Roush Fenway Races Into 600 Weekend

After posting one of the strongest weekends in the organization’s history, Roush Fenway will look to continue to expand on the success that saw its teams win the Sprint Cup All-Star, Showdown and the Nationwide race at Iowa last weekend.

On a Roll

Roush Fenway has swept both the Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide races in each of the last two weekends of NASCAR action. Overall the team has won three times in the Cup Series and four times in the Nationwide Series this season, for a total of seven NASCAR wins in 2011.

Winning Roush Fenway Style

Over the past two weeks, Roush Fenway drivers Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, David Ragan and Ricky Stenhouse have all visited NASCAR victory lane. In addition, Greg Biffle won segment one and led a race-high 46 laps in last week’s Sprint All-Star Race.

Roush Fenway cars have made 81 starts in the famed Coca-Cola 600, having turned in 19 top-five and 29 top-10 finishes in NASCAR’s longest event. Roush Fenway Fords have posted an average finish of 16.6 in 23 Coke 600s at Charlotte and an average start of 21.9.

Four in a Row

Roush Fenway won a record four Coca-Cola 600’s in a row from 1999-2002. During that span Roush Fenway led 427 laps, including 201 of 400 laps in the 1999 event.

More Roush Fenway in the 600

RFR had its best overall outing in the Coca-Cola 600 in 2006, when its five entries averaged a 5.4 finish. Roush Fenway Fords finished third, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth, while leading 52 laps in the event. In 2002, Roush Fenway posted its only one-two finish in the event with Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth battling feverishly for the win and combining to lead 67 laps in the race (with Martin taking the win).

Roush Fenway first in the 600

Matt Kenseth won the first of his 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup races in the 2000 Coca-Cola 600, leading 32 laps in his first career 600.

Leading the Way in the 600

Roush Fenway has led a total of 903 laps in the Coca-Cola 600, having led in 18 of the 23 600-mile events. Roush Fenway has led at least one lap in 11 of the last 12 Coca-Cola 600 races.

Roush Fenway has won seven Cup races at Charlotte, while leading 2,000 laps and bringing home 38 top fives, 65 top 10s and two poles at the ‘Beast of the Southeast.’

In the Nationwide Series at Charlotte

In 84 starts, Roush Fenway Racing has won 10 times in the Nationwide Series at Charlotte, the second most at any track. Roush Fenway Nationwide Fords have accumulated 27 top-five and 42 top-10 finishes, while running to a company-best 12 poles at the 1.5-mile track. Mark Martin earned Roush Fenway’s first Nationwide win at Charlotte in the fall of ‘93. He then went on to win three straight, fall ‘95 and a sweep in ‘96, followed by wins in the spring of ‘98 and ‘99.

On the Pole

Roush Fenway swept all four poles in 2006 and 2007 between Kenseth, Biffle and Edwards. Roush Fenway’s 11 Nationwide poles break down as follows – Martin (fall ’94, spring ’97), Jeff Burton (fall ’01), Biffle (spring ’04, fall ’07), Kenseth (spring ’06, ’07), Carl Edwards (fall ’06), and Jamie McMurray (fall ’08).

Overall

Overall, Roush Fenway racing has posted 17 NASCAR wins at Charlotte, while earning 66 top-five finishes, 107 top-10 finishes, 13 poles and leading 4,339 laps.
