Capital City Speedway – Quaker State Lincoln Welders Modified Takes Podium

July 5th                                               Race #14

On Saturday July 5th our team made the 6 hour journey to Capital City Speedway.  It was our first time at this long established race track and this visit marked our 38th different race track in 46 seasons.

We got there in plenty of time to check out the track and actually walk around the 3/8th mile oval.  I had always wanted to race here, but rules and race scheduling did not permit us to make the trek.  It was a beautiful day, and we met many wonderful people, including some young racers and their family from Quebec. The brother and sister team grew close to us and we gave them our Quaker State souvenir programs and autograph cards.

The nice thing about this track was that most all of the OSCAAR Modified drivers had not been on the track before making set up and gearing a challenge and best guess.  The races were a Twin 25 format. There was only one points and payout finish, and that was determined by the combined finish of both feature races.

Many other teams came by to check out our car and meet our team. It was a very friendly and peaceful atmosphere.  The sun was hot, but we remember this past winter and so there were no complaints about the temperature.

We qualified through time trials, and though I over drove one corner badly, we were 3rd quickest putting 2nd row inside for the first feature.

The first feature was won by point leader and 2013 Champion Gary McLean.

At the end of the first feature we knew we would need to get a little more jump so Bob and Marty got under the car and changed the gears.

What gear oil did we use?   The best!!!  Quaker State Full Synthetic  :)

In the second feature we started near the rear. The competition was very close and this fast track demanded patience and driving with respect.

We charged hard in this one making it to 6th place and giving us an overall finish of 3rd for the day.  It was a great day for our team and sponsors and many commented on our professional look and the driving of the club overall.

Rookie sensation, 14 year old Dustin Jackson #61, was the fastest in time trials and finished 2nd overall, while another rookie, Max Beyore won the second 25 lap race and finished 6th overall.  The drivers did well on this track given that most had never been on it before.

Mini Stock Team Gets Bad Break

Sunset Speedway

July 5th

Lauren has been driving the wheels off her Mini Stock this season and though she has been rewarded with two checker flags, she has had a run of bad luck that has set her and her team back.

Lauren was leading this race when she was hit and spun around.  The spin out took her out of the win, but what followed did serious damage to her car. She was okay, though heartbroken. It looked like her race to win.

Lauren is determined and made it out for the big race but could not drive the car like she wanted. It needs some TLC and will get that this week through one of our sponsors Oakville Trailers.   I took the car to Ron Easton and he will put it on a steel surface plate to check how bad the frame is bent and fix i for us.
