RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY PREVIEW

Race:  Federated Auto Parts 400
Date/Time: Saturday, September 12th / 7:30 PM ET
TV/Radio: NBCSN / MRN / SIRIUSXM

TEAM QUOTES:

Good track for the team: “Richmond International Raceway  (RIR) has always been a good racetrack for us,” said Allmendinger, who has three top-10 finishes at RIR. “I think we qualified fourth there in the spring. We had a decent run and it seems like I’ve always had good runs at Richmond.”

Chasing a win: “Richmond is a place where we can sneak up and try to grab one,” Allmendinger said.

Ups and downs: “Ultimately, we’ve had a tough year, but we’ve pulled together and are trying to do our best to get better,” Allmendinger said. “We’ve had ups and downs and some have been self-induced and some have been out of our control.”

Still a chance: “It’s one of those things where no matter what happens at Richmond, whether we win our not, we’re still going to look at those last 10 races the same way and that’s just trying to get better,” Allmendinger said. “I’m going to look at Richmond like yeah, we are going to try to win to get into The Chase if we have the opportunity. If not, we are going to try to go win some of those last 10 races. “

Turn luck around: “It seems like this year more than any other year I feel like, when we’ve been having a good run, something happens and it takes those points away,” Allmendinger said. “We’ve had at least five or six races where something bad has happened. We have also had some races where we just missed it. We need to hit on something this weekend and have some really good luck.”

Complementing one another: “Besides the road courses, Richmond was one of our best qualifying attempts this year,” Burns said. “We are bringing the same car back, which is 505. Richmond is a place where JTG Daugherty Racing has been good at in the past and it’s a place the driver enjoys as well. So, we complement each other.”

Swinging for the fence: “There are teams trying to make The Chase and will need to be conservative and race their race,” Burns said. “We are all out trying to win. We can take chances and bigger risks to try to get that last chance at a win before the cutoff. We are not really feeling the pressure like people that are on the bubble now. It’s easier for us to do something with pit strategy. We’re swinging for the fence. So, we don’t have to do anything conservative.”

Fine tune: “Richmond is one of the hardest tracks to tune for the race during practice,” Burns said. “Practice sessions seem to be tough because the track just changes so much. If you’ve had a good setup the previous race, you rely on that more so than what you are doing in practice. From practice to race conditions, it’s so different. You can go in and really have a good feeling in practice, but that’s not necessarily what you will want for the race. There are some teams that will just throw the race setup in from the last Richmond because you can easily get lost there.”
