TEAM CHEVY DRIVER PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT
SEPTEMBER 2, 2011
PAUL MENARD, NO. 27 QUAKER STATE/MENARDS CHEVROLET, met with members of the media to discuss his participation in the Sprint Summer Showdown:
TALK ABOUT PARTICIPATING IN THE SPRINT SUMMER SHOWDOWN: “Obviously we are trying to make the Chase, first and foremost but this definitely adds extra incentive. We’ve got Habitat for Humanity is our charity and Andrea Gave from New Jersey I believe is our fan. A little extra added bonus. We’re not going to try any harder or less hard. We’re going hard. If we win this, it’s a big deal.”
DOES THIS PUT ANY EXTRA PRESSURE ON THE PIT STRATEGY? “It definitely depends on where you are at, how you are running. We took two tires last year and jumped from 10th to I believe second and I think it held on for fifth place. So it just depends on where you are running. For us, we have to win a race in order to get in the Chase. As Brad (Keselowski) has shown, he’s looks promising for him to be in. For us, four or five guys have to fight it out for that last spot. We’re definitely going to roll the dice and gamble and go for broke.”
IF YOU ARE DOOR TO DOOR, WILL YOU “PLAY DIRTY”? “I think Atlanta is one of the best race tracks we go to personally. It’s a great event for this, where, like Kyle (Busch) said there are some close finishes. There are two or three grooves. It is going to make a great finish. Regardless if you rub a guy the wrong way, its going to go down to the end. It is going to be a great race.”
