Back to Back: Meyer Shank Racing Heads to St. Petersburg for the Firestone Grand Prix

#60: Jack Harvey, Meyer Shank Racing Honda

Meyer Shank Racing helps celebrate AutoNation’s 25th anniversary of peerless customer experience

Pataskala, Ohio (20 April 2021) – The NTT INDYCAR season is kicking off in a big way as the series moves to St. Petersburg this weekend for the second of three consecutive race weekends to open the 2021 championship.

Coming off of an eleventh pace finish at Barber Motorsports Park, Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) and Jack Harvey are ready to take on the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on Sunday (12:00pm ET, NBC/SiriusXM Ch. 205).

Harvey has shown promise on the Streets of St. Petersburg in the No. 60 AutoNation / SiriusXM Honda. The 2019 St. Pete event saw Harvey earn his best qualifying result on the temporary street circuit after he claimed seventh on the starting grid.

Last season, Harvey once again continued to fight toward the front in qualifying, advancing into the Firestone Fast Six and qualifying fifth. With all signs pointing towards a top five finish, Harvey unfortunately was collected by another competitor reentering the track and his race came to an early end.

This year, Harvey is coming back to St. Pete with redemption in mind and to finally capitalize on the pace that the team has had in recent years.

“We had a lot of positives to take out of Barber,” said Harvey. “We’re obviously hoping to roll into St. Pete with that same momentum. We’ve been really strong there in the past and street course racing is definitely a favorite of mine. I’m hoping that we can build on all of the progress we have made and we can come out of it with a strong result.”

The event is also a special one for MSR’s partner, AutoNation. The Fort Lauderdale-based company is celebrating its 25th anniversary of peerless customer experience.

In its 25 years of business, AutoNation has not only sold over 13 millions vehicles from coast to coast but the automotive retailer has made it a priority to join in on the fight against cancer. To date, AutoNation has raised over $25 million for cancer research and treatment through its DRV PNK campaign and has partnered with BCRF and invested $1.7 million to fund new cancer research grants coast to coast.

The three-day Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg race weekend will kick off on Friday and with the green flag set for 12:00pm ET on Sunday. The race will be broadcast live on NBC with additional INDYCAR Radio coverage on SiriusXM Ch. 205.

NASCAR Driver Spencer Boyd Welcomes Highly Caffeinated Angry Brew Coffee as Sponsor

Mooresville, NC (April 20, 2021) – Spencer Boyd announced today that Angry Brew will be a 2021 sponsor of the No. 20 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team highlighted with a primary paint scheme at Kansas Raceway. Angry Brew Coffee is a highly caffeinated coffee brand roasted by Michigan-based Five Lakes Coffee Company.

“My day starts early,” said Spencer Boyd. “I’m up at 6am to work out before I start my work day. I need to be clear-headed quickly so I was searching for a coffee that would kick-start my day even before the first cup finished. Angry Brew is the coffee for me because it wakes me up quickly without feeling weird. It just so happens that they have a cool brand that looks amazing on a race truck.”

Five Lakes Coffee co-founders and brothers Paul & Jared have been asked for ‘coffee with a punch’ many times over the years. If you’re getting a cup of coffee at one of their cafes, the quick fix is to add a shot of espresso to your coffee but what about brewing highly caffeinated coffee at home? Angry Brew is the solution! Angry Brew is a dark roast, started with Fair Trade Certified Organically Grown green coffee beans and blended with Robusta coffee beans to achieve a high caffeine content naturally, then roasted in a custom blend to produce a well-balanced and delicious coffee.

Co-Owner of Five Lakes Coffee, Paul Smith, commented on the partnership with Spencer Boyd, “We love NASCAR and know the fans will love Angry Brew right back. We have developed a ‘Coffee with a Punch’ for the men and women that provide for their families day in and day out. Spencer embodies the hard-working mentality of our customers and has the authentic social media that we were looking for in a partner. There is a quote from a movie… ‘Don’t Drive Angry’, well in this case we want Spencer to drive Angry!”

Having grown up outside of St. Louis, Spencer Boyd calls Kansas Speedway his second home track. The No. 20 Angry Brew Chevrolet Silverado out of the Youngs Motorsports stable will be ready to do battle when the trucks head to the Midwest on May 1.

AutoTempest Joins Buescher, Roush Fenway Racing as a Primary on No. 17

AutoTempest to Serve as Primary Partner for Races at Kansas and COTA

CONCORD, N.C., (April 20, 2021) – AutoTempest.com, an aggregator of online classified advertisements specifically for cars, has joined Roush Fenway Racing and will serve as a primary partner for Chris Buescher in two races this season.

Their debut comes May 2nd at Kansas Speedway when Buescher makes his 11th start at the 1.5-mile track. The brand will return to the No. 17 machine for NASCAR’s historical event at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) during the May 23rd weekend in Austin, Texas.

