laps led around the 1.5-mile oval are 146 more laps than Truex, his nearest pursuer in this category.

● Harvick also leads nearly every Loop Data category at Kansas: Average Finish of 7.8 (series-best); Average Running Position of 8.5 (series-best): Driver Rating of 109.0 (series-best); 649 Fastest Laps Run (series-best); 6,126 Laps in the Top-15 (82.3 percent, series-most) and 1,124 Quality Passes (series-most).

● Harvick is good at Kansas even outside of the NASCAR Cup Series. He has six top-fives across 11 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at the track, with the highlight being a victory in September 2006 when he beat Matt Kenseth for the win by .423 of a second. Kenseth retired from NASCAR upon the conclusion of the 2020 season and was recently named to the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Kevin Harvick, Driver of the No. 4 Busch Light #ForTheFarmers Ford Mustang

Your history at Kansas is impressive. Three wins, five second-place finishes, 11 top-threes, 12 top-fives, 19 top-10s and 949 laps led across 32 career NASCAR Cup Series starts. What makes you so good there?

“I think Kansas has been a great racetrack and, really from a driver’s standpoint, a fun racetrack because of the fact that it’s worn in so well. You can race at the top of the racetrack, which is the preferred groove as the tires wear out. It’s faster at the bottom of the racetrack on new tires. But as a driver, having options is something that is a lot of fun. With Atlanta having been repaved along with some of the other racetracks, Kansas has become one of the more unique racetracks because of the fact the asphalt and the shape of the racetrack is so driver-friendly, as far as where you can drive on the racetrack. You can literally drive from the wall to the apron all the way around the racetrack. So, it’s a fun racetrack. It’s been good to us and, hopefully, we can continue that trend on Sunday in our Busch Light #ForTheFarmers Ford Mustang.”

With races at intermediate tracks in Fontana, California, and Las Vegas already under your belt, do either of those races provide a level of expectation for Kansas?

“I think Vegas kind of leaned more toward what we’ll see at Kansas compared to some of the other racetracks. Kansas is just a cool racetrack that you can move around on from the top to the bottom. These cars race a lot better on the mile-and-a-halves than I think we all thought they would. I look for Kansas, especially with the cooler part of the year, to be a good race just because of what we’ve seen so far this season.”

How quickly are you developing the NextGen car? Specifically, how applicable are two races at the end of February/early March in helping you prepare for a race more than two months later?

“As you look at the way things are going, every week is an evolution. From where we were at California to where we’ll be at Kansas is going to be a pretty big step forward.”

By being able to move around on the track at Kansas, can you be more aggressive with these cars than you can at other tracks?

“In certain situations. I think from pushing, restarts, things like that, you can be pretty aggressive with them, but you also have to be pretty careful with them in certain spots, because it can get out from underneath you pretty quickly.”

Race strategy, particularly at Kansas, has come into play in recent races. While strategy is more in the realm of your crew chief, Rodney Childers, when it dictates a race outcome instead of sheer performance, do you have to sort of switch your mindset, perhaps by finding some patience even when you want to just go as hard as you can?

“These cars, in certain situations, have worn the tires a lot more than what they’ve done in the past. Kansas can be a high-wear racetrack just because of the way that the surface has aged, which is a great thing. So, I think for a lot of that, you’ll just have to see what the pit windows are and what the tire wear is when we go there. But it’s definitely a racey track. Those guys can see a lot more on the pit box than I can see in the car, so I usually just go with what they tell me and kind of roll from there.”
