Sheehan Heads to Road America in Good Shape After Strong Recovery at Mid Ohio

Lexington, OHIO – June 29, 2021 – Tom Sheehan and the LTK Mustang rebounded after a difficult start in Round 5 of the 2021 Trans Am TA2 Class Season at Mid Ohio, climbing an impressive 13 places by the checkered flag to claim 14 Championship points and retain his P8 position in the Drivers classification table. With Round 6 at Road America just around the corner, it puts him in good shape heading to the Midwest.

Qualifying at Mid Ohio was rain affected as Tom explained, “Qualifying was wet and dry. We ran slicks and it was the right call. We planned on staying on the track to put some heat in the car and push for the last eight minutes, but the black flag came out.”

Traffic subsequently put and end to Tom’s best lap and qualifying ended when he still had a bunch more in the car – leaving Tom with P15 and a time of 1:40:511.

When the race got underway Saturday lunchtime, it ultimately became a stop-start affair with the safety car appearing on several occasions. Contact on the first lap meant a spin for Tom and he slipped down to P25 before making a strong recovery to climb 13 places all the way to P12 by the finish.

“Not a stellar day but I’m grateful to be here in Mid Ohio,” he explained afterwards. “I chased all weekend. We have the car working great. The Mike Cope platform is solid and the car has some speed and I had a solid drive forward. Thanks to the Damon Racing crew. This is a tight team, we’re all contributing and the support we get from Mike and Travis really helps.”

The No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Damon Racing Ford Mustang will be in action again at the famous Wisconsin track as soon as 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 1 when the TA2 cars begin testing. Official practice is that afternoon 1:30 p.m. with qualifying on Friday, July 2 at 1:00 p.m. The race itself is on Saturday, July 3 at 4:45 p.m.

The Trans Am action at Road America forms part of a terrific program at the Elkhart Lake facility, with action across the card from the NASCAR Cup series JOCKEY as well as the NASCAR XFINITY Series. Road America is also one of a handful of road circuits in the world maintaining its original configuration being 4.048 miles in length with 14 turns, hence Saturday’s race is over just 25 laps. The track features many elevation changes, along with a long front stretch where speeds near 200mph can be achieved. One of the best known features of this course is a turn on the backside known as “the kink.”

Capstone Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 Team Perseveres to Finish Four-Hour Michelin Pilot Challenge Race in IMSA and Watkins Glen Debut

  • John Allen, Kris Wilson and Gary Ferrera Co-Drive No. 60 Capstone Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 to 17th Place in Competitive Grand Sports (GS) Field in IMSA and Watkins Glen International Debut
  • Capstone Supports University of Alabama College of Engineering Sports Car Racing Internship Program in 2021 and Beyond

WATKINS GLEN, New York (June 29, 2021) — Capstone Motorsports, a new-for-2021 sports car racing and motorsports company headquartered in Parker, Colorado, checked a major box on the team’s list of first year goals with a solid finish in its first visit to Watkins Glen and IMSA debut in Saturday’s four-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race.

Surviving a caution-plagued race that many of their more experienced competitors didn’t, John Allen, Kris Wilson and Gary Ferrera co-drove the No. 60 Capstone Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT4 to a 17th place Grand Sport (GS) class finish.

“We looked at 2019, which was the last four-hour here, and saw all the mayhem that happened in that race,” Wilson said. “We decided we would try to get as much experience as we possibly could and do as many laps as we could. We also wanted to try to finish on the lead lap, but we knew our strategy was probably going to keep us down a lap or two, which was OK. We got all the pit stops well done within reason and got both John and Gary lots of laps in a four-hour race.”

Capstone principal and driver John Allen enjoyed his new team’s first foray into the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series.

“I was very pleased with the first IMSA outing for Capstone Motorsports,” Allen said. “Most of our crew had never worked with one another but came together as if they had been a team for years. They executed flawlessly during pit stops while other seasoned veteran teams struggled on pit lane. Most importantly, we all had fun, everybody is safe, the car is unscathed and we learned a ton. We can’t wait for our next IMSA event.”

