Cole Custer Notes of Interest

  • “Stone Cole” Custer returns to the site of his first career NASCAR Xfinity Series win sporting a sleek, new NXT on CW paint scheme on his No. 00 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for Saturday’s Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Similar to his paint scheme at Kansas Speedway on Sept. 28 to kick off the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs, Custer’s No. 00 hot rod will showcase several of the NXT on CW’s championship-winning wrestlers. Launched by WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, NXT has aired weekly since 2012 and features the brightest young talent in sports entertainment. Nearly 90 percent of the participants in last year’s WrestleMania were developed under the NXT banner. Led by WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, NXT is popular with younger audiences. WWE Superstars, including Roman Reigns, Seth “Freakin” Rollins and Charlotte Flair, have come up through NXT, a series similar in concept to the Xfinity Series where rising stars attempt to climb their way to the elite level of their sport. Many NXT Superstars have gone on to WWE’s main roster and performed on the biggest stage. This weekend, Custer’s No. 00 Ford Mustang will once again highlight four of the NXT’s Superstars – NXT Women’s champion Roxanne Perez and Trick Williams on the hood, and NXT Women’s North American champion Kelani Jordan and NXT champion Ethan Page on the quarter panels. The No. 00 Stewart-Haas team will also host Perez, Williams, and Tony “The Don” D’Angelo at the track for their first NASCAR race this weekend at Homestead along with Jordan who attended the Xfinity Series playoff opener at Kansas. Custer made a guest appearance on Tuesday night’s episode of NXT on CW, where he showed off a few wrestling moves of his own. Watch Custer’s highlights from the show HERE.
  • Saturday’s race at Homestead will mark Custer’s sixth Xfinity Series start at the 1.5-mile South Florida oval. He finished first, second and second there in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 season finales, respectively after finishing 17th in his Xfinity Series debut there in 2016. His 2017 win came from the second starting position, and he led 182 of the 200 race laps en route to the checkered flag. It was his milestone first in the Xfinity Series driving the No. 00 Ford Mustang. Custer’s runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2019 placed him second in the final championship standings. Custer has led a total of 292 laps at Homestead in his Xfinity Series career and has completed all but one lap he’s been able to run there. He has an additional four starts at Homestead outside of the Xfinity Series – three in the NASCAR Cup Series and one in the NASCAR Truck Series. His best Cup Series finish of 22nd came in June 2020. In his lone Truck Series start there in 2016, he started second and finished 10th.
  • Last year at Homestead, Custer looked to be on his way to another Homestead victory after qualifying on the pole for the second-to-last race in the Round of 8. He led 114 of the 200 race laps and gained 18 valuable bonus points by finishing first in Stage 1 and third in Stage 2 before a blown tire forced him to pit from the lead on lap 151. After the tire change, he resumed deep in the field and one lap down, but his perseverance and sheer determination enabled him to climb his way back up to 13th. While it wasn’t the win that would’ve locked him into the Championship 4, Custer and the team did take advantage of a good points day as he left the race above the Championship 4 cutline holding down fourth in the playoff standings.
  • Custer isn’t the only member of the No. 00 Ford team who knows how to win at Homestead. His crew chief Jonathan Toney was lead engineer of team co-owner Tony Stewart’s drive there to the 2011 NASCAR Cup Series championship. Toney also served as an engineer for Custer during his 2017 Xfinity Series victory at Homestead.

Riley Herbst Notes of Interest

  • Riley Herbst and the No. 98 Monster Energy team head to Saturday’s Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway with their eyes on the prize – another win on the 2024 season. Last Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Herbst started seventh for the 201-lap event. He scored a total of 10 stage points with his third-place and ninth-place stage finishes, respectively, and battled for a top-10 spot in the final stage as the team struggled with the handling of the No. 98 Ford Mustang Dark Horse. He was able to lead once for four laps to increase his laps led at his hometown track to 107, and Herbst showed his persistence as he passed several cars in the closing laps to bring home a seventh-place result. It was his fourth straight top-10 at Las Vegas and his 13th top-10 of the 2024 season. He now heads to a track where he followed up his first career win last season with a strong runner-up finish as the highest finishing non-playoff driver.
  • The Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300 will mark Herbst’s sixth career start at Homestead, where his best finish of second came last October in the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang – just a week after his first career victory at Las Vegas. In the final laps of last year’s race, Herbst was closing the gap between himself and leader Sam Mayer before ultimately finishing just .227 of a second behind in the runner-up position. He’s now on a mission to finish one spot better and join his teammate Cole Custer as an Xfinity Series winner at Homestead. In October 2023, Herbst finished an impressive eighth. He was 11th in the February 2021 race after back-to-back top-10s there in a June 2020 weekend doubleheader – 10th in the Saturday race and ninth in the Sunday race.
  • Herbst is driving for a team that knows how to win at Homestead. In addition to Custer’s win at the track in the No. 00 car, the previous driver of the No. 98 Ford Mustang, Chase Briscoe, won the second race of the 2020 doubleheader after a seventh-place finish in the Saturday race, and runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2019.
  • Herbst has nothing to lose and everything to win in the final three races of the season and his final races with the Stewart-Haas Racing Xfinity Series program. With the team shutting down at the end of the 2024 season, Herbst looks to up his Xfinity Series career win total. He currently has two wins, both coming with Stewart-Haas in the No. 98 Ford Mustang. The final three races are at three of his best tracks on the circuit. Consistency has been key for the No. 98 Monster Energy driver at Homestead. He has never finished outside the top-11 in five previous career starts on the 1.5-mile South Florida oval. The next race, Nov. 2 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, comes at a track where Herbst has finished outside the top-10 just three times in eight starts, with a best finish of third in October 2022, which he followed up with a fourth-place finish last October. And the season concludes Nov. 9 at Phoenix Raceway, where Herbst drove to best finishes of fourth in both 2021 races and again in both of the 2023 races there. He has also finished outside the top-11 just three-times in 10 career starts.

