Gilliland has built himself an impressive resume at the Kansas Speedway in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, earning one top-five, and three top-10’s in five starts at the track. In the Cup Series, Gilliland has six starts with a career best finish of 14th.

Noah Gragson Notes

Rush Truck Centers returns this weekend in the brand’s fourth primary race with Noah Gragson and the No. 4 Ford Mustang Dark Horse team as the NASCAR Cup Series heads to the Kansas Speedway.

Gragson has had his fair share of success at the 1.5-mile Kansas City, Kansas speedway. He started from the pole and dominated the May 2018 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series race, leading 128 of 167 laps en route to victory. In the Xfinity Series, Gragson has made five starts at the track, earning three top-15 finishes and one win. In the Cup Series, his best result in five starts is a ninth-place finish, notching that finish with crew chief Drew Blickensderfer at Stewart-Haas Racing

“I’ve always run pretty strong at Kansas,” said Gragson. “I don’t know if I’d say it’s my absolute favorite track, but it’s definitely been good to me over the years. I’ve been able to figure it out pretty well—I’ve got a win there in Xfinity, one in Trucks, and we’ve shown some solid pace in the Cup car too. Even if the finishes haven’t always reflected it, we’ve had strong runs. Going back to Kansas, especially knowing how we ran last Spring and pulled off a top-10 with a ninth-place finish, it’s something I’m excited about. There’s confidence there. It’s a place I feel comfortable, and I know what I need out of the car. Now it’s just about putting together the full weekend—execution, adjustments, and capitalizing on the speed we’ve got. If we do that, I think we can put ourselves in a great spot again.”

The Kansas Speedway is up next for Layne Riggs and the No. 34 Ford F-150 team. After winning back-to-back races at the Milwaukee Mile (8/25) and Bristol Motor Speedway (9/19) in 2024, Riggs came close to earning his third career NASCAR Cup Series win in back-to-back-to-back races after finishing second in the series’ Fall visit to the 1.5-mile, Kansas City, Kansas speedway.

In the Xfinity Series, Smith has two starts with a career best finish of third at the track.

Following last week’s race at the Texas Motor Speedway, Smith remains second in the NCTS Driver Championship points standings and is just 46 points behind points leader, Corey Heim. Through the first eight races of the season, Smith hasn’t finished worse than 16th.

Berry Hoping to Continue Intermediate-Track Success at Kansas

When it comes to racing on the intermediate, 1.5-mile ovals on NASCAR’s Cup Series circuit, Josh Berry and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team have been among the fastest this year. They won at Las Vegas, started second, led two laps and finished 17th at Homestead and started seventh and led 41 laps before spinning from the lead last week at Texas.

Now it’s on to another intermediate track, Kansas Speedway. While all those tracks are look-alikes for the most part, each has its own characteristics, and that means teams like the Wood Brothers have to adjust their cars to adapt to each track’s unique features.

Berry said that at Kansas, the key is to be good in every groove of the racing surface.

“I think it just really boils down to the Next Gen era of racing, and it’s so hard to follow each other,” he said. “If your car is really good on the top, that’s great, but if you can’t move down to get some clean air, you’re not going to be able to pass. So, it’s just important to be good in multiple lanes because that way you can navigate racing through the field. But even if you’re the leader, you need to be able to navigate and pass lap traffic and make good lap time. I think that’s why [Kansas Speedway] seems to promote such good racing, because it has multiple lanes and allows us options to have side-by-side battles.”

Practice for the AdventHealth 400 is set for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Central Time (4:30 Eastern) to be followed by qualifying at 4:40 (5:40 Eastern). Amazon Prime will carry the TV coverage. Sunday’s 267-lap, 400.5-mile race is scheduled to get under way just after 2 p.m. (3 p.m. Eastern) with TV coverage on FS1. Stage breaks are planned for Laps 80 and 165.

Young’s Motorsports Taps Jayson Alexander to Drive No. 02 Chevrolet for North Wilkesboro Debut

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: Young’s Motorsports is thrilled to announce that Jayson Alexander will pilot the No. 02 Constant Contact Chevrolet Silverado at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway on Saturday, May 17, 2025, marking his NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series debut at the historic short track.

Alexander is not only a talented driver with experience in the ARCA Menards Series and CARS Tour, but he also balances a rigorous schedule as a full-time student at Queens University, where he plays Division I lacrosse and is a member of the ROTC program.

This makes him the only driver actively competing in a Division I sport while simultaneously pursuing a career in NASCAR —an inspiring testament to his drive, discipline and dedication.

“I am super excited to be joining such a storied organization in Young’s Motorsports,” said Alexander. “I cannot thank Tyler and the entire Young family enough for giving me this opportunity.

“I also want to thank our amazing partner, Constant Contact, for continuing to support me as our primary partner for the 2025 campaign. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of our No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado at North Wilkesboro!”

