FORD RACING DID YOU KNOW? … ATLANTA EDITION

DID YOU KNOW? … When Team Penske’s Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski swept the top two spots on Saturday night at Bristol Motor Speedway it marked the second 1-2 finish for Ford in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this season.  The first time it occurred was also at BMS in the spring when Roush Fenway’s Carl Edwards (1st) and Ricky Stenhouse (2nd) did it.

DID YOU KNOW (PART 2)? … Ironically, the last three times Ford has posted 1-2 finishes it has been by teammates.  The Front Row Motorsports duo of David Ragan (1st) and David Gilliland (2nd) achieved the feat at Talladega on May 5, 2013.

DID YOU KNOW? … The first driver to sweep both NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the same season was Marvin Panch, who did it with the Wood Brothers in 1965.

DID YOU KNOW? … Ford’s first win at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series came courtesy of 2015 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Fred Lorenzen, who won the Festival 250 in 1961.  Lorenzen won four consecutive seasons at AMS (1961-64) and posted 26 overall wins with Ford in his career.

DID YOU KNOW? … Morgan Shepherd won Ford’s 400th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1993 when he won the snow-delayed Motorcraft 500 while driving for the Wood Brothers.  The original race was scheduled for March 14, but was delayed six days due to 6-8 inches of snow that blanketed the Metro Atlanta area.  That win was Shepherd’s fourth and final win of his career.

DID YOU KNOW? … Carl Edwards has the last three Ford wins in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway, including a season sweep in 2005.

DID YOU KNOW? … Bill Elliott posted a pair of season sweeps in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series during his career (1985 and 1992).  Elliott won five series races overall with his other victory coming in 1987.