Cole Custer, Driver of the No. 00 NXT on CW Ford Mustang Dark Horse

You’re heading to the second race of the Round of 8 and you’re inside the top-four, 16 points above the Championship 4 cutline, after your eighth-place finish last Saturday at Las Vegas. After the drama coming to the checkered flag at Martinsville last season, do you feel like you have to win at Homestead to make it to the next round?

“I don’t think we’re in a place where we have to win, but you never know what could happen at these next two races. The No. 00 team has had a ton of speed in the playoffs, including last weekend where we led laps. I think if we keep managing our races, having good races, and doing what we need to do, then we can make it to the next round on points alone. There’s no reason why we can’t be in a good position on points to make it to the Championship 4, but a win this weekend at Homestead would just make the nerves a lot easier heading into Martinsville. I was so nervous last year heading into that race because you never know what could happen there. You obviously want to win before then to help ease your mind, but you also want to look at the bigger picture and build a points cushion. We almost won at Homestead last year had it not been for that blown tire, so I know we can do it again.”

You scored your first career Xfinity Series victory in November 2017 at Homestead after just missing the Championship 4. Talk about your career at Homestead and if there’s any extra confidence because of your history there.

“Homestead has always been a strong place for the Stewart-Haas Racing Xfinity Series team and for myself. You saw that with the strong run we had built last year and then Riley (Herbst, teammate) finishing second. Having my first win at Homestead was big, obviously, but also we’ve been consistently racing for the win at that track without fail. We’re always in the fight to win no matter the season, it seems like. I think our team overall just has a good package for this track and intermediate tracks. Hopefully, that remains true this weekend, as well. Homestead is a place that I’ve always been comfortable at and somewhere where you really have to search around the track to find grip and figure out what line works best for your car. It’s a lot of fun for myself as a driver, so I’m excited to head back there and try to find victory lane again.”

Riley Herbst, Driver of the No. 98 Monster Energy Ford Mustang Dark Horse

With only three races left in the regular season, how do you approach them as they’ll be the last for the No. 98 team and your last with Stewart-Haas Racing?

“It’s bittersweet. Obviously, I’m excited for the future, but this has been my home for the past four seasons. These crew guys are like my family and they’ve watched me grow from that first season. I want to do everything I can to add another win to the No. 98 banner before the end of the season. The history has been so rich with this number, and to be able to be a part of it has been amazing. I’m sure we can get another one before the final checkered flag. We’re not approaching anything differently than before, but with no championship to battle for anymore, we’ve got nothing to lose and everything to win. Who’s to say we can’t go out and win the final three races? I want to end on a strong note with these guys and I know we can find victory lane again before the year is over.”

Homestead has been a strong track for you. Coming off a strong run at Las Vegas, another intermediate track, does that boost your and the team’s confidence for what can come from this weekend’s race?

“It definitely gives us a confidence boost, especially with how strong our intermediate program has been in the past. At the same time, we take it one race at a time because anything can happen in these races. Homestead is an intermediate track, but it’s still different from Las Vegas or one of the other ones. I’ve run well at Homestead in my career, including that runner-up finish last year. At the same time, it’s a good track for a lot of people in the Xfinity Series, including my teammate Cole Custer. Everyone is going to run their best there, especially with seven guys still vying for three spots in the Championship 4. I’m hoping that we can take the notes from last year to run up front this weekend. We’ve had the speed all year, so now it’s just about having a perfect weekend. I have no doubt in my mind that we can contend for the win.”

