Head West and ‘Steak’ Your Claim

Rick Ware Racing Brings Arby’s Steak Nuggets to Las Vegas

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 9, 2025) – The West was settled long ago, but travelers can still “steak” their claim this weekend in Las Vegas by sampling Arby’s new Steak Nuggets at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, site of Sunday’s South Point 400 NASCAR Cup Series race.

Arby’s Steak Nuggets officially debuted this week, and the brand known for having the meats has partnered with Rick Ware Racing (RWR) to bring these tender, juicy, hand-cut, bite-sized pieces of steak to race fans.

Cody Ware, driver of the No. 51 Arby’s Ford Mustang Dark Horse for RWR, leads the way for Arby’s activation at Las Vegas with his red-and-white Arby’s Steak Nuggets-emblazoned racecar. And when not turning laps at nearly 190 mph, Ware will be serving up Steak Nuggets from the Arby’s food truck in the speedway’s fan zone, located behind the frontstretch grandstands. From 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT on Saturday and from 11:30-11:50 a.m. PDT on Sunday, fans can get their first taste of Steak Nuggets directly from Ware.

“It’s always fun to be a part of something new, especially when it’s as good as Arby’s Steak Nuggets,” Ware said. “Everyone loves steak, and Arby’s has made it easy to enjoy anywhere, including the racetrack. I’m looking forward to handing out samples to fans this weekend and tapping into the energy they bring to our sport.”

In addition to sharing Steak Nuggets with fans, Ware will share his perspective from behind the wheel of his Arby’s Steak Nuggets Ford Mustang to television viewers during practice and qualifying on Saturday and through all 267 laps on Sunday. His No. 51 machine will carry in-car cameras featuring four distinct views – from the roof, the rear bumper, looking back at Ware, and an interior shot that turns 360 degrees.

TruTV will broadcast practice at 1:30 p.m. PDT/4:30 p.m. EDT followed by qualifying at 2:40 p.m. PDT/5:40 p.m. EDT. The South Point 400 goes green on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. PDT/5:30 p.m. EDT with flag-to-flag coverage delivered by USA. All of the weekend’s track action can be heard on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Whether watching in person or tuning in from home, Arby’s Steak Nuggets are the perfect complement to the NASCAR race weekend at Las Vegas. Seasoned with garlic and pepper, Steak Nuggets are hand-cut, seared and smoked, providing a tasty and premium protein option that can be enjoyed with a fork or just your fingers. It’s a whole new way to nugget, but delivered with convenience.

“Who doesn’t love tender and savory steak? But, until now, it’s been inconvenient to eat, particularly on the go,” said Jeff Baker, Chief Marketing Officer, Arby’s. “That’s why we created this new innovative product. Two of America’s favorite foods – nuggets and steak – combined to create Arby’s Steak Nuggets. No knife needed, fork optional. For race fans at the track, it’s the perfect meal.”

Arby’s Steak Nuggets can be enjoyed three different ways:

● The Steak Nuggets entrée: comes in 5- or 9-count and served with a fork and Hickory BBQ sauce.

● The Steak Nugget Sandwich: includes Steak Nuggets with Havarti Cheese, crispy onions, tangy pickles and mayo on a toasted bun.

● The Steak Nugget Bowl: features Steak Nuggets on top of creamy white cheddar Mac ‘n Cheese with a sprinkling of crispy onions.

Steak Nuggets are available now at Arby’s restaurants nationwide for a limited time only. To find your nearest location, visit Arbys.com/locations. For fans attending the South Point 400 in person, search HERE for the Las Vegas location closest to you and, of course, visit the Arby’s food truck in the speedway’s fan zone.

Upon arriving at Las Vegas with either a full stomach or lunch in hand from Arby’s, fans will see a fast, sweeping racetrack. Drivers lap the 1.5-mile oval in under 30 seconds with an average speed that approaches 185 mph. With its corners banked at 20 degrees, two- and three-wide racing is common, and Las Vegas’ aged asphalt provides enough grip for drivers to search different lines in an effort to find more speed.

“Vegas is one of my favorite tracks to go to on the schedule. It’s got a lot of character,” Ware said. “Being out in the desert, it can be a little bit dusty, and you have some pretty significant bumps, especially over in the corners. You have to be very cognizant of your corner entry and the line you’re taking, because if you hit those bumps in turns one and two just the wrong way, it could end your day pretty quickly.

“And with the different lines you can run, you can find ways to make the car work for you even if your car isn’t exactly where you want it. If you don’t have a good handle on your car, there’s about a lane-and-a-half you can use in turns one and two. But if your car is handling well, you can take those bumps aggressively. That opens up a lot of racing opportunities from the bottom of the racetrack all the way to the wall.”

About Rick Ware Racing:

Rick Ware has been a motorsports mainstay for more than 40 years. It began at age 6 when the third-generation racer began his driving career and has since spanned four wheels and two wheels on both asphalt and dirt. Competing in the SCCA Trans Am Series and other road-racing divisions led Ware to NASCAR in the early 1980s, where he finished third in his NASCAR debut – the 1983 Warner W. Hodgdon 300 NASCAR Grand American race at Riverside (Calif.) International Raceway. More than a decade later, injuries would force Ware out of the driver’s seat and into full-time team ownership. In 1995, Rick Ware Racing was formed, and with his wife Lisa by his side, Ware has since built his eponymous organization into an entity that competes full-time in the elite NASCAR Cup Series while simultaneously campaigning successful teams in the Top Fuel class of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, Progressive American Flat Track, FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) and zMAX CARS Tour.

Berry, Wood Brothers Eye Another Vegas Jackpot on Sunday

Josh Berry and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend with confidence – and history – on their side. Earlier this season, Berry earned his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory at the 1.5-mile track, giving the Wood Brothers their 101st win in the process.

That breakthrough performance came in March’s Pennzoil 400, where Berry and the No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse team showcased their resilience and speed. After an extra pit stop to tighten a loose wheel dropped him to 19th at the start of the final Stage, Berry methodically worked his way back through the field and outdueled Daniel Suárez in a 34-lap showdown to capture the checkered flag.

The win also marked Miles Stanley’s first triumph as crew chief and capped a dominant weekend for the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang Dark Horse, which was among the fastest cars from start to finish. Berry started seventh, earned Stage points in both segments, and led 18 total laps, including the final 16 in a row, on his way to a 1.36-second margin of victory.

The performance locked Berry into the NASCAR Playoffs and secured at least a top-16 finish in the final standings, a great accomplishment in his first campaign with a new team.

“Going back to Las Vegas brings back a lot of great memories for our team,” Berry said. “Getting that first win there in the spring was a huge moment, and it really showed what we’re capable of when everything comes together. Since then, we’ve continued to make gains and build chemistry as a group, and hopefully we can carry that progress into this weekend and have another great run there.”

Practice for the South Point 400 kicks off Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET, followed by qualifying at 5:40 p.m. ET, both airing on truTV.

