Team AlUla pushes through unlucky weekend in Lagos

Team AlUla Championed by LeBron James showed determination and promise at the E1 Lagos GP presented by FirstBank, delivering strong pace throughout a demanding weekend that didn’t fully reflect their potential in the final results.

The sixth and penultimate round of the UIM E1 World Championship presented by PIF (E1) took place in Lagos, Nigeria — marking the series’ first-ever race in Africa. The historic event attracted huge local interest, with six fan zones across the city and over 18,000 ticket requests, underscoring the sport’s growing global appeal.

With regular pilots Catie Munnings and Rusty Wyatt unavailable due to prior commitments, Spain’s Nerea Martí and Norway’s Andrè Solvang stepped in to represent Team AlUla for the Lagos event. The team focused on integrating the two rookie pilots quickly, prioritising familiarisation, confidence building and data collection during shakedown sessions. Their rapid adaptation was evident in Free Practice, where Nerea topped her session and Andrè finished an impressive P2.

Confidence was high heading into qualifying, with both pilots showing strong, consistent pace. Unfortunately, Nerea picked up debris on the RaceBird’s hydrofoils during her timed laps, affecting performance. Andrè maintained the momentum with another P2 but the combined results placed the team just outside the top five. A subsequent sensor failure ahead of the Qualifying Race further limited Nerea’s ability to control the RaceBird’s handling — a tough setback after earlier promise.

Sunday brought additional challenges, as heavy storms and lightning disrupted the race schedule with a cancelled group of races which reduced opportunities to recover from qualifying. The extreme weather also washed large amounts of debris into the course, turning each race into a test of endurance and luck, with multiple teams affected.

Despite these obstacles, Andrè delivered an outstanding performance in the first race on Sunday, climbing from fifth to third and keeping Team AlUla in contention for a place in the final. However, in the remaining two races, debris again caused havoc and compromised performance despite the pilots’ relentless efforts to clear their foils and maintain pace.

While the final result in Lagos was not as hoped, the team’s performance demonstrated clear progress, resilience and competitive speed. With only ten points separating Team AlUla from a top-five position in the overall standings, the squad remains focused and motivated heading into next month’s E1 season-finale in Miami (7-8 November).

I was really looking forward to taking part in a championship weekend to test myself and see where I stand, and I enjoyed it so much – it’s something completely different after spending my entire career racing on asphalt. JEGS ALLSTARS GETS MAJOR SPOTLIGHT AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX FOR STAMPEDE OF SPEED AND TEXAS NHRA FALLNATIONALS

ENNIS, Texas (Oct. 6, 2025) – The JEGS Allstars has quickly become a major highlight as part of Texas Motorplex’s Stampede of Speed, and the historic specialty race returns to the famed facility for a third straight year during the upcoming Texas NHRA FallNationals on Oct. 8-12.

The event moved to the track in 2023 and has continued to grow – both in action and prestige – and will be a huge part of the upcoming Texas NHRA FallNationals, which celebrates its 40th year in 2025.

It’s become a marquee attraction during the massive Stampede of Speed at Texas Motorplex, with the world’s top drivers in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competing in the unique event.

Now celebrating its 41st year, the JEGS Allstars specialty race features several special events, including the driver and team welcome breakfast sponsored by Hoosier Racing Tires on Thursday, Oct. 9 and drivers participating in the Stampede of Speed Pre-Stage Fan Fest later that evening in downtown Waxahachie.

Following the opening ceremonies on Friday, Oct. 10, eliminations will take place, including the semifinals in the Top Alcohol categories immediately after the opening qualifying session in Top Fuel and Funny Car. All JEGS Allstars participants will parade in front of the packed stands on Friday night during the JEGS Friday Night Live professional qualifying session. The final rounds in the JEGS Allstars are slated for 1:50 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 11 as champions will be crowned to cap off two thrilling days of racing action in the specialty event.

Like the last two years, competitors will enjoy Texas-sized traditions, including custom t-shirts and decals for drivers and teams, a custom trophy and a custom-made JEGS Allstars belt buckle for the winners, and the traditional custom-fit Texas Motorplex cowboy hats for winners.

“The JEGS Allstars has become a major addition to the Stampede of Speed and Texas Fall Nationals lineup and we are thrilled to have it back,” Texas Motorplex Co-Owner Christie Meyer Johnson said. “Having racers from all over the country race in an all-star event brings a lot of prestige to the Fall Nationals. For more than four decades, the JEGS Allstars has brought out the best from across NHRA’s seven divisions for the specialty race. The unique event crowns individual champions in 10 separate classes, in addition to the overall team title.

