Pit Note #7: Blake Shelton, NASCAR 101, Pennzoil Victory Burnout Challenge Highlight Pre-Race Fun

Saturday, May 19, 2012 PIT NOTE #7

BURNOUTS – Kasey Kahne, Joey Logano, AJ Allmendinger, Brad Keselowski and Clint Bowyer will compete in this evening’s Pennzoil Victory Burnout Challenge at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The burnout competition will feature some of NASCAR’s best as they try to impress three celebrity judges during a 30-second freestyle burnout. It will take place on the speedway’s frontstretch at approximately 6:20 p.m., and it’s free to all NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race ticket holders.

This year’s celebrity judges include recent “Survivor One World” (season 24) winner Kim Spradlin; actor Colby Donaldson, a three-time “Survivor” competitor and host of The History Channel’s “Top Shots;” and Miss Sprint Cup.

Kahne is the defending winner of the event, while Logano won the 2010 contest. All five drivers will use identically prepared stock cars prepared by Richard Petty Driving Experience, and the winner will earn $10,000 for his favorite charity.

SHELTON PRE-RACE CONCERT TODAY – Country music superstar and coach on NBC’s “The Voice” Blake Shelton will entertain fans at 3:15 p.m. today with a pre-race concert.

A three-time GRAMMY nominee and the Country Music Association’s (CMA’s) reigning Male Vocalist of the Year, Shelton is known for a slew of No. 1 hits, including “Austin,” “Ol’ Red,” “God Gave Me You” and “Drink On It.”

Shelton’s 70-minute performance, presented by Target, will take place in the infield between Turns 1 and 2. Show admission is free with a ticket to tonight’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.

NASCAR 101 FOR FANS – Fans looking for an excellent introduction to racing can attend a NASCAR 101 question-and-answer sessions today at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The informational event will take place at The Sprint Experience area next to the speedway’s main entrance.

The session begins at 4:45 p.m. and will feature four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon talking to Miss Sprint Cup.

FAN ZONE – Ten thousand tons of asphalt have paved the way for a new and improved Fan Zone at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The new fan area is located outside Turn 1 near the speedway’s main entrance, and it houses everything a fan would need to while away time until the on-track action begins. Merchandise haulers, interactive games and displays and an expanded POWERADE Play Zone – with its bounce houses, face painters, games, activities and a Ferris Wheel – offer activities for every age range.