The 267-lap, 400.5-mile race takes the green flag Sunday at 5:30 p.m. ET with live coverage on USA Network. Stage breaks are scheduled for Laps 80 and 165.

How Much Does a Camper Van Cost? 144 vs 170 Guide

How much is a camper van? This question dominates early planning conversations for anyone considering vanlife. The answer depends heavily on size, features, and intended use. Understanding the cost of a camper van begins with choosing the wheelbase. Comparing the Mercedes Sprinter 144 versus 170 reveals significant price differences that affect both the initial investment and long-term expenses.

Breaking Down Camper Van Costs by Size

Wheelbase selection impacts your budget immediately and for years to come. The 144-inch model offers lower entry costs, while the 170-inch requires more investment upfront but delivers additional space and comfort.

Base vehicle prices typically differ by $3,000 to $5,000 between the two wheelbases. However, total ownership costs extend far beyond the initial purchase. When asking how much a camper van costs, it’s essential to consider the complete financial picture, including fuel, insurance, maintenance, and modifications.

How Much Is a Camper Van: 144 Wheelbase Breakdown

Initial Investment
A completed 144 wheelbase Sprinter generally ranges from $85,000 to $140,000, including both the base vehicle and the custom interior.

  • Base vehicle cost: $45,000 to $55,000 for a new Sprinter 144
  • Interior build: $40,000 to $85,000, depending on materials and features
  • Essential systems: $8,000 to $15,000 for solar, water, and climate control

Budget-conscious buyers may choose DIY builds or minimalist layouts, while premium designs with advanced electronics, hardwood finishes, and luxury fixtures drive up the price.

Ongoing Expenses
The 144 wheelbase often saves money over time.

  • Fuel economy: 18–20 MPG average
  • Tire replacement: Four tires at $800–$1,200 total
  • Parking: Fits in standard spaces, avoiding oversized vehicle fees
  • Insurance: $1,200–$2,400 annually

Who Saves with the 144
Weekend travelers and couples benefit most from the compact 144. It’s ideal for those who value maneuverability and cost efficiency without sacrificing comfort.

How Much Does a Camper Van Cost: 170 Wheelbase Analysis

Initial Investment
A completed 170 wheelbase Sprinter typically costs between $95,000 and $160,000.

  • Base vehicle cost: $48,000 to $58,000
  • Interior build: $47,000 to $102,000
  • Essential systems: Similar to 144, though larger battery capacity may be needed

The added 40 inches of length increases material, labor, and component costs. More cabinetry, insulation, flooring, and wiring are required, which extends build time and expense.

Ongoing Expenses
Operating costs rise with size.

  • Tires: Six tires cost $1,200–$1,800
  • Parking: Oversized fees possible in some areas
  • Insurance: $1,400–$2,800 annually

Who Benefits from the 170
Full-time travelers, remote workers, and families benefit from the added space. The investment becomes worthwhile for those who live, work, and travel long-term in their van.

Detailed Cost Comparison: 144 vs 170

Cost Category144 Wheelbase170 WheelbaseDifference
Base vehicle$45,000–$55,000$48,000–$58,000+$3,000–$5,000
Interior work$40,000–$85,000$47,000–$102,000+$7,000–$17,000
Total range$85,000–$140,000$95,000–$160,000+$10,000–$20,000

The 170 model consistently costs about 10–15% more. This difference grows with premium materials or advanced systems.

Five-Year Ownership Costs

144 Wheelbase (50,000 miles over 5 years):

  • Fuel: ~$14,000
  • Tires: ~$1,800
  • Insurance: ~$8,000
  • Maintenance: ~$4,500

170 Wheelbase (50,000 miles over 5 years):

  • Fuel: ~$16,500
  • Tires: ~$3,000
  • Insurance: ~$10,000
  • Maintenance: ~$5,200

Over five years, the 170 costs about $7,400 more to operate, a key factor when budgeting long-term vanlife expenses.

Hidden Costs That Affect Both Wheelbases

Essential Systems
Solar power, water systems, and climate control add substantial costs regardless of wheelbase.

  • Solar setup: $3,000–$8,000
  • Water system: $1,500–$3,500
  • Heating/cooling: $2,000–$5,000
  • Electrical: $2,500–$6,000

Material Choices
The choice of materials impacts both price and longevity. Sustainable options like bamboo, wool insulation, and marine-grade components are more expensive upfront but last longer and retain resale value.

  • Budget materials: $15,000–$25,000

Professional vs DIY Builds
Labor is a major cost variable.

While DIY builds save money, poor craftsmanship can lead to water damage or electrical issues costing thousands in repairs. Working with professionals ensures safety and long-term reliability.

Real Budget Examples

Weekend Adventure Build (144 Wheelbase)

  • Total: $95,000
  • Simple layout with Murphy bed, solar, and water system
  • Ideal for couples and light travelers

Full-Time Family Build (170 Wheelbase)

  • Total: $145,000
  • Bunk beds, durable finishes, and advanced power systems
  • Designed for comfort and longevity

Remote Worker Build (170 Wheelbase)

  • Total: $132,000
  • Dedicated office area, solar setup, and ergonomic layout

Factors That Increase Costs Regardless of Size

  • Off-grid capability: Adds $8,000–$15,000 for solar, inverters, and batteries
  • Four-wheel drive: Adds $10,000–$15,000 to base cost
  • Premium appliances: Adds $3,000–$8,000 for high-end kitchen and bath setups

Resale Value Considerations

144 Wheelbase Advantages:

  • Broader buyer pool
  • Easier resale
  • Lower depreciation (15–20% in first three years)

170 Wheelbase Advantages:

  • Strong demand among families and full-timers
  • Holds value better with quality materials
  • Slightly higher depreciation (18–23%)

Both models maintain strong resale when well-maintained and built with durable, sustainable materials.

Working with Reliable Experts

When investing in a six-figure vehicle, the right builder makes all the difference. Experienced teams with years in the van conversion industry understand how to balance cost, function, and design.

Professionals who focus on sustainability and craftsmanship typically deliver Sprinter camper vans that perform better and last longer. Quality construction and smart material choices pay for themselves through comfort, reliability, and resale value.

Making Your Budget Work

Financing Options

  • RV loans: 4–7% interest for qualified buyers
  • Personal loans: 6–12% interest
  • Home equity loans: Lower rates but require collateral

A $120,000 van at 6% interest for 10 years averages around $1,330 per month. Always factor in insurance, fuel, and maintenance before committing.

Phased Upgrades
Some travelers start small and add features over time, spreading costs across years. This approach works best for those comfortable handling minor installations themselves.

Expert Insight on Cost vs Value

Industry experts agree that the true value of camper vans lies in how well they match the owner’s lifestyle. Spending more upfront on quality systems and materials prevents expensive repairs and increases daily comfort.

