BOXING LEGEND SUGAR RAY LEONARD NAMED HONORARY STARTER FOR AUTO CLUB 400 AT AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (March 22, 2011)-  Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard will serve as Honorary Starter for the Auto Club 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday, March 27.  

[media-credit name=”Auto Club Speedway” align=”alignright” width=”120″][/media-credit]As Honorary Starter, Leonard will wave the green flag to get the Auto Club 400 underway.  The event will be televised at noon PT on FOX.   Race fans can also watch Leonard on the top rated program Dancing with the Stars.  

The 2-hour Dancing with the Stars season premiere airs live on Monday, March 21 on ABC.  

Sugar Ray Leonard is one of the legendary sports icons of the 20th century whose very name epitomizes boxing and conjures the image of a champion. 

In 1976 Leonard took the boxing gold medal home in the Olympic Games and won his inaugural fight as a professional the following year.  In addition to the middleweight title, Leonard went on to win welterweight, junior middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight titles. 

Leonard will release his first autobiography (Viking Books) entitled “THE BIG FIGHT: My Life In and Out of the Ring” on June 7, 2011.
