Ford Racing NSCS Notes & Quotes:
Pennsylvania 400 (Pocono Raceway)
NSCS Post Race Quotes (August 4, 2012)
*Note – Sunday’s Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway was called short due to rain on lap 98 of 160.
GREG BIFFLE, No. 16 3M Ford Fusion — YOU DON’T SEEM HAPPY WITH WHERE YOU ARE SLOTTED IF THEY CALL THIS RACE. “I don’t know what happened, well I do know what happened, the 48 just spun out. I never even slowed down. I went up, kissed the fence, shifted down and was digging like hell. I had to wait for the 17 to cross in front of me and watched him take the 11 out then I went and they put me all the way back to 16th. There is no way. No way.”
MATT KENSETH, No. 17 Zest Ford Fusion – WALK US THROUGH THE INCIDENT WITH THE 48. “Well, on that last restart one actually widened out pretty good and on that last restart we took off and the 2 didn’t get going and I had a pretty good gap so I crossed the line and was going to pull behind Jimmie (Johnson) and when I pulled down to go behind him I got a little draft and actually pulled up to his door and so I decided to race him through there and we went off into one and I could hear his pipes. I wasn’t sure he has lifted yet. He drove in really, really far and spun out underneath me and I got wrecked.” COULD YOU TELL HE HAD A FLAT? “I don’t think he had a flat, did he? I don’t think so.” ARE YOU OKAY WITH WHERE YOU ARE SCORED? “I don’t even know where we are scored. I didn’t look. I don’t know where I am scored.” DID YOU THINK YOU HAD SOMETHING FOR HIM IF IT HADN’T RAINED? “We knew it was going to rain and we were about the same speed. They were really fast and he had the best car but on that restart I thought I could race him through one and maybe get a run off turn one then maybe I could hold him off. That was the plan, to dig as hard as I could through there and try to race him off that corner. Like I said, he just drove in incredibly far and spun out. Maybe he had a flat but I am not so sure about that.” ARE YOU MAD? “I am not mad at him it is just that you race for the win and I thought I gave enough room down there. He drove in hard because he is racing for the win too. We are in a situation where we need to win some races too. You don’t mind if something happens it is just a bummer when it takes you out after you are running top three all day and finish 22nd or wherever we are. That is very disappointing and it is hard to look at the bright spot in that. That is just part of it though.”
CARL EDWARDS, No. 99 Fastenal Ford Fusion – “We needed another restart. It is too bad that the rain came when it did because we needed to keep racing. We had a really good car but got a poor restart on that last one which was the important start. The good news is that we were fast and Chad has done a really good job with the car and I am really looking forward to next week. I have never wanted to race so bad in my life. I want to be racing right now.”
