LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug 16, 2014) – Ryan Reed and the No. 16 American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop DiabetesSM presented by Lilly Diabetes team finished 12th at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course after going to a back-up car for the second week in a row. After a qualifying accident, Reed carefully worked his way through traffic to bring home his Mustang with another top-15 finish.
“This Drive to Stop Diabetes team never gives up,” said Reed. “They worked all afternoon to get this back up car ready. We kept the car clean and came home with another solid finish. It wasn’t exactly what we were hoping for, but the team gave a solid effort. We’ll look forward to Bristol and try again there.”
The NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) visited its third and final road course of the season, traveling to Mid-Ohio for a 90-lap race. Reed qualified his Mustang in 28th, but was forced to go to a back-up car after sustaining damage to the back of the No. 16 Mustang.
After starting at the rear of the field, Reed patiently worked his way through traffic climbing up to 26th by the time the first caution flag flew on Lap 4.
Crew Chief Seth Barbour called his driver down pit road for the first time of the day for a green flag stop on Lap 25 for four tires, fuel and no adjustments. When stops cycled through, Reed found himself 14th.
During the next few runs, Reed continued to run in the top-15. On Lap 60 the team visited pit road for the final time for a fuel only pit stop. Barbour immediately instructed Reed to save fuel. The fuel strategy worked out, netting the No. 16 team its 11th top-15 finish of the season.