A thoughtful build tailored to your needs provides long-term satisfaction and confidence on the road.

Final Thoughts on Camper Van Investment

So how much does a camper van cost? Expect to spend between $85,000 and $160,000+ for a professionally completed Mercedes Sprinter. The 144 wheelbase suits couples and part-time travelers, while the 170 provides essential space for full-timers and families.

Your budget should align with your intended lifestyle. Honest evaluation of needs versus wants helps you make smart financial decisions without sacrificing comfort or adventure.

How AI Is Changing Fan Engagement in Motorsports

In racing, milliseconds matter, and the same goes for fan attention. The world of motorsports has always been about speed, technology, and passion. But as artificial intelligence takes center stage in digital innovation, it’s now transforming how fans connect with the sport and with each other.

From predictive analytics to virtual companions that chat about race stats, AI is reshaping every pit stop of fan interaction.

The Rise of AI in the Racing Ecosystem

Artificial intelligence (AI) is not new to motorsports. Teams have used machine learning for years to optimize performance, from analyzing tire wear to fine-tuning aerodynamic setups. But what’s changing now is how AI connects fans to the action.

Modern fans crave more than a highlight reel; they want personalized, always-on engagement. These systems can converse with fans, offer insights, and even build emotional connections around shared racing passions.

A New Type of Connection: From Spectators to Participants

Traditionally, fans would tune in, watch, and maybe post a few comments online. But now, AI enables two-way conversation. You can ask an AI about a driver’s past lap times, relive race history, or even create AI characters that embody legendary drivers or favorite teams.

Instead of passively watching, fans participate more deeply, learning, debating, and bonding through AI-driven dialogue.

The Numbers Behind the Revolution

Generative AI app downloads hit 1.7 billion in the first half of 2025, up from 1 billion in late 2024. That explosive growth reflects the global appetite for smarter, more interactive technology, the same trend fueling innovation among motorsport fans.

The same report reveals some fascinating statistics about how users are engaging with AI:

• 64% of businesses now use generative AI tools — a jump of 17% year over year.
• Daily active users of AI applications passed 350 million globally in mid-2025.
• In education, AI usage surged 42% as people adopted digital tutors and assistants.
• Media and entertainment saw a 55% increase in AI-driven production in 2024.
• Around 30% of global users now include an AI companion in their daily online routine.
• Enterprise chatbot deployments expanded by 78% between 2023 and 2024.
• One in three consumers says they trust a brand more if it offers a virtual companion.
• AI-generated text volumes have grown fivefold since 2022.
• About 22% of mobile users now engage weekly with a generative AI experience.
• Retention rates for AI companion users average 68% after six months, an incredible benchmark compared to traditional apps.

These numbers show one thing clearly: AI isn’t a passing trend. It’s a mainstream movement changing how we connect, communicate, and consume.

Motorsports Meets Machine Learning

In racing, AI tools already assist teams in countless ways — but they’re now driving fan engagement, too.

Imagine watching a live race with an AI assistant that can:
• Explain pit stop strategy in real time.
• Compare driver performance over seasons.
• Simulate “what-if” scenarios from historic races.
• Predict outcomes based on weather and car data.

That kind of interactive storytelling transforms the viewing experience from passive observation into dynamic exploration.

How Virtual Companions Deepen Fan Loyalty

For media outlets like Speedway Media, AI opens up entirely new engagement opportunities. A virtual companion built around racing culture could:

• Provide daily racing trivia or driver bios.
• Chat with fans about their favorite teams.
• Share personalized content such as highlights of a fan’s top driver.
• Offer predictions and analysis using historical race data.

Fans no longer need to search endlessly for stats or updates. They can ask the AI for immediate, contextual responses, such as a chat with a knowledgeable pit crew member.

These AI platforms can handle millions of interactions at once, delivering personalized engagement without overwhelming human moderators or content teams.

Creating AI Characters That Feel Real

One of the most exciting frontiers is the ability to create AI characters that feel authentic and relatable.

Imagine an AI modeled after a legendary driver who can recall famous races or comment on modern events. Or a team mascot that sends friendly reminders before race day. These creations turn fandom into a personal experience and something memorable that keeps people coming back.

Beyond entertainment, AI companions can offer education and insight. They can teach racing strategy, explain car technology, or mentor new fans who want to better understand the sport.

Balancing Technology with Authenticity

AI’s power lies in personalization, but motorsport audiences value authenticity. The key is balance and letting AI enhance human connection, not replace it. That means designing companions and tools that support community engagement rather than automate it entirely. Fans should feel that their favorite media outlets or teams still value their voice and individuality.

AI can help achieve that by learning from fan feedback and adapting tone, depth, and timing to suit different audiences.

What This Means for the Future of Fan Experience

The motorsport industry has always been about innovation, and this is the next great pit stop. AI gives media companies, teams, and sponsors new ways to build loyalty.

In the coming years, expect to see:

• Personalized racing feeds curated by AI based on fan habits.
• AI-powered commentary assistants breaking down race data live.
• Digital racing “buddies” that remember your favorite circuits and drivers.
• Interactive archives that let fans relive iconic races conversationally.

These aren’t distant dreams. The infrastructure is in place, and as adoption numbers show, audiences are ready.

Why the Smartest Teams Are Paying Attention

Motorsport organizations that embrace AI early will gain a serious competitive edge in fan engagement. Early adopters can build deeper loyalty, discover what fans truly want, and gain insights that can shape everything from content strategy to sponsorships.

Even independent creators can benefit. Bloggers, commentators, and YouTubers can integrate AI companions to manage community Q&As, suggest new storylines, or automate highlight summaries.

The best part? AI doesn’t just save time; it enhances creativity. It helps storytellers think bigger and connect deeper.

Final Lap: The Road Ahead

Artificial intelligence isn’t just helping drivers race faster; it’s helping fans feel closer to the action. The combination of smart data, storytelling, and interactive technology will define the next era of motorsport media. As usage continues to climb and personalization becomes the norm, AI will sit in the passenger seat of fan experience — guiding, entertaining, and inspiring. The race toward smarter, more human digital engagement has already begun.

The Rise of Interactive Betting Games

Online gaming has transformed from traditional casino games into highly interactive digital experiences. Plinko gambling stands out by integrating elements of chance and strategy, providing a unique and engaging experience for both casual and competitive players.

The game is inspired by the classic Plinko concept, where players drop tokens onto a pegged board and watch as gravity and obstacles determine the outcome. In the digital version, technology enhances interactivity, speed, and reward dynamics, making each round both thrilling and strategic.

Gameplay Mechanics of Plinko Gambling

Plinko gambling combines chance, strategy, and anticipation. Players must decide where to drop their token, taking into account potential outcomes, probabilities, and risk-reward balances.

  • Interactive Interface: The digital platform offers responsive controls and intuitive mechanics, making it easy for newcomers to engage while still challenging experienced players.
  • Real-Time Outcomes: Every token drop is instantly reflected, creating suspense and excitement.
  • Strategic Placement: While luck plays a role, understanding the board layout and probability patterns can improve outcomes, adding a strategic dimension to the game.