Toyota Racing Weekly Preview 10.23.24

This Week in Motorsports: October 21 – 27, 2024

NCS/NXS/NCTS: Homestead-Miami Speedway – Oct. 25-27

PLANO, Texas (Oct. 23, 2024) – NASCAR hits the second race of the Round of 8 across its three national series as the Truck, Xfinity and Cup Series take on Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend.

NASCAR National Series – NCS | NXS | NCTS

Cup Series points shake up heading to Homestead … Following Sunday’s race in Las Vegas, the three remaining Camry XSE Playoff drivers all find themselves in different positions heading to Homestead this weekend. Christopher Bell, coming off a pole position in Las Vegas, his second consecutive runner-up finish and another stage win, currently sits 42 points above the cutline with two races remaining in the round. His Toyota teammates, Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick find themselves below the Playoff cutline going into this weekend, 27 and 30 points under, respectively.

Bell looks to continue strong runs … Bell and his No. 20 Camry XSE team have built serious momentum in the current stretch of races on the Cup Series schedule, now with 10 top-10s in the last 12 races, seven of those being in the top-five. Bell has now set his career-best in top five (13) and top-10 (21) finishes in a season and can still add more with three races remaining. He also returns to Homestead this weekend looking to repeat after last year’s victory at the 1.5-mile South Florida oval sent him to the Championship 4.

Hamlin also eager to continue top-10 streak … Hamlin and his No. 11 Camry XSE team have also been on a strong streak of late, finishing inside the top-10 in four of the last five races, dating back to Bristol Motor Speedway in September. Homestead has been a solid track for the 43-year-old in the past, with a win at the Florida track in 2020, to go along with three top-fives and 12 top-10s in his 19 career starts.

Smith remains above the cutline … With his seventh consecutive top-five finish at Las Vegas, Chandler Smith sits in an ideal position in the fight for the Xfinity Series Championship 4, currently eight points above the cutline heading to Homestead this weekend. Smith has only made three total career starts at Homestead across the Truck and Xfinity Series so far, with a best finish of seventh in the Xfinity Series in 2022.

Sawalich makes Xfinity Series debut in double duty weekend … In a monumental 2024 season for William Sawalich, he adds another feat to his list by making his Xfinity Series debut this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Minnesotan will pilot the No. 19 GR Supra for Joe Gibbs Racing on Saturday around the mile-and-a-half track. Just a few weeks ago, the recently turned 18-year-old made his superspeedway debut in the Truck Series at Talladega Superspeedway, where he sat on pole, nonetheless. He’ll also be running the Truck Series race on Saturday with TRICON Garage in the No. 1 Tundra TRD Pro to start his double duty day, making his eighth Truck start of the season.

Heim, Gray continue chase for Championship 4 … After a few weeks off for the Truck Series, Corey Heim and Taylor Gray are back at it in hopes of clinching their way into the Championship 4. Heim, coming off an 11th-place finish at Talladega, is currently 30 points to the good while leading the championship standings. Gray, who finished runner-up at Talladega, is 13 points below the cutline with two races remaining in the Round of 8.

Friesen returns to favorable Homestead … Homestead-Miami Speedway has been a track of comfort for Stewart Friesen over the course of his Truck Series career as he makes his eighth start at the mile-and-a-half this Saturday. In his seven previous starts, Friesen has two top-fives and four top-10s, including third and sixth-place finishes in his last two starts. Friesen seeks his first top-10 since Bristol back in September and his first top-five finish since Charlotte Motor Speedway in May where he finished runner-up.

Stellar drive from Sedgwick to close Carrera Cup season

The PT Autosport driver powers from sixth to second at the finish in a “hard, clean, smart” Porsche Carrera Cup North America finale

AUSTIN, Texas (October 23, 2024) – PT Autosport with JDX Racing’s Alex Sedgwick posted one of the most impressive drives of his young career last weekend, driving from sixth to second in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America season finale at Circuit of the Americas.

Unfortunately for Sedgwick and the team, several mechanical gremlins – and a technical inspection penalty that sent him from second to the back of the field – meant that the 25-year-old Warwickshire, UK native went from second to fourth in the final championship standings. But as one observer put it, Sedgwick drove a “hard, clean, smart” race behind the wheel of the No. 98 PT Autosport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car, one that he hopes earns him the notice of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams after delivering impressive results in his two-year stint in the highly competitive global Porsche championship.

Sedgwick took the green flag for the lone practice session on Friday afternoon and immediately found his rhythm, posting the second-quickest opening timed lap. Determined to do one better, Sedgwick’s second timed lap hoisted him to the top of the speed charts by half a second. But a mechanical issue midway through the session slowed Sedgwick, who was grateful to hold the fourth-quickest time at the checkered flag despite the loss of critical track time.