“We’re excited to partner with a brand like AutoTempest that falls right into our wheelhouse when talking about cars,” Buescher said. “Any time we can welcome a new partner to the sport, it brings an extra element of excitement for the team. We can’t wait to put the AutoTempest Ford Mustang on track in a couple weeks in Kansas, and then again down the road when we visit a new track in my home state.”

Since 2008, AutoTempest.com has helped consumers find their ideal cars online. The site streamlines the car buying process by gathering search results from top used car websites to take effort and guesswork out of the equation.

“We’ve never really done a lot of traditional advertising,” said AutoTempest CEO Nathan Stretch. “When people hear there’s a site where you can basically search everywhere at once for used cars, it kind of sells itself. Instead, we’ve focused on supporting the automotive and motorsports communities, which helps get the word out about what we do but also lets us give back at the same time. As fans ourselves, having the opportunity to sponsor Chris and the team is really incredible.”

Kansas is the site of two top-10s for Buescher, including a career-best sixth-place run in 2017. He also finished 10th in the 2019 spring event. Through nine races, the 28-year-old has the 17 team sitting 16th in the standings with an average finish of 16.9.

COTA serves as one of the highlights of NASCAR’s revamped schedule in 2021, which features a record six road courses. The May 23rd weekend, which will feature both practice and qualifying sessions, serves as NASCAR’s first-ever visit to the facility, which routinely hosts both Formula 1 and MotoGP races. It will mark one of three visits to Buescher’s home state in 2021, with Texas Motor Speedway set to host the All-Star Race in June, and its annual playoff race in October.

Buescher has a road course win to his credit at the NASCAR National Series level with a win at Mid-Ohio back in 2014 in a Roush Fenway Xfinity entry. The Prosper, Texas, native has been impressive at road courses as of late, running 10th at the Daytona Road Course this February, just a year after finishing fifth there last summer.

Natalie Decker to drive the No. 23 for Our Motorsports starting at Talladega

STATESVILLE, N.C. (April 20, 2021) – Our Motorsports announces today the addition of Natalie Decker to its driver roster for the No. 23 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Decker will pilot the entry for four races, starting with this weekend’s Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The Eagle River, Wisconsin native will have sponsorship from Red Street Records for all four races.

“I’m so ready to be back in the 23 car,” Decker said. “I love Talladega and I’m so happy it’s on my schedule this year. I will be with a new team, Our Motorsports, so there will be some challenges because this will be our first race together. I’m so thankful for Red Street Records – it’s been so much fun working with them this year and we’re all so excited to get to Talladega.”

Red Street Records, a Christian music label formed in 2018 by Jay DeMarcus – member of country supergroup Rascal Flatts – will feature its artist Cade Thompson on the hood of the No. 23 Chevrolet for the 300-mile race at Talladega in Lincoln, Alabama.

“It’s an honor for Red Street Records to be a part of team Natalie Decker and Our Motorsports,” said Jay DeMarcus, Owner of Red Street Records. “Natalie is a phenomenal talent and we are thrilled to feature our artist, Cade Thompson, on the hood of the car in Talladega! Let’s Race!” Mark Lusk, President/General Manager, commented: “This partnership really is a perfect match.

The drive and dedication of Team Natalie Decker matches the drive and dedication of the entire team at Red Street Records. We are excited for these races!”

Decker made her NXS debut at the Daytona International Speedway Road Course in February with Red Street Records on board and GRAMMY winning artist, Jason Crabb, on the hood. The 23-year-old driver has amassed 32 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with a best finish of 5th.

Decker will also pilot the Our Motorsports entry at Nashville Superspeedway in June, Road America in July, and Martinsville Speedway in October.

“We’re excited to welcome Natalie to the Our Motorsports team,” said Our Motorsports General Manager Joe Williams. “We’ve got a great group of drivers for the No. 23 and I’m glad that Natalie and Red Street Records get to be a part of it. I’m ready to see what we can accomplish together.”

The Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway will take the green flag on Saturday, April 24 at 4 p.m. ET. The 113-lap event will be broadcast on FOX.

PANINI AMERICA UNVEILING NEW UFC PAINT SCHEME FOR TALLADEGA XFINITY SERIES RACE TO CELEBRATE LAUNCH OF 2021 UFC PRIZM

Gray Gaulding’s No. 52 Camaro will feature a flashy new UFC Prizm scheme during Talladega race

IRVING, Texas (April 20, 2021) – Panini America is breaking from its primary Panini Trading Cards paint scheme that has been a constant on Xfinity Series races the last three years and planning to pack a punch at Talladega Superspeedway on April 24 for the NASCAR Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 250 with a bold, new paint scheme for Gray Gaulding and his No. 52 Camaro (Jimmy Means Racing). The new paint scheme celebrates Panini America’s exclusive partnership with UFC®, and the upcoming release of the 2021 UFC Prizm trading card product that arrives in hobby shops and online at www.paniniamerica.net on April 28 and at Walmart and Target in early May. The Talladega unveiling also coincides with the highly anticipated UFC® 261: USMAN vs. MASVIDAL 2, which takes place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., that afternoon.