Young’s Motorsports team principal, Tyler Young, is excited to welcome another ambitious young driver to the team’s lineup, as Jayson Alexander joins a growing roster that includes Nathan Byrd, who has competed in the majority of the 2025 season behind the wheel of the team’s flagship No. 02 Chevrolet.

“We are excited to bring Jayson on board for his 2025 season debut,” added Young. “He’s done a great job in every series he’s competed in, and we believe he has the talent and determination to make a name for himself in racing.

Toyota GAZOO Racing Weekly Preview 05.07.25

This Week in Motorsports: May 5 – 11, 2025

· NCS/NCTS/ARCA: Kansas Speedway – May 9-11

· FORMULA DRIFT: Road Atlanta – May 9-11

PLANO, Texas (May 7, 2025) – NASCAR heads to the heartland of America and Kansas Speedway for the first of two visits this season in a packed weekend involving the Cup and Truck Series, as well as the ARCA Menards Series. Formula DRIFT is back on track this weekend, taking on Road Atlanta for the second race of their 2025 campaign.

NASCAR National Series – NCS/NXS

Heim makes first Cup start of 2025 … Toyota Development Driver Corey Heim will make his 2025 season debut in the NASCAR Cup Series this weekend at Kansas Speedway in the No. 67 Toyota Camry XSE for 23XI Racing. As part of his development driver deal with 23XI Racing, Heim will make select Cup Series starts this season in the No. 67, beginning this weekend. While it will only be his fourth career Cup Series start, Heim does return to a known race track for him in a Cup car, as he filled in for Erik Jones last season at Kansas in the No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB.

LEGACY MOTOR CLUB coming off double top-10 … Last weekend in Texas provided a boost for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB as both of its Toyota Camry XSEs finished inside the top-10 with Jones in fifth and John Hunter Nemechek in eighth. The result was Jones’ first top-five and top-10 of the year, while for Nemechek, it was his third top-10 in a strong start to the season, while also climbing three spots in the series points standings.

Favorable Kansas for Bell, Hamlin … Kansas Speedway has become a favorite track for many drivers across the NASCAR Cup Series, including for Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin. Bell comes into the weekend looking for his fourth consecutive pole position at Kansas and fifth overall, which would tie him for the most all-time at the mile-and-a-half track. He also has top-10s in six of the last seven Kansas races. For Hamlin, he goes for his eighth consecutive top-10 finish at Kansas, and 10th in the last 12 races, which includes his victories in 2019, 2020 and 2023. Another victory at Kansas would be Hamlin’s fifth, adding to his track-best mark.

Heim seeks third straight Kansas triumph … In addition to his Cup Series duties this weekend, Heim has his sights set on continuing his dominance in the 2025 Truck Series season along with strong past results at Kansas Speedway. Last weekend’s victory at Texas was the third for Heim this season in just eight races, as he extended his series points lead. He now comes back to Kansas where his TRICON Garage No. 11 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro has been the truck to beat of late. Heim won both races at Kansas last season, leading 143 of 268 laps across both events. Another win on Saturday would also move Heim solely into third all-time in Truck Series wins with Toyota at 15.

Breidinger back at favorable Kansas … For the second time in her young Truck Series career, Toni Breidinger takes on Kansas Speedway this weekend for TRICON Garage in the No. 5 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Breidinger made her Truck Series debut at Kansas in 2023, finishing 15th, which made history as the best result for a female in her Truck Series debut. Breidinger has also found success at Kansas in the ARCA Menards Series, capturing top-10s in four of her eight career starts.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series

Toyota goes for fourth straight win … After Lawless Alan’s victory at Talladega two weeks ago, Toyota comes to this weekend’s ARCA Menards Series race looking for its fourth straight victory to begin the season. The Toyota Camry lineup will be strong at Kansas, with William Sawalich returning to the No. 18 for Joe Gibbs Racing and Isabella Robusto back in her usual No. 55 for Venturini Motorsports, among others. Robusto also returns to Kansas Speedway off claiming her first career pole position last September. Another Toyota triumph this weekend would be the manufacturer’s 12th ARCA win at Kansas Speedway and fifth in the last six races.

Formula DRIFT

Aasbø goes for two straight wins to begin 2025 … With the return of Formula DRIFT this weekend at Road Atlanta, Fredric Aasbø looks for two straight victories to begin the 2025 season, and his second straight at Road Atlanta as well. Another triumph or podium this weekend for Aasbø will be paramount as he aims to continue his strong start to a championship chase.

“This week at Kansas Speedway we are focused on building off of the success of last weekend at Texas. We were really strong, and each week we just try to add another five percent more to our program to try to get a little bit better and turn that top 12 into a top eight or top five. And when you are running in the top 10 in the Cup Series, you have a chance to win. So, we’re knocking on that door. Both AJ (Allmendinger) and I have had great runs week in and week out. We’re trying to fine tune and find a little bit more speed each week and give ourselves a shot at victory lane.” – Ty Dillon on Kansas Speedway
