[/media-credit]No. 93 Team Placing Emphasis on Qualifying to Earn Transfer Spot
Statesville, N.C. (May 16, 2012)Â – Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota, will be one of 22 drivers vying to earn a spot in the Sprint All-Star Race atCharlotte Motor Speedway. Kvapil’s plan for finishing in a transfer position of the Sprint Showdown is simple: start up front and stay up front.
With only 40 laps in the Sprint Showdown, Kvpail views time as the enemy. He doesn’t envision there being enough laps to wait for his car to settle in or slowly come to him. He can’t see there being enough laps for a driver to methodically come from the back of the field to the front. He predicts a mad dash, with the winner coming from the top-eight positions. Kvapil and his No. 93 BK Racing team will focus on their qualifying package in hopes of putting them in contention for Saturday night’s main event.
Last week was a monumental weekend for BK Racing. For the first time since the organization formed in February, it entered three cars an event. All three cars made the field, including Kvapil’s No. 73 Toyota, which finished 32nd following a fuel pressure issue. Although it wasn’t the finish the team hoped for, Kvapil sees the achievement as a step in the right direction for BK Racing and hopes to make another stride this weekend at Charlotte.

“This is an ‘all or nothing’ race for us. We’ll be going for it. There are no points at stake and a lot of money on the line. It’s going to be really competitive for sure. There are lots of good teams that will be trying to make the transfer spots. Basically everyone will be going for broke. I expect to see some sparks fly.
“Hopefully this is the year we can do it. The team has a lot of momentum going. Making Darlington last week was a huge step for us to get all three cars in the race. Hopefully we can carry that over into a good qualifying effort and a good race Saturday night in Charlotte.
“Really you’ve got to play your strategy out by how you qualify. If you qualify in the top six or eight positions, you’ve got a legitimate shot at making a transfer spot. If you’re towards the back of the pack, it’s going to be more about survival, not tearing up your equipment and bringing it back next week to try again. Hopefully we’ll get a good qualifying effort in. That’s going to be the key. It’s only a 40-lap race, so if you’re not up front, you won’t have much of a chance, so the key is to work on qualifying.”