The new paint scheme features the trading card industry’s most popular brand – PRIZM and includes imagery of several key trading cards from the upcoming UFC Prizm release. This marks the second time that Panini America has utilized its primary sponsorship of Gaulding to showcase Panini’s popular trading cards across all sports with a special paint scheme. In August of 2019, Panini America painted Gaulding’s No. 08 Chevrolet with a 2019 Donruss Football scheme featuring NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes who went on to win the Super Bowl that year.

“Timing could not have been better for this unique marketing activation,” said Jason Howarth, Panini America Vice President of Marketing. “The Talladega Xfinity race happening on the same day as UFC 261 and just a few days before the hobby release of our first UFC trading card product presented an opportunity to celebrate the partnership in a compelling way. We’re excited to partner with Gray to showcase our UFC relationship to passionate NASCAR fans.”

“Panini has been an incredible partner over the last three seasons, and I cannot wait for Saturday to climb into the Talladega ring with our No. 52 Panini America UFC PRIZM Camaro,” Gaulding said. “Just like in 2019 at Bristol when Panini ran Patrick Mahomes on my hood, I think fans will appreciate this amazing new PRIZM design that has become so popular with sports fans and trading card fans in all sports.”

GMS Racing ARCA Talladega Preview

Jack Wood, No. 21 Chevy Accessories Chevrolet
Talladega Superspeedway Stats

  • No prior starts at Talladega Superspeedway. 2021 ARCA Menards Series
  • Starts: 2, Best start: 5, Best finish: 9, Top 10s: 1

Notes:

  • Jack Wood is set to make his first career start at Talladega Superspeedway in Saturday’s General Tire 200. Wood has one prior superspeedway start at Daytona International Speedway in February.
  • Wood and the No. 21 team will compete with chassis no. 655 this weekend in Talladega. This is the same chassis that Wood piloted to a ninth-place finish at the season opener in Daytona.
  • Wood enters the Talladega weekend eighth in series points, 41 points behind the leader.

Quote:

“Our first goal for Talladega is just to run all the laps. The Superspeedway racing can be so hit and miss, with getting caught up in stuff outside your control, we just need to make it to the checkered flag. Superspeedway racing is just a big chess game and that caught me off guard in Daytona, but having that race under my belt I’m prepared to be more aggressive at Talladega and more willing to try different things in the racecar to get us up front. Our team as a whole is gelling so much better than we were at the start of the season because we’ve had some time to work together. I’m in the shop with them every week and the camaraderie has grown so much. We know how to communicate and what we’re looking for in the car so I’m looking forward to heading to Talladega this week and having a chance to put our Chevy in victory lane.”

Frustration builds heading into Talladega

Alex Bowman placed the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 Chevrolet in victory lane for the first time in nearly four years on Sunday afternoon at Richmond Raceway.  This was his third NASCAR Cup Series victory and his first of the 2021 season.

“We just had a great race car; it’s as simple as that. Greg Ives (Crew Chief) and all the guys, they have to deal with me at short tracks and I drive these places really wrong. We kind of instead of trying to make me figure it out, we went to work on getting the race car where I needed it to be. Greg has done such an amazing job at making that happen.” Bowman said.

It was a power play in the final laps for the No. 48 Chevrolet driver and you can make your own at powerplay sports betting and capture the ultimate adrenaline rush into sports betting.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin dominated the race by leading 207 of the 400 laps and lost again for the third race in a row.  Hamlin finished second, but it was another late-race pass that cost him another race win.

“We just didn’t take off quite as good there at the end. I tried to warm it up and do everything that I could – just the 48 (Alex Bowman) had a little more on those last few laps and I couldn’t hold the bottom. Once he got the position, we were just shut down there.” Hamlin said.

Last week at Martinsville Speedway, Hamlin led 276 laps and lost the lead to Martin Truex Jr. with 16 laps to go in the race.  “That was a lot of fun there racing at the end with Denny (Hamlin). We raced clean and we were able to come out on top.” Truex Jr. said.

“We had a really fast car for 20 laps or so, and then it would just kind of go away. Fortunate for us, we had a great day and had ourselves a shot at it, but just wasn’t quite good enough.” Hamlin said at Martinsville.

The frustration is mounting for the driver of the No. 11 Toyota as the series heads into the unpredictable 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama.

“There’s frustration, for sure. But it doesn’t change my attitude or work ethic. I’m going to work just as hard to win next week and the week after that. You’re a competitor, you want to win.” Hamlin said after Richmond.

Hamlin has two wins, nine top-5’s, 13 top-10’s, an average finish of 16.7, and a driver rating of 83.6 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Brad Keselowski might be a powerplay for your portfolio.  Keselowski leads all active NCS drivers in victories at Talladega Superspeedway with five (2009, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017).

Jennifer Jo Cobb was going to make her Cup Series debut at Talladega, but NASCAR says that she didn’t meet the sanctioning body’s approval criteria for the race.

The GEICO 500 is scheduled for Sunday, April 25 at 2 p.m. ET on FOX, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).