These mechanics ensure that Plinko gambling is not just luck-based but also appeals to players who enjoy analyzing and anticipating outcomes.

Security and Fair Play

For online gaming platforms, security is paramount. Plinko gambling employs advanced encryption technologies to safeguard user data and financial transactions. Players can engage with the platform without concerns over privacy breaches or unauthorized access.

Bonuses and Rewards

Plinko gambling platforms often offer bonuses, promotions, and reward programs to engage users and incentivize continued play. New players typically receive welcome bonuses, while existing users benefit from daily rewards, loyalty schemes, and seasonal tournaments.

These incentives encourage players to explore various game modes, increase session duration, and enhance overall satisfaction. Clear terms and conditions ensure that bonuses are accessible and fair, maximizing player benefits.

Community Features and Social Interaction

Community engagement is a critical element in digital gaming. Plinko gambling incorporates live leaderboards, multiplayer modes, and chat features to create a connected player base.

Players can share achievements, discuss strategies, and compete in friendly competitions. This social dimension transforms Plinko from a solo activity into a collaborative and interactive experience, fostering camaraderie and enhancing overall engagement.

Strategies for Maximizing Success

To excel in Plinko gambling, players can adopt strategic approaches:

  • Analyze Probability: Understand board layouts and token paths to make informed decisions.
  • Risk Management: Set personal limits on wagers to maintain responsible play.
  • Timing and Placement: Optimal placement of tokens can influence outcomes, balancing risk and reward.
  • Balance Fun with Strategy: Combining enjoyment with thoughtful decision-making ensures sustainable engagement and improves potential outcomes.

TEAM CHEVY NASCAR RACE ADVANCE: Las Vegas Motor Speedway 2

TEAM CHEVY ADVANCE
Las Vegas Motor Speedway
October 11-12, 2025

For the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series, the first ticket into the Championship Four is officially up for grabs as both divisions return to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to kickoff the Round of Eight.

Chevrolet’s dominate Xfinity Series season continues with a commanding presence of five drivers remaining in the title hunt with JR Motorsports’ Connor Zilisch, Justin Allgaier, Sammy Smith and Carson Kvapil and Richard Childress Racing’s Jesse Love. In NASCAR’s top division, a trio of Hendrick Motorsports drivers are one step closer to the opportunity to hoist the Bill France Cup including former champions, Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott, with William Byron setting his sights on his third-straight Championship Four appearance.

Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway:

Chevrolet is a 13-time winner in NASCAR’s top division at Las Vegas Motor Speedway – a history that dates back to a win by NASCAR Hall of Famer, Jeff Gordon, in just the series’ fourth appearance at the track (March 2001). But it was the Next Gen era where the Bowtie brand boosted strong results at the Nevada circuit with the manufacturer leading the way with wins in four of the seven races, including the car’s competition debut at the track in March 2022 with Alex Bowman. Following suit of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, William Byron (March 2023) and Kyle Larson (Oct. 2023; March 2024) drove Chevrolet to three-straight trips to victory lane at the track. Despite missing victory lane in the other three Next Gen events at the track, Chevrolet has placed no worse than four drivers in the top-10 in each race, including an impressive seven drivers representing three different Chevrolet organizations in this season’s spring date.

TEAM CHEVY TRIO CONTINUES ON IN TITLE CHASE

A strong second round for Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson, William Byron and Chase Elliott led the trio to spots in the final three-race stretch that leads to the chance to compete for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series championship. Locking-in a Round of Eight berth prior to the drop of the checkered-flag at the Charlotte ROVAL, Larson and Elliott are two of the four remaining title contenders that already have a championship title under their belts. For the 2025 regular season champion, consistency was the name of the game for Byron and the No. 24 team throughout the last round – building a points cushion that took them one step closer to a third-straight Championship Four appearance.

 Larson Heating Up:

Kyle Larson and the No. 5 team drove to a true championship-caliber performance during the Round of 12 to further prove they’re a title threat. Despite a disappointing opening round, the 33-year-old Elk Grove, California, native turned the second three-race stretch into the ultimate rebound – earning a streak of top-seven finishes to carry into the Round of Eight. With the playoff rankings restacked, Larson will lead Team Chevy to Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the third position and four-points above the cutline. With momentum on his side, the 2021 champion will take on a trio of tracks that fares very well for the No. 5 team – two of which they have found victory lane.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway will forever hold a special place in Larson’s Cup Series career – being the site of his first win with Hendrick Motorsports (March 2021). Since then, the No. 5 team has found their footing at the 1.5-mile Nevada oval – tallying three wins and a pair of runner-up finishes over a nine-race timespan. With a series-best average finish of 9.389 at the track, Larson is arguably one of the leading contenders to grab the first ticket into the Championship Four this weekend.

 Round of Eight Tracks:

With just a single-digit points cushion for the series’ top-four drivers in the playoff rankings, a win in one of the next three races is more important than ever to solidify the opportunity to compete for the Bill France Cup. For the Team Chevy playoff contenders, the Round of Eight sets up a strong group of tracks for the trio with each driver owning a victory at two of the three upcoming venues.

In addition to his three wins at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson is also a winner in the Next Gen era at Martinsville Speedway – conquering “The Paperclip” to capture his first grandfather clock in April 2023. Chase Elliott’s championship-earning career also includes triumphs at two of the three tracks in the Round of Eight, including two wins at the round’s “wild card” stop, Talladega Superspeedway, as well as his win at Martinsville Speedway in Nov. 2020 that led the driver to his first career Cup Series championship. Following suit of his teammates, William Byron’s Cup Series resume includes one win at Las Vegas and a pair of Martinsville triumphs – all of which have been recorded in the Next Gen era.

TEAM CHEVY COMMANDS IN NXS ROUND OF EIGHT

In the first elimination race of the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs, Connor Zilisch added onto Chevrolet’s already historic run by delivering the manufacturer its 24th victory in 29 races – the most all-time by a single manufacturer in series’ history. Heading into the Round of Eight, Zilisch is one of five Team Chevy drivers left to vie for the championship title. Among the four organizations represented in the next round, two come from the Chevrolet camp with all four JR Motorsports entries and Richard Childress Racing’s Jesse Love.

Zilisch, Allgaier Continue as Powerhouse Duo at the Top:

It’s a rookie and a veteran that continues to command in the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff rankings. Coming off his 10th win of the season, Connor Zilisch will head west to Las Vegas Motor Speedway with a monstrous 57-point lead over the playoff cutline – a cushion that sets the record for the largest points advantage heading into the Round of Eight in the series’ playoff history. Looking to turn his rookie campaign into a championship-earning season, Zilisch will enter the final three-race stretch with already a handful of records under his belt including a streak of 17 top-five finishes and an average finish of 2.1 over the past 17 races.