Starting driver Ferrera and Allen traded off driving shifts in the first half of the race.

“Gary had never gotten into a race in the middle of the race,” Wilson said. “Even though he started the race, everyone was like ‘why is he getting back in?’ It’s because he’s never done that before. That was the whole idea and point of this weekend. We wanted to learn as much as we could and get everybody experience doing different jobs.”

Ferrera partnered with Allen and Wilson for the first time in a Capstone driver lineup at The Glen, which joins the season-opening four-hour at Daytona International Speedway as the two longest races on the Pilot Challenge event schedule each year.

“It was my first race of 2021, it was good to get back in,” Ferrera said. “I hope to do a couple of more races with these guys this year, but it is really about preparing for next year. The team was great this weekend. No screw ups, I was super impressed and the interns were fantastic.”

The Glen four-hour brought Capstone’s growing University of Alabama College of Engineering Sports Car Racing Internship Program to the IMSA paddock for the first time. Capstone continues an evolution for Allen and the UA Engineering internship program which has been an at-track technical curriculum the last couple of years. Allen is a 1979 UA College of Engineering graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and was named in 2018 a UA Distinguished Engineering Fellow in acknowledgement of his vast professional, military and philanthropic achievements.

“The University of Alabama College of Engineering interns got thrown into key roles at The Glen and they stepped up and performed very well,” Allen said. “The interns are very much a part of what happens on track, and their efforts are extremely important to the outcome of every race. All in all, I think it was a great weekend and a great start for Capstone in this endurance format.”

About Capstone Motorsports: A professional sports car racing team headquartered in Parker, Colorado, Capstone Motorsports competes with the support of the University of Alabama College of Engineering, Class VI Partners, K3 Energizing Beverages, Long Game Financial, NuCalm, Orion Consult Group, Pocono Outdoor Adventure Tours and Dr. Sanjay Jatana.

Ford Performance NASCAR: Road America Advance

FORD PERFORMANCE NASCAR: ROAD AMERICA ADVANCE

The Fourth of July holiday weekend will feature a pair of races at Road America as the NASCAR XFINITY Series returns to the course for a 12th straight season while the NASCAR Cup Series competes there for the first time since 1956.

This Week’s Schedule:

Saturday, July 3 – NASCAR XFINITY Series, 2:30 p.m. ET (NBC)

Sunday, July 4 – NASCAR Cup Series, 2:30 p.m. ET (NBC)

RETURNING TO ROAD AMERICA

This is the first time the NASCAR Cup Series will race at Road America in 65 years when NASCAR Hall of Famer Tim Flock, driving a Mercury, won the inaugural event. Flock, who led the final 10 laps, beat Billy Myers (2nd in a Mercury) and Fireball Roberts (3rd in a Ford) as Ford Motor Company swept the top three positions and had five of the top seven finishers.

CINDRIC GOING FOR NXS REPEAT

Austin Cindric will be going for his second straight NASCAR XFINITY Series win at Road America after he started on the pole and won last year’s event. The race, which was red-flagged for lightning after Cindric led the first 10 laps, saw a pair of late cautions create a scenario that saw Cindric take the lead and then hold off AJ Allmendinger the final two laps to post his fourth win of the season and third career road course triumph. Cindric added to that total later in the year by winning on the Daytona road course.

FORD’S ACTIVE ROAD COURSE CUP WINNERS

There are three current drivers who have won a NASCAR Cup Series race on a road course with Ford. The most recent winner was Ryan Blaney, who captured the inaugural event at the Charlotte Roval in 2018. Kevin Harvick, who goes into this weekend with 23 career Ford victories in just over four years, got his first with the Blue Oval in 2017 when he won at Sonoma. Joey Logano scored his Cup victory at Watkins Glen International in 2015, which completed a weekend sweep after he won the NASCAR XFINITY Series race one day earlier.

