Townley Posts 15th Place Finish in 2012 Nationwide Series Debut at Talladega Superspeedway

[media-credit name=”talladegasuperspeedway.com” align=”alignright” width=”300″][/media-credit]CONCORD, N.C. (May 7, 2012) – In a collaborative effort between SR2 Motorsports and RAB Racing with Brack Maggard, John Wes Townley piloted the No. 24 Toyota ‘Save in May’ Sales Event Toyota Camry to a 15th-place finish in Saturday’s Aaron’s 312 at Talladega Superspeedway.

After rain altered the anticipated schedule of the weekend, qualifying was cancelled and the starting lineup was set by owner’s points, placing Townley in the 26th slot. Nationwide Series final practice was postponed to Friday morning, where Townley recorded the 23rd-fastest lap.

Starting on the 13th row in his 2012 Nationwide Series debut, Townley wasted no time moving forward, improving 13 positions by Lap 10. As is often the case at restrictor plate tracks, pack racing led to numerous incidents throughout the race. Townley was involved in a minor incident on Lap 64, but the minor damage didn’t affect his ability to navigate through a string of multi-car wrecks as the laps wound down and he finished in the 15th position on the lead lap.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for not only giving me this opportunity, but for the hard work that it took just to get here,” Townley said. “This opportunity came together last minute, and I know the guys put in a lot of hours to get our ‘Save in May’ Sales Event Toyota Camry not just to the track, but to be as competitive as it was. It was an exciting race, and I couldn’t be happier to bring home a solid finish after all that we went through today.”

Townley will continue to sport the colors of the Toyota ‘Save in May’ Sales Event in two weeks, when he returns to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition behind the wheel of the No. 09 Toyota Tundra for the N.C. Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 18th, 2012.
