“Big thanks to the [Toney Driver Development] boys,” said Brooks atop the podium. “The car was very easy to drive; I just had to keep the tires on it. Nathan [Toney] gave me a good pep talk last night about not over-pushing, and that played into my favor there at the end of the race. The team just gave me a great car, and they trained me up well. I was just having fun out there. These guys are really quick, as well, so it’s not easy, but we were able to do it. When they said there was a caution, I was a little bummed out, but I got some good info to get the turbos pulled up on the restart and that helped me a lot—yesterday I didn’t know that. I was able to get the launch on them and all I saw in my mirrors—I think it was Jett [Bowling] coming down three-wide on the inside and it was pretty dang close. I’m glad that everything worked out this weekend; we came and did what we wanted to do. I’m blessed.”

Some of the best racing of the day was between Sherlock and Bruno Ribeiro (No. 01 Alfa Cem / Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3), who were duking it out not just for position on the racetrack, but also for precious points in the championship battle. Entering VIR as the points leader, Ribeiro ran second to Brooks for most of the race, but Sherlock was never far off his gearbox. A restart with less than five minutes to go gave Sherlock the shot he needed to finally make his way around Ribeiro. Driving hard around the outside in the Horseshoe, Sherlock made his way around Ribeiro to not only take the runner-up spot, but also the points lead.

That same restart also gave Bowling an opportunity to sneak into third, as he had climbed through the field after starting the race last. While Sherlock sailed around the outside, Bowling ducked to the inside and raced wheel to wheel with Ribeiro all the way into Turn 3. Crossing over to take the preferred line, Bowling completed the pass as they exited the corner.

Seconds later, the field was once again slowed for a full-course caution, as Nicolas Ambiado (No. 55 Velox USA / Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) spun to a stop on the frontstretch after making contact during the restart. The Chilean had taken back the points lead after yesterday’s Race 1, but mechanical woes slowed his progress earlier in the race, giving Sherlock the opportunity he needed to climb ahead.

Blaney wins the Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire and advances to the round of 8

Ryan Blaney started the Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on the outside of the front row, led 116 laps, including the final 39 laps, and held off Josh Berry in the closing laps to win by .937 seconds in the opening race of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs’ Round of 12.

“Probably the hardest 20 laps I drove,” said Blaney. “Was trying to bide my stuff, and he [Berry] really started coming. He started to get super free, and it was all I could do to hold him off. It was good racing. Clean racing, and I appreciate Josh not throwing me the bumper when he could have.”

The Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire win automatically sends Blaney into the Round of 8 and a big lobster in victory lane.

“I’m looking forward to it and see how it tastes. I’ve wanted a lobster ever since I was a little kid coming to watch these races. I’ve always wanted one of those things, so I’m looking forward to it.” Blaney said.

Berry finished second after recovering from a spin on Lap 21.

“For one, we had a really good car. It was a grind for sure, but we had a really good car and we just chipped away at it. I kind of wish at times maybe we should have stayed out or took two tires. I don’t know, but we just kept putting four on it and kept moving forward and did it the old-fashioned way. It was a lot of fun.” Berry said of his recovery.

William Byron finished third for his career-best NCS finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“It was a good day overall for this No. 24 Raptor Chevrolet team. I felt like a lot of things that we’ve just kind of been building on for the short-tracks were working for us. I feel like New Hampshire Motor Speedway has been tricky for me in the Cup car. I felt like I was good in the other series, but this place in the Cup car has been tough on us. We’re just trying to build little bits here and there, and I just felt like we could really stack runs together. We had a couple of weak runs in Stage One and the start of Stage Two. But once we got that out of the way, I felt like we were really strong. The Penske guys were super-fast, like they were in another zip code. But I felt like, other than that, we were really competitive. Just really proud of our team. If we can just build on this, I think our short-track program will start coming together.” Byron said.

