Medal of Honor Recipient, USO to Ride Shotgun with Bayne in Phoenix

CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 4, 2014) – Trevor Bayne’s No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang will have a different look this weekend when it hits the track for the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) event at Phoenix International Raceway. Along with the red, white and blue colors of the USO, the name of Medal of Honor recipient Frederick Ferguson will be carried on the passenger door of the No. 6 Mustang.

“I am very excited and honored to have the USO colors on our Ford Mustang this weekend as well as the name of Medal of Honor recipient Frederick Ferguson on our door,” said Bayne. “Frederick’s story is incredible and I hope that we will be able to take our No. 6 AdvoCare Ford carrying his name to Victory Lane at the end of the day on Saturday.”

Ferguson received the Medal of Honor on May 17, 1969 following his actions during the beginning stages of the Tet Offensive in Viet Nam. On January 31, 1968, Chief Warrant Officer Ferguson flew his helicopter through heavy enemy fire to rescue five American soldiers trapped in Hue, South Vietnam after their helicopter had been shot down.

Heading into this weekend, Bayne ranks sixth in the NNS championship standings with five top-five and 20 top-10 finishes. In nine previous starts at Phoenix, Bayne has recorded one top-five and five top-10s, including a best finish of fourth in the March 2013 event at the one-mile oval.

The NNS will take the green flag at Phoenix International Raceway on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN and MRN.
