Parker Kligerman (No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger) Finished 8th “A solid day for the Discount Tire Dodge Challenger. Not exactly the day I was hoping for other than we had clean car at the end, ran solid all day and brought home a top-10 finish. We ran solid all day. The first run the car was tight and it looked like we corded right-front tire. We got lucky that it didn’t blow out. We fought all day. We just couldn’t get ahead of the track. None of us anticipated that the track would get that tight.
“The biggest thing for me driving this car with crew chief Jeremy Bullins for the first time is that we improved the car every (pit) stop of the race. We got better and better all race. We had top-five pace; we just couldn’t get the track position. I think that we were a fifth or sixth-place car. I’m proud of the guys that work on this race car. We’ll have a few more chances this year to go out and try to get these guys a win.”
Sam Hornish Jr. (No. 12 Detroit Genuine Parts Dodge Challenger) Finished 12th IT LOOK LIKED YOU GUYS STRUGGLED WITH RIGHT-FRONT TIRE WEAR MOST OF THE DAY? “We corded the right-front tire on the first run. We corded another on the third run of the day and blew a right-front out on the last lap with only 40 laps on the tire after we worked our way from a two laps down and getting back on the lead lap. It looked like we were going to bring home an eighth-place finish until the right-front blew out on the last lap. It was a frustrating and confusing day for sure. Our tire issues kept getting worse and worse all day long. Something was moving and allowing us to gain camber and getting us more and more on the inside of that right-front.”
DID YOU HAVE ANY RIGHT-FRONT TIRE ISSUES YESTERDAY IN PRACTICE? “None at all. We had really good tire wear in practice yesterday with the Detroit Genuine Parts Dodge. We were really happy with how the car handled and qualified great. To start up front and lead the first 30 laps was cool. Our car felt great and there wasn’t any sign that we were having tire issues. Our first set of tires lasted almost 80 laps. The last set only lasted 40. There’s more rubber on the track. Something was going wrong in the right-front, we’re just not sure yet.”