Unfortunately, mechanical concerns surfaced once again at the worst possible moment–in Saturday morning qualifying. Shortly after heading to the top of the speed charts, Sedgwick began experiencing radiator issues that sent him to pit lane – after only three laps. Forced to sit on pit lane for the remainder of the session, Sedgwick’s time was still good enough for sixth on the starting grid, though with third and fourth in the points chase ahead of him.

On the outside of row three, Sedgwick placed himself perfectly in the opening corners of race one, ready to make a move – until contact with a competitor put Sedgwick off track in Turn 9, returning back in 11th position. Before he could recommence the fight, an incident further back sent a car into the barriers and brought out a yellow flag, followed almost immediately by a second yellow.

Returning to green with 10 minutes remaining, Sedgwick was a man on a mission. Amidst plenty of wheel-to-wheel action, Sedgwick managed to capture fifth position, just as two back markers collided and stopped on track, meaning the race ended under caution.

Going into the season finale tied for second, Sedgwick was determined to move forward from his sixth place starting position. In the Turn 1 scrum, Sedgwick slid to the middle of the track and grabbed fifth, then focused on the car ahead, the championship leader. It took much of the race – to the 17-minute mark – but Sedgwick made the inside pass in Turn 11 to take fourth.

With 11 minutes remaining, Sedgwick slid into third position and aimed for the two leaders, knowing that time was rapidly running out. After making up an over two second deficit, Alex was engaged in a side by side, tooth and nail battle for two laps, Sedgwick made a bold move in Turn 18 and captured second position. But the battle meant that Sedgwick was now more than three seconds behind the leader, and as the checkered flag fell, he felt as though he had earned one of the most impressive podium finishes of his young career.

The champagne had hardly dried before Sedgwick learned that the car was out of specification after a suspension part suffered damage, negating his significant effort as the post-race results saw him come home fourth in the overall championship.

This, after having given up his dream of racing professionally until a chance meeting that saw his never give up attitude meet with the opportunity that PT Autosport aspires to deliver, as the young Englishman entered an extremely competitive championship, proved himself a winner, and will now look forward to what comes next.

Sedgwick was understandably disappointed with the outcome but in the end, he knows that the last two years of impressive drives in Carrera Cup have given his racing career new life, as he makes plans for 2025 and beyond.

“Things haven’t always gone to plan this season, with the racing gods throwing out a few weekends of bad luck along the way, and this past weekend might have been the most difficult to date,” said Sedgwick. “I put in the two races of my life to try and recover from our issues in qualifying, making it back to the podium in race two, but unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be.

“We don’t have the results on paper to show just how competitive the No. 98 PT Autosport with JDX Racing car was all year long, but to start 2023 at the back end of the top ten, to consistently fighting for poles and wins in the most competitive single-make series in North America is not bad going. I can’t thank Jeremy (Dale), Harrison (Brix), Ryan (Neff), Cody (Wollenslegel) and everyone else in the team enough. Every single one of them has contributed to my development over the past two years. And I would never have been here without PT Autosport. Their support and their decision to partner with JDX have made this all possible, I will never be able to repay Jeph and Jason for their belief in me and the opportunity to now, be looking at making the next jump in my career as a result of the last two years of hard work. 2024 has been hard, but it’s been an awesome year.”

As focus turns to 2025, PT Autosport team principal Jason Myers knows that the phone will be ringing this week, as teams review the drives Sedgwick laid down in difficult circumstances.

“What a weekend of ups and downs at COTA,” said Myers. “While the outcome for the season-long championship wasn’t what we had hoped for, the drives that Alex put down both Saturday and Sunday were nothing short of epic. We know there are a number of teams watching his performances and while the champion gets his name on a trophy, the real reward is where you go as a driver – yes, it’s about your driving skills, but it’s also about your networking and relationship-building, your tenacity and persistence, that really pay off in the end. Can’t give any details yet, but the possibilities in the pipeline are impressive. Stay tuned!”

PT Autosport would like to thank partners STEAM Sports Foundation, Classic Car Club Manhattan and New Jersey Motorsports Park, as well as JDX Racing partners Byers/Porsche Columbus, and Renier Construction.

Wayne Taylor Racing Announces 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Driver Lineups Across Two-Car Cadillac V-Series.R GTP Factory Program

Full Season, IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup and Rolex 24 at DAYTONA Drivers Confirmed for 2025

BROWNSBURG, Indiana (October 23, 2024) – Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) and Cadillac Racing announced today their complete driver lineup for the two-car Grand Tour Prototype (GTP) factory program set to take the green flag at the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, the kickoff of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

In the No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R GTP, series veterans Ricky Taylor and Filipe Albuquerque will continue as the team’s full season drivers. Former WTR teammate, Will Stevens, will reunite with Taylor and Albuquerque for the three 2025 IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup (IMEC) Championship events: Rolex 24 at DAYTONA, Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and the MOTUL Petit Le Mans. Brendon Hartley returns to WTR for a fourth year to round out the driver lineup in Daytona as the team looks to make history during this iconic 24-hour endurance battle of wits, stamina and strategy.