OTHER FORD ROAD COURSE WINNERS

Besides the drivers mentioned above, Ford has four other competitors who have won on a road course in either the NASCAR Cup or NASCAR XFINITY Series. Ryan Newman (Watkins Glen NXS, 2005); Brad Keselowski (Watkins Glen NXS with Ford, 2013); Chris Buescher (Mid-Ohio NXS with Ford, 2014); and Michael McDowell (Road America NXS, 2016).

FORD ROAD COURSE WINS IN THE MODERN ERA (1972-Present)

Road America will represent the seventh different road course the NASCAR Cup Series has competed on in the modern era, joining Riverside International Raceway (1958-88), Watkins Glen International (1957-Present), Sonoma Raceway (1989-Present), Charlotte Motor Speedway (2018-Present), Daytona International Speedway (2020-Present) and Circuit of the Americas (2021). One more will join that list later this year when the circuit races for the first time on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (Aug. 15). Ford has produced a total of 19 combined wins at those facilities from 1972-Present. Mark Martin leads the way with four victories, including three straight years at Watkins Glen, while Ricky Rudd, Marcos Ambrose and Geoffrey Bodine have two each.

FORD NASCAR XFINITY SERIES WINNERS AT ROAD AMERICA
2010 – Carl Edwards
2013 – A.J. Allmendinger
2020 – Austin Cindric

RAPHAEL LESSARD WILL SUB FOR INJURED DONALD THEETGE AT SUNSET

(June 29, 2021) Preparations are in high gear and optimism was high for the crew at Wight Motorsports Inc (WMI) and driver Donald Theetge for the start of the 2021 NASCAR Pinty’s Series when Theetge suffered an injury setback. Theetge sustained two broken knuckles on his right hand. The prognosis for his return to racing is very positive, however he will be forced to sit out the first race of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series scheduled for August 1st at Sunset Speedway near Innisfil, ON.

Following consultations with David Wight the principal at (WMI) Theetge reached out to Raphael Lessard of St-Joseph-de-Beauce, QC. The soon to be 20-year-old rising star will drive the #80 Theetge Chevrolet/Buick/GMC/Cadillac Chevy Camaro to begin the season at Sunset Speedway. While missing the season opening event is very disappointing, Theetge also realizes this is the best solution for the team.

“I talked with David, and we agreed the #80 Theetge Chevrolet/Buick/GMC/Cadillac Chevy Camaro has to be on track. We know that the car is fast, and the guys have been working hard to make it even better. I’m confident Raphael can do the job and have the car up front” said Theetge.

Raphael Lessard has raced predominantly in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series the last three seasons. Lessard made his Pinty’s Series debut in 2019 at the Autodrome Chaudière scoring the victory in his debut event and is thrilled to be returning to the series.

“I was not expecting the call but I’m super happy. I was wondering about whether I might get the chance to do at least one Pinty’s Series race this season. I must thank Donald for this opportunity. The Wight Motorsports guys are a young team, but they’ve all been around for a long time, and I think we have a really good opportunity to do well” stated Lessard.

WMI Team Principal David Wight also believes Lessard will be a good fit for the #80 Theetge Chevrolet/Buick/GMC/Cadillac Chevy Camaro team. “Anyone who’s watch Raphael race can see his talent. After talking with him and hearing his enthusiasm, seeing the improvements we made to the car, I feel very good that we’re going to be very competitive,” said Wight.

While Theetge won’t be driving the #80 Theetge Chevrolet/Buick/GMC/Cadillac Chevy Camaro at Sunset he will be there to offer whatever help he can. “I’m going to be right there and doing whatever I can. I’m working closely with my doctor and staying positive that I can be back behind the wheel soon” said Theetge.

The 2021 NASCAR Pinty’s Series will consist of 11 total races in Ontario and Quebec. Competition begins Sunday August 1st at Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ontario. All NASCAR Pinty’s Series races will once again be broadcast on TSN and RDS.

