Five Sprint Cup Contenders To Watch at Kansas

Going into Kansas this weekend, we are celebrating Mother’s Day. Let’s see some drivers that are going to make their momma’s proud, and that we need to keep an eye on during the Sprint Cup Series race there Saturday Night.

Kevin Harvick –

Harvick has been on a roll this season. Not only is he locked into the Chase with two wins so far this season, but his cars have also been fast. Had it not been for a few mechanical issues and accidents, Harvick may potentially have more wins under his belt. Coming into Kansas, fans can’t help but think back to last fall, during the Kansas race that Kevin Harvick not only started from the pole, but also went on to dominate,(leading 138 laps) and win the race. Keep your eyes on Kevin Harvick coming into Sunday’s race.

Jimmie Johnson –

Johnson, though winless this season, has shown potential. At Kansas, he has the second highest driver’s rating. Coming off of a run like Talladega, Johnson needs to redeem himself. Expect Johnson to be a key player coming into Kansas.

Matt Kenseth –

Kenseth, another veteran Sprint Cup champion without a win this season, was an expert at the intermediate tracks last year. Heading into Kansas, Kenseth has the second best finishing average at the intermediate tracks this season. With two wins under his belt already at Kansas, expect Kenseth to finish near the front this weekend.

Dale Earnhardt Jr –

Despite being the first one out and going up in flames while trying to mow the grass  at the last intermediate track (Texas), and coming off a less than stellar finish at Talladega, Dale Jr is going to be looking for vengeance. Will he try and cut the grass again at Kansas? I don’t know. If he doesn’t, then expect him and the 88 team to be contenders at Kansas, and his fifth best drivers rating at Kansas is encouraging.

Joey Logano –

The only other driver with two wins this season will be looking for a third this weekend when going into Kansas. He won the last race at an intermediate track and finished fourth at Vegas. Expect the young veteran to be somewhere near the front this weekend at Kansas.