“I’m excited for the No. 10 lineup in 2025,” expressed Team Principal, Wayne Taylor. “Three of the four drivers have been with us at least four years and working together. Adding in Will Stevens for the endurance races will be a big advantage as well. All four drivers understand the setups and are used to working closely together – a necessity for winning in Daytona and for being on top in this incredibly close championship.”

Competing alongside the No. 10 Cadillac V-Series.R machine, teammates Jordan Taylor and Louis Delétraz will once again take the helm, now of the No. 40 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R, for the full season. Cadillac stalwart, Alex Lynn, will join the duo as the team’s co-driver at the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring and the MOTUL Petit Le Mans for the 2025 IMEC Championship races. International sportscar superstar, Kamui Kobayashi, will join the trio for the Rolex 24 with the intent to add to his Rolex 24 watch collection, having taken the top step with WTR in both 2019 and 2020.

“The No. 40 car is an exciting driver line up as well,” continued Taylor. “Louis and Jordan are back together again, and Alex Lynn will be helping with the endurance races. Alex has worked with us before, helping us win the Twelve Hours of Sebring back in 2017. Kamui Kobayashi’s abilities speak for themselves, having run with us before and won the Rolex 24 twice, once with Jordan. Everyone in this group works to get the job done, no egos – it is what wins races, especially the Rolex 24.”

Wayne Taylor’s history with GM Motorsports dates to 1990 when the South African native turned his first laps in the U.S. as a General Motors factory driver in a Chevrolet-powered GTP race car. Since Taylor founded the team in 2007, Wayne Taylor Racing has asserted itself as a perennial leading force in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 2021 Michelin Endurance Cup Champions have won three IMSA Driver Championships and nine IMSA Manufacturer Titles since their formation. In the team’s 18 seasons, they have seized four Rolex 24 at DAYTONA titles, two Twelve Hours of Sebring victories and two Petit Le Mans wins. In 2017, the team set an unprecedented five-race win streak with the Cadillac DPi and went on to win the IMSA WeatherTech Driver and Manufacturer’s Championships.

The newly formed Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R GTP team will make their debut at the upcoming IMSA-sanctioned test at Daytona International Speedway on November 15-16, 2024. Action for the Roar Before the Rolex 24 weekend will begin with the first on-track session at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, January 17th, concluding with qualifying on Sunday, January 19th. Green flag for the 63rd Running of the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA will fly on Saturday, January 25th.

No. 10 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R GTP Driver Quotes

Ricky Taylor, full-season driver
“It is exciting to be rejoining Cadillac Racing, I am looking forward to learning about what has made them so competitive over the past two GTP seasons as well as working with a new group to work together to win races and championships. I think we will be curious to learn what has made them strong over the first two years, but also to bring our own experience to the program. I think the team has something special in how the two cars and four full-time drivers work together to push each other on and off the track in a healthy way that supports both cars succeeding. The relationship with GM goes back as long as the Taylor family has been in America. My dad came to America to drive the Chevy Spice for Pratt and Miller. GM and WTR have had so much success together, but the relationship between each of the Taylors and GM have highlighted our careers.”

Filipe Albuquerque, full-season driver
“It’s fantastic to return to driving for GM/Cadillac. Since I started racing in America in the overall class, it was with the Chevy DP in 2016, then I did another four years with Cadillac DPi and now to be back is amazing. I am really looking forward to returning ‘back home’. My first overall Daytona win was with Cadillac, so for sure I want to be back to those winning feelings. I remember very well fighting hard WTR in a Cadillac, they were a big stone in my shoe, this is a very Portuguese expression to not say something else, but I remember as well that I won some of them too, but now being all together, me, Ricky, WTR and Cadillac, I think we have the dream together.”

Will Stevens, 2025 IMEC co-driver
“I am very much looking forward to being back with Wayne Taylor Racing and starting this new venture with Cadillac Racing. It’s going to be an exciting partnership and one that has all the ingredients to be a huge success. It’s a brand that I have always admired from the outside and now get the chance to be a part of is a very exciting opportunity and can’t wait to get started. We need to form a strong team bond between everyone in the team to give us the best chance of achieving great things together. I think it’s a vital part of the way WTR goes about racing and why it has been so successful over so many years. We will all be pushing each other along and very much looking forward to that challenge.”