His JR Motorsports teammate and reigning series champion, Justin Allgaier, is the only other driver with a double-digit points cushion heading into the next round (+24 points). The 39-year-old Riverton, Illinois, native will tap into his veteran experience as he tries to grab the first Championship Four berth – entering the weekend as Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s defending winner. In addition to being one of only two active past Las Vegas winners, the champion also leads the series at the 1.5-mile Nevada oval in a variety of statistical categories with four runner-up finishes, 12 top-fives and 19 top-10s in 22 career starts.

Love Looks for First Title Bid:

With the right combination of strategy and execution at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, Jesse Love and the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet team will continue the march towards the championship-deciding race. Competing in just his sophomore campaign in the series, this season marks Love’s second appearance in the Round of Eight. Despite having just three career starts at each of the next three venues, his stats speak for themselves and prove he’s a threat for a Championship Four berth.

At the forefront is his strength on superspeedway’s, with his first career Xfinity Series win coming at Talladega Superspeedway in April 2024. Since then, the 20-year-old Menlo Park, California, native has yet to finish outside of the top-six at the 2.66-mile Alabama track, including a podium finish in the spring. Looking at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Danny Stockman-led team will return to the venue with back-to-back top-six results, including a third-place finish that came in March. In both events, the team has scored top-10 results in each stage – proving this weekend could be a big points day for the No. 2 team.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

Ross Chastain, No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

How does it feel not making the next round of Playoffs?

“It’s so disappointing to not make it to the Round of 8 because we worked so hard to put ourselves in the position to make the Playoffs this season. For the chance at a championship to go away by a few points at Charlotte, just isn’t ideal. The good news is we still get to compete for wins and our cars are getting better so even though we aren’t fighting for a championship, we are still competing for wins.”

What’s your outlook on Las Vegas?

“We’ve come really close to winning at Las Vegas a few times. We just need that extra little bit to get it done. For whatever reason, it has been a really good track for me since I’ve been at Trackhouse. Phil Surgen knows what I need there to get the maximum performance out of the car at that particular track. It would be awesome to get the Tootsie’s car in victory lane at Las Vegas for Steve and his group.”

Austin Dillon, No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet

Historically, you have had some good runs at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Describe racing there.

“Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a great mile-and-a-half. Our No. 3 team felt good there earlier this year and it has been a good track for us. We haven’t always gotten the finishes we deserve, but our performance has been solid. The track is rough through Turns 1 and 2, and you have to be able to cut through the bumps. Restarts are wild, too. Vegas is an awesome place to go.”

Justin Haley, No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

You finished in the top-15 in the Spring race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, what’s your outlook for the Fall race this weekend?

“Las Vegas is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule. We’ve had great speed at the 1.5-mile ovals this year, and the No. 7 team has continued to bring really competitive cars. Hopefully we can execute a strong weekend in the Fly Alliance Chevrolet.”

Kyle Busch, No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet

This is your home track. What does it mean to you that you now race here with NASCAR’s Cup Series, and what are some past highlights for you?

“I always remember sitting in the grandstands as a kid, just kind of turning around looking and being like, man, one day, you know, one day I want to race there one day. So Vegas is just a cool track. Years ago it was wider and flatter and put on some really good racing. I finished really well there early on my first few years, then they reconfigured and remade it. I won early on in 2009, I believe it was, to get my only win there. But man, I’ve been so close, I think my top three finishes is really, really high.”

For a track like Las Vegas, where restarts are so hectic and crazy, just take me through a restart here on a race weekend?

“Restarts are sort of the name of the game, I guess, now, because once you get single-filed out and spread out a little bit, it’s hard to make up time and make up ground unless you’re really, really good. And to get by guys that you’re around or in front of you, as well. So you try to get as many as you can and whatever you can. It’s kind of tough, you know, with the defense being as good as the defense can be with guys, where they pull up in front of you and block your air and things like that, where you’ve got to, you know, get out of the gas and whatnot. So it’s definitely changed over the years. This car has changed it again. But it seems like, more and more times, guys are more amped up and more — not amped up, but more ramped up to just be ready to defend and make it harder for guys to make ground as much as you used to when we first went to some of the double-file restart stuff.”

AJ Allmendinger, No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet

“Las Vegas is one of my favorite mile-and-a-half racetracks. We’ve had really good speed there in the past and the spring race was really strong for our No. 16 team. We have the opportunity to be very competitive there and earn another top-10 finish.”

Ricky Stenhouse Jr., No. 47 Hyak Motorsports Chevrolet

“It’s great to have Real American Beer back on the car again this week. We’ve had some good speed lately, and Vegas is one of those places where anything can happen. We’re hoping to run up front and bring home a good finish.”

Michael McDowell, No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

In the spring you started on the pole, but you had issues mid race. What can you do differently to run up front this time?

“We had good speed until we ran into an issue with the rear diffuser. All our Spire Motorsports cars had good speed there. It was early in the year, without a lot of data points and not a huge notebook on how to go into race day. I feel like we have a better grasp on it this time around. Hopefully, we can bring back the same speed we had there the first time and execute a whole weekend.”

Carson Hocevar, No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

There’s been a lot of improvement for the No. 77 team since the first race at Las Vegas. Where do you feel like the biggest gain has been?

“Overall, I think we’re just better as a team. Spire won the pole at Las Vegas with McDowell, but then we got another at Texas and I feel like I’ve done better with qualifying lately. We’ve led laps and run up front, so I just think we’re better prepared this time around and have more info to pull from when it comes to our setup and how we adjust during the race.”

Shane van Gisbergen, No. 88 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet

What track do you feel like style-wise that you are gaining ground on?

“I think it’s two sort of stories. The road courses obviously have been amazing, and then the ovals — I started the year in the 30s, genuinely, which is very average, but I feel like we’ve grounded out, now we’re a 15th to 10th place car on most weeks. I think all tracks are difficult. Las Vegas this weekend, going there and having to hold it wide open at 190, it’s a crazy feeling and something I’m not comfortable with. It’s so fast when you hook into those corners there. Then when you do it in the race around other cars, that’s where I’m learning trying to get comfortable, know where to place the car in the air and try and understand what’s happening. It’s just taking time.”

Your livery this weekend resembles your home country, New Zealand, how special is this to you?

“It’s an awesome paint scheme, so special to have some influence on the design. It’s super cool to be able to show some of my kiwi heritage on the track this weekend in Las Vegas. To be able to have the Southern Cross, Silver Fern and the colors of New Zealand on my car – I was speechless when I first saw it. Just really special to me and I’m excited to be carrying huge momentum with my team into the weekend.”

How do you keep yourself level-headed to the job you have to do to perform on road courses when the storylines coming in is that wins are kind of a guarantee?