Racers qualified for the prestigious event by earning points in their home divisions during year-long battles in the following categories — Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Competition, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman.

The JEGS Allstars event will be shown live on NHRA.tv during the race weekend and also featured on the NHRA on FOX Lucas Oil Sportsman show.

Three-Way Mazda MX-5 Cup Title Fight Heads to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta

BRASLETON, Ga. (Oct. 6, 2025) – The 20th season of Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin is set to come to a dramatic close this week with Rounds 13 and 14 at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The quest for the $250,000 championship prize has come down to three drivers, all of whom are chasing their first-ever Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup title.

One driver in particular is very familiar with this situation; Jeremy Fletcher (No. 22 McCumbee McAleer Racing) came into last year’s finale with the championship lead only to have his title hopes crushed with a DNF in Race 1. He returns to the finale once again with a slim championship lead and focused on not repeating his fate.

“I’m feeling good going into Road Atlanta this year, which is very similar to last year,” Fletcher said. “I don’t think we lacked pace or confidence last year, it was just a bit of bad luck. I know the MMR guys are going to provide me with the car to get the job done, I just have to keep calm and do my job.”

Nathan Nicholson (No. 56 Advanced Autosports) has spent the most time atop the point standings this year, but he was knocked out of the top spot after Fletcher put in a dominating performance in Rounds 11 and 12 at VIRginia International Raceway. Though he has yet to win a MX-5 Cup race, Nicholson’s consistency has put him firmly in the championship battle, just 50 points shy of Fletcher.

“I’m definitely looking forward to the season finale,” Nicholson said. “It’s been an amazing season so far and I truly believe I have the right people around me to make this happen. We just have to go out and continue to do what we have been doing all season.”

Tyler Gonzalez (No. 57 BSI Racing) has had a season opposite that of Nicholson. Gonzalez has won more races than any other driver this season (five) but has never led the point standings and comes into the finale third, because of two DNFs and a handful of mediocre race finishes.

“We are heading into the season finale at Road Atlanta with a bigger points deficit than I would like,” Gonzalez said. “With that being said, I have full confidence in our speed at Road Atlanta and we’re going to fight for this championship and every position until the very last corner.”

Gonzalez isn’t exaggerating; the final lap of the season finale races are often some of the most hair-raising moments of the season. With $250,000 on the line, it’s easy to understand why.

The season champion isn’t the only one who will walk away with a big check at the awards banquet; the Rookie of the Year is set to receive $80,000. This year it will come down to one of three drivers: Ethan Goulart (No. 29 Saito Motorsports Group), Helio Meza (No. 27 BSI Racing) or Noah Harmon (No. 7 BSI Racing). Goulart started his rookie season with a runner-up finish at Daytona and broke through for a victory at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, making him the only rookie to score a race win this season. He heads into the final weekend 80 points ahead of Meza and 90 points clear of Harmon.

Since partnering with IMSA as a sanctioning body, MX-5 Cup has only had two champions, both two-time winners: Jared Thomas (No. 96 JTR Motorsports Engineering) and Gresham Wagner (No. 81 RAFA Racing by MMR). Neither are in contention for the title this year, but both are more than capable of winning races at Road Atlanta.

Former MX-5 Cup Rookie of the Year pilots Westin Workman (No. 13 BSI Racing) and Nate Cicero (No. 83 McCumbee McAleer Racing) are another pair of drivers that could easily collect a race win at Road Atlanta this week.

Since 2018, the Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship has come down to the final race of the season. This year will be no different, forcing drivers to claw for each and every position to the very end. And that’s why MX-5 Cup at Road Atlanta is a true spectacle.

Race 1 takes place Thursday at 2:10pm ET. Race 2 will begin at 9:35am ET on Friday. Both races will be streamed live on the IMSA and RACER YouTube channels.

Eric Filgueiras Returns to Forte Racing for Petit Le Mans Season Finale

Filgueiras will join full-season drivers Misha Goikhberg and Mario Farnbacher in the No. 78 Huntress Forte Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 as the team looks to close out the season on a high note.

After impressing in his debut outing with Forte Racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Filgueiras is eager to build on that momentum and help the team pursue its second Petit Le Mans victory.