Lure Lock Joins Gaunt Brothers Racing for Road America

Ty Dillon To Drive No. 96 Lure Lock Toyota Camry in NASCAR Cup Series Race

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 29, 2021) – Lure Lock, an innovator and new leader in the fishing tackle storage category, has joined Gaunt Brothers Racing and driver Ty Dillon for the NASCAR Cup Series race weekend July 3-4 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Lure Lock, which can be found online at LureLock.com and is available at such top retailers as Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s, will serve as the primary sponsor for Dillon and the No. 96 Toyota Camry at the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course. The partnership serves as a home state race for Lure Lock, which is based in Ettrick, Wisconsin, approximately 200 miles west of Road America.

“Wisconsin is one of the top fishing destinations in the United States and it’s home to Lure Lock,” said John Skrabo, president of Tak Logic, the parent company of Lure Lock. “We’ve built the best tackle box on the market and our cutting-edge Tak Logic technology protects lures and keeps them in a smart and organized system. Promoting our product in our home state of Wisconsin during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Road America made a lot of sense, and that’s why we partnered with Ty Dillon and Gaunt Brothers Racing.”

Dillon is an ardent outdoorsman. In fact, Skrabo has known him for years, with Skrabo taking a 9-year-old Dillon duck hunting in Arkansas with Dillon’s grandfather, NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Childress. Now 29, Dillon is a long-standing ambassador for Bass Pro Shops who often fishes on the lakes, streams and ponds near the tracks where he races.

“Ty Dillon is a perfect fit for our brand,” Skrabo said. “He’s an avid outdoorsman, comes from a great family, and is a heck of a competitor.”

Road America will mark Dillon’s 166th career NASCAR Cup Series start and his fourth with Gaunt Brothers Racing.

“I love the outdoors as much as I love racing,” Dillon said. “There’s no better way to hit the reset button than by getting out on a lake, casting a lure and reeling in the kind of fish you tell stories about. But the quickest way to get that moment off on the wrong foot is to knock your tackle box over and spill your lures all over the place. Lure Lock fixes that. It’s ingenious. Once you get it, you’ll never store your lures in anything else.”

Fishing is fun and rewarding, unless more time is spent fishing for lures than actual fish. The Lure Lock system is both simple and ingenious. Its revolutionary tackle box built with Tak Logic technology protects prized lures and keeps hooks sharp in a smart and organized system.

The game changer is Tak Logic technology. The proprietary gel in the bottom of the trays secures tackle – even when the box is turned upside down and shaken. Beyond the convenience factor, the liner holds lures in place so its hooks don’t get dull by rubbing on the bottom of the box or on the lure itself. This keep the hooks sharp, which helps land more fish. It also reduces the need to open up the first-aid kit and treat a sliced finger while searching for a specific lure. Another great feature of the gel lining is that it’s easily cleaned with dish soap and warm water. As soon as it’s dry, it performs like new.

Augmenting the Tak Logic technology is Lure Lock’s locker system. No matter what kind of fishing an angler likes to do, they can organize their tackle by specific species or the species they wish to target on a particular day.

Constructed with durable ABS plastic, the locker can hold up to five Lure Lock boxes. It’s available in three sizes, allowing anglers to customize their lure selection for a particular outing and eliminating the need to bring too much fishing tackle. This is especially helpful for those expeditions involving a canoe or kayak.

Additionally, Lure Lock tackle boxes are designed to hang easily on a wall or pegboard, keeping valuable lures off the ground and at eye level when not in use.

“Organization and efficiency are the building blocks for success, and smart preparation beforehand – be it in racing or to catch that prized fish – gives you an upperhand and makes the whole experience more enjoyable,” said Marty Gaunt, President, Gaunt Brothers Racing. “It’s impressive how Lure Lock took something as simple as a tackle box and made it incredibly efficient and a must-have for anglers. It’s a story and a product we’re proud to promote this weekend at Road America.”