“I don’t think it’s a guarantee in this series. But I think it’s a nice feeling. I don’t feel any more pressure, but it’s nice people think so high of us now. It’s a cool feeling that everyone knows the 88’s going to be pretty good on road course weekends. I like that. You certainly feel a pretty good atmosphere in the shop on a road course week. My teammates are strong on road courses, as well. I don’t think it puts any more pressure or expectation from outside. I guess from other drivers and media, maybe. But I find it’s a nice feeling to have.”

Daniel Suarez, No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet

You came very close to winning the last two Cup races at Las Vegas. That must give you confidence entering the race this weekend.

“We did everything right earlier this season at Las Vegas. The Freeway Insurance team did a great job on pit road and Matt (Swiderdski, crew chief) did a great job on strategy. We struggled a little bit on the short runs but I’m confident we will be better this weekend. Running well this past weekend at the ROVAL was a boost for all of us.”

How important was it to run well last week at the ROVAL?

“Running well this past weekend at the ROVAL was a big deal for everyone on the No. 99 team for sure. Everyone at Trackhouse has been working so hard all season and it was great to have a good day. It’s important to have momentum entering Las Vegas this weekend where we’ve proven that we can run up front.”

Connor Zilisch, No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevrolet

“Las Vegas is one of the more important races that we will have this season and it’s a really good track for me. I loved racing there earlier this year. I’m excited that we get to go back there and I have an opportunity for redemption. We probably had a chance to win the race back in March, but I sped on pit road in the final stage, and we finished ninth. I know if we do our job this weekend, we’ll have a really good shot to win the race. To win there would be a big stress reliever because we would clinch a spot in the Championship 4.”

How do you and your teammates race together but not ruin someone’s chances to make it to the Championship 4 at Phoenix?

“It’s tough to balance that but I feel like all four of us have a good understanding and get along. We know when to be nice and like at the ROVAL, we were trying to help the 1 (Carson Kvapil) and the 8 (Sammy Smith) do what they could to get in. There wasn’t much that I could really do to help them, but our goal was to get the two of them through and I’m glad that it worked out. Sammy had a really good day at the ROVAL, and he has done a really good job growing as a road racer. Carson has done a really good job this year overall. Dale tells us all the time when you have four fast cars at the front there’s going to be times that things happen, but we try to do our best to manage it. I’ve tried to become a lot better at treating those guys the right way and I feel like I’ve gotten a little bit better at that.”

STAMPEDE OF SPEED AND TEXAS NHRA FALLNATIONALS BRINGS OUT BEST IN FUNNY CAR’S MATT HAGAN

ENNIS, Texas (Oct. 8, 2025) – Fresh off a win in St. Louis that has him right in the thick of the championship hunt, nobody is looking forward to returning to Texas Motorplex more than Funny Car standout Matt Hagan.

The four-time champ has enjoyed an incredible run at the legendary track, which plays host to the main event of the Stampede of Speed, this weekend’s 40th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals. Hagan is the back-to-back event winner of the crucial playoff race, but that’s only the start of his run of success in Dallas.

Hagan has advanced to the finals the last six years, dating back to 2019 when he picked up the victory. The veteran for Tony Stewart Racing has won five times overall at Texas Motorplex, which always bodes well for world title chances during the Countdown to the Championship.

Hagan closed the gap to 20 points on reigning world champ Austin Prock with his St. Louis triumph and with his track record of success at the Texas NHRA FallNationals, Hagan is eager to get back to work this weekend in his 12,000-horsepower Johnson’s Horsepowered Garage Dodge//SRT Hellcat.

“It’s always a dog fight with the Countdown to the Championship. We’re very blessed to be in the hunt and have an opportunity to win,” Hagan said. “We have a real opportunity to win this thing. The biggest thing we can do is just be ready. (Austin Prock and his) team, they’ve won eight races, so they’re the ones we’re all chasing. We’ve done a good job at putting ourselves in the position to win this thing at the end with three races left. We have to have three great races. We need to qualify well and I need to do well on the tree and keep it in the groove. We have to rise to the occasion.”

In 2024, Justin Ashley (Top Fuel), Hagan (Funny Car), Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) and Gaige Herrera (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won the Wally and the coveted Texas Motorplex cowboy hat. For this year’s race, the winners will receive a special, one-time only navy cowboy hat to commemorate the special 40th anniversary of the event.

The event will be broadcast on FS1 and FOX, with eliminations taking place on FOX on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 2 or 4:30 p.m. ET, depending on local listings.

The race, the 18th of 20 this year, starts with a bang with two qualifying rounds on Friday and the highly-anticipated “JEGS Friday Night Live,” featuring the popular “Battle for the Saddle.” It puts more than $40,000 in bonus money on the line for drivers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The low qualifier under the lights on Friday night will net Top Fuel and Funny Car stars $15,000 each in bonus money, with $7,500 going to the quickest qualifier in Pro Stock and $5,000 in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

As part of the Friday night festivities, fans are encouraged to wear black and yellow as part of a special “Black and Yellow Bash,” adding another thrilling aspect to “JEGS Friday Night Live” and the weekend’s 40th anniversary celebration.

Hagan knows about Friday success in Dallas, too, taking the top spot in 2022 during “JEGS Friday Night Live” en route to a runner-up finish. Prock took the No. 1 spot last year with a track-record run of 3.813-seconds and has enjoyed a brilliant season, winning eight times. But Hagan is right in the mix after winning in St. Louis – his second victory this year and 54th in his career – and he’s joined in Dallas by a host of title contenders, including Jack Beckman, Ron Capps, Daniel Wilkerson and Paul Lee.

Hagan, though, has enjoyed his 2025 campaign, as first-year crew chief Mike Knudsen and the team have performed well – and have had plenty of fun in the process.

“It’s just fun to show up for work and it’s a great work environment. To have a group like this, it’s just great,” Hagan said. “It was nice to close that gap a little. We’re back in this hunt and what we have to do is just be consistent. I’m proud of my guys for stepping up and hopefully we can keep carrying this forward. It’s anybody’s ballgame out there and it’s going to get tight. We closed the gap and hopefully we can try and take advantage of that and have a chance to win our fifth championship.”

Ashley will need another Top Fuel win in Dallas to remain in the title chase. He’s 86 points behind leader Doug Kalitta, who will aim to stay on top against a field that also includes Shawn Langdon, reigning champ Antron Brown, Tony Stewart and Brittany Force.

Five-time world champ Coughlin won at Texas Motorplex last season when he defeated Greg Anderson, who claimed his sixth Pro Stock world title in 2024. This season has been dominated by Anderson and Dallas Glenn, who is the points leader. Glenn has six wins in 2025, including two playoff races, while Anderson is right behind after his St. Louis triumph

Two-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champ Herrera won his second straight NHRA FallNationals last season over the six-time champ Matt Smith. Herrera moved to second in points following his St. Louis win, trailing teammate Richard Gadson by 29 points.

