Townley Posts Career-Best Starting Position at Texas

CONCORD, N.C. (November 5, 2012) – John Wes Townley and the RAB Racing team headed to Texas Motor Speedway to compete in Friday’s WinStar World Casino 350, where the RAB Racing team proved that they had a fast Toyota Tundra after Townley drove the RAB Racing machine to his career-best starting position of eighth.

In Thursday’s dual Camping World Truck Series practices, Townley posted speeds fast enough for the seventh and 16th position, respectively. Friday afternoon, the 22-year-old driver toured the 1.5-mile tri-oval in 30.198 seconds, at an average speed of 178.820mph in qualifying, placing him on the fourth row for Friday night’s race.

Throughout the 147-lap race, the Watkinsville, Ga., native raced within the top 15. Unfortunately for the No. 09 team, midway through the race Townley got areo-tight behind a competitor, causing him to make contact with the outside wall. After swift attention by the Chris Rice-led pit crew, Townley returned to the racetrack and was able to take the checkered flag in the 16th position.

“Our Zaxby’s Tundra was really good tonight, Chris Rice and the guys at RAB Racing did a great job,” said Townley. “Unfortunately, I got tight coming up off the corner and hit the wall. That killed the rest of our night. I hate it for everyone that worked so hard to give me a good truck. It’s unfortunate. But, we’ll regroup, head to Phoenix, and see what we can do there.”

Despite finishing 16th, Townley held steady at 15th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series point standings.

The next stop for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will be Phoenix International Raceway on Friday, November 9, 2012.
