Alexander is not only a talented driver with experience in the ARCA Menards Series and CARS Tour, but he also balances a rigorous schedule as a full-time student at Queens University, where he plays Division I lacrosse and is a member of the ROTC program.

This makes him the only driver actively competing in a Division I sport while simultaneously pursuing a career in NASCAR —an inspiring testament to his drive, discipline and dedication.

“I am super excited to be joining such a storied organization in Young’s Motorsports,” said Alexander. “I cannot thank Tyler and the entire Young family enough for giving me this opportunity.

“I also want to thank our amazing partner, Constant Contact, for continuing to support me as our primary partner for the 2025 campaign. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of our No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado at North Wilkesboro!”

Young’s Motorsports team principal, Tyler Young, is excited to welcome another ambitious young driver to the team’s lineup, as Jayson Alexander joins a growing roster that includes Nathan Byrd, who has competed in the majority of the 2025 season behind the wheel of the team’s flagship No. 02 Chevrolet.

“We are excited to bring Jayson on board for his 2025 season debut,” added Young. “He’s done a great job in every series he’s competed in, and we believe he has the talent and determination to make a name for himself in racing.

“Our team is committed to supporting him and building a fast race truck to help him succeed in this series.”

In addition to North Wilkesboro, Alexander will return to Young’s Motorsports in NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series competition at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on July 25 and New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September 20.

The Apex, N.C. native made his NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series debut last summer at The Milwaukee Mile driving an entry for Floridan Motorsports.

Toyota GAZOO Racing Weekly Preview 05.07.25

This Week in Motorsports: May 5 – 11, 2025

· NCS/NCTS/ARCA: Kansas Speedway – May 9-11

· FORMULA DRIFT: Road Atlanta – May 9-11

PLANO, Texas (May 7, 2025) – NASCAR heads to the heartland of America and Kansas Speedway for the first of two visits this season in a packed weekend involving the Cup and Truck Series, as well as the ARCA Menards Series. Formula DRIFT is back on track this weekend, taking on Road Atlanta for the second race of their 2025 campaign.

NASCAR National Series – NCS/NXS

Heim makes first Cup start of 2025 … Toyota Development Driver Corey Heim will make his 2025 season debut in the NASCAR Cup Series this weekend at Kansas Speedway in the No. 67 Toyota Camry XSE for 23XI Racing. As part of his development driver deal with 23XI Racing, Heim will make select Cup Series starts this season in the No. 67, beginning this weekend. While it will only be his fourth career Cup Series start, Heim does return to a known race track for him in a Cup car, as he filled in for Erik Jones last season at Kansas in the No. 43 Toyota Camry XSE for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB.

LEGACY MOTOR CLUB coming off double top-10 … Last weekend in Texas provided a boost for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB as both of its Toyota Camry XSEs finished inside the top-10 with Jones in fifth and John Hunter Nemechek in eighth. The result was Jones’ first top-five and top-10 of the year, while for Nemechek, it was his third top-10 in a strong start to the season, while also climbing three spots in the series points standings.

Favorable Kansas for Bell, Hamlin … Kansas Speedway has become a favorite track for many drivers across the NASCAR Cup Series, including for Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin. Bell comes into the weekend looking for his fourth consecutive pole position at Kansas and fifth overall, which would tie him for the most all-time at the mile-and-a-half track. He also has top-10s in six of the last seven Kansas races. For Hamlin, he goes for his eighth consecutive top-10 finish at Kansas, and 10th in the last 12 races, which includes his victories in 2019, 2020 and 2023. Another victory at Kansas would be Hamlin’s fifth, adding to his track-best mark.

Heim seeks third straight Kansas triumph … In addition to his Cup Series duties this weekend, Heim has his sights set on continuing his dominance in the 2025 Truck Series season along with strong past results at Kansas Speedway. Last weekend’s victory at Texas was the third for Heim this season in just eight races, as he extended his series points lead. He now comes back to Kansas where his TRICON Garage No. 11 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro has been the truck to beat of late. Heim won both races at Kansas last season, leading 143 of 268 laps across both events. Another win on Saturday would also move Heim solely into third all-time in Truck Series wins with Toyota at 15.

