Statesville, N.C. (May 16, 2012) – The Sprint Showdown will be BK Racing’s first taste of non-points racing. Landon Cassill, driver of the Burger King/Dr Pepper Toyota, has fought to keep his No. 83 team inside the top-35 of the owner point standings since the squad’s formation in February. He’s excited to compete this Saturday with nothing to lose and everything to gain.
The No. 83 team has overcome crashes and engine difficulties, yet still remains 35th in the owner point standings. Cassill has been forced to play it safe at some venues to protect the team’s position. With no points at stake this weekend, he plans to let his bottled-up aggression out at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Comments from BK Racing Driver Landon Cassill heading into the Sprint Showdown:
“This is one of the most exciting races that we put on all year. It’s an action-packed, fast-paced race. With it being only 40 laps and there being so much to gain, everyone really pushes the envelope. I got wrapped up in a wreck last year in the first few laps, so I know how crazy it can get. I expect it to be just as wild this time.
“It’s important for us to be in the top-35 of the owner point standings. We’ve had some problems at a few tracks that have forced us to be a little bit conservative. We couldn’t get too risky and jeopardize our position. This weekend, we can put all that aside. There are no points to worry with. It’s going to be ‘no fear’ racing.
“At most of the tracks we go to, it’s important to save your equipment until the end of the race. I doubt you’ll hear any crew chief recommending that on Saturday. It’s going to be an all-out dash. If anyone is capable of getting to the front, they’re going to go for it. There won’t be any waiting or any hanging back. It’s go, go, go in the Sprint Showdown.
“What you’ve got to keep in mind is that the Showdown isn’t the All-Star race, so there’s some extra urgency to make it into the big show. Basically, if you don’t perform, your night is done, so you’re going to see everyone giving it all they’ve got. No one wants to be left out of the feature race.”