Brendon Hartley, Rolex 24 at DAYTONA co-driver
“I’m very happy to be joining WTR for Daytona again! I feel part of the WTR family but a win at Daytona is something I haven’t been able to put my name too, yet. WTR always have a competitive car and line up and we will be heading to Daytona with one goal in mind. Running a two-car program is relatively new to WTR but I was so impressed with the atmosphere and team spirit we had in 2024, no doubt it will be the same heading into 2025. I think it also speaks volumes for Wayne and the team he has around him, and also for their choices in drivers. The team has really made us feel part of the WTR family and feel part of something bigger. It’s a team of racers who win and lose together.”

No. 40 Cadillac Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R GTP Driver Quotes
Jordan Taylor, full-season driver
“I can’t wait to start 2025 with Cadillac Racing. I spent 12 years of my career racing GM cars, so it feels like I am coming back home to see lots of familiar faces. The Cadillacs have obviously been extremely strong in GTP the last two years, so I can’t wait to see what the car is like from the inside. WTR always does an amazing job at putting together strong lineups. Not just strong on track, but guys that are able to work well together off the track with the teammates, team members, and sponsors. I think putting together all the drivers that we have is bringing an amazing amount of experience that can push us all in the right direction.”

“GM is what brought my mom and dad to America back in the early 90’s, giving my dad his first drive in the States. It was also where my career began and where Ricky has had so much success in the past as well. We have kept in touch with all those people that we’ve dealt with in the past, and there’s no doubt that it will be a seamless transition coming back together.”

Louis Delétraz, full-season driver
“I am really excited to join Cadillac Racing. Cadillac and GM have achieved so much in motorsport, I can’t wait to start working together. I look forward to understanding how they work and make such fast cars. Since I joined IMSA, Cadillac Racing has always been extremely competitive and hard to beat. I’m happy to have them on our side and not against us now. I think together we can win many races and championships in the future.”

“There is a lot of history between Cadillac, GM and WTR. That was before I joined the team, but I can feel the excitement at WTR since the news has been released. A lot of good memories, championships and trophies at the WTR workshop proves the success of this alliance. I can’t wait to drive the car for the first time and see what made Cadillac so strong.”

Alex Lynn, 2025 IMEC co-driver
“I’m super excited to be joining WTR for the IMSA Endurance Cup races in 2025. It’s a team I have such fond memories of and now, we will be in a car I’ve become very familiar with over the last few years. WTR has always been a team that sets the standard in North American sportscar racing and are always there to win in the big moments. I’m also very excited to be back working with Ricky and Jordan as well as Filipe and Louis, all four world class drivers and ready to win the big races. I can’t wait to get started.”

Kamui Kobayashi, Rolex 24 at DAYTONA co-driver
“I am thrilled to announce that I will be racing for Wayne and his wonderful WTR teams for 2025 Daytona 24 hours. I had such an amazing and fun memory for racing with his team and also with Cadillac Racing. I am really appreciative not only to WTR and Cadillac to give me another opportunity to race for them, but also Morizo-san and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing for allowing me to compete in this historic event in the United States. It just feels like a home coming for me. The competition in IMSA has been very intense and I am looking forward to race to bring the best result as possible to WTR and Cadillac.”

Brandon Jones to make his 300th Xfinity start at Homestead

Photo by Ron Olds for SpeedwayMedia.com.

Brandon Jones will achieve a milestone start this weekend in the Xfinity Playoff event at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The driver of the No. 9 JR Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro will make his 300th career start in the Xfinity circuit.

A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Jones made his inaugural presence in the Xfinity Series at Iowa Speedway in May 2015. By then, he had won two races in the ARCA Menards Series and one event in the ARCA Menards Series East, all while driving for Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM).

He had also made 11 career starts in the Craftsman Truck Series, recording a total of two top-10 results while competing between TSM and GMS Racing. Driving the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro for Richard Childress Racing (RCR) on a part-time basis, Jones started fifth and finished eighth in his Xfinity debut. He then made four additional Xfinity starts in 2015, which started in the series’ second visit of the season at Iowa in August along with the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Bristol Motor Speedway, both also occurring in August, before wrapping up his part-time schedule at Kentucky Speedway in September. During this span, Jones notched a season-best fifth-place result at Kentucky, which also marked his first career top-five finish in the series.

In 2016, Jones campaigned as a full-time Xfinity competitor in RCR’s No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro. After finishing in seventh place during the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway in February, the Atlanta native proceeded to record 10 additional top-10 results throughout the 26-race regular-season stretch, which were enough for him to claim a spot into the 2016 Xfinity Series Playoffs.

Jones fell out of title contention after finishing 26th, 17th, and 16th throughout the Round of 12.He recorded a single top-10 result through the remaining four scheduled events and settled in 10th place in the final standings. Despite achieving his first career pole position for the 2017 season opener at Daytona, he only recorded a total of three top-10 results throughout the 33-race schedule as his average-finishing result dropped from 13.8 to 21.4. After missing the 2017 Xfinity Playoffs, Jones, who finished no higher than 11th throughout the Playoffs, ended up in 16th place in the final standings.