Breidinger back at favorable Kansas … For the second time in her young Truck Series career, Toni Breidinger takes on Kansas Speedway this weekend for TRICON Garage in the No. 5 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Breidinger made her Truck Series debut at Kansas in 2023, finishing 15th, which made history as the best result for a female in her Truck Series debut. Breidinger has also found success at Kansas in the ARCA Menards Series, capturing top-10s in four of her eight career starts.

NASCAR Regional Series – ARCA Menards Series

Toyota goes for fourth straight win … After Lawless Alan’s victory at Talladega two weeks ago, Toyota comes to this weekend’s ARCA Menards Series race looking for its fourth straight victory to begin the season. The Toyota Camry lineup will be strong at Kansas, with William Sawalich returning to the No. 18 for Joe Gibbs Racing and Isabella Robusto back in her usual No. 55 for Venturini Motorsports, among others. Robusto also returns to Kansas Speedway off claiming her first career pole position last September. Another Toyota triumph this weekend would be the manufacturer’s 12th ARCA win at Kansas Speedway and fifth in the last six races.

Formula DRIFT

Aasbø goes for two straight wins to begin 2025 … With the return of Formula DRIFT this weekend at Road Atlanta, Fredric Aasbø looks for two straight victories to begin the 2025 season, and his second straight at Road Atlanta as well. Another triumph or podium this weekend for Aasbø will be paramount as he aims to continue his strong start to a championship chase.

“This week at Kansas Speedway we are focused on building off of the success of last weekend at Texas. We were really strong, and each week we just try to add another five percent more to our program to try to get a little bit better and turn that top 12 into a top eight or top five. And when you are running in the top 10 in the Cup Series, you have a chance to win. So, we’re knocking on that door. Both AJ (Allmendinger) and I have had great runs week in and week out. We’re trying to fine tune and find a little bit more speed each week and give ourselves a shot at victory lane.” – Ty Dillon on Kansas Speedway

NASCAR vs. Formula 1: Who’s Winning the Race for Innovation?

The world of motorsports has long been a breeding ground for technological advances, engineering feats, and adrenaline-pumping competition. Among the most iconic racing leagues, NASCAR and Formula 1 stand out, captivating fans with their speed, strategy, and innovation. But when it comes to technological advances, which motorsport leads? This blog dives into the comparison, exploring the innovative leaps these two legendary racing organizations have taken.

The Culture of NASCAR Innovation

NASCAR, deeply rooted in American culture, emphasizes close racing, robust machines, and fan engagement. While initially perceived as sticking to tradition, NASCAR has significantly increased its focus on innovation in recent years.

Key Innovations in NASCAR:

  1. The Next Gen Car

  – Introduced in 2022, NASCAR’s Next Gen car is designed for improved aerodynamics, enhanced safety features, and cost-efficiency for teams. Key upgrades include independent rear suspension and the introduction of centralized lug nuts for faster pit stops.

  1. Hybrid Technology

  – NASCAR is taking steps towards sustainability by planning to integrate hybrids into its stock cars in the near future. While still delivering the roar fans love, hybrid technology represents NASCAR’s commitment to environmental innovations.

  1. Fan-Centric Experiences

Beyond the racing action, NASCAR has embraced fan-software innovations. Apps now allow viewers to toggle between in-car cameras, track stats in real-time, and even interact directly through live polls or chats during events.

The sport is balancing its legendary appeal with a nod toward the future in a way that resonates with car enthusiasts. If you’re a proud owner of a race-inspired vehicle, leverage a car selling website to sell your car at a fair price and connect with other speed enthusiasts.

Formula 1’s Technological Mastery

Formula 1, on the other hand, has long been associated with engineering wizardry and cutting-edge technologies. The global stage often sees F1 setting trends that mainstream automotive manufacturers later adopt for consumer vehicles.