The Texas NHRA FallNationals will also feature thrilling competition in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, which includes some of the sport’s top drivers and begins racing on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The event is preceded by a Division 4 race in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at the historic facility. The weekend will include the finale of the exciting Holley EFI Factory X category and the Jr. Dragster Shootout.

Fans will also be treated to the JEG’s Allstars event, which pits sportsman racers from across the country against each other for the ultimate drag racing battle, beginning on Friday, Oct. 10. The popular competition moved to the famed Texas Motorplex in 2023, the unique specialty race is back as a major highlight of the 2025 Stampede of Speed as one of most highly-anticipated sportsman events of the year.

Leading into the race weekend, fans can take part in several events as part of the massive 10-day Stampede for Speed festival. That includes the popular NHRA FanFest at Railyard Park in downtown Waxahachie (October 9), where fans can meet and get autographs from all the top stars in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series and the JEGS Allstars participants.

At the track, fans will be invited to the Nitro Alley Stage in the pits for Nitro School, meet and greets, music and much more. Ryan Preece Heading to Las Vegas with Winning on his Mind

Ford Racing Notes and Quotes

Wednesday, October 8, 2025

Ryan Preece, driver of the No. 60 Crumbl/Sysco Ford Mustang Dark Horse for RFK Racing, is coming off a sixth-place finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race on the Charlotte ROVAL. That marked his 11th top-10 finish in 2025, which is a single-season high for the Connecticut native. He participated in this week’s Ford media call and talked about last weekend and his hopes for the remaining four races.

RYAN PREECE, No. 60 Crumbl/Sysco Racing Ford Mustang Dark Horse – YOU HAVE A LOT OF GOOD THINGS HAPPENING LATE IN THE SEASON. A NEW SPONSOR THIS WEEKEND AMONG THEM. “Honestly, the ROVAL was a nice way to kind of get back on track. I felt like there were definitely some runs in August and September that had a lot of potential, it just kind of seemed like we hit a rut and weren’t able to capitalize on some of the days we were having. The ROVAL seemed like it got us out of that slump, so heading to Las Vegas, having Crumbl Cookie and Sysco on the car is exciting for us. It’s a new partner for RFK and then going to Talladega and Martinsville and Phoenix, these next four races are all places that I enjoy going to. We’ve had some good results and a place that we’re going for a second time, so we can still try to capitalize and win before the season is over.”

THE NEXT INTERMEDIATE TRACK AFTER THIS ONE IS VEGAS AGAIN IN MARCH. HOW MUCH IS THIS WEEKEND ABOUT THIS WEEKEND AND IS THERE ANYTHING YOU MIGHT DO TO LOOK AHEAD TO NEXT YEAR? “That’s a great way of looking at it. For us, I feel like the mile-and-a-halves have been just progress and something I’ve grown more and more comfortable with, and really just leaning on Brad and Chris. Going to Las Vegas, where we had a solid run earlier this year, it’s kind of like a benchmark of, ‘hey, what can we do to continue to make progress and contend for a win.’ We had a strong qualifying effort and worked on the car throughout the day, so I feel like this is a place that we could definitely see progress. I feel a lot more comfortable in the cars and that makes me feel very optimistic going into it. The goal is still to win. Even though we’re not in the playoffs and RFK is not in the playoffs, that’s the goal for all three of our teams, so that’s the plan.”

HOW MUCH ARE YOU ABLE TO PAY ATTENTION TO THOSE IN THE PLAYOFFS OR THOSE YOU DON’T WANT TO ADVANCE IN THE PLAYOFFS? “I think that’s challenging. Every situation is different and at the end of the day we’re still racing for our team and the seasons that we still have going on. I didn’t make the playoff format. In other forms of sports, when you’re not in the playoffs, you’re not playing. Well, we’re still playing. We’re still a part of these races, so from a bigger picture standpoint within the Ford group, Joey and Ryan Blaney, we want the best for them. We want them to go to Phoenix and go get Ford another title, but, at the same time, going to Las Vegas, Talladega, Martinsville and Phoenix, we need to go capitalize for Jack, for the Fenway Group, for Brad and put ourselves in contention to win. If I just chose to ride around in 15th or 10th or whatever and not try to win the race, I wouldn’t be doing myself justice, my family justice or the team justice. Every situation is different, but I didn’t make this format, and I still have to race for my team.”

HOW DO YOU LEARN WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO AND NOT OVERWHELM YOU? “I think every situation is different and how you approach that, you can’t sit here and say that right now because you don’t know what it’s gonna be. You don’t know the situation you’re gonna be in or not be in, so with that being said, it’s really difficult to say what you’re going to do in the moment because as a race car driver your number one focus is to win. That is our job, and how I approach a weekend from a racing perspective as a race car driver is to win and you adjust your goals accordingly throughout that event. For me, I feel more prepared going into this Las Vegas race than I did earlier this season, so I’m looking forward to that.”

ARE YOU CLEAR WHAT THE RULES ARE ON WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO, OR IS IT A CASE WHERE EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT? “I’m not gonna wreck Joey Logano or Ryan Blaney or anybody to win, but if I’m leading at the end of that race, I don’t know. What am I gonna do, give up a win? So, at the end of the day if any competitor is faster than me and they’re able to beat me without me rolling over, then good for them. They won, but I’m not gonna lift.”

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET AROUND MARTINSVILLE AND TO HIT YOUR MARKS CONSISTENTLY? “Martinsville is a place that I’ve definitely been comfortable at, whether it was a modified or a Cup car, it’s been a place that we’ve had speed. I’m just comfortable. As far as what it takes to be fast around there, I feel like that’s something that you learn when you’re short track racing in your style when it comes to the shorter type of race track. For me, Martinsville just fits that style. It fits what I grew up racing, which even though it’s a half-mile racetrack, I’m used to racing on quarter-mile bullrings, so anything you can do to be fast at those places translates to Martinsville.”

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH HOW YOUR TEAM HAS PROGRESSED SINCE THE START OF THE SEASON? “I’ll be honest with you, I think it shocked a lot of people for a first-year team that has never been together or been at RFK as an organization, so I feel like we’ve executed and done a good job on being consistent and making progress outside of winning. A win would have locked us into the playoffs, but if you take away winning and you’re in, I see some things. I think we’d be like 12th or whatever in points and that’s not something to be upset with. I think that’s a solid foundation towards hopefully a really, really strong contending season next year. At the end of the day, all I can do is control the things that I can control. For me, I feel like we’ve made a lot of progress and we continue to make progress and even in moments of adversity we find a way to execute, so I see a really high ceiling on all fronts and that makes me feel really optimistic and excited about 2026.”