The No. 96 Lure Lock Toyota Camry will turn its wheels for the first time on Saturday at Road America during a 50-minute practice session from 12:35 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. EDT. It returns to the track on Sunday for qualifying and the race. Qualifying takes place at 11:05 a.m. and the Jockey Made in America 250 presented by Kwik Trip gets underway at 2:30 p.m. with live coverage on NBC and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

As Used Car Prices Climb, BBB Offers Consumer Buying Tips For Used Vehicle

(Roanoke, Virginia) June 29, 2021 – Besides a home, a car is one of the most expensive things consumers will buy. Buying a used car can be a smart financial decision, especially if your budget is limited. However, failing to do your homework before you buy can put you in a disastrous or even dangerous situation. Better Business Bureau (BBB) Serving Western Virginia offers consumers a few tips to keep in mind when purchasing a used car.

Nationally, BBB receives thousands of complaints about used car dealers every year. In western Virginia, they were among the top ten most complained-about industries in 2020. Consumers reported 49 complaints of used cars that broke down soon after purchase, problems with warranties, and customer service conflicts.

For those in the market for a used car, be aware they’re more expensive than normal. Shortages related to the pandemic have increased prices, meaning the market is good for sellers but not so much for buyers. According to the National Automobile Dealers Association, the average price of a used car increased by 12.5% between last year and this year, from $21,020 in February 2020 to $23,643 in February 2021. Data from Cars.com shows new car inventory decreased by more than 15% between February and April. As a result, new car inventory fell and consumers turned to used cars — putting a strain on that supply and driving up prices, according to Cars.com.

“Now more than ever, it’s important for buyers to do their research on make and model for fair pricing,” says Julie Wheeler, President and CEO of BBB Serving Western Virginia. “Spend the money to get a trustworthy, third-party mechanic to inspect the used vehicle. Make sure you understand ‘as-is’ offers. Once you sign papers and drive away the seller has no more responsibility,” says Wheeler.

BBB offers consumers advice to help buyers navigate the current market.

  • Research the business and owners carefully before signing a contract or paying any money. Check the company’s BBB Business Profile at BBB.org, where you also can find a list of BBB Accredited Businesses.
  • Set a budget and stick to it. Consider the payment you can afford, as well as what you can comfortably pay in cash. In most cases, your monthly car payment should not be more than 20 percent of your monthly after-tax income.
  • Compare the listed price with similar cars trusted online sources to see whether the price is in line with the value of similar cars. In the same way, research the value of any trade-in.
  • Check the car’s history. Research the reliability of the model you are interested in and whether it’s been subject to any recalls. Ask for a vehicle history report to see whether it’s been in a wreck or had significant mechanical problems. Consider having a mechanic you trust inspect the car before you agree to buy it.
  • Understand any warranties. Know what is covered and for how long.
  • Transfer registration and title before closing the deal. Make sure the seller transfers the registration and title to your name.
  • Consult with FTC’s Used Vehicle Buyer’s Guide for more tips.
  • Check BBB.org before purchasing a new or used car, it’s important to research a trustworthy, third-party auto repair shop for a mechanic to do an inspection of the vehicle.

F1 Success: Top Three Tips

Think of it as a business

If you are a fan of Formula 1, it is easy to lose sight of the fact that you are there to make a profit, not to influence the outcome. The key is to bet with your head rather than your heart, but that can be easier said than done.

To keep things objective and fact-based, many professional gamblers refrain from betting on their teams. This is an excellent idea, especially once you get started. To succeed, you’ll have to trust your facts, regardless of what they are telling you. The whole weekend is a part of that as well.

Many different external factors can affect the Formula 1 world, it’s not just about the weather. Take note of the little details that other people might not notice or pay attention to. You must sniff out the factors that can influence an outcome, such as personal issues, penalties, and the stress of camp.

Understand Your Season

Statistically, the first half of the season has more changes than the second.Teams use this time to iron out creases and make necessary changes to comply with new rules and regulations.Take advantage of this time to improve your odds.

Especially at the beginning of the season, focus on the longer shots, as teams need time to adjust. 7 different drivers won the first 7 races in 2012.You need to take advantage of those high odds. The top two ranked drivers won 9 out of the 10 final races that year.

In the event you’ve found research that gives you an edge, lock it in as early as possible to lock in the best rate. Season winning odds are better at the start of the season as well.

Bet wisely

The mere knowledge of who will win the race, which no one really can predict, is not even sufficient to turn a profit in F1.

