Mid-Qualifying Rain Shower Washes-Out Time Trials for Quaker State 400
Field Set By Practice Speeds
Sparta, KY – A rain shower that appeared over the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway after half of the 48 cars trying to make the inaugural Quaker State 400 had made their qualifying runs, forced NASCAR to cancel the session and set the field by practice speeds turned in earlier in the day’s only practice session. Two Chevrolet drivers will start in the top-five and four will start in the top-ten for Saturday night’s 267-lap race.
Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 42 Target Chevrolet, will start on the outside front row in second position, while reigning Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, will start fifth. Tony Stewart, No. 14 Office Depot/Mobil 1 Chevrolet, will roll off in ninth position while Paul Menard, No. 27 Sylvania/Menards Chevrolet rounds out the top-ten for tomorrow night’s race.
A total of 17 Team Chevy drivers are set to start the 18th race of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Kyle Busch (Toyota) will start Saturday’s race from the pole, Kurt Busch (Dodge) starts third, and Kasey Kahne (Toyota) will roll off fourth, to round out the top five starters.
The Quaker State 400 can be seen on TNT with pre-race coverage beginning at 7:30 pm ET and heard on MRN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio on channel 90.
