RCR Nationwide Series Indianapolis Motor Speedway Post Race Report

Ty Dillon qualified third for the Lilly’s Diabetes 250 and was the highest qualifying Richard Childress Racing entry at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Teammates Paul

Menard, Brian Scott, and Brendan Gaughan qualified ninth, 10th and 17th respectively.

RCR teammates Paul Menard, Brian Scott, and Brendan Gaughan finished sixth, seventh and 19th respectively.

Brian Scott and Ty Dillon qualified for the fourth and final round of the $100,000 Dash 4 Cash bonus at Iowa Speedway next week.

Ty Dillon currently leads the RCR drivers in the Nationwide Series driver point standings in fourth, while Brian Scott is fifth and Brendan Gaughan eighth.

Brian Scott Earns 10th Top-10 Finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Smokey Mountain Herbal Snuff Chevrolet Camaro qualified for the Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the 10th position. Scott battled inside the top-10 for the majority of the 100-lap event at the historic track. Strategy was the name of the game for the players in the Nationwide Series. Scott was loose off of turn one and fought a tight-handling race car as long green-flag runs went on. On the final restart of the event, Scott was scored in the 11th position and gained four positions when he took the checkered flag finishing seventh. Scott’s finish secured his position in the final Nationwide Insurance Dash 4 Cash program at Iowa Speedway next week.

Ty Dillon Wins the Lilly Diabetes 250 at the Brickyard, Dash4Cash

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro to his first career NASCAR Nationwide Series victory on Saturday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Nationwide Insurance’s Dash4Cash $100,000 bonus. Dillon “kissed the bricks” with his fellow teammates following a strong run by the No. 3 Camaro  where he led the final 24 laps following a green-flag restart on lap 77. For most of the race, the 22-year-old Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender was able to keep his Camaro inside the top-five. He qualified third earlier in the day and ran the first 31 laps inside the top three. He only fell outside of the top-five when his car was off pit sequence with the remainder of the field. Following a series of strategic pit stops on lap 16, 31 and lap 60, Dillon and crew chief Danny Stockman felt good about their track position and the car’s balance to finish the race near the front. The No. 3 Camaro gambled on fuel strategy, but Dillon crossed the finish line with just enough gas to secure the team’s first victory of 2014. This was crew chief Danny Stockman’s first Nationwide Series race  win since 2012. Additionally, Dillon moved within 15 points of the leader in the driver point standings, remaining fourth, and qualified again for next week’s Dash4Cash bonus at Iowa Speedway.

Paul Menard Finishes Sixth at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 NIBCO/Menards Chevrolet Camaro to a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s 100-lap event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Eau Claire, Wis., driver started ninth and raced inside the top 10 for 37 laps of competition. The NIBCO/Menards driver radioed that the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro was loose off the turns. Crew chief Nick Harrison was able to remedy this during the lap 60 pit stop where he called for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment. The RCR driver would only race outside of the top 10 during green-flag pit stops when he was cycled to the 23rd-position. Menard  raced his way back into the top 10 and ultimately finished in the sixth position. Up next for Menard in the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro is the Zippo 200 at the Glen at Watkins Glen International on August 9th.

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 19th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro started the NASCAR Nationwide Series Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the 17th position. With the threat of a mechanical issue early in the race, crew chief Shane Wilson took advantage of the first caution on lap 15 to bring the Las Vegas-native to pit road to evaluate the situation. The No. 62 Camaro restarted 31st and Gaughan battled to overcome the early issues throughout the day, working his way up to 14th on lap 46.  He finished his day at the Brickyard in 19th-place. Gaughan and the No. 62 Richard Childress Racing team are currently eighth in the driver point standings as the series heads to Iowa Speedway next weekend.