Key Innovations in Formula 1:

  1. Pioneering Aerodynamics

  – Formula 1 is synonymous with aerodynamic innovation. Features like the DRS (Drag Reduction System) and ground-effect technologies help cars achieve mind-boggling speeds while enhancing cornering grip.

  1. Hybrid Power Units

  – Since 2014, every F1 car has been powered by highly efficient hybrid units. These engines recover energy from braking (MGU-K) and the turbo (MGU-H), making them some of the most efficient internal combustion engines in existence.

  1. Driver Safety Advancements

  – Formula 1 spearheaded the development of the Halo device, a head protection system that has saved lives since its introduction. Their focus on building safer cars is a technological game-changer.

  1. Big Data & AI

  – Formula 1 teams like Mercedes and Red Bull utilize millions of data points collected during each lap to analyze performance and optimize strategies. AI and simulations are now integral parts of the racing process, providing a high-tech edge on and off the track.

Formula 1 continuously pushes boundaries, consistently making strides in both performance and sustainability. If you’re selling a Formula 1-inspired vehicle, don’t forget to list your car for sale on platforms targeting motorsports lovers!

NASCAR vs. Formula 1: Who Comes Out Ahead?

When comparing innovation in NASCAR and Formula 1, the defining factor boils down to purpose. NASCAR focuses on delivering thrilling, fan-friendly, close-quarters racing while incorporating modern tech without losing its traditional essence. Formula 1, on the other hand, prioritizes cutting-edge solutions and technological breakthroughs that influence global automotive industries.

It’s not necessarily about one being better than the other. Both leagues embody innovation in unique ways, catering to their respective audiences.

The Bottom Line for Enthusiasts

Whether you love NASCAR’s side-by-side battles or revel in the engineering brilliance of Formula 1, innovation keeps both motorsports alive and evolving. For those looking to immerse themselves in the world of fast cars, perhaps it’s time to go beyond spectating. Use a trusted car selling website to find your dream car or list your car for sale to other motorsport aficionados.

Motorsports lovers, the real race is in innovation, and both NASCAR and Formula 1 are winners.

During his remarkable career, he won three times (2008, 2011, and 2015) at the mile and a half Midwest track. In addition to his victories, Johnson has earned nine top five and 19 top 10s, all while leading a total of 601 laps. He also has seven top-fives and 13 top-10s.

TEXAS TWO-STEP: LEGACY MC entries of John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones both secured top 10 finishes at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend. Both drivers overcame in-race penalties and fell deep in the running order.

NEVER SETTLE: Fans can join ESPN’s Marty Smith and Johnson for their weekly podcast, “Never Settle”. The podcast airs live on SIRIUS XM NASCAR Radio Ch. 90 at 2 p.m. ET every Wednesday and can be downloaded wherever fans source their podcasts. This week’s guest is Kasey Kahne, a NASCAR and dirt race driver and former teammate of Johnson.

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK
NO. 42 DOLLAR TREE TOYOTA CAMRY XSE
TOP-10: Nemechek is coming off a top 10 at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend. The result marked his third top 10 of the 2025 season. With the result, he moved up three spots in the driver point standings from 26th to 23rd and sits just seven points out of 20th.

JHN AT KANSAS: Nemechek has been dominant in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) at Kansas Speedway, winning two of his three starts. He boasts an impressive average start of 11.7 and an average finish of 3.3, having never placed outside the top 10. He’s also led 218 laps in NXS competition at the track. In the NASCAR Cup Series, Nemechek has made four starts at Kansas, with a best finish of 13th coming in the spring of 2024.

T-MACK AT KANSAS: Travis Mack has nine NCS starts as a crew chief at the Kansas Speedway. Of those starts, he has one top-10 and four top-15 finishes. During his time in the NXS, he has four starts. Mack earned one pole, which happened in 2020 with driver Michael Annett behind the wheel.

JOHN HUNTER NEMECHEK QUOTE:

“You need to be able to run all over the track—clean air is crucial. You’ve got to be fast on the bottom, the middle, and up against the fence. There are several ways to find speed at Kansas, but ultimately, the key is moving around and figuring out where your car works best as the track evolves throughout the race.”

