Wise Is Rare Driver with Early Success at Pocono

No. 35 Ford Found Speed at Tricky Triangle in First Visits

STATESVILLE, N.C. (June 4, 2013) – Most drivers walk away from their first experience at Pocono Raceway shaking their heads.  The 2.5-mile triangular oval with three different corners can be difficult to learn and master, but Josh Wise found good speed in his No. 35 MDS Transport Ford in his first two visits last year. He and his Front Row Motorsports team look forward to returning to the Long Pond, Pa., track this weekend for the Sprint Cup Series’ Party in the Poconos 400.

Wise is coming off a top-25 finish at Dover (Del.) International Speedway last weekend.  He battled the “Monster Mile” for 400 miles and avoided trouble to finish 25th, his second-best result of the 2013 season.

Sunday’s event will be Wise’s third Sprint Cup Series start at Pocono.

Comments from MDS Transport team driver Josh Wise heading to Pocono:

“I do like Pocono.  Although, I have to say, I always tell people my favorite track is the next one I’m going to.  I’m just always eager to race.  Pocono was real good to us last year.  We had a really good car there and had some good speed, so it’s somewhere that I look forward to going back to.  I think after the repave, it was a lot racier than everyone thought it was going to be.  So I think it’s going to be a great place to go racing this weekend and put on a good show for the fans.

“Trying to figure out the three different turns is hard.  The crew chiefs have their work cut out for them because every corner is different on the track.  These cars are so sensitive to aero balance and the travels and loads.  And we go to a place like that and we see different loads in three different corners, so it makes it really challenging – for the crew chiefs and for the drivers.  It’s a give-and-take sometimes.  You’ve got to be good at places and sacrifice other places.  Trying to determine where that needs to be can be challenging.”
