(MOORESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA) October 22, 2012 – The Kansas Lottery 300 was shaping up to be maybe the best race of the season for the MacDonald Motorsports No. 81 team. After six cautions in the first 70 laps of the race, Jason and his www.SUPPORTMILITARY.org/Thrush & Son No. 81 team had positioned themselves nicely into the top-10. Unfortunately, contact with another car on lap 82 caused serious damage to the rear of the No. 81 car, sending Jason to the pits and ending the team’s chances at a top-10 finish.
“We had a strong car and it’s really unfortunate that we got involved in that issue about 80 laps in,” explained Bowles. “We were really starting to make some strides and the yellows were helping us adjust on the car early on. It was really good to race with the top teams in the series inside the top-10 for a while there too. Hopefully we can run up their again in two weeks at Texas.”
After a lap 72 restart, the Support Military Foundation/Thrush & Son No. 81 was running inside the top-10 and keeping pace nicely with the biggest teams in the Nationwide Series. While running 10th, contact with the No. 30 on lap 82 sent Jason sliding into the turn two wall with extensive damage to his race car.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the MacDonald Motorsports crew for the way they battled back from our crash,” said Jason. “The car was really beat up but they got it back out on the track and we only ended up losing four laps. It was a great effort by them and it keeps our hopes of a top-20 owners points finish alive. I have to say thanks to Thrush & Son Complete Home Improvement as well. They stepped up and presented the www.SUPPORT MILITARY.org No. 81, helping raise awareness for members of the armed forces and their families.”
The recovery by the MacDonald Motorsports team keeps Jason 13th in the driver standings. The team was also able to stay 22nd in the owners points, just 18 points back from 20th.
Next week will mark the final off-weekend for the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series season before the final three races. Two weeks away is the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge from Texas Motor Speedway. That race can be seen live on ESPN on Saturday, November 3rd at 7PM ET.