TRAVIS MACK QUOTE:

“Keep building on our mile-and-a-half program and build off last weekend at Texas [Motor Speedway]. Thankfully, we’re going to a similar racetrack, it’s a little different tire fall off and how you run the fence at Kansas, but very similar setups. Hopefully, we can carry over what we had at Texas to this weekend.”

ERIK JONES
NO. 43 ADVENTHEALTH TOYOTA CAMRY XSE
FIFTH AT TEXAS: Jones is rolling into Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 on a wave of momentum as he earned his first top five result of the 2025 season after finishing fifth last Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway. After a roller coaster of a race that had Jones fall to the rear of the field twice due to pit road penalties, he persevered and showed off the speed in his No. 43 AdventHealth Toyota Camry XSE to find his way in the top five by the checkered flag.

JONES KANSAS STATS: From one intermediate track to another. Jones is set to make his 17th Kansas Speedway NASCAR Cup Series start during Sunday’s race in the Heartland of America. ERIK JONES QUOTE

“Kansas has been a fun track for the NextGen car, and really for the Cup Series over the past few years. You feel like you can really run all over the track, but that top lane is where you really want to be, and it’s become dominant in the last handful of years there. Looks like we’ll have cooler temperatures this weekend which opens up the track more to where we can move around to run some different lanes and make more passes. It sometimes feels like our mile-and-a-half program has shown some good speed and we finally put it all together in Texas. Hopefully we can carry that speed into this weekend to have a strong run. We have to clean up the mistakes and see what kind of race we can put together. I’m excited to get to Kansas though and face the challenge of the different lanes you can run.”

BEN BESHORE QUOTE

“We obviously have a lot of optimism coming off a good run at Texas last weekend. They’re similar style tracks with the same tires and same aero package so we’re all pretty excited about Kansas. Erik has run well there in the past, and it’s one of his better tracks. We ran pretty well there in the first race last year as a company, so there’s a lot to look forward to from all those angles.”

Justin Haley Quotes
You have to feel good about a top 15 last weekend and Spire Motorsports’ overall performance at Texas Motor Speedway. How does that buoy your optimism coming into this weekend?
“When you look at the speed Spire Motorsports has at the mile-and-a-halves and if you look at how the team performed as a whole last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, there’s no reason not to be optimistic about Kansas.”

Michael McDowell Quote:
What are your thoughts about heading to Kansas Speedway this weekend?
“Kansas is a great track and it has a lot of lanes. Everybody migrates towards the wall, which is always high intensity. The track changes a lot throughout the weekend, it usually starts out really fast and then by the time the race comes around, it drops off and you start to slide and move around. It’s been a good track in the past. It’s hard to hit it just right, but I feel like the speed that we’ve had at Vegas and Texas this past weekend gives us a good baseline to keep building momentum and confidence, so we are coming into it with high hopes.”

Carson Hocevar Quotes
What are your expectations for Kansas after a solid weekend at Texas?
“I think we’ll have another good weekend. We seem to be heading in the right direction on our intermediate track program and it’s been a lot of fun to show people that we are improving. I felt like running the truck race at Texas was a big help as far as getting laps on track and getting into the racing mindset early in the weekend, so I’m excited to do that again at Kansas and try to make up for how last weekend ended.”

Wright Motorsports Returns to Laguna Seca for TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship

MONTEREY, Calif., (May 6, 2025) – Wright Motorsports is set to return to the rolling hills of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend for the TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship, the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. Piloting the No. 120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, drivers Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer will take on the 2.238-mile road course in Sunday’s two-hour, 40-minute sprint race.

After a strong start to their 2025 campaign, including a podium finish at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, the duo is eager to build on their momentum at a track that holds special significance for the team. Last year, Adelson and Skeer earned their first sprint race podium at Laguna Seca, finishing third in a hard-fought GTD battle. Now, with a year of full-season experience under their belts, the pairing returns with even sharper focus and a car well-suited to the technical demands of the historic circuit.