For the 2018 season, Jones transitioned from RCR to Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) to pilot the No. 19 Toyota Camry on a full-time basis in the Xfinity Series. Commencing the season by finishing 10th at Daytona, he utilized consistency in the form of a season-best runner-up result at Talladega Superspeedway in May. He also won the pole at Dover Motor Speedway in May, and a total of 12 top-10 results throughout the 26-race regular-season stretch to qualify for his second career Playoffs.

Jones recorded two top-10 results throughout the Round of 1 but was eliminated from the Playoffs. But, he finished strong with three additional top-10 results in the final four events on the schedule before claiming ninth place in the final driver’s standings. Overall, Jones boosted his average-finishing result to 13.6 and recorded both double-digit results of top-10 runs (17) and triple-digit results of laps led (173) in a season for the first time in his career. He had also surpassed 100 career starts in the Xfinity Series.

Jones’ second Xfinity campaign as a JGR competitor commenced on a strong note as he finished in third place at Daytona in February. He then finished in the top four three additional times and logged in a total of 13 top-10 results throughout the 26-race regular-season stretch before qualifying for his third career appearance in the Playoffs.

Jones was eliminated from title contention early after finishing no higher than 11th throughout the Round of 12. He responded by notching his first career victory in his 134th Xfinity Series start at Kansas Speedway in October after leading the final 10 laps and muscling away from the field during a five-lap shootout, which made him the third first-time winner of the season alongside Michael Annett and Austin Cindric. Finishing no lower than 11th through the final three events on the schedule, Jones claimed 10th place in the final standings. By then, Jones had tripled his top-five results recorded from the previous season (six).

The 2020 Xfinity season was a breakout year for Jones, who claimed two top-10 results through the first three events on the schedule before notching his first victory of the season and the second of his career at Phoenix Raceway in March amid a late battle with teammate Kyle Busch. The Atlanta native then recorded five top-10 results during his next 12 starts before recording his second victory of the season at Kansas in July after overtaking Austin Cindric on the final lap amid an overtime shootout.

Another six races later, Jones capitalized on a late-race skirmish involving teammate Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain to overtake both before the final lap and claim victory No. 3 of the season at Darlington Raceway in September. Proceeding to make his fourth career appearance in the Playoffs, Jones transferred into the Round of 8 for the first time in his career after finishing no lower than 11th throughout the Round of 12. But he was eliminated from title contention after finishing ninth, 25th and ninth, respectively, throughout the Round of 8. Managing a strong third-place finish during the finale at Phoenix Raceway in November, Jones settled in a career-best sixth place in the final driver’s standings. By then, he had achieved a career-best 19 top-10 results, 10 of which were top fives, 160 laps led and a career-best average-finishing result of 12.8.

Despite commencing the 2021 Xfinity season with a hard incident at Daytona, Jones recorded a season-best runner-up result at Michigan International Speedway in August, nine top-five results and 13 top-10 results throughout the 26-race regular-season stretch, all of which were enough for him to make the Playoffs for the fifth time in his career. Despite finishing no lower than 11th throughout the seven-race Playoff stretch, Jones’ title hopes evaporated following the Round of 8 as he claimed seventh place both during the finale and in the final standings. By then, he achieved a career-high 11 top-five results and tied his career-high results of top-10 runs in a season (19). He had also surpassed 200 career starts in the Xfinity circuit.

Making his fifth campaign as a Joe Gibbs Racing competitor for the 2022 Xfinity season, Jones commenced the season by recording a runner-up result at Phoenix in March and three top-10 finishes through seven starts. Then at Martinsville Speedway in April, Jones bumped and overtook teammate Ty Gibbs on the final lap to snap a one-year winless drought with his fifth career victory in the series. He finished in the top 10 six additional times in 18 events on the regular-season calendar before making his sixth career appearance in the Playoffs.

After transferring into the Round of 8 amid respective finishes of 27th, ninth and seventh throughout the Round of 12, the Georgian finished ninth and 15th, respectively, through the Round of 8’s first two events. Then during the Round of 8 finale at Martinsville in October, Jones, who made a bold three-wide pass on Ty Gibbs and Noah Gragson during an overtime shootout, was leading on the final lap when Gibbs bumped and sent his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate spinning and crashing into the Turn 1 outside wall, which plummeted him to 23rd place in the final running order and evaporated his final effort in making the Championship 4 round.