When it comes to betting, there is endless flexibility, and all the information you uncover over the week should influence your decision. This is related to not betting with your heart, and letting situational decisions dictate what bet to place that particular week.

Below, we’ll give you the most common bets to get you started:

  • To-win bets. Choose your driver.
  • Driver match-ups. Simply pitting two drivers against each other. Your pick need only come in before the other, regardless of where they finish.
  • Podium finishes. Choosing a dark horse to win the Grand Prix may not be wise, but good odds can be found if they make the podium.
  • Propositional bets. Those are the bets where most weekend warriors bet on for fun without skill, and most of them are based more on luck than skill. If you use it to your advantage, you’ll be a winner.
  • Pole position. Despite who wins the race, it’s possible to make some decent money if you predict who will start on pole.

If you mix up your bets based on the research that you’ve done each week, you’ll learn to tailor each week to what you’ve learned.

Keep an open mind and follow the facts.

Note: The quotes in this article are fictional.

1. Kyle Larson: Larson took second in Sunday’s Visit The Pocono Mountains 350 after falling just short in Saturday’s race.

“Congratulations to Kyle Busch,” Larson said. “He took a crappy situation and made it great. He did the opposite when he drove the No. 5 car for Hendrick Motorsports.”

2. Denny Hamlin: Hamlin led late at Pocono but had to pit on the final lap for gas, dropping him to 14th.

“If we could have had just a few more drops of gas,” Hamlin said, “we certainly would have found another way not to win the race.”

3. Kyle Busch: Busch battled transmission issues at Pocono, but played the fuel mileage game perfectly and won the Explore The Pocono Mountains 350.

“I was stuck in fourth gear and had no clutch,” Busch said. “Despite that, crew chief Adam Stevens told me I could win. I told him he was ‘full of it.’ He said, ‘No, but your fuel tank is.'”

4. Alex Bowman: Bowman finished seventh on Sunday at Pocono, one day after winning Saturday’s Cup race.

“Jeff Gordon accepted the vice chairman role at Hendrick Motorsports,” Bowman said. “I think everyone expects him to flourish in an executive role. The cycle is nearly complete. Jeff’s gone from ‘Boy Wonder’ to ‘Board Wonder.'”

5. William Byron: Byron won Stage 2 and led the final stage until he was forced to pit for fuel with two laps remaining. He finished 12th.

“There’s no worse feeling in racing than coming up short on gas,” Byron said. “Sometimes, when you’re fuel gauge says ‘E,’ what it’s really saying is ‘You’re F‘ed.'”

6. Chase Elliott: Elliott suffered a flat right-front tire on lap 102 and fell a lap down. He eventually finished 27th.

“All three of my Hendrick Motorsports teammates finished in the top 12,” Elliott said. “My finish won me an award HMS likes to call the ‘Rear-Ender Award,’ which means you finished last among the four Hendrick drivers. In other words, it means you’re not Kyle Larson.”

7. Kevin Harvick: Harvick finished fourth in the Visit The Pocono Mountains 350.

“I just want to assure fans that you can simultaneously visit the Pocono Mountains,” Harvick said, “and the Mountains Of Busch.”

8. Martin Truex Jr.: Truex won Stage 1 and finished 11th in the Explore The Pocono Mountains 350.

“Congratulations to my Joe Gibbs teammate Kyle Busch,” Truex said. “He took lemons and made lemonade. That could be why many people consider Kyle the ‘yellow liquid’ of auto racing.”

9. Joey Logano: Logano finished 10th at Pocono.

“I can’t remember the last time I actually felt like I could win,” Logano said. “I just know we need to step it up. Like Kyle Busch, we need to find that extra gear.”

10. Brad Keselowski: Keselowski came home third at Pocono, posting his first top-five since a third at Kansas in early May.

“I had forgotten what a top five felt like,” Keselowski said. “In fact, I had become accustomed to finishing outside the top 20. Actually, that should help me acclimate pretty easily when I start driving for Roush-Fenway Racing.”