Polesitter Joey Logano led a race high of 147 laps and finished fourth.

“That last restart, I could have restarted behind him and probably finished third in the race, but I wanted a chance to win and if I was behind the 12, I wasn’t gonna win. I went for it, and it cost us a spot, but, overall, I’m proud of the execution. We obviously got a ton of points today. I think we got a second and a first in the first two stages and a top-four finish, so we did what we needed to do. We’re plus the cut line. I’d rather win. That’s just the greed in me, especially when it’s home.” Logano said.

Chase Elliott started 27th and rounded out the top-5 finishers.

“The day was good for the No. 9 NAPA Chevy team. Just hate we had to not pit for track position because you want to be up there in the mix. But the way it all worked out, we got some stage points there in Stage Two and got a good result with a top-five finish. We’ll go to Kansas (Speedway) and try it again.” Elliott said.

The Mobil 1 301 race featured eight caution flags for 45 laps, and 14 lead changes among seven drivers.

After New Hampshire, Ryan Blaney leads the Cup Series standings by two points over William Byron, eight points over Kyle Larson, 20 points over Christopher Bell, 22 points over Denny Hamlin, 25 points over Joey Logano, 35 points over Chase Elliott, and 37 points over Chase Briscoe. Currently, Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Tyler Reddick, and Bubba Wallace are below the cutoff line heading into Kansas.

AJ Allmendinger started the Mobil 1 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway from 12th-place. Overall Allmendinger remained happy with the handling of his No. 16 Campers Inn RV Chevy, reporting he struggled in traffic and the rear of the car was free on exit. On the second to last pit stop of the day, under green flag, the jack dropped before the left front was tight. The team was able to jack the car up to tighten the tire, but fell a lap down during the pit cycle. A timely caution fell shortly after while Allmendinger was in the free pass position. Allmendinger battled back to finish in 20th.

No. 10 Sea Best Camaro ZL1

Ty Dillon and the No. 10 Sea Best Chevy team qualified 30th for Sunday’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Focused on improving the No. 10 Chevy, the Sea Best team made routine stops throughout the 301-lap event, but with track position being key, the team was unable to advance through the field and finished the Mobil 1 301 in the 29th position.

BILLY BANAKA GETS FIRST CAREER CONGRUITY NHRA PRO MOD WIN AT NHRA 4-WIDE CAROLINA NATIONALS

CONCORD, N.C. (Sept. 21, 2025) – In a wild final round, Billy Banaka picked up his first career victory in the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series on Sunday at zMAX Dragway, defeating Mike Castellana, Sidnei Frigo and Mason Wright in a chaotic final quad at the NHRA 4-Wide Carolina Nationals.

It marked the second of the category’s four-race “Road to the Championship” playoffs and the event, which is the eighth of 10 in 2025, was powered by Shelton Insurance and Real Estate in Charlotte.

Banaka went red at the starting line, but Wright rolled the starting line beams before him and both Frigo and Castella left before the tree was activated. Banaka then went 6.551-seconds at 140.63 mph and narrowly missed crossing the starting line. But he still picked up the victory in what was the first-ever playoff four-wide race in NHRA Pro Mod history.

“It’s very memorable. It was a little screwed up, but I thought I’d lost, really,” said Banaka. “I think the whole thing was a mess up, but it worked out in my favor. I’d like to thank my wife for being here, my crew chief, my whole family at home, my kids and my whole crew. They did a great job.”

The wild win, which was the first of Banaka’s career in Congruity NHRA Pro Mod, also sent him into the points lead, as he now leads Mike Stavrinos by 34 points with two races remaining. Stavrinos, who won in Indy to open the postseason, didn’t qualify in Charlotte and was bumped to second. Frigo is currently third, 55 points back of Banaka, and Wright is 65 points behind in fourth.

Banaka went 5.714 at 250 to win his opening-round quad and he followed with a 5.715 at 249.21 to advance to the championship round.
