AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:
Some people say Dover International Speedway is like a roller coaster, is that an accurate assessment?
“That’s definitely an accurate assessment. With the new rules it’s going to be so fast. I’m looking forward to getting there. As drivers, we can really get after it behind the wheel. Dover is just a fun place to race.”
How tricky is getting on pit road there?
“It’s okay. You’re more worried about making mistakes with other people running into the back of you. The actual act of getting slowed down is not that bad. Charlotte Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway are probably the toughest places to get slowed down to come down pit road.”
Paul Menard
No. 27 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet SS
Event Preview Fact Sheet
This Week’s Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet at Dover International Speedway … Paul Menard will pilot chassis No. 466 in the 400-mile event at Dover International Speedway. This No. 27 Chevrolet SS was previously raced this year at Kansas Speedway, where Menard finished in the 17th position.
Dover by the numbers … Menard has 13 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at Dover International Speedway. His best start of ninth and best finish of seventh both took place in 2010. The Wisconsin native has completed 5,140 of 5,200 laps attempted (98.8 percent) at the one-mile track. In addition to his 13 Sprint Cup Series starts, Menard has 10 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Dover. He has one top-five and four top-10 finishes. Menard’s best finish of second came in 2012 at the concrete oval.
About Pittsburgh Paints … PPG Pittsburgh® Paints is a nationally recognized brand trusted by painting contractors, building owners, architects, designers and homeowners for over 100 years. Products include interior/exterior paints and interior/exterior stains. For additional information, please visit www.ppgpittsburghpaints.com.
Ready to paint? … Pittsburgh Paints recommends you keep a wet edge on your paint brush and use a “W” or “M” pattern on your interior walls. This will help spread the paint and keep an even pattern on the surface. Also keep in mind, most latex paint takes up to 60 days to “fully cure” but in most cases it’s ready for use after a day or two. You should wait for at least 14 days after a fresh coat of latex paint before attempting to wipe or wash walls.
Season-to-date … Through the first 12 Sprint Cup Series races of the 2014 season, Menard has completed 3,832 of 3,957 laps contested (96.8 percent), led 45 laps and is currently 16th in the driver point standings.
Looking Back … In last year’s 400-lap race, Menard started the No. 27 Chevrolet from the 16th position and fought an ill-handling race car through the event, ultimately finishing 20th.
PAUL MENARD QUOTES:
How physically demanding is Dover International Speedway?
“Dover is probably one of the toughest places. My top three would probably be Dover, Darlington and some of the 1.5-mile tracks. Dover is very physical since it’s usually pretty hot and muggy. It’s the humidity that gets you more than anything, you know, for whatever reason the helmet blowers always seem to stop working when it’s nice and humid out. Dover is one of the most demanding tracks, but also very fun to drive. You definitely get a big sensation for speed out of all the tracks and you can move around a lot, which makes it interesting.”
Does it actually feel like a rollercoaster?
“In qualifying it definitely does, then during the race as the pace drops off you lose a little bit of that sensation once you’re in your rhythm. It’s pretty exciting.”
Do you like concrete tracks in general?
“Not really, but Dover has been kind of bittersweet to us. We’ve had some good runs and we’ve had some bad runs. There’s just something about concrete that’s’ really hard to get the tires to follow the row with all the real high-frequency seams.”

This Week’s Caterpillar Chevrolet SS at Dover International Speedway … Ryan Newman will drive chassis No. 441 on Sunday at Dover International Speedway. Point of Interest … Newman ranks 10th in the Sprint Cup Series championship point standings, trailing the current leader by 71 points, entering the 13th event on the schedule, the FedEx 400 presented by Autism Speaks.
Race Rewind … Last season, Newman was relegated to a 36th-place finish as a result of a power-steering issue and a late-race accident.
RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES:
Do you like racing at Dover International Speedway?
“Dover is one of my favorite race tracks on the circuit. It doesn’t seem to change a whole lot year-to-year. It is just a fun place that you can drop down in the corners and pull up through the straightaways. It’s a fun track and a great place to race. I always look forward to it and it’s a place where I feel the No. 31 Caterpillar team can contend for the race win.”
Bristol and Dover are different tracks and yet, they are both concrete. Can you take any information from Bristol and apply it to this weekend’s race?
“To me, Dover is a big Bristol, but the speed is so much more different. That’s the big multiplier in the equation. Things happen a lot quicker and you have to also consider the elevation change at Dover versus Bristol, but I find both a lot of fun to race on.”

