How do you feel about your starting position for Sunday’s race?
“It’s not bad, it’s probably about what’s to be expected for me around this place. I feel better in race trim so that’s definitely a positive. We just got what we got today with qualifying trim. Not too bad, hopefully we can get down on the early start of the race and get to the bottom.”
What were you talking with Adam Stevens about while you were walking the race track earlier today?
“We were just talking about the different things of the race track, the transitions from asphalt to concrete and some other stuff that I keep complaining about and telling him that there’s some things that are happening there and just wanted to make sure that he knew exactly what I was talking about so he could make some good adjustments to the car to get over those things better.”

What happened on the first run that forced you to take a second round of laps?
“I just wasn’t fast enough the very first run so I put a run on the tires and got us a cycle behind everyone. It’s okay, we’re going to be just fine. I think in my history of qualifying here, this is still about 10 spots better than normal. We have a fast pit crew, the car is a lot better than it was in practice and I think for all these XFINITY guys, I think they’re all excited about the race. It’s one of our strong points at JGR and I’m going to have some fun on Sunday.”
How important is the pit crew to Sunday’s race with the difficulty of passing at Martinsville?
“I can tell you it’s a lot easier to pass people on pit road than it is to pass them on the race track. My guys are amazing. Darian (Grubb, crew chief) does such a good job with his calls and our pit stall selection. If I just keep my nose clean and race hard, I think we’ll be just fine.”

“Our car just wasn’t in the track and we were searching for grip. We weren’t that far off but it doesn’t take much to be off here at Martinsville. We’ll work on it tomorrow and get ready for Sunday’s race.”
