Victory Junction Hosts 7th Annual Run to Victory and Public Open House

Victory Junction Hosts 7th Annual ‘Run To Victory’ October 27th

Open House to follow

Randleman, NC (Sept. 12)— Victory Junction will open its gates to the public on Saturday, October 27, 2012 for two anticipated annual events: the 7th Annual Run to Victory, consisting of a half marathon and a 5k, and Open House, held in conjunction with Randleman NASCAR Days. Both of these events offer the public an opportunity to explore Victory Junction’s 84-acre campus and learn more about its mission and the individuals it serves.

Run to Victory will start and finish at Victory Junction and welcomes participants at all levels to run, walk and wheel through the rural roads of Randleman, NC beginning at 8:00am. Athletes will receive a finisher medal, post-race meal, facility tour, participant t-shirt and personalized bib. The post-race festivities will also include an award ceremony to acknowledge top finishers separated by age groups and events.

Participants are encouraged to register for Run to Victory online at www.teamseriousfun.org/runtovictory. Online registration offers inspiring opportunities to set up personalized fundraising webpages to spread the word to family, friends and colleagues. Prizes will be awarded for top fundraisers at a celebration dinner held on Friday, October 26, 2012.

“It is hard to explain the magnitude of Victory Junction, so being able to see it yourself during Run to Victory is ideal,” explained camper parent, race participant and fundraiser Dawn Mock. “Many of the individuals I asked to support this event will run or walk with me, but others have donated generously because they know the impact this camp has had on our family.”

The 2011 half marathon and 5k attracted more than 650 participants from North Carolina, with a handful from neighboring states and as far north as Michigan.

“I am honored that so many people are willing to come out and support this annual event,” said camp founder, Kyle Petty. “I believe the true motivation for the event is knowing that 100% of the event proceeds sends more deserving children through the gates of Victory Junction. Run to Victory gives athletes, the community, and donors the opportunity to visit camp, and see firsthand the magic that our campers experience. Participants and supporters alike are able to see the influence of their donation on that of a chronically ill child.”

Open House will begin at 1:00pm following Run to Victory. All of camp’s program areas will be open including Adam’s Race Shop which houses NASCAR games, NASCAR cars used for pit stop instruction, authentic driver uniforms to try on and a slot car track. Jessie’s Horsepower Garage is another popular camper zone complete with horses, sheep, llamas and donkeys. These buildings and more will be accessible for the public to explore while Victory Junction staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and share stories about the inspirational moments that transpire on site.

Victory Circle, which is the grassy plaza at the center of camp, will be buzzing with children’s games and music provided by the Shriner’s Oriental Band. Fall festival food will be sold and a parade showcasing Shriner mini-vehicles including trucks and gators will charge through camp. The Kurt Busch Superdome will play host to “Vic’s Garage Sale” where NASCAR memorabilia and other various items can be found with all proceeds benefitting camp.

To attend open house, guests will ride a shuttle from the Richard Petty Museum, located at 142 West Academy Street in Randleman, to Victory Junction. The shuttle will run continuously from 1pm. – 4 pm ET. For more information regarding Open House, contact Nona Pryor at (336) 495-2038 or npryor@victoryjunction.org.
