Gilliland: Michigan Is ‘Fastest I’ve Ever Gone in a Race Car’

Love’s Travel Stops Driver Says Track Is Getting Its Groove Back

STATESVILLE, AUGUST 12, 2014 – David Gilliland, driver of the No. 38 Love’s Travel Stops Ford, comments on racing at Michigan International Speedway:”Michigan is extremely fast and a lot of fun. It’s probably the fastest I’ve ever gone in a race car. We ran pretty well at Michigan last year and this year. So, we’re hoping to go back and take some of that speed we’ve had before, improve on it and have a good day in our Love’s Travel Stops Ford.

“The track is starting to get some of its old character back. After they repaved it a few years ago, the groove was pretty narrow, which sounds crazy because Michigan is such a wide track. But it’s starting to widen out a little bit, and you can get a little racier now.”

JUST THE FACTS:  Gilliland has 16 Sprint Cup career starts at Michigan International Speedway … He has two top-20 finishes at the two-mile oval … His top finish at Michigan is 17th (2007) … Love’s Travel Stops returns as primary sponsor for Sunday’s race … Gilliland will sign autographs at Flat Rock Speedway on Saturday before the ARCA/CRA Super Series race, in which is son, Todd, is entered.

. @DavidGilliland will sign autographs Saturday at @FlatRockSpeed before the ARCA/CRA Super Series race (approx 6:30pm).