Laguna Seca, known for its low-grip surface and iconic five-story drop that is the Corkscrew turn, presents a unique challenge on the IMSA calendar, rewarding teams that excel in strategy, tire management, and precision. The Wright Motorsports crew recently completed a productive test at the circuit, dialing in their setup to suit both drivers’ styles and optimize the Porsche’s performance across the race distance.

Sunday’s race marks the second stop in IMSA’s West Coast swing and promises intense competition in the GTD class. The TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship will go green on Sunday, May 11 at 12:10 PM PT, airing live across the U.S. on NBC and Peacock. Fans outside the U.S. can stream the action live on IMSA.TV.

Wright Motorsports looks to channel last year’s success and this season’s early momentum into another podium charge at one of North America’s most storied tracks.

DRIVER QUOTES

Adam Adelson

Round 2 of the West Coast portion of the season is here, and I couldn’t be more excited. Laguna Seca is one of the most historic tracks on the calendar, and you can feel it the moment you step onto the track. We’ve had a really strong start to the season so far, so for me, it’s about relying on the experience gained and lessons learned to try and bring home a good result. We had great success here last year, bringing home our only sprint race podium, and I’m confident in our team to give us a really fast car around here, and I’m confident in both Elliott and me to drive the way we need to to do it again.

Elliott Skeer

I’m super excited for the final part of the West Coast Best Coast swing! Returning to the track of our first sprint race podium and hoping for equal results. The Wright Motorsports squad had a very productive test, and I am so excited to see what Adam can do on race weekend after his performances this year and at the test, especially.

No. 42 J.F. Electric / Utilitra Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Matt Mills | Crew Chief: Mike Shiplett

  • Mills’ Kansas Stats: Matt Mills has made four NCTS starts at Kansas Speedway, finishing as high as 17th-place in 2017. Last spring, Mills drove to a 23rd-place finish. Mills has also made five NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) starts here, posting a best run of 19th in 2023. In 2021, he made his Cup Series debut at the 1.5-mile track.
  • Shiplett’s Kansas Stats: Mike Shiplett has called two NCTS races at this track, both of which were last year. In the spring, he led the Bret Holmes Racing team to a 14th-place finish. Shiplett is a past Kansas winner, triumphing with John Hunter Nemechek for the NXS race in 2018. His NXS drivers delivered one win, one pole, and three top-fives in six starts. In 10 Cup Series starts, Shiplett earned two top-10s with a best of seventh by Cole Custer in 2020.
  • On the Truck: Mills’ No. 42 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from longtime partners J.F. Electric and Utilitra, who will serve as his anchor partners for the entire 25-race season.
  • Recapping Texas: Matt Mills and the No. 42 team had their hopes of a top-10 finish dashed in a late-race incident at Texas Motor Speedway. After starting deep in 30th once qualifying was rained out, a brilliant strategy call resulted in Mills capturing a second-place finish in stage one. From there, Mills hovered around the top-15 for the remainder of the night before clipping the grass on the front stretch. The damage proved to be too severe to continue the race, resulting in a 20th-place finish.
  • Points Rundown: Mills gained one spot in the points standings with his 20th-place run in Texas. Though currently shown in 19th-place, he is tied with Andres Perez de Lara for 18th. The driver of the No. 42 has a two-point buffer over Connor Mosack in 20th.
  • Quoting Mills: What can you take away from some of the other intermediates for this week?

“Our long-run speed on mile-and-a-halves is our strong suit, but we need to find a little bit of a balance between firing off and maintaining that speed with how the stages are laid out for us in the trucks. Kansas is a good track for Niece Motorsports as a whole, so going into this one I feel strongly that we can have a good run. We’ve been fast there in the past, but just haven’t been able to get the results to show it.”

