Regan Smith Finishes 27th in Richmond

[media-credit name=”rir.com” align=”alignright” width=”198″][/media-credit]RICHMOND, Va. (April 28, 2012) –– Regan Smith posted a 27th-place finish in Saturday night’s Capital City 400 Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway.

“Nothing clicked tonight – we are very disappointed,” said Smith. “We came here looking to turn things around and that didn’t happen. We’re going to dig deeper and get this program to where it should be.”

After a quarter of the 36-race schedule completed, Smith finds himself in 25th-place in the driver point standings.

“We expected a better position in the standings at this point of the season,” noted Smith. “I know it’s going to get better but the wait is sure testing our patience.”

Smith started the 400-lap race from the 15th position, but handling problems cost him to lose a number of spots in track position on the .75-mile short track.

“We fought different issues and never could get the necessary rhythm,” stated Smith. “We worked hard and the pit crew did another good job. But the bottom line is to produce finishing results. We haven’t done that lately.”

With Richmond in the rearview mirror, Smith is already looking to the next Sprint Cup Series race, which will be Sunday, May 6 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

“We have a history of performing at the superspeedways,” said Smith. “If we can stay out of trouble, we can getthe job done and come away with a solid finish.”

The Richmond race winner was Kyle Busch. Rounding out the top-10 in order were: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer, Mark Martin, Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards.