YOU HAVE DONE A LOT OF NEAT VIDEOS WITH YOUR SPONSORS. WHAT IS IT LIKE DOING THOSE BECAUSE IT ALLOWS US TO SEE YOUR PERSONALITY? “To be honest with you, I like all of the Kroger partners that we’ve had. Between Minute Rice, Cookie Crumbl, the pizza rolls last week, the list goes on and on. I would say RFK and Kroger have just given me the outlet for you guys to see it. Sometimes I guess it’s not up to me for TV or what-not to come over and ask questions are really just kind of show those things, so RFK I feel like has done a great job showing it because that’s how I am naturally. In moments when you need to be serious, I’m serious, but, at the same time, I feel like we have a great relationship at RFK between Chris, Brad and myself and it makes those things easy.”

WHAT HAS THIS YEAR MEANT TO YOU IN TERMS OF GROWTH AND HOW FUN HAS IT BEEN TO SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY OFF THE TRACK? “For me, perspective is everything. Coming from New England, coming from modifieds and the background that I come from, there have been different points in my career. There was Ryan Preece the race car driver. Then there was Ryan Preece that had to be a mechanic as well as a race car driver and have to take on a lot of different roles. Sometimes you need to simplify things and just focus on what your job is, so, for me, it was really tough to separate the guy who built race cars and was trying to understand the setup and why it wasn’t doing what it needed it to do, instead of just worrying about, ‘hey, this is what I need,’ or ‘this is what I need to turn better,’ or ‘I need to be tighter,’ or whatever it may be. So, I feel like coming over to RFK, a lot of conversations with my wife and great conversations with Brad as well as the relationship I already had with Chris, it was easy to just have honest conversations or at least listening and taking it from a different vantage point and how I needed to adjust myself. I feel like I had a lot of growth this year and that’s been nice.”

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM BRAD THIS YEAR? “Honestly, it would be really tough to put into words on just a Zoom call about how much I’ve really enjoyed working with Brad because I didn’t even realize some of the stories that I’ve learned along the way about him and his career and how many similarities there really are between his career and mine, so just how you have to work hard to get here. For me, that’s been really nice and seeing perspective and how I’ve looked at things and how he looks at things and areas to keep making better, so that’s been nice. My job moving forward is I want to win. Even though at the Cup Series level I haven’t won, I’ve won in everything I’ve ever been in and it’s something that I’m not OK, like even though we finished sixth at the ROVAL I find it difficult when people are like, ‘Oh yeah, we finished sixth,’ and they’re happy that week. Now, I’ve had five years of a challenging Cup career, so I find success in that, but I still as a race car driver and as a competitor I’m not OK with it because I want to win. There’s a burning desire to succeed and win and I feel like between these next four races as well as going through next season we’re gonna go do that, and I won’t stop until we do.”

WHERE HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST PROGRESS FOR YOU? “There are a few types of tracks that I would like to continue to build on, ones that I feel like I’ve had success with in the past. I think that’s the nice part about working with Brad as a car owner as well as a driver is he’s feeling the same things I’m feeling. It’s not like you’re talking about things in a meeting afterwards and you’re trying to decipher, ‘is he really feeling this or is it somewhere else?’ Typically, the conversations that Chris, Brad and myself are having is all things that are very similar and how can we make them better. I guess answering the previous question as well is we can streamline that process and that’s been nice.”

WHAT FACTORED INTO SUCH IMPROVEMENT IN THE SPRING LAS VEGAS RACE? “I think it was an execution of a lot of different things. The speed in the car. Good restart choices. Executing the race is ultimately what got us that third-place finish. I think between pit strategy, I remember there were two guys racing really hard at the end of that race taking air off each other that made us go from a fifth-place finish to a third-place finish and allowed us to capitalize on that, so that was just a group team effort between the car, Derrick’s great calls, the pit crew executing on pit road, and I felt like I did a good job on restarts. I felt like that was where we saw a lot of potential and built momentum for us. I think a lot of different things on that.”

APART FROM RUNNING A SMART RACE WHAT WILL TRANSLATE FROM THE SPRING TO THIS WEEKEND? “The last time I checked the weather it’s supposed to be in the mid-seventies, so it’s probably a relatively cool race for Las Vegas. It’s hard to say. From what I understand, it’s gonna be the Kansas tire. Kansas had a good amount of wear. As far as how you choose to manage those tires at a mile-and-a-half I’m not entirely sure yet. I felt like I did a pretty good job managing our tires at the ROVAL and taking care of them and understanding the situation after practice, so I don’t necessarily have a game plan set in stone because I feel like you need to see how practice and qualifying goes and then look through information and based off of feel make the best decisions on race day. It’s hard to say just yet, but I feel like we’re one step ahead of where we were when we went in March because this is a track that I felt like we had a lot of potential and hopefully we can go execute, we can do all of the things that we need to do and maybe win.”

WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON THE VEGAS TRACK? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART? “To me, Las Vegas is definitely what you just said, it’s one of the faster paced mile-and-a-halves, like true mile-and-a-halves. It has a lot of character. One and two has bumps, which can be pretty sketchy, but there’s multiple ways to make speed, so, for me, that’s what makes it really interesting about it. It’s kind of not the same as the old Atlanta, but there’s a lot of technique to getting around turns three and four and going where people don’t and trying to maximize that, so I think Las Vegas is definitely a place when we as drivers go to a mile-and-a-half, that’s one of the favorites.”

WAS THERE ANYTHING YOU COULD HAVE DONE BETTER IN THE SPRING THAT MIGHT MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS WEEKEND? “Yeah, I mean there are always things that I feel we can look back on and possibly do better. For me, it’s just continuing to zone in on the style that I want to be better at a mile-and-a-half, so I think we’ve made some gains and we’ll see this weekend.”

Zane Smith Notes

The NASCAR Cup Series returns to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend for the second time this season. In seven NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series starts at the Las Vegas, Nevada track, Smith has five top-10 finishes and one top-five finish. In the Cup Series, this weekend’s race marks Smith’s fourth start at the 1.5-mile intermediate speedway where he has a career best finish of 16th.

Long John Silver’s returns to the No. 38 Ford Mustang Dark Horse this weekend, partnering with Smith for the 267-lap event. Long John Silver’s is unwrapping a bold new logo at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway — putting chicken in the driver’s seat right alongside its legendary seafood. Fans know Long John Silver’s for wild-caught Alaskan fish and iconic seafood, but now the best chicken tenders in the industry are in pole position to get the attention they deserve with the No. 38 “Chick Yeah” scheme. This rebrand signals a modernized look and a focus on food innovation, like the new chicken wraps launching later this month, all while keeping Long John Silver’s seafood heritage firmly in the winner’s circle. Fans can find a Long John Silver’s location near them by visiting ljsilvers.com.

“It’s been a challenging past couple of weeks, but the team and I are looking forward to Vegas,” said Smith. “We qualified ninth there in the Spring, but the finish didn’t fall where we wanted it to. We have a good baseline for where we need to be in order to compete, but it comes down to putting together the full weekend and maximizing our potential. I have a lot of good memories racing at The Bullring with Noah Gragson, and it’s cool that I get to make more with Long John Silver’s new scheme at the Speedway.”