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTES:
They call Dover the Monster Mile, is it a Monster to drive?
“I think it is. I think the greatest sensation of speed is at Dover over anywhere else we race. You really fall into the corners and carry a lot of speed on the concrete. Everything about Dover is really unique, which is what makes it fun and exciting. I’ve always loved Dover. I’ve had good success there in the Truck Series and the Nationwide Series. I’m looking forward to it, it’s a fun place.”
How physically demanding is Dover?
“It is demanding. If your car is setup pretty well, it becomes less and less physically demanding. It’s never been what I would consider one of the most demanding. Because normally we go there and it’s not as hot. The heat is what, I think, brings in the physical aspect. The hotter it is, like in the summer months, those are the tougher races where you have to put in some extra hydration and physique.”

TY DILLON QUOTE:
What are you looking forward to this weekend in Dover?
“The team and I had an opportunity to go to Dover a few weeks ago to be a part of a Goodyear tire test, and fortunately we were able to gather a lot of data and notes on the track. It’s a really great track, the fans love racing up there and it’s where I made my Nationwide Series debut. This could definitely be a track where we could make some noise and get into victory lane.”

CALE CONLEY QUOTES:
What are your thoughts heading into this weekend?
“Dover is a fun and fast track. You definitely have to “cowboy up” and go for it when running there. We need a good race to rebound off the last couple, and what better place to do it than at the Monster. If we lock ourselves into the top-12 in qualifying, we can definitely come out with a top-10 and maybe a top-five finish. I know the cars Nick Harrison and the guys build are capable, I just have to do my job behind the seat. I hope Dover is a nice monster to us and a mean one to the rest of my competition.”
What is the feeling is when driving into the corners at Dover International Speedway?
“I think what gives Dover such a unique feel is where most race tracks you drive into the corner, at Dover you drive down into it. As you drop into Turn 1 and 3 you lose the feel of the car, it’s such a weird sensation. Before the race car lands back into the track it spooks you, and that’s where Dover gets its intimidation. Your stomach is still sitting back on the front-stretch while you’re in the middle of the corner.
Can you compare driving a K&N car to a Nationwide car at Dover International Speedway?
“If there’s a big difference between K&N and Nationwide on any of the tracks this season, Dover will be the most. K&N is so underpowered; you literally don’t have to be off the gas that much and I’m sure in the Nationwide cars you have to let off.”
Brendan Gaughan

Event Preview Fact Sheet
This Week’s South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet at Dover International Speedway … This weekend at Dover International Speedway, Brendan Gaughan and his No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro will race chassis No. 109 at the one-mile speedway. To the Points …Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team remain seventh in the driver point standings as the Nationwide Series heads to Dover this weekend.
BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTES:
How intense is Dover International Speedway with it being concrete?
“I love Dover. If you are talking race tracks, Dover is one that gets your blood pumping. You drive off a three-story building going into Turn 1, it is so much fun. Hopefully rubber will get laid down, that is what gives you the multiple grooves around the race track. There are also a couple of ripples in the concrete that creates a little looseness going into Turn 3. Dover is just a ton of fun and a challenging place.”
How physically demanding is Dover?
“It is very demanding. It is the only place that I have had to be reminded by my spotter to breathe. I came in after one of my practice runs, barely able to give feedback because I had been holding my breath out on the track so much.”
