TEAM CHEVY DRIVER POST PRACTICE NOTES AND QUOTES
NOVEMBER 15, 2014
KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 4 BUDWEISER CHEVROLET SS
DO YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE BALANCE OF THE CAR AFTER THE TWO PRACTICE SESSIONS TODAY?
“Yeah, we struggled getting the balance right. And I don’t think we’ve really hit it exactly where we need it to be yet. So, we’ll go back through the stuff that everybody did on our cars and definitely try to improve for tomorrow.”
HOW WAS THE CAR ON THE LONGER RUNS?
“We never got the balance right to run it really far enough into the run, to run 20 or 25 laps.”
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO YOU DO THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT TO PREPARE FOR TOMORROW?
“Eat!”
RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 CATERPILLAR CHEVROLET SS
HOW WAS PRACTICE?
“It could have gone better, but we got a lot of good information. Still just working on the balance of the race car a little bit and making it so it’s fast. It seems like I can put it anywhere, just got to get a little bit more speed out of the car doing that.”
HOW DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU MATCH UP WITH THE OTHER THREE?
“Oh, I don’t know.”
DO YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THEM AT ALL?
“We pay attention a little bit. Those guys are a little bit quicker on the quick lap. We had some signs of being quicker on a longer run, but I don’t know. We are not done working on it. We have one more night to think about it and go over our notes.”
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE WHAT YOU NEED TO COME FROM THAT 21ST STARTING POSITION TO MAKE YOUR WAY TO THE FRONT?
“Well we have a lot of data points. We have some practice, we got some tire wears, we have a lot of information we need to go over and just analyze it. That is one of our strengths this year and we will try to make the best of it tonight.”
WHERE IS YOUR CONFIDENCE LEVEL RIGHT NOW?
“Oh confidence isn’t an issue. We are having fun. Our starting spot is not where we want to be, but our finishing spot hopefully is a lot better.”
HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SPEND TONIGHT?
“I have a little cookout at the bus, hang out with the kids and some friends and some family.”
LOW PRESSURE NIGHT THEN?
“I don’t ever have a high pressure night. Just try to keep and even keel I guess.”
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PRACTICE SESSION:
“The No. 33 blew up and I don’t know if they just didn’t get a piece of whatever he blew up, but we caught something on the splitter and it came underneath the car and took out one of the fans which made a pretty good racket. That is why I slowed down and came in. I didn’t know what it was. If it were the race I would have kept going, but it never popped the tire or anything, it just made a racket. I could hear something metal bouncing off of the frame rails and the bars and the chassis so I knew that we hit something or something happened. Brought it in and the guys assessed it and figured out what it was.”
OVERALL WHAT HAS THIS WEEKEND BEEN LIKE THIS EXPERIENCE BEING PART OF THIS FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP FOUR?
“It’s pretty cool no doubt to get the notoriety for your sponsors like Caterpillar and Quicken Loans and Chevrolet and everybody else, it’s cool, but it’s not over yet.”
YOUR TEAM CHANGED THE SPLITTER AND RECONNECTED THE BEAD BLOWER FAN CORRECT?
“Yeah we hooked a new fan back up because it knocked it out and then changed the splitter because it scored it up pretty bad.”