No. 44 AutoVentive / Precision Vehicle Logistics Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Bayley Currey | Crew Chief: Wally Rogers

  • Currey’s Kansas Stats: Bayley Currey has competed in seven NCTS races at Kansas and recently picked up his personal-best finish here (eighth) in the fall of 2024. Currey was strong in the spring as well, falling one spot short of a top-10. He’s also made five NXS starts, finishing as high as 16th in 2021, along with one Cup Series start.
  • Rogers’ Kansas Stats: Wally Rogers has called 11 NCTS races at Kansas, resulting in one top-five (fifth with Matt Crafton in 2004) and two top-10 finishes. Rogers called six NXS races at the 1.5-mile track, finishing as high as third with Greg Biffle in 2003. He has also made a total of eight Cup Series starts here.
  • On the Truck: Currey’s No. 44 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from AutoVentive and Precision Vehicle Logistics, who both make their first appearance on his truck for this year.
  • Recapping Texas: After having two races feel like they got away, Bayley Currey and the No. 44 team were able to break through for a hard-earned top-10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway. Currey started the race mid-pack and struggled to pass other trucks in dirty air, but kept calm and stayed calculated throughout the night. With the help of some great pit stops and strong maneuvers on restarts, Currey drove to an eighth-place finish.
  • Owner Points Rundown: Currey’s eighth-place run at Texas gained the No. 44 team some ground in the owner points standings, but the entry remains in 15th-place. Heading into Kansas, the team is only three points behind TRICON Garage’s No. 17 truck in 14th and one point ahead of Spire Motorsports’ No. 71 Silverado in 16th.
  • Quoting Currey: You picked up a top-10 last week and last fall here, so what can you do to keep the momentum rolling?

“I think the biggest thing is just to keep doing what we’re doing. The No. 44 guys are clicking really good. I keep saying that, but they really have been. Just have to keep our same processes going. We had a really good run here last year, and I feel like we’re a lot better than last year, so hopefully we can just carry this momentum and these good runs into something good at Kansas.”

No. 45 DQS Solutions & Staffing / Masked Owl Technologies Chevrolet Silverado RST
Driver: Kaden Honeycutt | Crew Chief: Phil Gould

  • Honeycutt’s Kansas Stats: Kaden Honeycutt has raced four times prior at Kansas Speedway, and was a strong contender in both races last year. With two fourth-place efforts in 2024, Honeycutt’s average finish from both races was the third-best overall behind only Corey Heim and Christian Eckes.
  • Gould’s Kansas Stats: Phil Gould has called 11 NCTS races at Kansas Speedway, all for Niece Motorsports. In 2019, Gould won the team’s first race at this track while working with Ross Chastain. Gould’s drivers typically fare well here, earning four top-fives and six top-10 finishes over the years. In six NXS starts at the track, Gould’s teams picked up three top-10 finishes.
  • On the Truck: Honeycutt’s No. 45 Chevrolet Silverado RST will race with support from DQS Solutions & Staffing and Masked Owl Technologies, who will serve as his anchor partners for the majority of the season.
  • Recapping Texas: Local favorite Kaden Honeycutt was tracking for a great Texas debut in front of the hometown crowd, but unfortunately was wiped out in an early crash. Honeycutt started in sixth-place and was running up front when a truck hit the grass in front of him and slammed into the nose of the No. 45 Chevrolet. With nowhere to go, Honeycutt hit the turn one wall at a high rate of speed, and was done for the night. He was credited with a 32nd-place finish.
  • Points Rundown: Despite finishing last in Texas, Honeycutt’s points advantage over the Playoffs cutline drivers kept him from dropping out of contention. Entering the ninth race of the year at Kansas, Honeycutt continues on in ninth-place, 22 points behind Layne Riggs in eighth and five points ahead of Ben Rhodes in 10th.
  • Quoting Honeycutt: Your team was strong in both Kansas races last year, so what do you need when you go back here?

“We had two different scenarios and almost had a chance to win both of them last year. I’m not concerned about going to Kansas without any speed; I think we’ll be fast. Just need to execute, really. I think the last two times, that was the only thing that held us back was execution. We’ve had a lot of speed everywhere we’ve gone this year from short tracks to mile-and-a-halves. I think it’s just going to be about hitting the strategy right and doing what I need to do to put ourselves in a good position to fight for the win. This company has had speed at Kansas for the past six years or so, so I don’t see anything changing.”
