Fourth Annual Haubstadt Hustler Brings Tracy Hines to Tri-State Speedway

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—September 11, 2014Late season special events abound as the schedule winds down for most tracks in the Midwest. In Indiana, one of the last big sprint car races is the Haubstadt Hustler at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt. This single night event brings together, both the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and Midwest Sprint Car Series for a full night of action. Three editions of the Haubstadt Hustler have been contested dating back to 2011, and Tracy Hines has raced in each and every one. He’ll keep his perfect attendance intact at the event this weekend as he takes the Carolina Nut Company DRC to Tri-State Speedway.

The 2014 edition of the Haubstadt Hustler, which is co-sanctioned by the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car series and the Midwest Sprint Car Series, is set for Saturday, September 13 at Tri-State Speedway. A full racing program is in store with a 40-lap, $10,000-to-win A-Feature capping the night at the quarter-mile bullring.

“This is one of the few races during the year where we don’t have time trials,” said Hines. “Heat races are always important, but even more so when passing points are in effect. Some of it comes down to where you draw for the heat, but you also need a good car to finish up front if you start up front or to pass cars if you start at the back.”

Hines has made a pair of starts with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series at Tri-State Speedway this season. He finished 14th on April 26 and was 19th on July 19during Indiana Sprint Week. The veteran driver has one win with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series at Tri-State Speedway, with that coming in 2002. Hines finished eighth in the Haubstadt Hustler last season and was also eighth in the inaugural edition of the event in 2011, while he was 17th in the race in 2012.

“We haven’t had the best of runs at Haubstadt this year, so we’ll kind of put a few of the things we tried in those races on the back burner and try something different,” Hines said. “We won on a smaller track earlier this year and feel like we have made some progress since that time. Things happen in a hurry at Haubstadt, and being alert of your surroundings, especially in traffic, is always a key.”

Last weekend, Hines finished second in the Tony Bettenhausen 100 for the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. He opened the event as the third-fastest driver in time trials of the 24 entries at the one-mile dirt oval. Hines would run second for the duration of the race to winner Kody Swanson. Hines is currently second in Silver Crown points to Swanson, 27 points out of the lead with two races remaining.

Entering the Haubstadt Hustler at Tri-State Speedway, Hines is eighth in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. He has one win with the series in 2014, with that coming on April 25 at Gas City I-69 Speedway in his home state of Indiana. The 2002 series champion has 14 top-10 finishes in 21 starts.