Concluding the season in 11th place during the finale at Phoenix, Jones ended up in seventh place in the final standings. By then, he led a career-high 240 laps and notched a career-high five poles to coincide with his Martinsville April victory, six top-five results, 13 top-10 results and an average-finishing result of 13.4.

Jones was named the driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro entry for JR Motorsports In September 2022 for the 2023 season, replacing Gragson who moved up to the Cup Series. Commencing the season with a 14th-place finish at Daytona, Jones only recorded two top-five results and five top-10 results through the first 25 events on the schedule. Despite posting a season-best runner-up result during the regular-season finale at Kansas in September, he missed the Xfinity Playoffs for the first time since 2017. Jones would proceed to steer the No. 9 entry to three top-10 results throughout the final seven events on the schedule before ending up in 14th place in the final standings.

Remaining at JR Motorsports for a second full-time campaign in 2024, Jones recorded two poles, a runner-up result at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and seven top-10 results through the season’s 26-race regular-season stretch. He missed the Playoffs but since then he has finished in the top 10 once in his previous four starts. Jones is currently in 14th place in the standings. He is also down to his final three races with JR Motorsports as he will be returning to Joe Gibbs Racing tp pilot a Toyota Supra for the 2025 Xfinity season.

Through 299 previous Xfinity starts Jones has achieved five victories, 12 poles, 40 top-five results, 119 top-10 results, 921 laps led and an average-finishing result of 15.7.

Brandon Jones will make his 300th Xfinity Series career start at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Credit One NASCAR Amex Credit Card 300. The event is set for Saturday, October 26, and will air at 4 p.m. ET on the CW Network.

The Ultimate Guide to Dirt Bike Graphics

Dirt bike graphics are more than just stickers; they’re a way for riders to express their personality and style while also enhancing their bike’s performance and visibility. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a weekend warrior, understanding the importance of graphics can help you make informed choices about your bike’s appearance and protection.

Why Choose Custom Dirt Bike Graphics?

1. Personalization: Custom graphics allow you to showcase your unique style. Whether you prefer bold colors, intricate designs, or minimalist looks, there’s an option that fits your personality.

2. Branding: For racers and teams, custom graphics can serve as a branding tool. They help build recognition and create a professional appearance on the track.

3. Visibility: Bright and eye-catching graphics can improve your visibility on the track, making it easier for spectators and fellow riders to spot you. This is especially important during races.

4. Protection: High-quality graphics protect your bike’s bodywork from scratches and scuffs. This can help maintain the bike’s resale value over time.

Types of Dirt Bike Graphics

1. Full Kits: These include graphics for the entire bike, covering the front fender, rear fender, side panels, and more. Full kits provide a cohesive look and maximum protection.

2. Number Plates: Custom number plates are essential for racing. They provide a space for your racing number and can be designed to match your overall graphics theme.

3. Stick-On Decals: For those looking for a quick upgrade, stick-on decals can be applied easily. They offer flexibility for riders who want to experiment with different designs.

4. Specialized Graphics: Some manufacturers offer specialized graphics for specific models or limited editions, giving your bike a unique flair.

Choosing the Right Material

The material used for dirt bike graphics plays a crucial role in durability and appearance. Common materials include:

Vinyl: This is the most popular choice due to its flexibility, durability, and ability to withstand harsh conditions.

Laminated Graphics: These graphics are coated with a protective layer, enhancing their longevity and resistance to fading and scratching.

UV-Resistant Inks: Opting for graphics printed with UV-resistant inks can help maintain color vibrancy, especially if you ride in sunny conditions.

Installation Tips

Installing dirt bike graphics may seem daunting, but with the right approach, it can be a straightforward process:

1. Clean the Surface: Ensure that all surfaces are clean and free of dirt, grease, and old adhesive. This helps the new graphics adhere properly.

2. Use Heat: A heat gun or hair dryer can make the vinyl more pliable, allowing for easier application and fewer bubbles.

3. Start with Flat Surfaces: Begin with flatter areas before moving to more complex curves. This will help you practice your technique.

4. Use a Squeegee: A squeegee can help smooth out any air bubbles and ensure a tight bond with the surface.

Maintenance and Care

To keep your graphics looking fresh, consider these maintenance tips:

Regular Cleaning: Gently wash your bike with mild soap and water to remove dirt and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the graphics.

Avoid Scratches: Be mindful of where you park or lean your bike to minimize scratches from contact with other objects.

Reapply as Needed: If you notice peeling or damage, consider reapplying the affected graphics instead of replacing the entire kit.

Conclusion

Dirt bike graphics are an essential aspect of bike ownership, allowing for personalization, branding, and protection. With various options available, riders can choose graphics that not only enhance their bike’s appearance but also withstand the rigors of off-road riding. Whether you’re racing or just enjoying a weekend ride, investing in quality graphics can elevate your experience and make your bike truly yours.
