CAREER BEST: 2011 Truck Series Championship contender Timothy Peters heads into Atlanta Motor Speedway having earned career-best finishes of second at Michigan International Speedway and fifth Bristol Motor Speedway. Peter’s hopes to earn his third top-five finish in a row this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway and top his career best finish of seventh at the 1.5-mile track.

THE CLOSER: According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistics Peters is ranked second among active drivers in the closer category. Peters has gained an average of 1.4 positions in the last 10 percent of each race completed this season. Overall Peters has gained 22 finishing positions throughout the course of the 2011 season.

FOLLOW THE LEADER: Of the 25 tracks that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Peters has led at least one lap at 17 of the 25 tracks or 68 percent. Peters has yet to lead a lap in his Truck Series career at Atlanta Motor Speedway but he and the No. 17 team hope to change that statistic this weekend. The other tracks Peters has yet to lead a lap at include: Phoenix International Raceway, Kansas Speedway, Kentucky Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Pocono Raceway, Michigan International Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

GEORGIA NATIVE: Red Horse Racing team owner Tom DeLoach calls Georgia home. DeLoach is a native of Statesboro, Georgia and studied chemical engineering at Georgia Tech, where he continues to serve on GT’s Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Advisory Board. The GT alum purchased Red Horse Racing during the 2005 season and currently fields two trucks, the No. 7 (Miguel Paludo) and No. 17 (Timothy Peters), in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Prior to his NASCAR ownership, DeLoach held various executive positions in Mobil Corporation, while serving as the senior contact for Mobil’s worldwide motorsports program. He is also a director and the non-executive Chairman for Asbury Automotive Group in Duluth, Georgia. < /p>

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 17 team will utilize chassis No. 003 this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This chassis last competed at Michigan International Speedway where Peters earned his career-best Truck Series finish of second at the two mile track.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last week at Bristol Motor Speedway, Peters and the No. 17 team had to pull out a backup truck after hitting the wall in the final practice session. Peters and the team fought from the back of the pack to work their way to a fifth-place finish. The run marked Peter’s career-best finish at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” and his fifth top-10 finish in the last five races.

The past two weeks you have scored your career best finishes. What do you think has made the difference? Do you think you can duplicate that this weekend in Atlanta?

“The past few weeks we have made good decisions and have been making good adjustments on pit road. We have also had a little bit of luck on our side. We certainly hope we can come out of Atlanta with a top-five finish, we are bringing the same truck we had in Michigan so I hope we have a similar result.”
